The 18 Best Restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky | Eater

"Chef Lawrence Weeks earned a 2024 James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist nod for this Germantown spot. At North of Bourbon, Weeks cooks eclectic Southern food, drawing particular inspiration from Creole and Cajun cuisine and the food of Louisiana and Mississippi. Shrimp yakamein is a popular pick, a mix of gulf shrimp sausage, local spaghetti, Louisiana chili crisp, scallions, crispy onions, and shrimp broth that’s said to cure a hangover. Speaking of which, North of Bourbon also boasts an extensive bourbon selection and a creative cocktail menu that earned it a place as one of America’s Best Bourbon Bars, according to The Bourbon Review in 2022. Must-try dish: Regulars love the crawfish boudin balls, based on a popular dish at gas stations in southwest Louisiana. Weeks’s version is a rice ball made with onions, bell peppers, and celery, served with Creole mustard aioli." - Lennie Omalza

Where To Celebrate Old Fashioned Week in Louisville | Eater

"As its name would suggest, North of Bourbon offers an extensive bourbon list, boasting nearly 200 types of the spirit. There’s also a long list of cocktails available, including five versions of an old fashioned. The one to try during Elijah Craig Old Fashioned week, though, is “The Forbidden Fruit.” The Elijah Craig cocktail features a spiced apple cider syrup with cardamom and walnut bitters, and is garnished with a dehydrated apple. Enjoy it in one of the custom-built barrel booths while dining on the restaurant’s most-ordered item: crawfish boudin balls, served with a house-made creole mustard aioli." - Vox Creative

Decent meal. Decent drinks. Exceptional service. My expectations were a little bit high coming in due to the hype and reviews. And in all honesty, I was a little bit disappointed. The table that we were seated at felt like we were placed in a time out corner. The bench was worn down and it felt like I was back in being in the kids table to say the least. It made it uncomfortable to get up to use the restroom without being too awkward to disturb the table next to us. The rest of the place seemed warm and inviting outside of the little corner that we were assigned in. I would highly recommend to either do high top bar of a better seating and have it down to just 2 people in that corner rather than the existing table that can potentially and uncomfortably fit 4 people in. Service was great. Friendly staff and just the right amount of check-ins. Food..we got what was recommended and really nothing to boast about. My dish was a bit salty but bearable. However for the price of what we got I'm definitely not impressed.

What an incredible experience at North of Bourbon! We were in town for a friend’s birthday and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable—and the drinks were expertly crafted, perfectly complementing the meal. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and every single one was exceptional. The Oysters & Champagne were fresh, bright, and beautifully presented—a perfect start to the evening. The Pork Boudin Balls were rich and flavorful, with the creole mustard aioli and spicy pickles adding the ideal balance of heat and tang. The Hams of the South platter was a true highlight, showcasing an incredible variety of regional country hams—Dakota, Newsoms, Edward, Broadbent, and Benton’s—each paired perfectly with the red eye aioli, pepper jelly, and house pickles. The Peppered Catfish Nuggets were a fun and delicious surprise—crispy, tender, and elevated by the house tiger sauce and creole aioli. The Fried Chicken Gumbo was comfort food perfection—deep, rich chocolate roux, tender chicken, and the perfect amount of spice and okra. The Beef Yakamein was another standout—tender chuck roast, hearty broth, and a soft egg that tied it all together. Rounding things out, the Potato Wedges with Duke’s Mayo and the Collard Greens were the ultimate Southern sides—simple, flavorful, and beautifully executed. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and crafted with care. The atmosphere was lively yet intimate, making it the perfect place to celebrate or just enjoy an exceptional meal. Highly recommend North of Bourbon

My partner and I had an incredible experience at North of Bourbon and will certainly be returning for this week’s specials! Our bartender/waiter Jack was incredibly well-informed and warm, even giving us recommendations for bourbon & activities around the city. We began with a fantastic espresso martini drink made with Wild Turkey Bourbon and the crispiest pork boudin balls. We were so impressed by the delightful texture and flavor of the pork balls. We followed with my personal favorite, the juicy & delicious catfish nuggets, which Jack had recommended. They are flown in from Louisiana and incredibly fresh and juicy. Next was the perfectly grilled hamachi collar (my partner’s favorite) and finally, the aromatic seafood couvillion. We enjoyed 4 incredible sweet potato calas as a dessert, that were at once simple, homey, comforting, and absolutely delicious. The experience was a cultural masterclass, and Jack was gracious enough to discuss the restaurant’s culinary choices. We live in NYC and were blown away by the hospitality, warmth, and absolute culinary skill of this establishment! Thank you Jack and the NoB team! We recommend wholeheartedly!

