Elegant and Minimalist Sushi spot in San Antonio. Right behind the restaurant there is a parking garage, very convenient when you are in downtown. This review is going to be bitter-sweet, because I got horrible service at the bar but excellent service at the restaurant. The bar tender that helped us was very anal about certain things, never smiled and did not know how to speak to customers. But at the restaurant, the girls were amazing, they really make this place better. They are a little strict about the happy hour menu and where you can be seated. So if you are ordering from the Happy Hour Menu you cannot sit at the restaurant, you must to sit at the bar or by the sushi chef. Little weird rule. The food is outstanding and the cocktail excellently crafted. Perfect for a date, business dinner or a girl night out.

This is a very cool restaurant. There is an upstairs that opens to the extremely high ceilings. The dining room downstairs is quite large with a variety of seating options (tables, booths). The bar on your right when you first enter is gorgeous and they make delicious cocktails. One star off for noise as the very high ceilings make for a loud atmosphere. The sushi, while delicious, is a little bit small portion wise for the price you are paying. Overall I would recommend this restaurant as a good sushi spot in town

Ken with Offline - Downtown residence for 15 years and in hospitality for over 30 years. The food was incredible and the service at a different level! Cin went to the website and saw a vegetarian option when we were driving to the restaurant. We put in our order with Kayla when we arrived (if I was not retired, I would have STOLEN HER AWAY FROM NINETEEN!) WOW. When Cin placed her order, we could tell something was wrong, but ROCK STAR Kayla said she never heard of that on the menu, but she would check with the chef. She came back to tell us that dish had been discontinued a while back, but she would talk with the GM and chef for a resolution. She came back with the GM to tell us they would honor Cins request, as they had everything to make the dish. The ship sails as the captain sails it. GM was great! We chatted for 5 minutes about downtown living. Common man, what!!!! Then to boot, the entire meal a 10. Just a tad noisy, but that's a building issue. Little hard to hear each other.

My husband and I celebrated my birthday here last night, wanted to try something new. It's quite an experience. Hunter took very good care of us, stellar service. The food was equally fantastic. Love the atmosphere as well. We had an assortment of items and drinks. The shishito peppers were excellent - best rendition of the appetizer I've had from any sushi restaurant. Hard to pick a favorite item, but none disappointed. I hope to come back and try other items. Thank you, Hunter, and Nineteen Hyaku 🙂

Wanted to love this. Birthday with four people. Two hours for drinks, two apps, and two rolls. Wanted to order more but was very slow, even with manager trying to speed things. Food and drinks were creative and good. Gave the manager a chance to explain... he answered concert that night, and we should have ordered all at once. Offered us a couple rolls for the next time we came in. Left me feeing that it was my fault for the slow service. So declined the offer. Up the service and you may have something Wish you the best.

Very upscale Sushi bar. Right off broadway and across from Sam’s Burger Joint. Beautiful bar and restaurant. Service was decent. There was way too many servers asking about drink orders and I feel there was miscommunication between waitress and her helper. We did show up during happy hour but the prices at the bar are cheaper than at the table. You only got happy hour pricing at the bar so that kinda sucked but oh well part of the business. We had a party of 9 and we received our food quickly not a long period of wait time. Especially since it is a fresh sushi bar. We did start off with spicy edamame (sorry no pic). Edamame was not spicy but had a good flavor. Then we ordered the pork bao buns. Really good flavor and really tender. We ate those up quick. Now the sushi rolls were fire! Literally lol we got the heater roll and it was spicy. But it was a good spice. Really good flavor but not overwhelming spicy. 2nd roll was the atun crunch roll. Really good flavor and paired well with the heater roll. For drinks I had the old fashioned. Whiskey was a bit sweet for my liking. But overall good cocktail. My wife had the dirty martini. She really enjoyed it.

