Best Bars and Restaurants in Nashville’s Wedgewood-Houston Neighborhood | Eater Nashville

"Tucked inside a former welding shop, Never Never is a cool, stripped-down spot for sipping cocktails and sharing uncomplicated food. Grab a seat at the bar or an outdoor picnic table to enjoy reasonably priced cocktails like the Cosmonaut, built with vodka, Aperol, passion fruit, and lemon, as well as beer, wine, chili, and nachos." - Kellie Walton

Two New Cocktail Bars are Shaking up the Wedgewood-Houston Neighborhood - Eater Nashville

"Never Never took over a former welding shop. Co-owner Bryan Kenney wants to keep the industrial feel, offering a list of spirits from which bartenders create custom cocktails. The food menu includes vegan and regular bang chili, bang candy co. chili nachos, pancakes, kolaches, and a meatloaf sandwich." - Delia Jo Ramsey

We always seem to end our night here when I'm visiting Nashville. It's just a nice place to catch up with friends. The staff is always so nice and welcoming! I normally have a drink but I do sober periods every once in awhile when I'm training. The bartender found out and made me a virgin Paloma. He definitely did not have to, but it was very kind of him! There are heaters if you want to be outside. It's what we prefer when we all gather. There are also food trucks occasionally parked out back.

Google
Cozy local bar. Nothing spectacular just good vibes, good drinks and good convos. Open patio out back. Not sure if there’s central air, the doors were open when I went and fans going. Cool spot.

If you’re like me and into to dive bars with a relaxed atmosphere then you’ll love this place like we did. It was the perfect bar for my wife and I to hang out and cap off the night after being out all day. I hate it with a passion, when people always review a place and call it a hidden a gem, however I have to admit this place is truly a hidden gem. The bar is just a 5 minute walk across the street and tracks (yes train tracks) from the Placemakr hotel there in SoBro. It is a bit sketchy looking from the outside but inside was relaxed and welcoming. Ethan our bartender was awesome and made an pretty good Old Fashion and my wife was a big fan of the Cosmonaut. I had fun watching the train go by the bar while the freight doors were wide open to view outside. I’d given the food only 3 stars because of lack of choices and presentation, however don’t let that stop you from ordering their nachos. Looks can be deceiving and the food tasted good.

Asked for id upon entry, sit anywhere! No one came to the table to get our drink order! After a few minutes my friend got up and went to the counter to ask, and only then were we told you have to come to the counter to place your order for drinks. It was an old garage turned into a bar, i think, which was cool but I hated the fact that people were inside smoking cigarettes! Cool place but because of that, I wouldn't return.

Google
Just opened last month and really looking to see how this place evolves. Bartenders freaking rocked. No drink menu, but have the ability to make most drinks you'd want. Staff is super knowledgeable. All cocktails are $12. They do have a small food menu that I'll have to try next time. Staff talked about a few interesting concepts and nights they had in mind. Like getting a DJ some nights for added vibes, etc. Industrial chic is what I'd call the layout. Came in on a Monday close to 6pm. We were the only couple in there, but around 10-15ppl showed up within the next 30 minutes. Everyone seemed really chill. May be one of my new favorite bars in Nashville.

Google
Atmosphere and service (and in that order) makes or breaks any establishment for me. However, product (which I separate from service) is also paramount. At introduction, Never Never made me well come and, thus, I was made merry. In glorious addition, my choice cocktail (this time) was most potably fulfilled...and, then, refilled.

Google
Didn’t open a tab. Had 2 separate card transactions. First transaction was $15- this is correct for the cocktail and tip. Second transaction was $50!!!!!! This is not correct, I got a well drink which is $8.70 after tax and tipped $2. Of course they’re impossible to get in touch with to resolve this. Double check your transactions.

