Do yourself a favor and order nigiri at this place!
One of the best I’ve tasted in Denver. Better than Sushi Den and as good as Temaki Den for a lower price.
We tried several different nigiri—bluefin toro, maguro, hamachi, albacore, red snapper, engawa, hotate, surf clam, and unagi, some of which were seared. They were all fantastic. The seafood ingredients were high quality, prepared well, and had a nice weight to them, which was well balanced by the rice. Wasabi wasn’t placed between the ingredients and the rice but was offered on the side of the plate. Instead, they had their own pepper-based salsa on top of some of them. I personally prefer the authentic style of having wasabi inside, but this is sort of the standard way here in Denver.
Karaage was okay, however. A bit of ginger and some more soy sauce in the marinade (or simply marinating a bit more) would definitely enhance the flavors. A slightly thicker starch on the fried skin would also give a more satisfying chewy bite to the crust. The miso soup was also okay, a bit on the saltier side. It could have a little less sodium but a deeper dashi base.
Most people seemed to order rolls from the happy hour menu, which doesn’t include nigiri. I’m very glad that we ordered off the regular menu instead.
The atmosphere was good enough. The service was attentive.
