The 24 Best Restaurants in Tulum, Mexico | Eater

"After a remodel and several chef turnovers, Nü Tulum continues its commitment to an experience that has earned the restaurant several accolades. The foundation is cooking sustainably with fruits and vegetables sourced from fair-trade farm Mestiza de Indias, fish and prawns from a local fisherman, and local meats and poultry from La Tiendita in Playa del Carmen. The result is a modern Caribbean menu at a romantic candlelit restaurant shrouded in greenery. Order a glass of Mexico-made Lágrimas San Vicente Verdejo to enjoy with a tart, nuanced kanpachi ceviche in a green apple leche de tigre, or start with wood-fired Campeche prawns in a spicy Tajín bearnaise. The marriage of Caribbean Sea and Mayan jungle sets the tone for main dishes like a roasted catch of the day, served atop creamed cassava in a pool of salsa of dried chilies, garnished with fried cassava strips." - Bill Esparza

NÜ Tulum

"Although the outdoor jungle-chic setting here fits right in with the numerous restaurants of this heavily trafficked strip, the cooking offers plenty of personality to set it apart from the pack. Chef Luis Aguilar has composed a menu that utilizes a plethora of local ingredients (many from Mestiza de Indias, a regenerative farm in the Yucatan Peninsula), blending tradition with novelty for memorable results. Vegetables play a key role, whether in meat-free dishes like an “agrodolce” of sweet potato and squash enriched with peanuts or in more substantial items like xcatic chiles filled with boudin blanc. A delicious finale of barbecued pineapple and almond cake boasts an elegant simplicity." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent sophisticated meal. Very good food, with good vegetarian options too. Good service, friendly and efficient. The only criticism we had was that the food was served a little too quickly. We could easily have spent more time here, the setting is lovely. I had the roasted carrots and the broken beet. My husband had the hamachi tiradito and the black cod. Everything is cooked to perfection. It's a bit more expensive here, but you get what you pay for.

Google
Great food executed very well. The fish dishes are the way to go. The timings of the kitchen are on par as the food was perfect even with a full restaurant. As with everything else in Tulum I just feel it just lacks some personality to set it apart.

Google
Towering trees and vibrant, lush greenery envelope the restaurant, creating an ambiance that feels effortlessly serene and calming. Plants seem to cascade from every corner with the distant sounds of the jungle in the background, while flickering candlelight spans across rustic wooden tables. Even on a humid evening, the vibe is light and upbeat—everyone seems to be in a good mood. It’s hard not to. You'll even notice tables of strangers exchanging knowing glances, united in the realization that they've stumbled upon something memorable. The service matches the setting, elegant without pretension. The chargrilled carrot with a smoky char, lounging adjacent to a pool of lemongrass aioli that cuts through the char’s richness while the garlic vinaigrette provides a punchy kick. The sweet potato agrodolce followed—a combination of sweet potato, local squash, wild ginger, peanuts, with every element working in tandem. The caribbean cabbage, fermented with cuban mojo and served with macadamia nut cream and farofa, could convert any cabbage skeptic. It was a standout in flavor but also a feast for the eyes, offering a creamy textural contrast. The la cabaña quail, bathed in mole negro, was a delicate, gamey bird packed with bold, earthy flavors. For seafood lovers, the caribbean fresh fish is a must-try. It arrived proudly wearing its crown of crispy yuca chips while the creamed yuca underneath was so smooth and comforting. The vascal sauce brought it all together with dry chili heat that lingered for a few seconds. Don’t miss the octopus—it’s tender, flavorful, with just the right amount of chew. A perfect appetizer or shared dish. For dessert, the barbecued pineapple I was unsure on but I quickly relished in my decision after the first bite. Paired with almond cake, whipped cream, and caramelized white chocolate, it leaves a sweet, lasting impression. Lastly, let’s not overlook the cocktails—truly A-plus all around, exactly what you need on a sultry evening. Refreshing, inventive, and perfectly boozy. Since I was in Mexico, it only felt right to indulge in mezcal and tequila. NÜ Tulum is the kind of place that reminds you why we travel for food—not just to eat, but to immerse ourselves in an experience connected to its surroundings—where everything kind of feels like a small celebration of the senses.