Google
Fun date night spot! What I love most is that there are NO TELEVISIONS!!! This is so awesome because I think it is so distracting to have tv’s on all the time. I like to be disconnected from all that stuff and to have a nice bar with incredible nachos and amazing drinks in the city I love, with the woman I love… man you gotta try this place out. ❤️🙏🏻🤟🏻

Yelp
Good for what it is, which is a sweet little dive bar right on the railroad tracks. No frills, just plain bar with neighborhood feel and a Great taco truck in the back "outdoor" area. Nice first stop for a bar crawl in this area.
google avatar

Yelp
It's a very small bar, but the music was extremely loud on this day. It made it really hard to converse with others around you. Overall, this is a nice chill spot with two different areas for outdoor seating. Very limited menu, but I'm sure you can request your "go-to" drink and they'll be able to make it. If you're in the area definitely check it out.

Yelp
I used to love this place but I think it has gone downhill. The outdoor patio is so cute and I love the vibe of the place, but the service and food are terrible. I went during the day for a friend's bachelorette party (we are all locals, no one was acting drunk or crazy, we were just dressed in sparkles). There were about 10 other people in the place, but the server wouldn't even make eye contact with us. She was so engrossed in conversation with the other guests at the bar, we ended up waiting 10+ minutes to order a drink (this is pretty common here). We also got the nachos, which was a mistake. I think they'd been sitting in the back since the day before they were so soggy. Wish we had gone to Bastion instead.

Yelp
Love this bar, but was so disappointed with the service today. My wife and I stood there for 20 minutes before we had to ask for a drink while the bartender was just standing there. Seemed like a race issue. Two African-American women who came in after us had the same experience. I would expect more from Nashville.

Rhonda W.

Yelp
Funky bar with a great vibe. The drinks and tacos from the resident taco truck were great!

Yelp
I am a big fan of the WeHo area for a night out in Nash. And this is a great speakeasy/cocktail bar in the city. Of course, like most bars in the city, parking is tough. There's a small lot that fills up fast, and street parking that always seems full. The parking is worth it. The areas in this neighborhood are just cool. Filled with cool spots, Never Never is definitely one of them. They offer craft cocktails, and their patio is just the vibey spot to sit and drink at. It's casual but upscale. Hard to explain, you just have to check it out yourself!

Yelp
Visited Apr 15, 2023. Awesome place! I recently came to this establishment for a food pop-up. They are located on a corner slot right off the intersection. It's placed on a one way street so you'll have to park before reaching the destination. If I'm not mistaken, there are 3 parallel parking spots available in front, a near by parking lot for a fee, & street parking down the block. Please be advised, read the signs and double check how to pay- I saw a meter maid give someone a parking violation just outside the building. First impression, looking at it from 4th Ave S, you either love it or think it's sketchy. The exterior appearance from Houston St, you're faced with stairs leading up to a patio deck that includes exterior seating with string lights above and the entrance at the center-right. You walk in here and to your right is a hall for the restrooms (it's dark, not so obvious, this is good because it doesn't take away from the bar's ambiance). Then the bar is kinda to the left with seating around the bar top, more enclosed outdoor seating straight ahead and tucked in behind the right wall is a kitchen. Aside from the bar top there are some tables and booth. Personally, I love everything about this place! It's all I imagine a bar to be like. Honestly would not be surprised to hear if this place made an appearance in a tv series. It's a total vibe of classy, southern, eclectic, rough, & a tad spooky because of the shelf pieces. There's just a lot of trending styles going but it works! I am glad I came during the day for it made me admire how beautiful and thoughtful things were, where I would have missed at night. The indoor space is small enough for me to call it cozy if it was filled and big enough for me not to feel cluster phobic. The customer service was also great. Very polite and visually saw a personal effort to welcome everyone walking in. Last note, I appreciated their clean bathrooms and fun wall paper. One was for women and the other was for both genders.

Yelp
The food and drinks are great, nice modern bar with a dive feel, staff is cool as hell.