My second time at Nineteen Hyaku, and I'm already looking forward to my third and forth. The atmosphere was on point, the food was tasty, and on time. The server was patient and courteous. She checked in on us very often. I definitely recommend dining here. The experience is top notch and unforgettable. A+

Our recent visit to Nineteen Hyaku at the Pearl for a birthday celebration was nothing short of extraordinary! The online reservation process was a breeze, and from the moment we walked in, servers Jac and Isaac made us feel completely welcomed, like long-lost friends reconnecting over incredible food. We kicked off with perfectly steamed edamame before diving into the Shumai Dumplings — tender pork-filled delights swimming in a sauce so rich and flavorful it could have been a dish on its own. The chicken and pork skewers followed, delivering a sophisticated blend of smoky, savory perfection that left us speechless. The fried rice? Simply out of this world! It’s now a must-have for my takeout dinner menu at home. The Lemon Kani Sushi? Imagine a lemon drop candy reimagined as sushi — a playful explosion of flavor that’s both unique and unforgettable. Our grand finale was the New Zealand lamb chops, a true culinary masterpiece, made even better by the expert recommendations from the knowledgeable staff. We capped off the evening with the Hyaku Espresso Martini and Lychee Martini for dessert, a deliciously creative conclusion to a phenomenal experience. Nineteen Haiku isn’t just a meal — it’s an adventure for the senses!

Yelp
Second time eating at this sushi restaurant and really enjoyed it! It was a Friday evening, around 7:30 PM so walked it and it was about a 20 minute wait for 3 people. Not too bad! Service is always great here. Hosts and servers are very welcoming and kind. Tried the lemon special roll, which was so so good and yummy! Pretty small restaurant space with a few tables outdoors, but it was way too hot to sit outside. The menu is pretty extensive, with so many different rolls to choose from. Edamame is excellent too. WOuld come back soon!!

Yelp
Lovely spot. The interior is open, yet sophisticated. Our server was spectacular: recommended dishes to myself and the rest of the group I was with (had the Lemon Kani which was to die for). On top of that, midway through our meal, we were offered a small but shareable rendition of negiyaki (Japanese scallion pancake), compliments of the chef (spoilers: was also fantastic). Overall, I found the drink menu to be a little lacking, but the food and hospitality more than made up for it. Would recommend 100 times over.

Yelp
I've been here twice and the food was good but just a little too boujie for my taste. Flavors were a bit too elevated and of course you are dropping a pretty penny. Service has been good but things tend to take a long time to come out, even when the place isn't crowded. Their house ranch was super unique and niche. Cool to try but I won't get it again. There was something we wanted to try that they were also out of.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing!! Visited for happy hour, and the food and deals were unbelievable. The service was also fantastic; the bartender answered many of our questions and recommended great options! The inside is very pretty, particularly the high ceilings! It is clean, simple, and elegant. I noticed there is an upstairs area too, perhaps for private parties or events. 100/10 recommend visiting for happy hour!

Yelp
Definitely a go to! Very delicious and very fresh! We've been to Japan and this is the closet you can get to Japanese sushi without going to Japan. 10/10 experience.

Yelp
Went here for a friend's birthday dinner & it was great! Atmosphere was lovely, very modern. They have a great bar with lots of seating. They also have seating along the Susie bar. The servers were pleasant & friendly. The drinks & food came out timely & everything was delicious. The shrimp were cooked perfectly & had great seasoning, a little spicy. The sushi was so fresh. Would recommend for a sushi spot!

Yelp
Went in and had the best sushi I think I've ever had in my life at Nineteen Hyaku last night. I could not get enough of how fresh and like butter the sashimi was! I love how on the chefs choice you can have it without the rice. My friend and I ended up ordering a few options to try, The espresso martini unfortunately was not the best but again the food was so good I didn't want to make a fuss about anything.

Yelp
Very cool space. Cavernous yet elegant. And a little noisy. Nice happy hour specials but most of the dishes were on the sour side of the spectrum. Not quite balanced. The Hyaku Heater was a nice roll but honestly not very spicy. Overall we enjoyed our meal. Cudos for having Asahi NA.