Google
Absolutely PHENOMENAL! We could move from GA to Louisville just to eat here regularly! Order the Peppered catfish bites for sure. Yet anything you order is perfect! Cocktails included. Service wonderful and what a cool interior! Boiled Cajun peanuts as a treat while you wait!

Google
First time to Louisville. We had to book this place 2 weeks in advance. I feel like this is more of an avant garde style of Southern food. I really enjoyed the many selections of whiskey flights. Duck gumbo was definitely “different” than the usual Southern gumbo you would get. The jalapeño poppers were delicious. So were the catfish nuggets.

We bring our providers here for lunch, the location works for us and it’s one of the only nice sit down restaurants in the area, a little speak easy style place to eat or drink. They have giant bourbon barrels to sit in. Pretty cool little spot. We always have great service and have never had a dish we didn’t enjoy!

Amazing food, cocktails, and service! I tried as many dishes as I could, and every single one was absolutely delicious. The décor is also unique and adds to the whole experience.

Google
BEST MEAL EVER! Seriously, I like to think I’m a pretty experienced diner, I came here with two other people and they both agreed some of the best bites ever! Service was great, we got soooo much food and no crumbs left behind. Host was amazing, server Frankie was great, drinks were poppin, we were sitting at the table already planning our next trip in, we had the catfish, ceviche, pork boudin balls, crab rice dressing, seafood scampi, and gumbo, putting duck in gumbo you know it’s gonna be amazing, I can’t wait to come back and have the cornbread dessert while they’ve still got it. My mouth is watering writing this, just go there. Thank me later.

Yelp
As of this writing, we're about a year removed from North of Bourbon getting crowned in a New York Times article, "The Restaurant List: Our 50 favorite places in America right now," but I think it still qualifies as trendy. Sure, Meesh Meesh (owned by the same people) has become the hotter reservation, and chef Lawrence Weeks has departed for a new venture. But more importantly, North of Bourbon has matured into a reliable neighborhood spot, with good service and delicious food that makes it qualify as an "occasion" restaurant but not one that doesn't deliver. For our most recent visit, I went with three friends and we shared five dishes, a great formula for getting a broad culinary tour. Our server not only gave us extra plates, we also all were given bowls so that we could split the splendid beef yakamein and its 24-hour beef broth. We also all ordered cocktails and still escaped having spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 per person (minus tip). That's pretty good. Two other minor things that aren't really that minor: I really appreciate that the restaurant makes very clear which of their menu items are smaller portions and which ones are larger. Too many restaurants make that difficult. I also appreciate that the big barrels in the restaurant (which seat 4 or 6) are not just kitsch -- it's a lot easier to have a normal conversation in there. Even though we went on a Saturday night, decibel levels were not an issue for us. Long story short, I've now been here several times and my own track record says that you get a better-than-ordinary dining experience at a price point that is entirely reasonable.

Yelp
Love this spot! The food, drink and atmosphere is top rated. If we lived here, we'd be regulars. We didn't have a reservation and lucked up with seats at the bar which I love. You get to talk to the mixologist and make friends with people next to you and see what food they order. Interior space was unique as there were booths made like barrels. Too cool. Everyone we came in contact was knowledgeable, helped select food, drinks and helpful all around. I've been telling people if my experience ever since.

Yelp
Wife and I swung through here as I had this place flagged for well over a year... today we finally had the time to venture outside of downtown and off our intended path. It's tucked away in an older industrial-ish neighborhood area. It's dimly lit and a great place to hang out for a few hours while you're figuring out what to drink/eat. Wife and I settled in to the bar for a drink and glanced at their extensive bourbon list and wall of bourbon options. They have a ton single barrel selections to pick from as well as unicorn bottles, mid term allocated items and much more. We wound up splitting a couple things.. Chili Cheese Burger, Mac n cheese, and some of the pork balls from the appetizer menu. It was all portioned well and perfect for splitting.. it filled us up nicely. But we're not miserably full, which is always a plus. The food was very good and the quality of the ingredients definitely shined! The staff was super friendly, but didn't have many people working, so our service at the bar was slightly slow.. but not a big deal as we're not in a huge hurry. We will gladly be back!