Yelp
Super cool, but laid back spot to grab a few drinks. We stopped in on a Sunday midday before seeing a soccer game and there was a great crowd. Plenty of seating inside and outside, and standing room. We chose beers, but there was a mimosa special and plenty of bloody Mary's in sight.
google avatar

Yelp
This cocktail bar is right up my alley, laid back, great music, and that perfect mix of a dirty/cozy aesthetic. This was the first stop on a cocktail crawl that my wife and I decided to do for our date night. I'm a huge fan of "nice" dive bars and Never Never fits that mold perfectly. There is both indoor and an outdoor seating patio and a small food menu with chili and chili nachos, vegan or meat, and on random Sundays there are brunch pop-ups. We went with cocktails during our trip here and I ordered the Georgia James. This cocktail is made with gin, watermelon, lime, Tabasco, and simple syrup. What a funky combo, but it worked! I especially loved the Tabasco punch at the end of each sip. My wife ordered the Cosmonaut and loved it, but it was not my fave. I'm not a huge fan of Prosecco. Besides craft cocktails, Never Never also has a deep menu of local beers, wine, and boozy seltzers. Once the weather warms up, and it stays warm, I definitely wanna make a repeat visit here and enjoy that patio and a nice cold beer. Parking is very tough here so I would recommend taking an Uber or Lyft. I mean, you'll be drinking anyway so it's the responsible thing to do! Houston Street has about five or six cocktail bars literally right next-door to each other and Never Never is a great place to start!

Yelp
R and I walked to Never Never from our hotel just on the other side of the train tracks. The website said that there is live entertainment every night, but, unfortunately, that was not true on the night we were there, and no one had updated the website. While we were there, there were only 7 customers, not counting us, in the bar. The bartender welcomed us when we walked up to the bar. He told us the list of beers that they have and we ordered a couple of Blue Moons, drinking them at the bar, talking and listening to the music playing through the speakers. The bartender was attentive the entire time we were there, seeing if we needed another beer periodically. The inside of Never Never doesn't have many seats. There are more tables and chairs on the two decks that I saw outside, one in the front of the entrance, and the other one out the back of the bar. It was too cold to be outside that night, so I didn't even go outside in the back to look. After finishing off our beers, we left. I noticed that there was a (mostly) fenced free parking lot for Never Never's customers. Nice laid back bar.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
Cool open area, open to the outdoors kind of, right next to the train tracks. Loud when the train comes through and blasts its horn.
google avatar

Marco G.

Yelp
Front door guy was very nice but everything after that was disappointing. Tried waiting but was never acknowledged by the bartender, ended up leave after 15 minuets. Bastion, Jackalope The Ranch, Flamingo or Earnest Bar are a few minuets walking distance if you get the same experiences.
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
I always enjoy coming here. Super cool vibe and nice friendly staff. I'd like to see them update the drink menu, maybe more cocktails?
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
Normally, I absolutely love this place. I had a beer and was told they were switching bartenders and I needed to close out. I asked if I could could keep my tab open and apparently this was the wrong thing to ask. The incoming bartender was so rude. He would not speak to us at all.

Zach H.

Yelp
We've been here several times and normally it is an awesome hidden gem in Nashville; however we sat at the outdoor side of the bar for 10 minutes without anyone waiting on us. we stopped in Sunday and couldn't get service. All the workers seemed too consumed socializing with friends. We asked the bar back about service and she simply said she wasn't a bartender. After waiting for 5 more minutes, we left. It was certainly not because they were too packed. They had a moderate crowd but it was just simply bad service from a place that is normally great. Hopefully not a sign of things to come...
google avatar

Shelly R.

Yelp
This was a cool spot to check out for cocktails with an industrial vibe. They have a big outdoor area. I ordered the Prosecco punch and my husband got the Jonesy. Both were good! Would return here.
google avatar

Eliza D.

Yelp
Ya know, it's a bar. You get a different a crowd each time you go, which makes for an interesting experience.
google avatar

Geoff L.

Yelp
Lovely spot - made me want to quit trying so hard. Like I'd already made it. The alcohol helped.
google avatar

Allie B.

Yelp
I almost don't wanna review this bar... I don't want everyone to know about it! It looks very unassuming from the outside, but Never Never is my favorite local bar in Wedgewood Houston. It is trendy on the inside with a cute outdoor patio that's perfect for a sunny spring day! And the drinks are perfect
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Cute local elevated divey bar, if that makes sense. They make good cocktails! And the atmosphere is chill and enjoyable. The bartender was really nice, and there is a small food menu, mostly chili. The Prosecco punch was refreshing and the Georgia James is definitely a bit spicy. But both are taasty

M L.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Basically a cool dive bar. Food is very limited. Good prices. Really like this place!
google avatar

Maggi V.