Yelp
I ate here with 2 girlfriends for the Culinaria menu. We were excited because we had heard really good things. I will say the food was good but our waitress did not know the menu and could not explain the menu. When asked her questions she would say descriptions of the color of the fish and we would then ask is that tuna? Almost felt like we were playing charades or being punked. I would expect more of a server at a restaurant of this caliber. The ambiance was nice. We did not feel rushed. I liked most everything we got. The stand outs for me were the tuna and the goyza with black garlic. The portions were small. I'm not a big eater but I didn't leave full. My husband would have needed more food.

Yelp
We came as guests to our friend's 40th birthday party and oh my goodness, what a fancy and great place to celebrate. There was a fairly large group of us so we were upstairs. So we could take in the ambiance. Our server took great care of us drinking our cocktails and multiple courses of food. Our drinks were tasty and refreshing. The food was flavorful and delicious. This is definitely a place that is great for a fancy night out on a date, with friends, or a solo escape.

Yelp
I was craving sushi. Stopped by this restaurant on a Saturday evening. I did make reservations and I am glad I did because it was pretty full. They have valet parking , but there's a parking garage behind the restaurant that you can park at as well. I started off with the lychee Mojito. I felt like it was too sweet for me. For Appetizers, we had shishito peppers and brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts were definitely the favorite. They had great flavor and the serving size was pretty big. For our main dishes, we shared the upscale roll, Lemon kani roll and the chef choice nigiri and a chutoro hand roll. By far, the upscale roll was our favorite. The flavors just exploded in your mouth. We had the fried banana cheesecake that came with ice cream and drizzle of strawberry. It was the perfect ending to a great meal. We were definitely happy when we left. Everyone we encounter was friendly. Our waiter was attentive

Yelp
Went on a Saturday for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by the impressive selection. The sushi was incredibly fresh, with unique flavor combinations that really stood out. The atmosphere is sleek and modern, not your typical San Antonio vibe. Service was excellent from start to finish. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
It's incredible, the food is delicious. The staff is attentive, the hosts are friendly.

Yelp
Meh... went here last year and loved it but the quality has gone DOWNHILL. Food isn't the same... potbelly is over cooked when it used to melt in your mouth, and they took mini corn out of the fried rice just to name a few. No wonder it was empty on a Friday night...

Yelp
Trendy, upscale sushi establishment adding to the revitalization of Broadway & Greyson. The restaurant is spacious, high ceilings and well lit. The bar is beautiful with elegant light fixtures. The menu consists of small plates, delicious and great for allowing tasting a wide variety of dishes. We ordered from almost every section! The wine list is descent and the cocktails surprisingly delicious and ingenious. Service was excellent. Speed of dinner about quick!! Dishes were flying out of the kitchen so ask your server to pace you or you'll be out in the blink of an eye. A welcome cuisine for San Antonio... hope it lasts, we'll be back!

Yelp
I came here for the first time to try the Culinaria restaurant week dinner menu with my friends. The course food was actually very good! The Truffle Miso Soup has great flavor. I enjoyed the difference of three Nigiri with different parts of tuna fish. Everyone's favorite was Otoro. The server told us all parts were from a same tuna fish from Nagasaki, Japan. The wagyu tsukune skewer was amazing! I wish I could eat more than one skewer though... the portion was too small. One thing we disappointed was the ice cream. It was supposed to be Chrysanthemum Honey Ice cream, but we tasted Matcha. It was still good, but just we wished... Obviously the course was very small and I was still hungry (the server also kindly warned us at the beginning). So I ordered three more white fish nigiri and Chutoro handroll. They were okay, not as good as the restaurant week course food. The each piece of fish meat could be thicker for the price. The fish flavor I remember from Japan is more flavorful than the ones they served. The interior is beautiful and nice as a modern upscale restaurant. Although I didn't like the restroom as the other people have reviewed lol The service was excellent. Just we felt that it was a little bit slow. But that's because the portion was very small like we could eat one dish in one bite lol Overall it is a nice restaurant, but in my opinion, the price and the potion are not matched well.

