The Best Chinese Restaurants Around NYC

"An offshoot of the first dollar dumpling stall on Allen Street, Fried Dumpling is a closet located on Mosco Street. As the generic name suggests, the menu is as bare bones as can be, currently offering only fried pork dumplings, hot soy milk, and hot-and-sour soup. It’s takeout only, so plan to eat in the park at the bottom of the street." - Robert Sietsema

A great neighborhood dumpling spot, no nonsense or fluff but delicious food at great prices. Quick, efficient and friendly service…sit with locals as there’s limited seating. Possibly cash only.

This is one of the better cheap eat places around Chinatown that is not a tourist trap. Forget about Shu Jiao Fu Zhou where it’s chaos, or Chang Lai Fishballs which is cramped and tiny, North Dumpling is spacious, clean, and quiet. I’d say it’s a place where the locals go for a cheap meal. It operates like a one-stall food court with more affordable prices. You order and pay (cash only) at the counter, go find a place to sit, and you wait for your dishes to be called. Yeah, I don’t think they take names or assign numbers lol. Once you finish, you take your bowls and plates to the counter, or you can leave them at the table but you’d better tip accordingly. Their menu is more extensive than the aforementioned SJFZ or CLF, meaning it’s less specialized. That said, the name sake does have the word “dumpling” in it, so we did order the potstickers which only come with one combination of fillings: pork and chives. The order came with 10 potstickers for $4. Great deal and you don’t have to stand at the street corners to enjoy. Each table have soy sauce, vinegar, and chili sauce. Another thing to note is they supply forks instead of chopsticks. They probably do have chopsticks but we didn’t bother to ask because everyone (all Chinese) used forks while we were there. Potstickers were good. We also asked for an order of Chive Pancakes - $3 for 2. While good, I’ve had better ones in Flushing. The filling was less full nor as tasty. Overall, I would recommend this place as part of your Chinatown food crawl.

Just what you hope for. A simple, IMPECCABLY CLEAN restaurant, with very friendly and helpful people and the freshest dumplings I've had. We need to come back.

I found this place while I was walking by because I saw the sign for the 10 dumplings for $4. I wasn’t really expecting anything but I was very pleasantly surprised. The people there are really nice and you can see them make the dumplings. I really recommend this place, the dumplings were really tasty and for that price you can’t find better than that.

Dumplings are the best in Chinatown. They have two locations and this one has inside seating. Dumplings are hand made and fresh. Chef makes them in front so you can watch. The sesame pancake with pork was also very good and recommended. Note: Cash Only. There is an ATM inside.

I’ve been a loyal customer for over 10 years, and they never disappoint. The people here are lovely, and the food is absolutely delicious. My go-to order is the pan-fried dumplings (10 for $4) paired with the small hot and sour soup ($2.50)—it’s hands down the best in Chinatown! I also highly recommend the chive pancakes—2 for just $3. They’re a must-try. Great food, amazing value, and wonderful people. Highly recommend!