Yelp
One of my favorite places after a long workday! They conveniently open at 4pm which is an hour earlier than the rest of the strip. My go to drink is La Bandida but the Cosmonaut is pretty rad. Street parking is best option for this spot, it's a short walk among a few other bars in the area so there are plenty of people around.

Caitlan D.

Yelp
First time experience here, but the music was way too loud, we moved tables three times trying to find an area where we could hear ourselves speak. The patio space was nice (front and back) but with them allowing cigarette smoke it just smells bad. They do allow dogs (yay) but I felt bad that the dogs were stuck in a smoking area. It'd be cool if they had outside fans or something to help push the smoke out. Snack menu - two items, lame.

Amanda S.

Yelp
If i could give zero stars I would. We were racially profiled here. The bartender reported to other bartenders that we attempted to walk out on our bill (we were paying cash and stepped to the side while he got our bill, never attempted to exit the building). Then we were ignored. When trying to order another drink the one bartender reported that we attempted to walk out on our bill. We are a black couple. The only ones in the establishment. I am a physician. I can afford the drinks. #IGNORANCE THRIVES. I'll be back so you can serve me with respect for your own practice on how to be an acceptable human being. Shame on you.

Yelp
Loved the ambience here! Such a vibe, tucked away, laid back and great for a pit stop at golden hour! Suck me sideways!
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
A new bar made to look like an old dive bar. Very busy, crowded on both weekend nights (we walked in and out after seeing the crowd on Friday, but somehow ended up having drinks here Saturday night). A little dirty, not very much seating, okay service. Pretty typical dive bar offerings. Hipsters will love it. Old grumpy ladies like me will wish there was more seating and friendlier service and fewer people between you and the bar/bartender/your next drink! Okay if it's your sort of thing, but definitely not a place I'll be running back to.
google avatar

Lisa E.

Yelp
If you like ambiance, this is your place. Not to mention the bar staff are very welcoming. Cheap drinks and just a lot of fun.
google avatar

Caroline K.

Yelp
What a cool place! You want a local spot? You got it here. Super casual, feels off the grid, and in a cool part of town. I waited in line at Flamingo down the road for an hour (the bouncers were letting all their friends in ahead of us in line) and after being so frustrated by it we left and started walking and discovered Never Never!! I'll be back, not a ton of sitting area, not a ton of fuss, it's the perfect low key spot for a brew with the buddies.
google avatar

Ellyn H.

Yelp
This is the kind of place I need in my life always. Chill vibe, awesome and friendly bartender (thanks Charles!), great beer and nice drink selection. We asked for a local place off the beaten path and this was an awesome recommendation.

Kelly M.

Yelp
BEST PLACE EVER NICEST STAFF EVER Best cocktails, the bartenders can make absolutely anything you wish!
google avatar

Alyssa R.

Yelp
Great staff, tasty rum punch, and vegan chili nachos that turn heads. Very glad to see nvr nvr join the neighborhood! There are two options for patio seating as well.
google avatar

Sylvia S.

Yelp
Love the vibe! Nice selection of beers and cocktails. Definitely step into restroom to look at awesome wallpaper We were visiting from Chicago and it felt like a place we would frequent back home. Would definitely go back when in town.
google avatar

Madison H.

Yelp
Super cute intimate vibe. It gets a bit crowded on the weekends, but the drinks are delish!

R G.

Yelp
The best whiskey sour in Nashville. Awesome! Bartender was perfect! Great service better atmosphere, if your in Nashville get to Never Never!

