So, I've been several times now, and most visits have been pretty good, most of them I've just sat at the bar. The space is really nice, great layout, with a mixture of booths against the outside windows, high tables of different sizes, and a long bar with a lot of bar stools. There is a side room that's not always open, but when it is, it's usually doing something special, but I think it might be used for overflow on busy nights. Couple video games in the corner, a really neat, restored, but pretty sure non working cigarette machine in another corner, with a lot of old decorative stuff here and there. It's a really good layout, and is one of the standouts of the whole place. It looks, like it's trying to be, a dark cool bar.
However, I'm MethusaOld, and this place is outta my age range. I'd say it's mostly late 20 to 30 somethings, but the good thing is it's laid back, super casual, and pretty calm. They run playlist music, and there's one, count em, one TV at the end of the bar which isn't always on. It's the only TV I've been able to spot. I guess there might be a couple of Waldo TV's somewhere, but I can't find em.
They do 4-5 non inspiring beer drafts, which I think is more keeping to the theme of the place than being short sighted. They run a Jim Beam high ball machine which will pour you one out, and Jim Beam is a highlight of the bar. I had one, it was okay, and made me appreciate soda more, but it wasn't my thing, seemed kinda weak. Pretty good menu with good food that comes from their food trailer out on the patio. Onion rings are a must, not fancy, just good.
They do make a pretty mean old fashioned, and they have a pretty good selection of house cocktails which can change with the seasons. Service is usually pretty good at the bar, but at the tables on a weeknight I found it can be a little sketchy, but it does seem to get better the longer you hang around.
Prices are pretty good, and it's the nicest place on near southside at the moment. Honestly, it's a cool place and if you're not old as hell like myself you'll love it. I'm sure I'll still drop in from time to time.
