News Cafe - Review - South Beach - Miami - The Infatuation

"Gianni Versace was a regular at News Cafe on Ocean Drive—a fun fact that this classic (under new ownership) is milking hard. The entrance has a memorial plaque that states this was the last place Gianni visited before he was murdered. If that feels like a tasteful gesture, it won’t once you see “Gianni burger” on the menu and a giant neon sign that reads, “Gianni was here.” We didn’t order the burger, but they do make a decent, albeit skimpy, fried chicken sandwich covered in sweet barbecue sauce. The cafe con leche french toast isn’t as great as it sounds. It’s just french toast sticks that taste more like churros sitting in a coffee-infused chocolate drizzle. Believe it or not, News Cafe is one of the best options on Ocean Drive, but you still shouldn’t go out of your way to come here. video credit: Julia Malavé photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Pause Unmute" - Mariana Trabanino

We went for breakfast around 8–9 AM and it was amazing! The place was super clean, the food was insanely good, I had the chicken and waffles, and my boyfriend got the yogurt bowl with fruit. We both loved it! They make vanilla iced lattes which was good, and the hot latte came out looking super cute.

🌟 5-Star Review 🌟 News Café in Miami is an absolute gem on Ocean Drive! The food, the atmosphere, the vibe — everything is top-notch. But what truly made our experience unforgettable was our incredible server, Roberto. His professionalism, warm energy, and attention to detail elevated our visit from great to exceptional. He made me feel welcome from the moment we sat down and ensured everything was perfect throughout. If you’re in Miami, ask for Roberto — you’ll be in the best hands. Can’t wait to come back!

World Famous. The steak and eggs were phenomenal along with what a great spot to watch the world go by on Ocean Drive. After a long walk in bonkers heat (see photo) that cold pint was delicious.

Google
One block from the beautiful south beach! Food was delicious and Elmer our server made everything so perfect for us! He’s bilingual so both my husband and I were happy and he also went far and beyond to get me a rubber band for my hair that I needed it! 100% recommend!

Google
We travel all around America and this spot for breakfast is EPIC! By far the best pancakes and best savory dish for breakfast we have add on any trip. Our server Hugo was amazing and treated us like celebrities and even switched out our silverware so we had different utensils for each plate we ate. Would recommend to anyone!

Google
Nuria was absolutely amazing on the service. She was so attentive and professional. It was some of the best service I ever had! The food was delicious and the scenery of people walking down Ocean Drive incredible!

Google
This is an iconic cafe in south beach Miami.. opened in 1988.. and frequented daily by Versace when he was living a couple blocks down the street. Lots of tourists.. serving traditional American breakfast and lunch Not cheap but also not bad for the quality either Large portions, really friendly staff.. perfect for people watching.. you’re literally right on Ocean Drive!

Google
My favorite place on the Ocean Drive strip. Petronio and Juan were the best at tending to us and I am not exaggerating. The Salmon and Avocado omelet was my order 3 of the 5 days I was there. The salmon Benedict was also amazing. It's pricey but quality. The bathrooms are great. It's in the middle of everything in the best way.

Yelp
We were there Sunday March 2nd. We were staying at The Tony behind it on Collins. So perfect location for our Winter Party. I had the Fish and Chips. WOW. Huge portion of fish. The width of the whole plate. Thick too! Especially the middle of the fish. It's one big piece. The batter was a thick beer batter. I don't know if it was grouper or snapper, or what. But it was delicious! Outstanding! On an entire bed of shoestring fries. Uh they have never been my favorite kind. But overly generous there too. $25 , but for S Beach I was not surprised. I was not ripped off by the presentation or the flavor. Served w a grilled lemon half. That grilled lemon makes a difference! Loved that. The lemon was soft and easier to squeeze and grilled gave a better flavor to the citrus. So good that when the beach circuit party ended we stopped again after to eat dinner. I was fully intending to get a flatbread and saw a grilled red snapper with asparagus etc. I was getting ready to order. But my friend said, "I'm getting what you had earlier." I thought, why order the expensive snapper that may be great, when you know that even the batter on today's fish tasted amazing if you got a bite that had fallen off? I would only compare and maybe be disappointed? So I ordered Fish and Chips again! Twice in one day. Got a grilled lime this time, delicious too! We both loved the F&C! I even had to finish the fish of my buddy. I was not leaving the juicy thick and satisfying fish behind. No one can eat all the fries too.

Yelp
Asking for a tip on TOP of the already included 20% gratuity? Not worth it for the price. Best part is the people watching, not the food!
google avatar

Yelp
We only had drinks here, but the folks working couldn't have been more welcoming or friendly. Neat bar inside, but it's a lively place to sit and watch the world go by - and a place of some historic note as well. If you're strolling down Ocean, hit News Cafe for a drink after you do the Front Porch at the Betsy. You'll probably like News Cafe better.
google avatar

Yelp
Skip this one. The bar service was poor. Wrong drinks, waited fur no reason, the calamari was terrible but the fish tacos were good.
google avatar

Patty S.

