Hallelujah! A diner in West Village.
I went to Norm's on opening day and had the best turkey club with heirloom tomatoes and herby mayonnaise. My friend had the pancakes and a malt. I'm telling you, this place could be half as good and it would still be great. I almost went back today but I "you have food here"-ed myself and what was that food? The other half of my turkey club! Still delicious cold, sitting two days in the fridge.
They are open 8am to 4pm, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I know it's too much to wish that they were open 24/7, one thing I miss about my previous city. But that's one thing I miss among a million I do not miss, so I'll be grateful for a diner that's open 8/5.
Service was very friendly and good. What I noticed was how chill and efficient it was for an opening day, food was coming out at a good pace, coffee and water was refilled, they checked in on as after we got our food and again about midway in.
I also really love the design and decor: it's very thoughtful without being overwrought. It's beautiful and bright inside with the large windows overlooking Agnes Street. I love the creme and burgundy color scheme, and the counter and the stools (nice, plush stools, not the evil metal ones!), purse hooks. It gives a 50s diner vibe with a sleek Swedish aesthetic.
In addition to the hot food they also have a cooler with some grab and go things. If you're planning on coming, use their wait-list app which is on their website and Instagram. Street parking is free but can be sparse at times. I feel like a lot of people had walked there so we were able to find parking pretty close. There are bike racks in front of Metropolitan if that's your preferred mode of transportation.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Norm's!