We held our wedding here at Nu with the help of Destination Weddings Tulum and it was absolutely incredible! It honestly exceeded our expectations. The venue is stunning - it’s outdoor, but covered and lush with plenty of room for guests & gorgeous in its design. The staff was also incredible. They were so attentive and totally on their game. The food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! All of our guests raved about it. They hand carved a fresh sea bass - caught just that day - right at each table. Everything was served family-style which we loved, with plenty of sides for everyone. The short rib was also incredible and we are still thinking about it! The bartenders are all professional mixologists, and the drinks could not have been better. Our wedding was held in the upstairs area where everyone could watch sunset during our ceremony. We would recommend this experience to anyone! We honestly had the best wedding experience and will remember it forever. Thank you to everyone at Nu for making our day so special!

The food at our dining experience was simply phenomenal, leaving us in a state of bliss with each delicious dish. Our waiter, Eduardo, provided exceptional service by expertly presenting the menu and recommending the most exquisite tequila we've ever sampled. It was an all-around beautiful experience that exceeded our expectations.

Google
This was our favorite meal in Tulum (which is saying a lot). We had drinks at the bar before dinner. Attentive staff and superb, creative cocktails. Easily shareable starters and mains. Waiter was very knowledgeable — perfect service throughout the meal. Don’t miss the cabbage or the cornish. Loved the atmosphere — tables were spread out, not too loud, not too hot. Can’t wait to go back.

We made a reservation prior at Nü for our first night in Tulum. Ambience is 10/10. Food is great too. We especially enjoyed the sweet potatoes salad and oyster mushroom tempura. Very flavourful and never tried anything like this elsewhere. Definitely a must try. Our waiter Luis is very attentive and explained the menu very well. Would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for an exceptional dining experience in Tulum.

Nu was a nice place to try. If you decide to go there and you’re driving, Nu does offer free valet. It was not made aware to us when we went so no need to look around for parking when you arrive. The ambiance was very beautiful filled with beautiful trees. We did have a new waiter- nice person but I do feel the restaurant needed to train their staff better on the dishes and what all are in them. It’s hard to get a recommendation from them when the waiter themselves didn’t know how to describe what was on the menu or what some of the ingredients were. The cocktails were good but I felt that something was missing from the cocktails. The mezcal drink was pretty generic but the sake cocktail was good. Food overall was good. We ordered the charred/roasted carrots- which were good but felt that it still needed something to upscale its personality. We also ordered the short ribs which my husband said were ok but the seabass was the highlight of the menu. Clean, simple and delicious. Overall I thought the place was good but not amazing. It is a bit overpriced which most of Tulum especially in that hotel zone area but I do see Nu having a lot of potential.

Yelp
A wonderful culinary adventure in the jungle. They have a cocktail with pickled guava. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I haven't. It was as good as everything else on the menu. Supremely inventive and incredibly delicious. Service was prompt and helpful without being overbearing and the entire dining room, bar, and lounge in the back was just lovely.

Yelp
We were staying at the Nomade resort and wanted to try something offsite for dinner that was walkable (if you don't know, taxis in Tulum are UNBEARABLY expensive, as is parking IF parking is even available). We made a reservation but I'm sure depending on the season you can also just walk-in. The restaurant itself was very vibey - lit candles on tables and walls have it beautifully lit, fresh simple flowers on the tables. Really nice. The menu is not extensive and a good mix of seafood, beef, and vegetarian options. The drink menu is also curated nicely. We had a wonderful waiter who spoke perfect English (which is great because I speak toddler level Spanish). We had two daily specials - a ceviche appetizer and catch of the day. We also had the beef short ribs. For drinks, I had the weekly special, a rum punch, and my husband had the whiskey drink. Everything came out super quickly, was explained in detail tableside and it was all delicious. The ceviche appetizer had a wonderful Serrano oil - the catch of the day had awesome, crispy/salty yuka chips and a deep, rich chipotle sauce and the short ribs were fall off the bone tender. Overall, it was a great spot. We thoroughly enjoyed the vibe and meal. And it cost us the SAME as a taxi did to and from a cenote we visited earlier in the day ($150 usd). Definitely check this place out if you're near the beach and looking for a delicious meal with local, fresh food.