Yelp
Greatest bar (and bartender) in all sushi restaurants in San Antonio! Everything is so fresh! Can't say enough great things about this place. We will always be back!!

Yelp
What a great little date night spot. I stopped here with the wife on our last date and we were both impressed. It was quaint and dimly lit, but not too dim. Just right. The music was hip and the service was great. We shared a couple of rolls and had the chicken karaage (I think that's how you spell it). It was something new that I've never heard of and it was actually quite delicious paired with my sáke. We have this place on our list of date night spots now. Will be back.

Yelp
I'm going to call this San Antonio four. The best sushi that I've had in San Antonio, second to Shiro. But, it's San Antonio, so that's not difficult. The good: beautiful space, delicious flavors, super fresh fish, good rice. The akami tartare and citrus hiramasa were excellent. The best nigiri pieces we had were the Hyaku (a5 wagyu, Hokkaido uni, black garlic, hanaho) and the kuro mutsu. The not as good: The knife work. The fish was thick and firm. That's not *bad* necessarily, it just kept surprising me because it was very different. I could see that it was scored, just not as skillfully as I'm used to. We were there on a Wednesday, so maybe the executive chef wasn't there? The hand rolls: more like tacos - not actually rolled. And overstuffed. Pro: more bang for your buck. Con: very messy and difficult to eat. Also not prepped particularly skillfully - the akami was just big cubes. And the nori wasn't as crispy as I like in a hand roll, which means it wasn't brought out as fast as it could have been. They were pricey, too. I would skip the hand rolls next time and just stick to nigiri. The speed - we didn't get our first dish until we had been there for an hour. They were very slow, and it wasn't even busy Our server was very friendly and helpful, but did not know anything about sushi or sake. Is there no training process involved? At a restaurant this expensive with this small a menu - can you not have them try every dish? And there was no one more knowledge about the sake list that she could brought over, apparently. Lastly - the price. VERY expensive. More expensive than Shiro or Uchi, which are better. As expensive as the Michelin starred place we used to frequent in DC. That's insane for San Antonio. I want high end sushi to do well here. So my advice would be - train the chefs better in traditional sushi knife work, and train the servers better on the menu. *Edit* After revisiting Shiro, I had to bump this down anotuer star. It's just not the quality or skill level it needs to be at for the price.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is beautiful and was excited for the possibilities! At first the service was slow, but we didn't think much of it. We finally ordered after about 20 minutes. To set the scene, the restaurant was mostly empty. There were a few large groups but less than half of it was full. After 30 minutes one guy from our table received one dish. He ended up eating it so it didn't get cold even though it was awkward all of us watching him eat, but then the rest of us sat there for over an hour without any food and when we asked about it, they just said the "the dishes will come out as they're ready". An hour and a half after we got there all of us received the first of their food, except one person... we understand the delays happen, but the strange part was the restaurant never acknowledged how weird the delay was or tried to make up for it in anyway. And the most bizarre part of the whole thing was, they charged an automatic gratuity which at first we assumed was standard for a group of seven but then later we come to find out, they didn't charge automatic gratuity for another table that was the same size, which seems completely unethical, especially after everything that happened. Unfortunately will never return.

Yelp
New sushi spot with a little more elegance. With the high ceilings and the ambiance, this is a great spot for date night or small gatherings. They have a bar are and seating along a sushi counter, presumably first come first serve. The wait staff and bartenders were knowledgeable about the menu and drink selections. They have a variety of Sake choices including some on tap. Sushi choices marked with a Japanese symbol are unique as "not all sushi places serve them". Parking is available in a garage and paid to park.

