We were in Charlotte for an event and we had some time off, so decided to go get something for dinner. We have sampled a number of different types of barbecue, but never really went in-depth when it comes to Carolina barbecue, and Noble Smoke appeared to be the place that would fix that.
We parked around what turned out to be the back, right where the smokehouse is. Just getting out of the car and observing the smokehouse promised that this was going to be a good experience. You could feel the heat from the ovens and smokers through the brickwork on the outside of the building.
The restaurant is housed in what used to be an old brick garage. It has been converted into a beautiful restaurant, and I feel that at least some parts have been added on for the smokehouse portion, but you get a feel of age and history when walking into this building.
Walking around, we spoke to the host and were quickly seated outside, as it was a beautiful evening. A bluegrass band was playing in the corner, and a wedding reception was underway out by the private room. Nearly every table was occupied this Friday night, and the staff were busy taking care of everyone.
Going over the menu, we had some ideas, but I still asked our waiter what he suggested. While he had a number of good suggestions, many of which coincided with our own thoughts, we went with what we felt to be the right choices.
We went with three meats: the pulled pork, the lean brisket, and the sausage. For sides we went with fries, butter beans, and the Western Carolina coleslaw. For drinks we went with a couple of local beers, in my case a sour as that appears to be the only type I can stand.
All of the food was good, with only the pulled pork being an item that was just "good"... everything else was excellent!
The brisket had an incredible smoke ring on it, and even my mother enjoyed it. The sausage had a creaminess to it with just a hint of jalapeno to spice things up. For the sides, the fries were perfect on their own and did not need any seasoning, the butter beans were buttery smooth, and the coleslaw had an incredible vinegary flavor that had a light kick to it that was wonderful.
Next time we will probably change out the pulled pork for some chicken or the smoked turkey. The pork was good, but it was an item that we feel could be swapped out.
The staff were incredible the entire time. They were constantly helping each other out, and the teamwork was evident. You will be taken care of when you go here!
