I've never been to Italy or had authentic Italian food (unless Olive Garden and Kenny's count lol), but I'm pretty sure this is as close as you can get to having a homemade Italian meal here in DFW.
I have this place bookmarked for probably over 2 years, keep coming to this area too, but never thought about paying it a visit. Until one day when it took us over 15 minutes to figure out a place for lunch (I usually always have 2-3 places in mind at any given moment lol, so 15minutes is a long time for us to figure out where to eat), where we have not been to yet in the area. My significant other suggested this place and Nonna Tata it was for lunch!
It's a super small restaurant, with about 3-4 tables inside that can fit maybe 12-15 people comfortably, anymore than that and you'd be elbowing each other. The outside doesn't look appealing much, except for their super cute patio with another 4-5 more tables. I don't believe they take reservation unless it's a big party. When we arrived, there was no one else in the restaurant, turned out, the time listed on yelp was wrong. They were supposed to close just a few minutes before we got there, but the gentleman running the restaurant was super nice and accommodating. Not only did he not turn us away, he was more than happy to attend to us.
For appetizer, we went with the calamari. If I see calamari on the menu at an "Italian" restaurant, it's almost an automatic thing for me to get. Without even reading the description, I expected it to be deep fried, greasy, with some marinara sauce on the side. Their calamari appetizer here is FAR from that! It's more of a stir fried version, comes with some arugula. I'm not sure how they make the sauce, but it was freaking delicious! I wanted to clean the plate with all the bread it came with. Honestly, I could eat 2-3 plates of this only and be happy here!
For entrees, he got the pollo al limone and I got myself the limone e spinaci. Forget about all the salt loaded dishes from Olive Garden (I feel so wrong comparing this place to OG lol), their pasta dishes here are so simple, but everything tasted fresh, cooked just right, not greasy or heavy like most places.
So many people mentioned the torta ciotola/apple-pear cake. I was excited to try it, unfortunately, they ran out. We settled for the panna cotta instead. It must have been the biggest panna cotta I've ever had. It was smooth, not overly sweet, and come with homemade strawberry sauce on top too.
This place seems very underrated. Don't let the look outside and inside deter you. It's a must check out place if you live in DFW!