Yelp
Beautiful interior and ambiance for date night. We had reservations for omakase on a Friday night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The omakase reservation has to be pre-paid and only options for a 19 course. We had a wait a little bit to get seated although the omakase area was pretty empty. The waitress took our drink orders immediately, but took forever to bring them! You can find an assortment of Japanese whiskeys and mainly sake. Going into the omakase, I do say every palate cleanser is counted a course. There were about 9 nigiri, 2 palate cleanser, 1 salad, 4 cooked course, and 2 dessert course. Not sure what the last one is, although I've gone through my pictures over and over.... Still coming with 18 courses unless the warm towel is included. Yes, I was still hungry afterwards, but because the omakase took about 2.5 hours I just wanted to go home. Food overall was okay with the nigiri being the highlights. Giving them 4 stars since everyone was welcoming and nice (but very slow). Also, this is the only omakase spot in town so I want to promote this more in San Antonio hoping other places will start opening up! Next time, I may come for just the nigiri and rolls!

Yelp
A cute Japanese restaurant within walking distance to The Pearl shopping and dining area. Nineteen Hyaku has a very minimalistic design with a great menu. In fact, the menu was so great that I could not decide what to order. It also looks like there is additional dining space upstairs or it could be a private event space (it would be very cool to have an event here). We got the Chutoro Handroll, Budo Hiramasa, Gyoza, Agave Akamai, one King Salmon nigiri, and the Lemon Kani roll. Everything we got was extremely fresh and was melt-in-your-mouth buttery soft. The handroll was more like a taco where the toppings were placed atop vs a cone shape that I was expecting. This made it a little difficult to eat without all the fish falling out. The gyoza had a little hint of squid ink in each bite without being too overpowering. Everything on the menu looked great - I am looking forward to coming back and trying the chirashi bowl and more rolls!

Yelp
We came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. It wasn't too busy, but it was the day before Veterans Day. I think Friday is the only day they are open for lunch and I think even that is new. We were fortunate to find street parking. There is a garage nearby, but not sure what it costs. It's not too far from the surface lots near The Pearl under 281. We were sat right away. The restaurant was bigger than I expected, but still pretty small. I think there were stairs near the front door, but not sure if that led to more seating. We started with miso soup, gyoza, and a couple of oysters. My wife got the snow crab temaki and I got the chef's choice premium nigiri which came with seven pieces, I think. The miso soup had more seaweed than I have ever had in a miso soup, but was good. The gyoza and oysters were amazing! The sushi was great. The nigiri was shrimp, a few different dishes, and avocado. Everything was presented beautifully and the oysters were so good, we ordered more.

Yelp
We felt like having Japanese for dinner tonight. Houston helped us with our reservations, and we were set. Valet parking is available, but we found street parking with no problem. Chelsea was our wonderful and knowledgeable server. Found out later that she's the first employee. Dad had a Lemonade, I had the Lychee Mojito, and hubby had tea. Dad and hubby each had the Miso Soup. We had the Shrimp Tempura, Chasu skewer, Tako/octopus skewer, Wagyu Hot Stone, Oysters, Budo Hiramasa, Uni, and Hiramasa (a type of yellowtail). Chasu and wagyu were melt in your mouth good! Oysters done well. We had a couple of treats like the Squash Tempura and Brussel Sprouts. Calamansi pie was the best sweet ending! Coming from the Philippines, calamansi is a lemon-lime fruit! Their pastry chef came from Signature! If you're looking for a fine dining experience, this is the place to check out!

Yelp
"I Trust You Chef" -- that's what the menu says next to the omakase option, a set of ten courses of sushi, plus a generous bowl of edamame and a dessert. This is a great way to surprise yourself and branch out. What you see in my photos is omakase for two people. The later courses, especially the pork belly and salmon, were quite filling. Our server mentioned that the omakase menu changes every few days. From our set of dishes, the tuna and the scallops were standouts, with melt-in-your-mouth seafood layered over tender rice and graced with soy, vinegar, ginger, green onion, etc. Entering Nineteen Hyaku is a heightened experience. It feels special to be there. Like the sister restaurants (Little Em, Upscale) there is careful attention to colors and finishes. The servers did a good job explaining the omakase dishes as they came our. It was a team approach to keeping things moving from the kitchen and making sure our needs were taken care of. It would be fun to come back and pick specific items from the menu. Downsides. The music felt bit too loud for easy conversation. Also, on our visit, the bathrooms were not as clean or fresh as they should have been. Parking: You can enter the garage at the Jefferson Bank building from N. Alamo street; it's a right turn if you're heading southbound; they validate inside the restaurant. At peak times there is a valet stand on E. Grayson, heading westbound, between N. Alamo and Broadway.