Yelp
4.5 As Nashville grows and some of the new spots are either chains, imports or not that authentic to what the city is/was, every now and again, something pops up to make you take notice. Never Never is such a place. From the vibe to the location to the offerings, the bar fits well into what Nashville is and where it's going. For such a new business, it already seems to have a good lock on its POV. Located on the (literal) other side of the train tracks, I can't remember what Never Never was before it was a bar. I mean, I'm sure it was ab auto shop of some sort but I can't recall noticing it as I pulled up to Houston Station and/or any one of the many businesses that populate this stretch of Wedgewood-Houston. With only a 'bar' sign to let you know where you're going, you walk up the steps to find a patio with picnic tables and fencing. Nice but the vibe really kicks in once you walk inside. You immediately see a large bar with all number of bottles of booze. This is your starting point for your libation journey. Belly up to the bar or sit at a 2/4 top each adorned with a library-esque desk light. I liked the touch. This isn't a waiter bar so if you want a drink, make your way to the bar and have a spirit in mind. The bartenders will do the rest. While I was there, Christopher (? I think. His mastery at drinks has made my memory a big foggy) took good care to show off what he and the bar could do; name a spirit, get a drink. From a tequila sangria (on special for $9) to a rum-rye dry cocktail to a watermelon gin marvel to a herbal bourbon sipper, I was well-taken care of and (largely) impressed with what was going on. During the many hours I was there (I was not pounding these drinks), I sat inside under a fan, outside in the back patio (complete with metal furniture) and watched the bar transform from a sparsely-populated day drinking spot to a comfortably-packed scene. Another yelper described the vibe as 'casual but cool' and I think that's entirely accurate. Any type of person can/should feel comfortable here but I didn't get the impression that the bar was so self-aware as to be painful. You know what I mean. You've been to a place like that. I'm sure - in no time - this place will be a$$ to elbows and, maybe, some of the happy charm will have worn off. For now, though, I appreciate the bar it is and the vibe it's putting down. Nashville's been waiting for a place like this. It's not an import. It's not a chain. It's all Nashville. I like.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm constantly on the lookout for my next regular bar since my favorite place closed. It has to be someplace geared more towards the locals and not be located downtown. I looked through several reviews of Never Never on this site and decided that it was worth a shot. I've been twice now, both on Saturdays. Drinks were great both times. FYI - There really isn't a drink menu right now. Just tell the bartender what you normally drink or what you're in the mood for and they'll get you straightened out. There are a few food items but it's not a full bar menu type of place. My first time was great. I'm a solo drinker most of the time and Charles and Jacob took really good care of me. Everyone around me was open and friendly. I even had a temporary drink named after me that several people at the bar ordered and enjoyed by the way. From the way that Charles described this place to me is that they want this place to be a bar for the Nashvillians and I appreciate that. Set very close to the train-tracks where you can occasionally watch them glide by through this large open window situation, if that's your schtick. Second time was not so great. Again, it was a Saturday and I again, went along. The crew was different and not as welcoming. They did their job. Nice, cordial, took my order but a bit of the flair of the previous visit was not present. The crowd was different as well and not as friendly and it felt a bit clique-ish this go around. For now, I'm giving it 3 stars. I'm going to visit during the week to see how it really feels as an after-work drinking hole. Wish me luck.

Yelp
My friend owns a hair salon in the building across from Never Never, and we decided to go one night when my boyfriend was in town. We went with a group of 8, and I have been back again with a girl friend. Never Never, has a casual but cool vibe, and I like the open layout in warm weather. It's right next to 4th Avenue and a train track, but hey a few drinks in, and you won't care about the train when it passes by. There are 2 patio options, one on the front deck, and one out back with twinkle lighting and picnic tables. They have a variety of food offerings, and not only are they unique to your typical bar food, but also priced reasonably. The wasabi nuts are fantastic, and we were given a sample of the jerky to try, which was also delicious. I would like to try the vegan chili next time I go. Charles is one of the main bartenders here, and is an absolute sweetheart and fun to chat with... he also makes a mean drink. I love this new spot, and can't wait til the next time I go back!
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
I'm so glad we decided to stop by NVR NVR. We were pleasantly surprised by the low key atmosphere and friendly bartenders. We even received a warm welcome from both of the owners. The outside seating was exactly what we were looking for and we were excited when it looked even better than the pictures on Instagram. I look forward to my next trip to NVR NVR and hoping we can run into the bar owners again too.