Ambiance was festive and sleek, food was thoughtfully prepared and delicious, service was prompt, informed, friendly, and professional. Would absolutely recommend.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Gorgeous interior with a huge wall covered in vibrant green foliage. Live music. MUST GET: Quail with mole: we were warned that the portion is small but the taste is right on point. Best dish on the menu that we tried. Expertly cooked bird with crispy exterior and moist interior. Excellent flavor for the quail and mole negro. Fresh caribbean fish - unique flavors. Like the tender fish and crunchy chip juxtaposition. SOLID: ice cream - they threw in a crunchy cookie and grilled raspberry which made this delicious. Kale salad AVOID: Oyster mushroom - probably the worst dish that I encountered in Tulum. I was expecting japanese style mushroom tempura and instead got heavy battered exterior, enclosing chewy and bland oyster mushrooms. Apple/pear dessert -( forgot which fruit it was). But this needed a bit of tart to go with the cooked fruit to make the dish more structured and nuanced. Chez panisse in Berkeley conjures up a fabulous version of apple tart that every restaurant should aspire to.

Yelp
We hosted our wedding weekend at Nest, NÜ, and Radhoo and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Our guests were treated like royalty which added to our special events. Every guest we spoke to was so impressed and loved every minute of staying at their Namron hotels (Nest, Radhoo, La Valise, and Xela). Our welcome party was a Nest which was the perfect first venue for us. Being on the beach with the breeze, the gorgeous jungle walkway to the space, the simple elegance of the space, the playlist and service was impeccable. We had an open bar and asked the staff to have welcome margaritas and they delivered. No one had an empty glass and we really appreciate that! The 2 hours flew by and we wish we would have done it for a little longer. It was wonderful to have all our loved ones at Nest and the staff made it even more special. The next day we had our wedding at NÜ and we were nervous and also excited. We were unable to come down early for a tasting but quickly realized that we didn't need to! The food was incredible. We are big foodies and we wanted everyone to have a culinary experience at our wedding. Our guests were extremely impressed and raved about the steak, Caribbean whole fish and the mashed potatoes!!! It was a 9 course meal and we were all full after! The drinks were amazing, they made our signature cocktail dreams come true with a French 75, Mai tai, and watermelon margaritas. Every step of the way Fernanda and Nathalie were so great at making sure all our guests who had allergies were taken care of. It was so great to just sit back and enjoy our wedding while the team handled everything perfectly. The next day we hosted a recovery pool day at Radhoo (which we heard is an exception but we had our guests fully booked out Radhoo so that helped) and people say this was one of their favorite days! It was relaxed, the bartenders were keeping our drinks full and the food was so good! Perfect place to be hungover. Have your wedding at the Namron Properties! You will not regret it.

Yelp
This is my recent addition to my list of Tulum beach restaurants, and I had a phenomenal experience. The waiter told me to mention his name in a review, at this point I cannot remember it but he was excellent. They took care to be careful of my food allergies, and the waiter explained everything and where it came from and how it was made, something I really appreciate. We tried so many types of fantastic mezcal here, it really made our night. We had mushroom tempura and chorizo spiced cauliflower. Everything was super delicious, flavorful, and filling. The ambiance and vibe was excellent, your typical dark tulum vibe with lots of candles and a tropical atmosphere. You really feel the vibe of the jungle here. For an absolute dining experience, come here.

Yelp
The food here was excellent. Definitely felt Like eating at a Michelin star restaurant. The food here was contemporary Mexican food. Started off with a chip & pumpkin seed salsa. It was definitely very different but the flavors were very creative & delicious. They had a habanero oil that added a nice kick. All the dishes presented were so different but opens up your palette to different taste, textures, & aromas. I would highly suggest ordering the grilled oysters, roasted cauliflower, pork belly tacos ,duck in black mole , and oven soccarat. All the dishes presented were phenomenal and loved the romantic ambiance. Had an amazing dinner.