Yelp
Lychee Mojitos are my favorite mojitos in SA! That is a must try if you come here (You're welcome in advance). This place is really good, a little pricey but worth it. Sushi is fresh and staff is very good.

Yelp
Honestly, it's pretty mid. The quality of fish was acceptable but not what I would expect of a restaurant of this "range". The edamame was the best dish we were served.

Yelp
I went to the soft opening for friends, family and industry people so I did not pay for anything except the alcohol. So price and value are not reflected here. I would go again if a friend wanted to. The restaurant is super cute just like its sister restaurants. It feels very high end and the decor and scheme flows well. The service was also top notch. I saw a lot of my favorite staff from other restaurants there. They were attentive, helpful and we never had to wonder where our waitress was. She always checked in at appropriate times. The food was great. We tried a little bit from every section of the menu. I think they had some cool concepts and ideas such as the little em roll and tuna tempura roll. There was nothing I didn't like, but there was also nothing that stood out dramatically to me that would be different than other similar high end sushi restaurants.
google avatar

Yelp
Ambience is beautiful inside. Not the typical Japanese ambience, more westernized. Great ambient lighting to create the appropriate mood of the space. Food was okay...not a big fan of their sushi but the arrangement looked nice. The service was great and the servers looked overworked but did a great job with refills and attending our table.
google avatar

Benjamin N.

Yelp
Time hasn't improved this product. The kitchen is still wildly uneven. There's very little authentic Japanese food or technique being featured here. It's just flash for the sake of flash with no real understanding of the aesthetic or culture. Lots of empty tables the night I went back. I fear some of that has.to do with the recent harassment allegations made against the owner by current and former staff members. As I said when I first dined here,.it's a design forward eating space (for San Antonio, at least) and the rest of the experience just falls apart. Honestly, if they were smart, they would bring in a more capable kitchen team and copy the menu from.Nobu as best they could.

Yelp
The ambiance is great and the decor is beautiful. But that is where the positivity ends. The hostess was rude. When she seated us in the main dining area I mentioned that I made the reservation for the mezzanine and she states well we aren't using that tonight and walked away. The food was terrible! The mushroom skewer had NO flavor. The eggplant skewer had minimal flavor. The Brussels were way too big to eat, leaving the center soggy and only allowing us to eat the outer leaves. The oyster shooters were a great idea, however, it was the worst oyster I have ever tasted. At $54 for 2 shooters, that was a huge disappointment. The Salmon Nigiri was tough to chew. That was definitely a first for me. The two sushi rolls were ok, not great. They almost tasted the same and not much flavor at all. We ordered a variety as it was our first time there. And each dish left us more disappointed. They didn't acknowledge the birthday that was submitted on the reservation. But I didn't expect much on that since they didn't acknowledge the mezzanine reservation either! I guess I can see why there were so many empty tables. They need to just open a completely different restaurant in that beautiful space.

Yelp
Had dinner reservations on a Friday night and it took them 25 minutes for them to seat us. Cocktails came out super quick. The cut of the fish for their hamachi citrus cold appetizer was cut very irregular. Some pieces were super thick and some were not. I found the skewers cooked perfectly and the sauces and spices that accompanied them were great. I did have a problem with the time some of our dishes came out. We were done with our small plates and it took close to another thirty minutes for our fried rice to come out. The only great thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere and decor.