Yelp
The Drinks: The bartenders are slinging TASTY cocktails. I had a martini that was just dirty enough. My drinking companion had a margaritas that was mezcal forward but without flaw. The Culture: Siiiigh... There's only a few spots that I feel need cultural critique. Nvr Nvr is one of them. Single person bathrooms that are disproportionately gendered in 2019? Why? A boys playground to attract drunken women? Some form of white feminism? God knows. Also the humor in a classic hip hop playist in such a predominantly white space is lovely. I question if there's a pretentious air of "this is the GOOD hip-hop" *cringe* Overall: I'll give NVR NVR another shot in the future. Maybe I just came on an odd night, but some of the obvious choices were a bit off-putting.
google avatar

Dani W.

Yelp
The best bar ever in every single way. No TVs, interesting patrons, friendly and honest service. Fair pricing. Awesome decor. Great bartenders who know how to make drinks. Charles, Erica abs Ezra are the best bartenders. Personable, great mixologists and good looking. Cuban food on Thursday nights is amazing and brunch on Sunday is a can't miss. Love this bar.
google avatar

Joanna C.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Never Never when I was showing an out-of-town friend around the Houston Station area. The decor and vibe are great and since we went on a Sunday night it was very relaxed and not too busy. I hope they'll offer more and more interesting cocktails to compete more directly with Bastion and Flamingo Lounge, but even as it is today, Never Never is a great place to chill.
google avatar

Shae F.

Yelp
Omg I love this place and I love Charles. This place is simple, lovely. I love the shareable Chili nachos. I had the Prosecco Punch and Charles knowledge on mixing spirits. Please come and enjoy. For a MATURE lovely lively crowd.
google avatar

Benjamin H.

Yelp
Great cocktails and service that pair perfectly with a Soy Cubano brunch every time!

Angelia S.

Yelp
This place is really convenient to where we were staying and the drinks are good. I will say, it could be so much cooler of a vibe if the ugly graffiti in areas could be painted over by a local artist, and the outside seating were more comfy. It looks a bit sketchy on the outside, so I'm glad we came in. It's pretty small but a good place to grab an adult beverage. The music is all over the place, but not a deal breaker if you're just looking to chill and have a drink or two.

Nick F.

Yelp
The place was packed on a Friday night and they only had 2 bartenders. One was dishonest and charged me $45 for $36 worth of drinks. I tipped him $5 before I got back to my table and noticed what he'd done. Won't be recommending this place.
google avatar

Westwood T.

Yelp
The pop up Soy Cubano was serving up incredible cuban sandwiches and picadillo bowls. We all ordered Georgia James drinks - fantastic with a heat kick on the end from the tabasco. Beautiful sunset and great music on the patio. Why 3 stars you ask? The blonde bartender was incredibly out of line. Not sure if he was having a bad night but save the attitude bubba.
google avatar

Allie B.

Yelp
The name couldn't be more ironic as I will NEVER NEVER be coming back here. I'm a Nashville local who frequents the WeHo area. Hearing about this new bar I got so excited, as I'm always wanting new areas to thrive & to support local dives. The vibe is casual, string-lighty, indoor/outdoor, spacious & eclectic. I can imagine when they get some standing heaters in the winter that this will quickly become a popular hang. That is, if they get their sh*t together. The atmosphere quickly diminished when the bar tender (Charles) took our order. Or lack there of. He was SO arrogant & RUDE for no apparent reason. When he was responded so abruptly to my friend who asked about flavored spirits ("This is a BAR, we don't have any." ?????) I thought maybe I misread him. But when I asked if they had a drink menu & he responded with the same hostility (what did I dooooo?!?) & angrily threw one my direction I knew he was just being plain mean. All of this to say, there are 100s of bars in Nashville: This place will not survive unless an attitude adjustment is made.

Yelp
I was finally able to get over to experience this new cocktail bar. What a great vibe! Loved the intimacy of the bar area and the outdoor space is fantastic as well. (This actually my second trip here; came the first time with our puppy and hung out in the courtyard). The cocktails were absolute perfection. They also sell Original Coors in a can, which I love! The food was awesome: get the nachos. Lastly, the service and bar staff were so friendly and fast. Even when there were 3-people deep at the bar, I only waited about 5 minutes for my perfectly mixed tequila drink. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great drinks, and fantastic bar staff. Not pretentious, and not slouchy. The perfect bar for any occasion.