Yelp
We've been a few times & have always enjoyed our visits. Atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Would recommend getting a dinner reservation because there isn't a lot of seating. Easy go-to choices for us are boudin balls, gumbo & the fries with mayonnaise. They always have a great menu and lead us to reminiscing of when we went to New Orleans. Oh! And their drinks are excellent! The one with Parmesean in it - omg.

Yelp
Restaurant that has a menu of roots stemming from Louisiana and Mississippi and boasts a fantastic selection of bourbons. I'm a tourist from the west coast, but NOLA is one of my top three fave food cities in the US and I'm a fan of bourbon, so I really wanted to come here. I made a reservation later in the evening because I was flying into Indy and driving down to Louisville that day. Just wanted to make sure I would make it on time. When I got there, my seat was ready at the bar. I wanted to get a pour of bourbon I usually can't find in my area. I ended up getting a pour of Four Gate. I got some complimentary spicy boiled peanuts and I ordered a couple of baked oysters (with gremolata butter) to start. Wonderful so far. I was trying to pace myself because I had a pretty indulgent weekend trip planned (food/drink-wise). I ordered the crab rice dressing because it sounded like it was on the lighter side and of course it sounded delicious as well. And it was! Pretty much the south version of crab fried rice with plenty of flavors coming through. I also ended ordering up a 'Some Sorta Milk Punch' and the cheesecake. The cocktail was solid, but a little thick (clarified milk punch cocktails is kind of the rage where I live right now). Cheesecake was good. Just a wonderful meal and experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. The vibe/ambiance was eclectic. I can see folks coming here for a celebratory meal, date night, jovial group outings, and even a casual night out looking for delicious food and drinks. some of the booths are shaped as oversized barrels, which is fun. Would love to come back the next time I'm in town.

Yelp
We were visiting during LDW and did research on restaurants to check out. I was excited to see that it was walking distance from the Airbnb and the happy hour menu on a Saturday! We called ahead because we had our dogs, and I saw they only have two outdoor tables. They were so accommodating to reserve one for us. The HH specials were really great, and we even caught the tail end of lunch. Everything was seasoned well and unique. The Baked Oysters were creamy and a balance of salty and sweet. The Shrimp PoBoy was my favorite, but the Peppered Catfish was a close second. I thought the Delta Wet Salad was a tad overdressed, but in hindsight, makes sense why it's named "wet." The service was spectacular, and we spoke with the owner for a few minutes- he recommended other restaurants in Louisville, and had we had more time, we would've definitely tried to go to some of them.

Yelp
North of Bourbon is a must-visit! The atmosphere is cozy but upscale, and the bourbon selection is incredible. The food blew us away -- especially the steak skewers, which were packed with flavor and a great value. Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and the whole experience felt really well thought out. Perfect spot for cocktails, dinner, or a date night. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
North of Bourbon absolutely deserves five stars--this place blew me away from start to finish. I was shocked in the best way to find an affordable pour of Rock Hill Farms, which already set the tone for a great night, but the food took it even further. The cornbread was excellent--warm, buttery, and honestly memorable on its own--but the true standout was the fried chicken gumbo. I couldn't believe how succulent and juicy the fried chicken was, staying crisp on the outside while still incredibly tender inside, all soaking up that rich, flavorful gumbo base. The atmosphere was warm and stylish, the staff were friendly and clearly knew their bourbon, and everything just hit exactly the way you want a Southern-inspired bourbon bar to hit. I'll 100% be back on my next trip to Kentucky.

Yelp
I was in town for work and a coworker and I stopped here for dinner. Shoutout to Eric, who waited on us, was super friendly and passionate about the menu. Their specials menu looked fantastic, so we chose: - oysters - red snapper ceviche - sweet corn gazpacho - seafood scampi We split most of the dishes and they were kind enough to split the gazpacho for us. All the dishes were AMAZING! We were absolutely stuffed and really enjoyed our time here. It does get busy so I highly recommend making reservations!

Yelp
We've visited twice, both amazing experiences... But the most recent left me required to review! It doesn't matter where you sit, you'll get prompt attention and great service. It doesn't matter what you order, it will be delicious. It doesn't matter what you drink, it will be unique and worth every penny. Just go. And tell Eric we said hi.