Yelp
We dined on 23 March 2025 and overall place is mediocre in and of itself, and definitely in comparison either an out of this world dining experience a night before in Arca. Firstly when we asked to be seated in an adjacent table, the host provided very intelligent reply that the table is set for a group 4 people and ours for 3 people. Needless to say the table for 4 remained empty the entire evening, Grilled carrots were uninspiring which you can easily broil in your one oven. Cevice was outstanding with tangy citrus flavor and very fresh fish. Grilled octopus was ok, but ribeye steak was chewy. Prawns were outstanding and grilled to perfection but were covered with heavy salty overpowering sauce. Grilled pineapple was usual but Cheese baklava was amazing. Overall does not warrant hype or price. Do not miss Arca that is pricier but will not stop to surprise you with unusual flavors and uncompromising quality executed to perfection.

Yelp
Had an amazing dinner at Nu !! Staff was very attentive and helpful with my gluten and dairy allergies. Cocktails were delightful ! Food was delicious and the ambience was awesome!!

Yelp
I made reservations here to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary and it couldn't have been more perfect. The ambiance, service and food were amazing!! I ordered the sea bass with roasted carrots and both were delicious.

Yelp
Nü was probably my favorite restaurant in Tulum! Food, drinks, ambiance, music, and service were all AMAZING. The open kitchen gave the restaurant a nice flair. Didn't see that in the other restaurants I went to in Tulum. Each dish was well thought out and this restaurant truly cares about gastronomy. Such a beautiful experience.

Yelp
The food here was ok! A little pricey for the portion and what you get but still doable! It is nice for what you can get in tulum but nothing exciting. The best part about this restaurant is the ambience

Yelp
A product of Namron Hospitality Group, the name behind Nest and other upscale properties in Tulum, NÜ opened in 2018 with Mexico City Chef Cesar Castañeda at the helm and has continued to forge a path in the same light as ARCA and Hartwood. Another jungle space along Tulum's popular beachfront drive, equally open as ARCA with candles, natural wood and copal, it is once greeted by a pair of hostesses that guests are seated, humidity partially abated by fans plus Cocktails focused on indigenous Spirits plus refreshing elements. Fusing Mayan heritage with Modern Mexican Cooking, both prices and patrons akin to other upscale Restaurants in Quintana Roo, most meals will begin with subtly sweet Bread from a Wood-burning oven, its Butter accented by Vanilla while traditional Vegetable Dip develops slowly with earth and smoke on the palate. Embedded in lush greenery, with music lightly playing, Appetizers on this night consisted of smooth Guacamole with tiny bits of Octopus and a bit too much Mint served alongside Vegan Ceviche offering a diversity of textures amidst bright acidity. Less finessed than ARCA, but not quite so rustic as what Chef Eric Werner created at Hartwood, Chiles stuffed with Pork arrived next to be eaten as Tacos, the Coriander again a bit heavy-handed while Duck beneath crispy Skin was near-perfect at the center of spicy Mole and Sesame Seeds. Sold on Rockfish by a server's description, medium-firm Flesh flaking delicately into an aromatic pool of Onions, Dessert proves less impressive than what one might expect of a Chef trained by Dulce Patria's Martha Ortiz, the crispy Crepe well-executed but Kiwi and Bitter Chocolate getting lost amidst richer-than-usual Edam.

Yelp
Love the ambiance and being surrounded by trees. It is a bit further down the Tulum Beach and away from the major popular areas but definitely worth checking out. Since it's so further out, it was not crowded compared to the heart of Tulum Beach. The served us some chips with dip. Love the dip with the pumpkin seeds in. It is Smokey with a bit of a kick. The other sauces were great too. I ordered the beef stew for my main. The outside part of the meat was crispy and inside super tender, juicy and flavorful. It also had the carrot soup around where you dip the meat in. They also plated some carrots and sundries tomatoes underneath, which all paired beautifully with the beef. The green ceviche was amazing! It had sliced cucumbers on top and they added a bit of vinegar in the ceviche which enhanced the citrus flavor of the ceviche. The guacamole was also delicious. Served with fried octopus tentacle. They also serve you a side of chips to share. For dessert, I got the Marquesita, it was like a rolled cannoli but filled with cheese foam, on a bed of fresh kiwis and chocolate. Seriously outta this world, you can get the crunch of the rolled shell and the sweet and salty from the cheese foam and kiwi and chocolate. Such an interesting dessert. The server also gave my friend a free aperol spritz as a birthday drink and a free birthday cake. They sure know how to provide a great service!

