Traditional American diner plates, pancakes, cookies, and fresh OJ

"This long-time diner is a Parkside staple meant for hungover Sunday mornings, weekday breakfasts, and everything in between. Just scrawl your name down on the whiteboard and wait for generously portioned hashes, breakfast burritos, and potatoes with crispy, golden brown skirts. Sit at the counter so you can watch all the action and orange juice-squeezing, or grab a table in the back for bigger groups." - Julia Chen

"Stanley Lui took over New Taraval from his parents and keeps the old-school charm on the menu next to the fat stacks of pancakes and blood sausage. He’s bringing the restaurant into the 21st century in other ways, though, like hosting new pop-up Kiri at the restaurant for dinner service. Still, it’s the diner ambiance and those classic booths that make hitting this Taraval Street restaurant a delight." - Paolo Bicchieri

"Tucked into the Outer Sunset, New Taraval Cafe feels like a rare, timeless diner — a piece of Americana nostalgia with Irish breakfast and omelets on a plastic-sheathed menu, while also belonging to San Francisco’s immigrant-owned, Asian-infused breakfast tradition. I watched Stanley Lui, who took over his parents’ cafe after studying chemistry at UC Davis and working behind the scenes, elevate the spot by baking inventive, nostalgic cookies on the side; his first white-whale was a soft-baked, not-too-sweet chocolate chip with lots of chocolate, and he’s since expanded into tiramisu, sesame, ginger turmeric, banana walnut, Grand Marnier caramel cookies and matcha brownies. Lui applies his chemistry background to balance acidity and leavening for the soft texture he prizes, spends years refining recipes, and rotates flavors at the restaurant almost every week. The regulars know him, he clearly loves his community, and his cookies — sold at the cafe while supplies last and available for pre-order on Instagram under the handle Cookie Man Stan — reflect that desire to bring people together; he also hopes one day to give the cookies their own permanent hub." - Paolo Bicchieri

"This Taraval Street diner lived up to its reputation for classic comfort: the loaded home-fried potatoes feature generous avocado chunks that don’t feel tacked on, the right drizzle of sour cream to balance sharp cheddar, and a pleasant combo of pico de gallo and mushrooms that play with chewy and bursty textures; with $3.50 bottomless diner coffee and maroon booths to linger in, it’s a perfect, affordable long meal to start the day." - Eater Staff
