Yelp
This is the most upscale Mexican restaurant in Tulsa and more like 4.5 stars. You must go into it expecting unique and different from your standard Mexican place around town. If you moved to Tulsa from a larger city like us where places like Noche were common, you will appreciate the style and quality of this restaurant even more.
Food & Drinks
- The complimentary black bean dip was bland and gave you maybe 5-6 bites. I was hoping it would be like Gloria's black bean dip in Dallas with lots of flavor, but it didn't have much.
- House-made guacamole is a must. I'm not a fan of lime, but it was subtle.
- Hazel's Crushed Tamale Queso is as distinct as its name. Thick and full of flavor. The house made tortillas that come with it couldn't be fresher!
- Three Way Salsa is a must to try the salsa varieties at least once. Chips are extra thick.
- Two people can split multiple apps easily as portions aren't huge, but not small. My husband and I split the queso, guac, salsas, and still ordered meals.
- Noche Chopped Salad with my choice of tenderloin on top: Huge and phenomenal. Meat had great flavor and cooked medium rare.
- Wood-fired chicken fajitas: My husband thought they were too smokey and felt like he was eating "wood chips" but I thought they were ok. Expect a strong smoke flavor, and the meat is very tender! You do not receive beans and rice with the fajitas like other places.
- Casacoin Margarita: The best! We had two each; they are quite strong. Tasted as fresh as can be.
- The water glasses are the smallest glasses I've ever seen, but they leave you with a large glass bottle of water to refill as needed.
Staff: Bartenders were attentive and never missed a beat. All staff we encountered were nice and helpful. The only thing I did not like is the bar was wide open when we arrived, and they made us sit at specific seats then sat couples on each side of us when plenty of spaces were open to spread out. The guy next to me actually apologized for being so close and said they told him not to move seats. Weird.
Seating: Unless you like backless chairs, request a booth or sit at the bar for your reservation (definitely recommend a reservation as they book up on Open Table). They tried to seat us at a table with red, metal, backless bar stools, and we moved to the bar with comfortable leather chairs (with backs). I would expect stools like that in a hole in the wall sports bar, not here!
Restrooms: Unisex, single stall privacy bathrooms - the best kind! Clean and roomy.
Parking: You can pay $5 to park in the lot next door or valet is $10 (only after a certain time though). There is also city street parking. We had a 4:15pm reservation, valet wasn't available yet, and the parking lot was being heavily monitored by a guy writing tickets, so plan ahead. Parking fills up quickly in evenings as there are other places like Vu and Elgin Park bar there too.
Price: Expect to pay $12+ for appetizers (except the $7 salsa trio), $12+ for ritas, and $20+ for meals. This is standard for this type of environment.
The vibe is nice, fun, vibrant, and exactly what Tulsa needs!