Yelp
Food was delicious friendly staff. Also if you stay at La Vilas you get 10% off. The ambiance is beautiful Tulum is a very beautiful town. I will be back there this summer.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance, decor, and food. However the lighting is too romantic when the staff needs to shine a flashlight to see your food or menu. The drinks are a spin on classics and some creatives. I tried the old west fashioned. I would recommend the bread that comes with the spread (warm, crispy on the outside and soft in middle). It's worth the calories! The mole on the duck was a nice twist. I don't think the fried corn balls added anything.
google avatar

Tiffany G.

Yelp
Nu is really far down the strip, but we thought it was worth the trek. The service is great and they give you free wifi to makeup for the spotty reception. We got the tuna tartare, burnt rice, tacos, and the duck mole. The tartare was really light and refreshing, the burnt rice was super rich, and the tacos were just really flavorful. I thought the duck mole was ok...a little chewy... nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Gil H.

Yelp
NU went from one of the best restaurants in tulum to one of the worst. Not the same chef, not the same menu, they only kept the name, I hate leaving negative reviews but this is like a catfish.

Yelp
SO happy we got to try this place for my birthday dinner. What a wonderful spot. Outdoors with a chill, beautiful vibe. Romantic setting. It was the perfect spot to enjoy the Tulum breeze and delicious food. Our server was excellent and started us off with drinks and fresh baked bread with 3 delicious spreads to choose from. I had the Naked & Fabulous which I really liked. We ordered the Octopus and the Fish in lemongrass broth. Both were exquisite. The fish just melts in your mouth and the broth with potato gave it the best flavor and texture. The octopus had this amazing spice, I just wish it had been a bit more tender. Then for dessert they surprised me with the marquesita even though we ordered the tres leches cake and I devoured the marquesita. It was so good. Also enjoyed the tres leches. All in all a fantastic experience. Would love to return the next time in Tulum.

Yelp
We were just in Tulum for the holidays and stayed at Radhoo right next door to NÜ Tulum. After hearing rave reviews we knew we decided to save it for our last night and spoiler alert...it was THE best decision we made! First, the location is toward the South Beach Zone of Tulum, about a 10-15 minute walk from the main strip. The restaurant is large, outdoor space that's well spread out and has canopies to shield you from the rain (rare feature for Tulum fine dining). Its very romantic with beautiful decor but not at all stuffy. There were people dressed up and others in much more casual attire, much like any restaurant in Tulum. The menu here, while minimalist, upon first glance felt overwhelming with a small selection and VERY unique menu options. After speaking with our waiter we felt an immediate trust and had a feeling we would like anything that came out of that kitchen and our instincts were spot on! Our cocktails came first and they were incredible. My husband raved about the OLD WEST (bourbon duck fat wash, sotol, vanilla syrup, cacao bitter) and as a passion fruit lover I couldn't get enough of the PASSION TROPICAL. We both ended up with 3 by the end of the night! What we also noticed is that whether it was the heat or just watered down liquor, it wasn't easy to get a bus anywhere we had cocktails on this trip but these were strong and delicious! For our meal we ordered SWEET POTATO AGRODOLCE (fresh, asian fusion flavors), LOCAL FISH CRUDO (so good and the most unique version of a crude or ceviche type dish that we had on this trip), LA CABAÑA QUAIL (THE BEST MOLE we've ever had and the delicate quail was wood-grilled, perfectly crisp, and tender), CARIBBEAN FRESH FISH (so fresh, tender and flaky, and perfectly complimented by the creamed yuca), BOUDIN BLANC OF LOCAL PORK (we weren't sure what to expect from this but it's a simple pork sausage dish that is delicate, cooked to perfection, with a hint of spice from the Xcatic chili). For dessert there are 2 options and we went with both! The BARBECUED PINEAPPLE and SEASONAL ICE CREAM w/ crushed sablé were the perfect finish to our evening at NÜ! This is not a restaurant to bring your kids too but that aside, the menu is much more accessible than we expected and I think just about anyone would enjoy their meal here. Definitely worth the trek if you're staying up North or in the town Centro and by far our best meal in Tulum (and we went to all the good ones from ARCA and Hartwood to Kitchen Table and Treehouse). Can't recommend NÜ enough!!