Yelp
Service was on time, gave recommendations, ordered the onion burger. It was okay, a little under cooked, disappointed they were frozen, but the start of the show was the fish nuggets and the boiled peanuts??...yes boiled peanuts were served complimentary. Drunkin Noodle: Nice bar of course, had all brown liquor ..good stuff
google avatar

Yelp
It's my favorite spot in Louisville! The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. The seating employs a unique usage of oak cask into a cozy booth which easily seats 5 adults. The food is divine and varied. The bourbon list is long! Jack, our waiter, guided us through the menu and provided great suggestions. From the appetizers to dessert - each dish was well prepared and beautifully plated. For a party of three, the bill was approximately $300.00. Make reservations, you can sit at the bar, booth inside or tables outside, and there is street parking.
google avatar

Brandon Y.

Yelp
Went here for a nightcap and it was really great! They take great care curating their cocktail menu despite boasting an amazing Bourbon selection. Ordered two well balanced cocktails. James and Phil the bartenders were spectacular. Elevated bar experience for sure.
google avatar

Katrina G.

Yelp
We made a reservation for a group of three in advance and this place was very popular. It can get busy so highly recommend making a reservation in advance! The food was amazing here we all enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent as well. The dining atmosphere is both cozy but upscale. They have tables that look like they are in large bourbon barrels around them, which was cool. I had the barley and beet salad and it was delicious and very flavorful! The food is also priced well for well for what you get. The only negative is that they use every space so it can feel a little cramped at times defending on table you are at. Highly recommend checking this place out for the atmosphere, incredible food, and service!

Yelp
I attended a special event here and it was top notch from start to finish. The Welcome Cocktail, a Goldrush, was refreshing and a nice start. Then we had a small plate Yam Biscuit, sweet and savory. Then a delicious salad with apples, sweet onion, cornbread, bacon dressing. Entree was a Poulet Chicken & Dumplings dish with a lot going on, spicy and flavorful. Closed out with a transparent pie which helped soothe a spice addled palate. Each course was served with a bourbon pour. As you might guess, this is a bourbon bar. Huge selection attractively displayed behind the long bar. Quite a few seats along that bar plus booths set inside large "barrels" that provided privacy and comfort. The staff kept the food and drinks moving swiftly, with attention and pleasantry. If this special event service and quality is indicative of their everyday performance, I recommend you try NOB.

Yelp
This spot was in a slightly sketchy area but oh boy, what a great place for lunch! Some wanted bourbon, and they got it- others wanted wine and cocktails and also were happy with options. I split the French onion burger and ranch salad with my husband and both were fantastic. Others had the ham and cheese sandwich . We also had a cheesecake that was fluffy and light- unnecessary after all of our food but so delicious! Definitely recommend this spot.
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
Made a reservation for two at the bar for drinks. It wasn't busy when we arrived, so we were lucky that our friends could join us last minute. We were taken care of by James. He was wonderful- sharing stories, educating us on cocktails etc. We had a couple rounds of drinks. The favorites were "what a smokeshow" and "off the cuff". After two rounds of drinks each, James made us a custom cocktail which was pretty cool cuz he could see what we liked and then base it on that. Very unique. The menu looked good. The couple next to us had the pork chop and fries. He didn't finish it- must've been a great portion. Seems they change some items on the menu. I thought the lobster rice, the shrimp noodles and the baked oysters sounded awesome. We will have to come back here for food. We have been here a couple times for drinks and we have enjoyed. Would recommend!

Yelp
Enjoyed a meal with family here on a Saturday evening. Food was excellent, service was also. Drinks were nicely made and just right. We had a booth in the barrel and loved the atmosphere. The noise wasn't too loud and it helped being in the booth. Raw Oysters on ice with little miller beers were an interesting presentation! Pork Boudin, Fried Catfish, Crawfish Boudin, Crab Bucatini, Boiled Peanuts (not a fan but the table liked them) we ate our way through the menu basically! The bar is long and is directly across from the barrel booths. All in all a wonderful meal and service! Thank you kindly for a lovely evening with our family.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing, from the service to the food & cocktails as well as the beautiful space. It's our new fav spot in Louisville. The menu has a lot of options for everyone and we should know, we were here 3 times in one weekend because we wanted to try more. Every dish was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The brown butter-washed old fashioned is perfection, and incredibly priced on the happy hour menu. We only wish we were here longer to try more!
google avatar

Yelp
We came here off the plane before going to the distilleries. The food, the service, the layout and the drinks were out of this world. Must come here if you are in the area. The creole, muffuletta sandwich, and the pastrami sandwich were awesome. Kirsten was the best waiter we have had for a while.