Yelp
We have been coming to News Cafe for over 35 years. Although it's changed hands. It has a lot of the same characteristic's. It's such a great place to enjoy a morning or afternoon of people watching. The Food never disappoints and the servers have always been great. We Love News Cafe!
google avatar

Purpose T.

Yelp
Although it is a cafe, the menu and ambiance reminds me of an old school type of diner. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. If seated outside, it's a great spot for people watching on the strip. We opted for breakfast food and it was mediocre. Not the worst we've had, but also nothing to get excited about. The service was scarce, but not horrible.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in south beach near muscle beach along the Art Deco hotels you'll fine News Cafe at 8th & Ocean Drive. We were looking for an outside cafe offering brunch all day. News Cafe was the perfect spot! We parked our rental bikes street side and relaxed to cool off and enjoy brunch. Salmon & Avocado Omelette and Burrata Caprese hit the spot. Service is excellent and relaxed. We had great service and suggestions offered by our sweet server Juan. The hostess was more than helpful on where to safely park our hotel bikes. I don't know why the yelp stars are so low. It looks like a lot of the bad reviews are older reviews or price point complaints. News Cafe is a 4-5 star spot! Every decent restaurant in South Beach is going to be expensive. The portions are large and filling - so for that - you do get what you pay for. Thank You!

Yelp
The buffalo wings were soooo good. The molten Molten Chicken Parmesan was even better. The service was really professional. If you are ever on ocean drive stop by to take in some great food and amazing views!
google avatar

Erika R.

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance was good. "Cafe Con Leche French Toast" were so good. For the French toast, 2 sausage links and a pineapple juice it was 38$
google avatar

Momoka T.

Yelp
4.2 / 5.0 Streets along Miami Beach News Cafe on Ocean Dr. The French toast is very thick and hearty! The dough is glutinous and The dough is doughy and goes well with maple syrup. Not too sweet, so I could eat it easily. Eggs Benedict was also delicious! The staff was friendly and very helpful! Great atmosphere and relaxing atmosphere! I recommend this cafe for morning or lunch! what I ordered was : ・Cafe Con Leche French toast ・Classic Eggs Benedict

Yelp
I can't believe the low rating of this restaurant!! Excellent service, beautiful outdoor section with choice of sun or shade, and amazing options on the menu. Generous portions and delicious food. Definitely would recommend and would go again!
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
This place has your typical American breakfast along with some Cuban dishes. The food tasted overall good, but good on the satisfactory side. It is a decently priced breakfast, most likely because it is next to the beach.
google avatar

Zach M.

Yelp
Great spot along the crowded strip in Miami Beach. Tucked under one of the old hotels is a traditional American breakfast place with a menu that covers the entire spectrum of breakfast foods and dishes. Slightly pricey for breakfast, but typical for Miami Beach prices. A lot of shade which is great to beat that beach heat and an ideal location to start exploring the strip or head on over to the beach.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Always a wonderful experience. I love eating breakfast here because there's no better feeling than dining al fresco and enjoying breakfast foods in the sun. The service is always excellent, and the ambiance makes it a truly relaxing experience. The food is delicious, no complaints.
google avatar

Cheyenne C.

Yelp
Nice location and a fun breakfast menu, as well as lots of cocktails. Service was fast and food flavorful. Nice breakfast facing the beach.
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
Nice little spot to stop for a quick breakfast! My husband had a cappuccino that came with a pretty design. He had a traditional breakfast of eggs, potatoes, bacon and Cuban bread. I had the mexi-Cali avocado toast which was a great combo of flavors. Service was ridiculously quick!
google avatar

Peter W.

Yelp
So greedy. They hope for the customer to pay the extra tip without noticing the 20% service charge which was already included without permission. It is a very bad practice...
google avatar

Sam G.

Yelp
Nice place for breakfast, lunch or dinner! I've been coming here for years. Good people watching! Nice intimate atmosphere inside!
google avatar

Sammy B.

Yelp
This place is amazing for breakfast on the beach! The service was outstanding!! And the laidback vibe ! O and make sure you sit outside the view was amazing! So check this place out my yelpers

Yelp
Spent roughly 36hrs in South Beach will waiting to set sail on a cruise. We stayed at The Tony Hotel and The News Cafe was affiliated. The concierge recommended the restaurant and said they offered a discount to hotel guest. We decided to grab breakfast there before heading to the port. The staff were very gracious and pushed a few tables together for our group to be able to sit outside. I ordered a 2 egg combo that came with 2 eggs any way you like them, breakfast meat of your choice, home fries and buttery Cuban bread. I also got an apple juice. Food was decent. No different than you'd find at any local breakfast spot. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about either. However, the price was insane. $20 for what I described. Totally overpriced. Breakfast for 5 (including 2 mimosas) was around $175 w/ the discount. It's vacation and we were pressed for time. We saw the menu upfront and knew the prices. Was it worth it, nope, but I guess we paid for convenience lol.
google avatar

Shanea C.

