NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"If you’ve been in a fancy grocery store anytime since 2016, you might have noticed Noona’s Ice Cream, a local brand with flavors like toasted rice, gochujang caramel, and strawberry yuzu dreamsicle. They’ve got a brick and mortar in the East Village now, so stop by for some pints before that Hallmark movie marathon." - will hartman, bryan kim

NYC New Restaurant Openings: November 2024 - Eater NY

"Noona’s ice cream, officially opens December 4, but if you can’t wait until December, the new location will open with limited hours and an abbreviated menu on November 26 and 27. Previously, Hannah Bae’s ice cream company has served flavors like black sesame, Thai tea, pandan, and gochujang caramel cookie dough through specialty grocery stores. The shop serves sundaes in addition to its pints." - Emma Orlow

Noona’s Ice Cream Shop Is Opening in the East Village - Eater NY

"It began with Hannah Bae figuring out how to distill the flavors of crunchy rice at the bottom of the pan, a favorite from her childhood, into toasted rice ice cream. Over time, she developed a repertoire of Asian American flavors like black sesame, Thai tea, red bean, pandan, and taro. She’s always innovating: One day it's mochi cookies and cream, the next, gochujang caramel cookie dough and makgeolli. Noona’s — a reference to the Korean word for older sister — sells at specialty grocers around the city and beyond. But this week, Bae announced that she will open her first ice cream shop in the East Village, at 304 E. Fifth Street, near Second Avenue, in August." - Emma Orlow