Yelp
North of Bourbon was all around a fantastic experience - food, service, ambiance, all of it. Our server was Frankie, who was extremely polite, knew the menu well, and was attentive without being overbearing. 10/10 server, he needs a raise. For food we tried the catfish bites, crispy andouille, citrus shrimp, and mac and cheese. It was enough food for three people. The catfish was perfectly breaded but still had the flavor of the catfish; whatever sauce it came with was incredible. The crispy andouille was so dang good, as was the beer cheese and rye bread that accompanied the dish. The citrus shrimp had good flavor but I've never had soft shell shrimp before so I wasn't used to eating the entire thing. Mac and cheese was also fabulous. My favorite I think was the catfish. For dessert we ordered the peach cobbler, which they were out of but instead gave us a pecan cobbler. Super delicious even on a hot day. Overall this is a superb experience from start to finish. We had a reservation for 6:00 on a Saturday night and the restaurant filled up by the time we were done. I'd imagine you could find a spot for one or maybe two at the bar if you can't get a reservation. The other thing I really enjoyed about my experience was the noise level - it was just right. Not too loud that I had to yell but loud enough that I wasn't listening to other people's conversations. Please check this place out, totally worth the hype!

Yelp
I had a chance to check out North of Bourbon for lunch. I sat at the bar and the bartender was great. She provided recommendations for drinks and food. I ordered a cocktail that she made and it was really good and refreshing. For food I ordered their speciality catfish nuggets which were really good and macaroni and cheese. They were both really good! I like the ambiance of the restaurant and plan to return.

Yelp
Amazing. This place is absolutely amazing. My husband and I came on his birthday for happy hour and, needless to say, we will absolutely be back for lunch or dinner. First: the ambiance is awesome. It's cozy and sophisticated with bourbon barrel booths that provide a nice romantic, secluded feel. Second: the service was exceptional. Friendly and informative without being overbearing. Third: the food and drink are outstanding. As you would expect from the name, this place specializes in bourbon and they have a blue million options to choose from. Pours, mixed drinks, flights, you name it. I am not a bourbon fan so I just opted for beer but my husband absolutely loved the two Old Fashioneds he got. The food was wonderful. We tried a few things from the happy hour menu: the charcuterie board, catfish nuggets, crab and andouille fritters, and the oysters of the day. The charcuterie board was nicely appointed and was a great value. The catfish and the crab fitters are absolute must trys. Everything was perfectly cooked and so full of flavor. The oysters were latin inspired and really packed a nice spicy punch at the end. Man, my mouth is watering thinking about those crab fritters...

Yelp
This place was excellent. Apparently reservations are hard to score, but my friend got one about 3 weeks ago, for 3:00 p.m. today, so we did a late lunch/early dinner here with our husbands - we are in town visiting from Detroit. There are a few standalone tables and a few bourbon barrels that you can sit in! We had one of the barrels. We started off with the boudin balls which were excellent, although you only get three pre-order so we ordered two of them for the four of us. I was waffling between the ham sandwich and the steak frites for lunch but I got the steak and did not regret it, it was delicious as was the horseradish dipping sauce for the potatoes. My husband got the lamb gumbo and also really enjoyed it. All of our drinks were good as well, and waitservice was friendly. They'll start you off with some boiled peanuts which was also interesting, the only time I've had that was during a work trip in Georgia. Overall I would definitely come back here as everything was super tasty.
google avatar

Keli T.

Yelp
I've been here now too many times to count. Great service, great drinks and great food. I really like how the menu changes seasonally. The last memorable time I was there was for father's day. The brunch was the first time taking my husband and he fell in love with the eclectic menu and the different old fashioned options. This is now in our rotation.

