"San Diego’s premier all-vegan Japanese restaurant recently added ramen to the repertoire. The house made veggie broth come floating with wakame, bok choy, bamboo shoots, onion, and tempura mushroom over kale noodles. A crisp crumble of impossible meat finishes each bowl. As an added perk, proceeds from the restaurant fund the No Worries Movement animal sanctuary currently in progress." - Kelly Bone

"NoW Sushi, San Diego’s first vegan sushi bar, will land on Mission Boulevard this March. Partners Monica Berki and Lindsi DeMik also own NoW Cafe, a vegan sandwich and smoothie spot nearby. The eateries are named for their non profit, NoWorriesMovement, which supports animal welfare and is building its own animal sanctuary; proceeds from both restaurants will go to benefit the organization. Berki says she’s a big fan of Kensho Sushi, which opened last summer in Orange County and has garnered rave reviews for its all-vegan sushi menu. She approached Kensho’s owners to buy their recipes, which will now be featured at NoW Sushi, and tells Eater that she hopes to turn the concept into a multi-unit franchise. Signature specialty rolls include the Sweet P with sweet potato tempura, a Caterpillar roll made with shiitake mushroom “eel”, and a crunchy California roll made with mock crab. Berki says there will also be appetizers and some new dishes highlighting the meat-free Impossible burger; beer, wine, and sake will also be offered. NoW Sushi’s 1,000-square-foot space is currently being remodeled, and will feature a chef-staffed sushi bar and a patio." - Candice Woo

A great cause for veganism but truly way too much rice! I'm okay with spending extra money on vegan sushi but for how much rice compared to other ingredients was not worth the price to me which was about $17 per roll. Could use a better variety of sauces on the rolls. But still tasty and great service!

This place is fire!!!! I was never a sushi kind of gal but this Sushi is AWESOME and the best part, it's vegan. I took my family on a Sunday. It's a little busy and a little wait but sooooooo worth it! This is my favorite sushi spot. Customer service is great too. Also all the rolls are named after the rescue animals. I can go on and on.....

Creative and fantastic. Wonderful mission and even better execution, some of the best sushi rolls I have had vegan or not. Enjoyed their Barbosa and Sunny Fire. An excellent pairing that was filling and delicious, as was their seaweed salad - a must visit in San Diego.

We visited as a party of 3 and got the garlic eddie-mame and tempura basket for starters, and the Saving Nemo and Rocky rolls along with two bottles of Nigori sake. It was the perfect amount to create content bellies and smiling faces. Everything was delicious! I appreciated the server's knowledge of the food and the company's mission to improve animal welfare and reduce animal cruelty across the world.

It is really hard to tell from the 2 food menus, but we asked the waitress to explain to us - now MOST the menu is vegan but they have a page that is real raw fish (sashimi, rolls. Etc) which is “made in a separate kitchen.” It would be really helpful for vegans if the fake fish items were labeled as such on the menu because they are spelled normally with no quotation marks/labels so we still questioned what was real or imitation, or vegan (“imitation crab’ usually spelled Krab on menus, for example is still a fish product so sushi is tricky). I understand a lot of the confusion that other reviews mention but this is fixable with menu edits! The shishito peppers were delicious! Presentation is very nice. There was a huge cockroach on the floor but I do see them in this neighborhood.

NoW sushi just opened on Friday 03/08 and I went on Saturday to check it out + taste their food. I was expecting a huge crowd but it was pretty empty when we arrived (5:30pm). Cute small sushi restaurant right next to another popular vegan restaurant Soulshine, nice location but very limited street parking, best to park in PB and walk. Ordered miso soup to start and unfortunately it was barely warm when it arrived and got cold pretty quick, disappointing. We ordered two rolls Saving Nemo and Annie, both super delicious and food came out pretty fast. I recommend trying this restaurant and sticking to just the sushi rolls. Keep in mind it's pretty pricey and does get expensive fast. I hope they add more vegetable inspired rolls (like eggplant) in the future instead of just mock versions of traditional/popular rolls.

Sushi here was incredible. Friendly staff. I went to Beyond Sushi in NYC 2 years ago and have wished for a place that had that same quality here in San Diego and NoW reaches that high bar. Only downside is parking is a lottery. Thankfully if you so have to walk a mile the Boardwalk is lovely and you have Bird scooters everywhere!

I really enjoyed this vegan sushi place (this is vegan, even if the website or menu doesn't explicitly say so). Great tempura, and all the sushi we tried tasted amazing, with very interesting flavors. Good presentation and service as well.