Yelp
The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the server was excellent. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the Miami heat and ambiance. My only note is this cafe is more on the expensive side. I don't know if I would pay $19 for a sandwich if I was back home (NYC).

Yelp
We are local and mostly avoid dining on Ocean drive but wanted to enjoy eating alongside the beach in a beautiful Sunday morning. There are plenty of places but we chose News Cafe because it used to be one of the most local friendly places in Ocean Drive. Not anymore. Expensive and very low quality drinks and food. The 8th and ocean chicken sandwich was decent, tomato soup (possible from a can ) for 16 dollars, and a Reuben sandwich mainly composed of sauerkraut. The kiwi lychee drink had no discernible kiwi, just drowned in lime. Total disappointment. What a difference 3 years and new owners make. R.I.P.

Yelp
It is worth mentioning that the food is incredible, an extraordinary breakfast. The service was super Augusto, he treated us wonderfully. The manager was also great at all times. Congratulations, guys.

Yelp
Miami Beach is in a world of its own! The art deco buildings, the strand on the beach, the colors that are so vibrant, the vibe given off here you could cut with a knife; I really like Miami Beach. The News Cafe is an institution on Ocean Drive. The brainchild of renowned restaurateur Mark Soyka, News Café debuted in 1988 as one of the only restaurants in Ocean Drive's Art Deco district. We sat outside with our dear friends who live here and got the "Low Down" on what has taken place here. But, that's a whole other story! We enjoyed our lunches of: My Gianni Burger (named after Gianni Versace) was delicious and it came with a very nice salad One Cobb Salad and One Asian Chopped salad for the girls An Egg, mushroom and Swiss cheese omelet for my friend Everything was very good including the service. But, the people watching was the best. Characters of all sorts along with tourists and locals, made this lunch extra special.

Yelp
Came here for a late night desert and coffee after a dinner on the main boardwalk. A classy place in the middle Of tourist area. We had their waffles and ice cream and a couple of teas. Served very nicely and seemed of high quality.

Cory C.

Yelp
We had the worst breakfast here. The ambience is dark and unpleasant. Our waiter was rude. We told him we had to eat quickly and he ignored us. When I ordered an omelette, I had to ask if it included bread. He didn't ask what I wanted, he was ready to just serve whatever he wanted. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and it was awful. A real disappointment.
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
Oscar our server was exceptional! He's very kind, attentive and accommodating. This is my first time at Miami Beach Oscar customer service skills are impeccable.

Yelp
My hubby and I both got the a breakfast burrito, but of coarse I took the cheese and crema off of mine. The food was incredibly bland, even his, which had the crema and cheese. The eggs were cooked well but I needed salt and hot sauce to have any sort of flavor. The plate also came with potatoes which were overcooked, so bigger pieces were dry and smaller pieces were too crispy. I had a bloody Mary that I was not a fan of. However, that is because of personal preference. I prefer mine spicy and brine-y and theirs was on the sweeter side. It basically tasted like tomato juice with a slight hint of alcohol. But again, I think Bloody Mary's are just different in this part of the country. I had two more at restaurants nearby from two separate locations (three restaurants total) and it was more or less the same. I don't fault them for that but I'm just being honest about my experience. The food came out hot and that's saying a lot considering the restaurant was busy and our group itself had 18 people. What I loved about this restaurant is that it is in a great location and has an amazing and vibrant outdoor seating area. It's fantastic for people watching and the bustling drag has a great energy.

Yelp
Very good morning breakfast. I really enjoyed the pub kinda atmosphere of the place. The ac was much needed after being in the hot Miami sun. The service was good & attentive. I will be returning when I come back to Miami :)

Yelp
Came for lunch on a Sunday. After walking past many other restaurants on Ocean Drive and perusing menus that seemed to all be very similar, we decided to have lunch here because this restaurant seemed just a tad bit more unique than all the others! Who doesn't love a nostalgic old-fashioned themed restaurant from the days of newspapers? We chose this place also because it was neither empty nor packed - we wanted quick service and good food, and this place delivered. Plus they have a small selection of MOCKTAILS! Yes! We enjoyed it. South Beach prices, of course. Also, note that majority of the bad reviews on Yelp are from the pre-pandemic era and the restaurant has shut down and re-opened since then.

Richa V.