Yelp
In a small nondescript building belies a tremendous find. A cocktail bar disguised as a destination restaurant or the other way around?? Regardless, do yourself a favor and visit this Creole food / bourbon cocktail place in the Louisville area Great friendly service, wonderful food and drinks, great atmosphere
google avatar

Yelp
So if you live in Louisville and have not been here... you do not know what you are missing. If you are visiting Louisville, this is a must go. The food is great and the atmosphere and service is second to none. The bar has a huge Burbon selection at a reasonable price that is supported by a knowledgable staff and custom drinks. The glasses are chilled with liquid nitrogen for added coldness. It is not large and seating is limited so might need reservations. as it fills up quickly. Food selection and specials are great for this size establishment. The catfish nuggets are great appitizers. We had the shrimp scampi and buttermilk salad. We split it as that is what we do as we are older. It was plenty for both of us and we could not finish the scampi. The oysters were excellent. Great size and comes in thier own marinade. They have shareable sides. This place is worth the visit.

Yelp
Corporate Jet pilot. Quick stop over SFD. I found this gem on Yelp. It was a 5 minute Uber ride from my Hilton Garden Inn north of the airport. I am SO glad I did! From the moment I walked in the staff made me feel welcome and like I was a "regular" even though we just met. James and his crew behind the reclaimed wood bar were like old college mates I'd never met! The oysters were fresh and exciting. Amazing. I had a difficult choice on the entrees but settled for the Shrimp Scampi... to die for! Homemade angel hair pasta and just the right amount of accompaniments. And then. The finale! The Cajun Cheesecake! It tasted just like Grandma from Baton Rouge use to make! On my SFD list from now on. Hidden gem.

Yelp
Amazing!!! 20 out of 5 stars! Service was incredible. The food was perfect. The ambiance was outstanding. We were met by our server, Jack. He enthusiastically offered to find an umbrella for our outdoor table. Emma then appeared with a giant bowl of water for our pup. The menus arrived. First question, "what is that coffee drink?" Jack announced we needed one. He then appeared back at our table a moment later with said drink. If we didn't like it, we didn't have to pay for it. Oh, we liked it!!! The men ordered the lunch special f fried chicken with collard greens, macaroni salad and mashed potatoes. Nothing remained on either of their plates when they finished. My friend and I shared the onion burger. That was perhaps the best burger I've ever eaten. The bun was just right. The burger and onions were cooked perfectly. And the cheese was the exact right amount. Peach cobbler for dessert was a perfect finish to the meal. Jack- if he waits on you tell him Kirsten says "hi." Ask him if he's wearing his chaps when he's climbing trees. And give him a generous tip. He's a great human being.

Yelp
This place is incredible! Every single dish we tried was absolutely delicious. As soon as we sat down, they brought out boiled peanuts--one of my all-time favorite snacks--which was such a fun touch. We went family style, and every plate looked like a work of art and somehow tasted even better than it looked. Our server was super knowledgeable and gave us fantastic recommendations. While the experience definitely felt like fine dining, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food and service were good. However they stuck us by the corner window which was tight and low to the ground. I'm 6'3 and it was really uncomfortable. For the price they charge better seating is needed.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! The staff was friendly, professional and efficient. The ambience and food had a NOLA vibe that was so cool. I would DEFINITELY recommend North of Bourbon!

Yelp
Let me just say WOW! Food is amazing. The booths are inside large arches like old wine barrels. Very charming. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were helpful and friendly and make excellent cocktails. Definitely worth going if you are in the area!

Yelp
This experience was so delicious and wonderful. We were blessed to be able to snag a dinner reservation and didn't regret a penny of the $400 we spent. The Chef and his team are so talented at elevating Cajun flavors to create a spectacular menu. There was not a single thing our group did not love. Some of the standouts were the potato salad (best ever), the special of red snapper (hints of curry flavors), the shrimp noodles (spicy and complex), the macaroni and cheese (seriously), and the quail (sticky, sweet and savory). Notably, we all said it ranked in our top five restaurants we've ever dined at (and that's saying something!). The service was also wonderful - we love that the co-owner came around to take his time to speak with us- it was a nice touch. Really though, you have to get here...it's that good.

Yelp
What a great place! I love the blend of Louisville & Louisiana...super unique & delicious. The cocktails are the best, my fave is the NOB Old Fashion. My husband and I enjoyed raw & baked oysters, the chopped salad, peppered catfish nuggets, and for dessert the sweet potato cala. EVERYTHING was outstanding. This restaurant was named to the NY Times Top 50 restaurants in 2024. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Louisville.