Yelp
Nineteen Hyaku was a lovely place to get dinner! The ambiance is nice and it's a great place for a date. The sushi rolls were really fresh and my cocktail was amazing! It had hibiscus and orange, it might be one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. The service was good as well. I think the appetizers were my favorite -- The tempura squash was soooo good, sliced super thin so it was really crispy and the pork belly on a stick melted in my mouth it was yummy. The sushi rolls that we got were slightly spicy and all the fish was fresh. For dessert we got a chocolate and berries cake and it was good if you like strong chocolate and berries ! overall , this is a great place to

Yelp
The staff knows so much about the menu. I tasted the flavors in every bite! Surprisingly, filling! Also, loved the cocktails. Every thing was great! Every- single- thing!

Yelp
If you like sushi, rice, and everything nice, nineteen Hyaku is for you. I love sushi, but I'm not a sushi snob or expert by any means. I enjoyed this restaurant because I had the opportunity to try authentic sushi that I have never been introduced to. I specifically chose the chef's choice nigiri so I could expand my palate and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing and the staff was lovely and generous. They even gave us a complimentary dish.

Yelp
This restaurant is soooo beautiful! Everything is so aesthetically pleasing. The service was also amazing, everyone was so welcome and friendly. The sushi was very high quality and delicious. I got a lychee mojito and it was so refreshing!

Yelp
Nineteen Hyaku is a beautiful upscale sushi restaurant located in the heart of Broadway/Pearl area just near downtown. There's a parking garage on the backside of the restaurant that helps if you can't find any street parking (typically it's awful in this area). You're welcomed by beautiful doors and a gorgeous dining/bar area and sweet hostesses! I want to be kind in my review but also real. I can be picky with sushi restaurants but I'm definitely very open minded ! I know this place is newer so stafff may be in training still, who knows.. I know they may need to get some kinks out. I love the ambience of nineteen. Others said it gives Nobu vibes and I definitely see that. Dress more classy rather than dressy casual to match the vibe if you're wanting that bit of advice ! Service- we had reservations for 5:45 and were a few mins late due to traffic. we called and they were very understanding and our table was held for us. The restaurant was very empty when we got there luckily so service should be swift! Our waitress was very kind and helpful in suggesting appetizers and drink choices. She offered mocktails and asked what flavors we like, then gave the bartender a "bartenders choice". Our drinks turned out terrific! My friends was a matcha based and mine I believe was yuzu (unsure). For appetizers we ordered edamame (served chilled, great seasoning on top and chilled was good but I do prefer warm); kobacha squash tempura (delicious fresh squash in a lightly fried lightly seasoned batter served with a slightly sweet vinegar dip); and Agave akami (fresh tuna, I thought it was just some type of sashimi but I didn't order it. Very good flavor!!). Here's where my disappointment sets in. I only know time stamps thanks to my phones pics. We sat down at 5:53 pm and didn't get served our sushi until 7:26. we were some of the first people there and ordered around 6:10/15. Eventually we got worried that all tables around us were receiving their sushi. Our waitress checked on us once to see if we needed anything else. Not sure why this didn't raise a red flag to me. Eventually I asked where our sushi was... and it turns out she never put the order in she offered to comp our dessert... we didn't want dessert. We sat there long enough. Didn't leave until after 8 and that was long enough. We asked if she could comp our lower priced apps and she did , but she definitely didn't look happy. Her attitude definitely changed a bit when she messed up. Human error , it happens to the best of us .. but we were still majorly disappointed. (My friend had been there several times and had delicious sushi and amazing service). The sushi I ordered was little em's kaki. It looked beautiful but tasted strange, kind of like it was charred on top? Not sure how to explain but I wasn't a fan. My friend liked her roll but didn't love it. I tried it, it was ok but I've had better (not sure what she got). Definitely better than mine. ( Hers had some sort of cheese in it so I'm assuming it's the yuki salmon with mascarpone. Will I go back? I'm not sure ... possibly. I would like to give them a second chance because it seems this place has lots of potential and very creative flavor options. So heads up to other diners - make a reservation on OpenTable , don't go during a rush hour (we didn't), and if your sushi is taking much too long.. speak up before it's been too long!

