The Best Bars In Midtown

"Down the stairs at the 50th Street station, Nothing Really Matters is open for business, despite what its blacked-out windows might suggest. This speakeasy-ish spot is a more relaxed alternative to the pubs and hotel lounges in the area, and it's always a good time with $19 drinks and plenty of '90s hip hop and R&B hits like “Feel Me Flow” and “No Diggity.”" - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, will hartman, sonal shah, tiffany yannetta

See No Evil Pizza Opens in a Midtown Subway Station - Eater NY

"Set in a former Duane Reade storage area attached to the 50th Street 1 train stop, the cocktail bar Nothing Really Matters comes from Adrien Gallo who found the oddball space before the pandemic shutdowns." - Emma Orlow

The 13 Best Speakeasies And Hidden Bars In NYC

"In this city, we have multiples of everything, including subway speakeasies. Unlike La Noxe, Nothing Really Matters—which is located in the downtown 1 train station at 50th street—leans into its grimy, underground setting, with neon lighting and exposed pipes on the ceiling. The next time you’re in Midtown and need a spot that feels a little edgier than the bar at the Hilton Garden Inn, stop by and enjoy a ‘90s hip hop playlist while you drink a Disco Inferno with mezcal and yellow Chartreuse. " - bryan kim, sonal shah

Where To Grab Drinks When You Want To Make It Clear It's Not A Date

"This is another one for when friend-zoning requires a conversation. When you’re letting someone down gently, it’s important to be kind, communicative, and firm. But after that, it might be time to flee. Conversation has lulled, and you’re both looking around for a piece of wall to stare at. If you think this is a possibility, meet up at Nothing Really Matters. It’s a bar under a subway station, which makes it easy for you to get out of there as soon as you finish your cocktail. The name of this bar will send a nihilistic message, sure, but hopefully that message is also helpful and liberating." - neha talreja

Nothing Really Matters - Review - Times Square - New York - The Infatuation

"When you go down the stairs at the downtown 1 subway station at 50th Street, you’ll see a section of blacked-out windows to your right. The space looks like it’s in need of a new tenant, but the bar inside, Nothing Really Matters, is very much open. Despite its nihilistic name, you'll have a good time at this speakeasy-ish spot. It consists of one big room with a long wooden bar and a semi-private nook, and, with its exposed pipes and metal grates hanging from the ceiling, you can tell this place is really leaning into the subway theme. Expect plenty of '90s hip hop and R&B like “Feel Me Flow” and “No Diggity” when you stop by. Nothing Really Matters feels more like a downtown bar than a Midtown watering hole, so it’s a great alternative to all the pubs and hotel lounges in the area. All the cocktails cost $18, and there are also several low ABV and mocktail options. Be sure to check out the bathroom for your daily affirmation (see photo above). This sign should be mandated by the city to be in every bathroom right next to the “Employees Must Wash Hands” sign." - Kenny Yang

Don’t be deterred by the loud music and its location inside a subway station! The two cocktails we tried were just what we were looking for (not too sweet, seamless blend of flavors). This is definitely one of the better cocktail bars in nyc based on taste alone.

During our recent visit to your establishment to celebrate my fiancé's birthday, we encountered issues with the service provided by your bartender. As individuals with over a decade of experience in the hospitality industry, specifically in cocktail preparation and bar management, we were disappointed by the incorrect execution of our cocktail orders. The initial Lemon Drop Martini was not prepared correctly, lacking the necessary preparation. Upon returning it, I requested a Herradura Margarita, assuming it would be a straightforward drink to make. However, the bartender still managed to make an error by using house tequila and serving it in an inappropriate cup. This prompted me to return the drink as well., and a different male bartender with dread locks executed it and delivered. The correct glass is used as seen with the lime. Furthermore, we found it unprofessional that the female bartender engaged in back-to-back conversations about customers with her colleague, expressing complaints about us in the process. Regrettably, these experiences have left us with a negative impression of your establishment, and we will not be returning in the future.

Chanel was beyond hospitable, even on a packed evening. She helped us pick out the perfect cocktails and made sure our preferences were met regardless of liquor base. Probably one of the best bartenders in a while and most certainly the best in this area.

Perfect balance of authentically gritty but unpretentiously classy drink menu. Incredible service. We were the oldest people in the bar by far and ALL of the staff were super cool—treated us like family even though we were obviously tourists. Even the whole DJ posse… incredibly cool guys and playlist—PA was thumping hard and sounded great without somehow being overly harsh. Got hugs from everyone on the way out. Unbelievable experience. Bar staff in Austin should take notes on how to create repeat customers. Southern hospitality is dead. These folks put NYC on top.

Went here after work one Saturday night and the vibe was great! Love the music and atmosphere! We had about 4 drinks and they were delicious. Shoutout to the bartender with the dreads! He was jamming and serving great service.

Upon being invited to meet at a bar, I had anticipated a typical experience characterized by noise, rowdiness, and a lack of friendliness. However, Nothing Really Matters exceeded my expectations. Upon entering, we were informed that the bar was busy but that we were welcome to join. As soon as we did, the bartenders promptly acknowledged us and inquired about our preferences, as I am not a drinker. To my surprise, they offered to create a custom drink for me (thanks Sky). The ambiance was exceptional, with the music playing being both impressive and surprisingly not overly loud. This allowed me to engage in conversation with the person I had met and thoroughly enjoyed my time. I returned the following week, and to my delight, they remembered me and were already preparing my drink. They maintained the same friendly and attentive demeanor as my first visit. I highly recommend this establishment to all my friends and family. And the pizza from See No Evil next door was the cherry on top, it was truly remarkable. The staff’s exceptional service from the general manager Ronnie who greets me with a hug every time, to my favorite bartender Sky who is always upbeat and friendly, and Cyllan who also has exceptional customer service has cemented my loyalty as a customer for life!!! Love this place!!

Upon my initial visit to this establishment, I observed a high level of patronage. Despite the busy atmosphere, the staff greeted me warmly and courteously, informing me that the establishment was experiencing a surge in customers. They kindly suggested that I consider sitting at the bar, which I did. At the bar, the bartenders promptly engaged me in conversation and demonstrated exceptional friendliness, even amidst the chaotic ambiance. As a New Yorker who has resided in the city for my entire life, I can confidently assert that this establishment stands out as one of the finest bars in New York City. During my subsequent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the staff remembered me at the bar and promptly prepared my preferred drink. This familiarity has since made this bar my sole destination for alcoholic beverages. The hospitality provided by the staff is unparalleled, and I enthusiastically recommend this establishment to my friends and family. In addition to the bar, I must mention the See No Evil restaurant, which is also highly regarded for its exceptional pizza. The staff at both establishments is exceptional and consistently provides exceptional service.

This bar is conveniently situated at the entrance of the subway station, nestled underground. They boast a diverse menu featuring both classic cocktails and inventive creations. I savored the delightful flavors of the Clover Club, and the Obsessed cocktail was equally impressive. Upon arrival, the bar area filled up quickly, attesting to its popularity, yet alternative seating options were readily available. They offer the convenience of reservations, guaranteeing you a spot even during peak hours. Plus, they accept credit cards for added convenience.