Yelp
We came with a group of 6! Let's start with the ambiance, one cool place! Located in Germantown, Louisville, we had doubts until we saw the entrance. We could tell this place was happening! The service and staff were phenomenal. Answered all of our questions, made recommendations, and were respectful and most accommodating. We ordered several pours of bourbon and were delighted with much of the selection. We tried several cocktails: Boulevardaire, Proceed with Caution, Make it Rain, Where there's smoke there's Fire, Shelby Drink your Juice, Buttered Old Fashioned, NOB, Rose colored glasses. All were fabulous! The food is served family style. We had oysters, crab gemelli, crab rice dressing, pear salad, peppered catfish nuggets, and Mac and cheese. Dessert finished the meal with cheesecake, sweet potato cala, and plantains foster. We left no food on any of these plates! The sweet potato cala was the surprise favorite! Do not pass this place up! You even get to sit in an actual barrel to enjoy your meal.

Yelp
Gave it another shot and it was better. Not exceptional but definitely 4 stars. Service was the best part along with the deep fried sweet potato balls off their dessert menu.

Yelp
Always fantastic food and service. Went for lunch and had crawfish pasta and gumbo. Best meal I've had there, and I've had other great dinners/brunches at north of Bourbon

Yelp
Nestled on a quiet residential street in Germantown, NoB is the perfect place to gather for a casual bite and enjoy a moody, luxury experience inspired by southern cuisine and culture. Frankie, our server, was extremely friendly and attentive. My husband and I savored two cocktails, the unique take on the caesar salad, two of the Daily Evening Specials: grilled swordfish on a bed of jollof rice, braised cabbage, okra and lime and 45-day aged American waygu, mushroom jus and fondant potatoes. Lastly, we wrapped up our date night with sweet potato bites with powdered sugar and icing for a 10/10 dining experience! We've visited NoB twice before for brunch and lunch and will likely visit again and again!

Yelp
I was excited to try this restaurant after seeing it on the 100 best new restaurants of 2024 list and it didn't disappoint! The restaurant is basically bar seating but has booths that resemble bourbon barrels which is so cool! I didn't have a resy so I sat at the bar and ordered from the happy hour menu. They don't skimp on portions and the libations are fun and tasty: I had the Shelby Drink Your Juice (from Steel Magnolias) if you like sweet I would highly recommend. All of the staff were friendly and down to earth. Definitely a Louisville staple for me moving forward.

Yelp
Great new place in Germantown! It's small, so plan ahead and reserve on Open Table. Can sit at the bar without a reservation, but the bar got packed by 6PM on a Friday. Really cute decor with cask frames around some booths. Super nice staff. Tons of bourbon choices. We shared a nice pork chop, a salad and a curious spaetzle & artichoke side dish. Bathrooms were clean. Only suggestion is better red wine choices.

Yelp
What a spot! From the dusty bourbon case to the barrel shaped booths, this restaurant has KY vibes through and through. When looking over the menu though, you'll notice NOLA prominently on display, and they might have you confused until you consider the name of this spot. Yep. It's NORTH of BOURBON STREET! How fun! The service is attentive and informed. There are so many great items to choose from here that this really came in clutch. The menu has NOLA and southern classics done in an elevated, yet traditional fashion, which fits perfectly here. Our server accurately and passionately described the dishes and helped me make a great choice in the country ham and cheese sandwich with a cup of gumbo and side of turnip hash. If you've never had REAL country ham, think of it as the prosciutto of America. These hams are hung and aged throughout the south, and each location gives them a unique character and flavor. This paired up so well with the slightly sweet and buttery bread, and the aged Gruyère cheese. I opted for the patty melt plus up, and this became a southern bacon cheeseburger of sorts, but I wouldn't advise going this route because the patty took away from the sandwich in my opinion. This was the only place our server led me wrong with her descriptions. When I asked for my burger medium rare she said they couldn't do temp because these were thin smash burger style. That turned out not to be accurate and I had a good sized well done burger on my sandwich, and it really did detract from the elegant simplicity of the sandwich. The turnip hash was a great side and totally unexpected. Baby turnips were halved and sautéed in butter and chunks of bacon, greens still on top. When I heard hash I expected small pieces honestly, but I wasn't mad about this one. Oh and the gumbo with potato salad? Yes. You read that right. I'd never have imagined it but it worked really well. The mayo smoothed out the richness of the gumbo and cooled it off perfectly in the season. All in all a fabulous lunch! OH! Don't skip the potato wedges!