Yelp
I wasn't sure about this place but after going, I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the ambiance inside and it's much larger than you'd expect. The service was super quick and the sushi was excellent. I typically love to drench my sushi in spicy mayo which (in my opinion) means the sushi doesn't stand on its own very well. That was absolutely not needed here - both rolls were super fresh and tasted amazing without any additional sauces. Not pictured is the Spring Gyoza which I would also recommend. The Lychee Martini was also extremely refreshing.

Yelp
Maybe I'm a little biased because I do love sushi. But I have to say my experience at Nineteen Hyaku was phenomenal! First dish we had was the gyoza with the squid ink. Sounds odd but it was delicious. Packed with flavor and there was no need for soy sauce. I also had the Lemon Kari roll and the skewered mushrooms. Both zesty in flavor and all around delicious. The atmosphere of the bar and restaurant speaks contemporary elegance and sophistication. Everything was perfect and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely return and try their cocktails.

Yelp
Ambience: 4 Nicely decorated, nicer setting than most San Antonio restaurants. Service: 3 Server did her best, seemed like server didn't have any control over how fast or in what order the food came out. Food: 2 Mediocre at best. Expected more for this price point. Highlights were oysters and citrus hiramasu (sp?), which was hamachi in crudo/ceviche style. Chicken karaage was disappointing, soggy and batter/fry was poorly executed. Sushi and sashimi were so so. Nothing exciting to note. Good spot for a date if you're going for ambience.

Yelp
I'm honestly pretty sad about our experience last night. I've been probably about 4 times now and I always love it. I hope it was an off night. First complaint: it was so humid in there. It felt better outside than it did in the restaurant. When we complained, they said it's the lowest they could turn the AC. Still air, we all felt sticky, stuck to our chairs to where we had to sit in our napkins, our hair was frizzing up. Just extremely uncomfortable. Second: The food didn't wow me this time. Not bad. It was just fine. Everyone felt the same. Third: We had a party of 7. Unfortunately, they don't split tabs for what each person had. They give you a warning however. They gave us one receipt. So I asked if we could have more than one since we have to do the math ourselves to figure out what to send each other. We don't want to share one receipt between the 7 of us to figure out what we all had. It would take too long. We waited 10 minutes before I had to ask *again* for more receipts. She "thought they brought them". We watched her the whole time we waited and it seemed she was having fun talking to the other servers as well as the bartenders instead of checking in on us. I don't mind my server having fun as long as my table is taken care of. It's unfortunate because it was a lot of my group's first time there. And they're not keen on coming back. And to be honest, based off this whole experience, neither am I. Especially with splitting the tabs. For such a nice restaurant and included gratuity, you'd think it would be the least they could do. And if we would've had our own tabs, the tips would've been way bigger as most of us are in the service industry. I'm happy to have had great experiences here before, but with smaller parties. I don't recommend this place for "large" parties. Aka 7+.

Yelp
The ambiance of this place was great--super open and light. Definitely make a reservation though because it can get pretty busy, especially for a weekend evening. Our server Rachel was also great, despite the size of our party and my family members' numerous questions. I loved the appetizers and sharing options we ordered but personally thought the sushi rolls were alright. We got the chicken karaage which was crispy, lightly battered, and still moist. It came with some pickled cucumbers and shishito aioli. The chasu skewers come with three pieces of pork belly, was smoky, but still tender at the same time. The akami carpaccio was my favorite--chilled and refreshing. The rolls we got were the karai salmon, lemon kani, upscale roll, albacore tataki, and the hyaku heater. The karai salmon was a fan favorite, followed by the hyaku heater (this one was SPICY). The lychee martini was delicious--but it is quite sweet so if you don't like sweet drinks this wouldn't be for you. Overall, a good time and would definitely come back to try other items!
