Where to Eat in Chicago

"Chef Grant Achatz is considered by many to be one of the best chefs in the world. Building off the success of Alinea, which won endless press and adoration for its progressive and creative approach to food, Achatz opened Next, a restaurant that changes its entire concept seasonally. At Next, you get a reservation through the purchase of a ticket that includes the cost of the entire meal, tip, and any wine pairings. The pricing is dynamic, so a Saturday night will cost more than a Tuesday. Tickets should be bought in advance, though they do release some day-of tickets on their Facebook page.Where: 953 W Fulton Market, Chicago, IL 60607" - MATADOR_NETWORK

A Critic Thinks Next’s Latest Menu Isn’t Transcendent - Eater Chicago

"Next’s “Silk & Spice” menu is a fine experience but lacks the “transcendent quality, which this kitchen so often delivers,” to rank among the restaurant’s best efforts. Phil Vettel gives three stars to the current iteration that’s inspired by the Silk Road. A tart composition of peasant vegetables, gilded nuts, and seeds is an “enjoyable soup, but concept outpace[s] execution.” A “so-crazy-it-works” parfait features roasted banana puree, mango puree, and caviar, topped with grated Buddha’s hand, while “delicious” pork belly in Oaxacan mole is finished with squares of watermelon radish and raw onion. The final savory course is “heavy on visuals” — a color woven basket is filled with cubes of A5 wagyu and “suspended over the raw spices on a plate of clear plexiglass.” For dessert, curry sorbet is made tableside and served with other sweets showcasing curry ingredients." - Jeffy Mai

A Critic Thinks Radio Anago’s Less is More Approach is ‘Worth the Plunge’ - Eater Chicago

"Next delivers another four-star performance with its Nouvelle menu according to Phil Vettel. The refined lineup of French dishes features luxuries such as a 'painstakingly precise' mille-feuille of spring vegetables and smoked butter; and a 'magazine-cover-worthy' piece of cooked salmon topped by sorrel puree and sorrel leaves. The 'most dramatic dish' is a twist on coddled eggs while meaty courses include a reimagined chicken pot pie. Capping things off is a strawberry pate a bombe, with chocolate ganache and Banyuls jam, that 'echoes the colors and sweeping curves of the [dining room’s] graffiti.'" - Jeffy Mai

Delicious food, great atmosphere and amazing, knowledgeable and friendly staff! Me and my husband decided to try our first ever tasting menu and they did not disappoint! Great serving size, and the server (maybe the owner) explained every dish and ingredient to us. He also confirmed nothing was overly spicy as I couldn't handle spice and was willing to change the later dishes to accommodate my palette. Will have to come back to try other dishes and pairings!

Our 1st time eating here, Service goes beyond for you!! The meal, salmon was delicious found the sauce a little salty for my personal taste but my taste buds for the app, main and dessert wanted more. Didn't get to see the washrooms, really liked how pride was evident every where.

The food here leans toward Asian fusion with a sweet and savory flavor profile. Overall, the taste was fairly average—nothing particularly memorable or outstanding. Service was also quite ordinary. They asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, and we mentioned a birthday, but even the dessert we ordered came without a candle or any acknowledgment, which felt like a missed opportunity. The ambiance was decent, not too crowded, which made for a relaxed dining experience. However, we did notice some visible bugs and ants in the corners, which was off-putting. Probably wouldn’t return.

We chose the blind menu for 2. Very cool experience but because we went on Easter Friday you could tell most of the food was reheated and fresh garnishes were added. I would definitely give this another try, just not on a holiday:)

Took my Mom for Mothers Day brunch. Slight hiccup in service in the beginning - understandable given how busy they were. Once they realized what happened they more than made up for it. Food was great, interesting flavor combos and good portions. Only item that we were not fans of was the pancakes - not bad just kind of boring. Drinks were also very good. Very attentive service with good explanations of what the flavors were. Will definitely be back.

We tried their take home 5 course Christmas dinner, everyone enjoyed it. It worked out really well and the food was excellent. The portions were good, everyone was stuffed by the time we were done. Everything came precooked, packaged neatly, and labeled. The Chef posts a video on YouTube so you can watch how to prepare and plate things. I quite enjoyed this. We might try this again in the future. I need to add a picture of the bread, no black bits ;)

Really fun date night experience. Went for brunch. A lot more food than you expect! We were bustin’ at the seams. Great service! One dish though was really not for us(Pad Ka Pro). Everything else was wonderful!

Came here to celebrate a special occassion and treated ourselves to the blind sharing menu. It was a fun experience and the portions were very filling. Most of the items we got were on their regular dinner menu, but there were a couple that were a nice surprise! They were also able to accommodate our dietary restrictions. We enjoyed the dishes, but there were a few that weren't our favourites (red curry rice noodles were overcooked, and cassoulette / blueberry sauce were salty for us). Our favourites were the baos (as turmeric lovers!), the prosciutto wrapped pork tenderloin (very tender!), and both desserts. Would recommend to others for a unique experience, that we're glad exists in Stittsville!