Yelp
They weren't busy at all, and we're here during happy hours. What an amazing atmosphere! The booths are in giant Bourbon barrel's, and then one wall is a, it looks like a wall of bourbon. Very Kentucky I'm guessing. They have very fun serving vessels and glasses. It's like they have old Timey bourbon bottles without labels to serve things like water, and the beverage cups, not the water cups, or shaped almost like 90% of a soda can, except made out of glass. It's a fun effect. It's not a huge place, it's like a neighborhood secret almost. It could almost be your grandma's restaurant. But only if your grandma was a really good cook and loved bourbon. They seated us immediately, they are kid friendly. We got some of their root beer on tap, and it is phenomenal. I could win friends and influence people with the root beer alone. They strongly recommend Boudin balls and catfish nuggets. I also ordered some charcuterie and some potato wedges with jalapeño dukes mayo. They brought out boiled peanuts as a "lagniappe". I don't know what that is, but the boiled peanuts were pretty good. I've never had them before. They were warm and spicy. They were soft but had a little bit of an al dente, a little bit of a bite. They don't taste like normal peanuts, they tasted and felt a bit more like a cooked water chestnut. Very savory. It was almost like it wasn't peanuts, but I can clearly see it is. It was amazing. The Boudin balls come with this white sauce that is like a delicious horseradish mayo. I've never had anything like it, but they do it very well. They have it garnished with diced scallions and house pickles. Their food is truly amazing. The catfish was warm, well seasoned, exactly right cooked. The charcuterie could've used more bread, and that's nearly the opposite complaint when would ever expect. It had so much of the stuff that you put on top that you could meet her on any one of them and do well. How sweet apple butter. Pecans, housemaid spicy mustard, delicious. The service is exceptional. They are courteous, attentive, and Quick. They know their menu very well. This place alone makes me wish I lived in Kentucky. This is a very nice little place. For dessert we ordered their cheesecake, which is housemaid as well. We also ordered A different dessert, Cala, is a west African desert dish. The cheesecake was very well done. It had a good balance between the flavor of the cheesecake and the fruit, not an overwhelming amount on either of those. The cheesecake itself was very rich. It's one of the better cheesecakes I've ever eaten. I have never tasted anything like tthat Cala. It's sweet potato, I can't recognize the spices but they are delicious. Normally I can recognize all the spices. I taste a little bit like pumpkin, like somebody wave a container of pumpkin spice over it. It has a very light custard cream sauce. My youngest says "it's supa gweat". Next one up says "I give the cheesecake 20 stars", and that's out of five so it's pretty darn good. My second oldest says "the food is some of the best food I've ever tasted, and just because of that food I want to move to Kentucky now". My oldest says " The cheesecake is amazing", emphasis on is.

Yelp
We visited based on a recommendation from a bartender across town. She was correct this place is great. It started with our sever Jack who was passionate about his job, the food, and the bourbon. Great recommendations. The food and drink were great. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun. A great place for a drink and good food. The restaurant isn't huge but plenty of room. Only request is that Phil allows a little flexibility in his flight ;). Definitely ask for Jack as your server.

Yelp
My husband & I ate here a year ago, & loved the food; couldn't wait to go back. We went last night with a client & were disappointed in the food & the noise level. The service was great, but we were seated in a corner near the door & could hardly hear each other. Would not recommend NoB for a quiet evening! I had the ceviche, which was good enough, but not great. I'd have preferred something else, but am allergic to garlic & onion. The waitress was kind enough to check with the kitchen, & told me that was my only choice. It was ok. My husband ordered an Asian steak dish which he said he'd give a 4 out of 5. His collards were disappointing. I'd try someplace new the next time we're in town looking for a nice meal.

Yelp
Fantastic service, amazing food, great whiskey selection, decent prices for the most part. I had what I can only describe as the second best pork chop of my life. The vibe is chill but I was at the bar. You probably want a reservation!

Yelp
Great place. Make a reservation to get a table. Only a few spots but make sure you give fair notice if you have to change your plans

Yelp
We've been looking for a good Cajan food place and I think we found it. They have a nice varied menu with most of our favorite dishes featured. just wish it was closer to home. They have a wonderful fully stocked bar with all the very favorite bourbons.