Yelp
We ordered and coffee, extra hot but they gave it lukewarm. The service is slow. The place is inviting and cheerful. Overall, the place is nice, not great.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Great cafe right on the busiest stretch of Miami Beach. We were cheap dates, drinking water and some non-alcoholic minty fruity drink, and yet they didn't rush us for some ritzier clientele. Got to stay out of the sun and people-watch for over an hour which was enjoyable.
google avatar

Leslie M.

Yelp
We came here around lunch time. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered the chilaquiles, breakfast burrito, bagel and lox. They did not have salsa for the burrito, they offered ketchup as a substitute. The food wasn't really memorable. Would not return.
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
Had a late lunch here with my sister and niece during a short stay in Miami. The service was swift and professional. We were sat immediately (inside) and offered water and drinks from the bar. I had the Moscow mule and the lobster toast both very delicious and not too heavy. My sister had the fish tacos which she loved and an iced tea (unsweetened). My niece thoroughly enjoyed her Cuban which was a triple decker and her mojito. Ambience was casual and we really liked our table inside. We will return!

Rebecca P.

Yelp
My friends and I are locals and are at the beach for Basel. We were going to sit at the bar for a drink. One of us needed to use the restroom and the manager Robin rudely came and told the bartender that we weren't allowed to use the bathroom unless we bought drinks, why would we sit at the bar if we weren't going to be paying customers? Completely unacceptable behavior. We all work in the service industry and we kindly walked out after that, ridiculous. Will never come back.
google avatar

Ha T.

Yelp
Highly recommend their chicken lettuce wraps. They were so good, we had to order another one before heading back to the beach. Came to visit last year and now I'm back on the west coast and need to figure out how to make it at home.

Sherri M.

Yelp
The lattes are delicious- and pretty. Very cute cafe, service is top notch. My server was very attentive and shared info about the menu. I recommend even if just v for an espresso or latte. And if you just want coffee, come on in and up to the bar and they will make it To Go.
google avatar

Jasmine F.

Yelp
Very nice place , the staff is very nice and they have the best ice tea and salmon Bowl
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
I didn't expect this little café to be so charming. I was on my way to see a different place that fell far short of the photos that I had found online. I double back to find this café that was full of people. The cafés that are around this café are empty of patrons, but this one is full. My main rule, when traveling is to always go where the locals eat. It seemed that everybody knew a secret that I did not. So I came and I had breakfast on the corner seat of this beautiful restaurant outside and had wonderful people watching. The food and coffee was also delicious and well done.
google avatar

Danielle S.

Yelp
Excellent Service. Delicious Cocktails. Fresh foods on an incredible menu. We took our sweet time hanging out at News Cafe and the waiter was very patient with us lollygagging. We tried 4 different cocktails and each was better than the last. We tried their salmon and cucumber tartar. It was a delicate, yet perfect balance of flavors. And absolute joy. We will definitely return to News Cafe the next time we're in town to continue our way through their well curated menu.
google avatar

Nations T.

Yelp
After posting an honest review about their tip-shaming, they asked me for my contact info. Haven't heard anything since. They don't seem to be genuinely interested in customer experience.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
Love the new News Cafe. I was a fan of the old one prior to it closing down in the pandemic. I was not sure what the place would be like after it reopened under new management but I was as really impressed. Glad to have them back on Ocean Drive.

Randella M.

Yelp
Great food and service! We try to stop in here for a a meal at least once a month. They actually have real newspapers too! Thank you, Farina, Juan, Fidel and crew for always amazing service

Marsha N.

Yelp
Ordered miso salmon with GRAIN RICE...something new to try. The rice looked like and had the consistency of eating bird seed/food. Later, my son ordered chocolate tiramisu.... Server Patron bought out all ingredients with lady finger cookies and poured expresso coffee over the cookies. After, added the cheese and finished with coco shavings. It was WET and SOGGY! Not good at all! When I later googled tiramisu, it was supposed to be refrigerated for hours before being served!! The food was awful. I felt sick days after eating there. The thought of that food makes me sick to my stomach today. That was a month ago

Catherine G.

Yelp
Excellent food, location and service. Management very was attentive. had the Caprese Avocado Toast and it was delicious....very fresh.
google avatar

Craig S.

Yelp
Great drinks and food. Everything we had was delicious and Juan took great care of us. They didn't have the tomato juice and grilled cheese in the menu but our waiter took great care of us.

Mary P.

Yelp
Classic in Miami. Always make a stop at News Cafe when there. Service is excellent and food never disappoints.
google avatar

Doug M.

Yelp
It's Ocean Drive in Miami, what more does your soul need. The fact that they have some pretty darn good tasting food is just the gravy.
google avatar

Kenny M.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! The ambiance was great and lovely to be in as well. This place is a must try for anyone who's staying on South Beach!
