Unassuming bar with late-night hours offering a simple menu of Japanese noodles.
"If you’re having trouble finding the bar Ninja Ramen in the Washington Heights neighborhood, just look for the glowing mural dedicated to a K-Pop boy band. The modest dive bar is home to some incredible bowls of tonkotsu, with tender chunks of chashu pork. Whether you get miso-laden broth or a pork-based bowl, the noodles are fresh, and the spice level can range from manageable to fire-breathing, just the way we like it. Have your ramen with a side of salted musubi and a drink in a plastic cup. Simple is always better." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"This moody Washington Avenue bar is a dependable choice when it starts getting late. Open until 2 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday, Ninja Ramen offers a simple menu with heartwarming brothless Mazeman ramen; a fiery, garlic-laden Aburamen noodle dish, plus miso caramel and Thai tea ice cream to soothe the spice." - Brittany Britto Garley, Sean Hekmat
"Ninja Ramen, owner Christopher Huang shared in an Instagram post. But he’s got a plan: he is starting a subscription OnlyFans for the restaurant that will feature photos of guests eating their hot noods, with consent. Ninja Ramen opened in 2014 and is still on Eater Houston’s map of essential ramen spots. Huang says business being down isn’t limited to his restaurant but that many of his peers are reporting the same thing since the pandemic. He writes on Instagram that spending seems to be down across the board and that Ninja Ramen is only making 80 percent of its pre-COVID revenue. He notes that he raised menu prices by 50 cents three years ago, but costs have increased 18 percent since then. With his post, Huang hopes to remind customers about the bar, which he says has the largest selection of Asian whiskeys in the country — and let them know prices will be marked down between 20 and 50 percent for a limited time." - Courtney E. "This late-night Japanese whiskey bar specializes in an Asahikawa-style ramen recipe that, according to its website, has been guarded for “2 million years” and has been made only more flavorful by its “free-range” noodles and eggs that have been serenaded and delivered by mermaids. Their jokes aside, this spot keeps it simple and flavorful — offering two versions of no-broth ramen, and one with their traditional yet complex broth." - Brittany Britto Garley