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The food had so much thought and creativity with also such great service. Our server spoke excellent English and Spanish and described the beauty of the dishes very articulately. This food is one of those gastronomic experiences where one must be open to the creativity of the chef because these guys have been studying their craft and have done heavy work to get the dish and all the flavors to you. Delicious and I can't wait to one day go back

Yelp
NU is really out there. I mean, no, really, take a screenshot of the map before you go out there (if you walk) because you will probably lose cell service partway down and then start to wonder if you passed it. We had to stop at the Greek restaurant and ask for directions (the girl had no idea which restaurant it was, but she was kind enough to look it up on Google Maps). We got there a little earlier than our reservation (Sunday evening) but they seated us immediately (it was about 50% full). I've noticed that they do like to blow some sort of smoke/incense around the restaurant, so be prepared to go home smelling a little like smoke. To eat, we ordered the tuna tartare, soccarat, duck mole and pork belly tacos. The tuna tartare was delicious, the fish was incredibly fresh and had fantastic flavor. The duck mole was interesting.. I'm probably just not a huge fan of mole since it's on the sweeter side, and the duck was cooked medium rare (I've never had duck medium rare but I trust them?). The pork belly tacos were tender and flavorful, different than I had anticipated (not your typical preparation of pork belly but more similar to barbacoa in texture. The soccarat was my personal favorite, it came with some aioli which we mixed in with the rest of the rice. They told us that soccarat is the style of cooking, it's basically a garlic rice that's burnt (in a good way) on the bottom (similar to bibimbap if you've had that) in sort of a smaller cast iron paella-type pan. I think I was just craving rice after eating traditional Mexican food for almost 3 weeks but man, this was tasty. All in all, the service was good, not amazing but pretty solid. The food was well worth the trip and came out incredibly fast. This place is worth a stop, just probably drive or take a taxi down here since it's pretty far from the rest of the restaurants/hotels.

Yelp
This restaurant is fairly new to the tulum strip. It's Yucatan cuisine is pretty well talked about. The food was good, a bit overwhelming in terms of saltiness on some dishes and completely lacking in other. We ordered: Beef carpaccio tuna ceviche tamale tacos rice fish of the day Vibe was beautiful but I just think the flavor balance was off on a lot of the dishes.

Yelp
I've never left a 1 star review for a business until this one... check my profile. I've only left 5 star reviews. Poor service and food was meh. The chips with our guacamole were stale so we asked the waiter if they could bring new chips. They took our plate away and never returned it. Very poor service we had to keep asking for more water. Entrees were like small appetizers. The incense was too strong and smoky. Overpriced for what it was.. left hungry. The plate to food ratio was so off they smeared sauce to make it look like a lot of food. They were very slow and inattentive -- we even had to hunt down our waiter just to pay the bill. I recommend La Zebra for a better experience, service and food. Picture below of the octopus as an entree... not enough food for the price.

Yelp
When you visit Tulum and better yet stay in Encantada hote, NU restaurant visit is a must!! Chef Cesar Castenada was elected one of the best Mexico`s chefs under age of 30. His culinary experience acquired through one of the best restaurants in the country is clearly visible in his perception of food. The ambiance of NU is awesome, you can feel connection with a jungle, an open kitchen disperse the flavors of food, lights and burned copal make a great visual effect on the whole place. All the people working there from hosts, through servers and whole team are fantastic, you can definitely feel that you are in the right culinary place, well taken care of. Nu menu is definitely contemporary and you can expect nice and yet surprising twists on the dishes you order. We had fish tartare with coconut ice cream that blew us away and we will remember it for a long time. We also tried their octopus and whole grilled fish prepared by one of the NU chefs Rafa who absolutely knows the connection between food and natural fire. Team of NU is passionate about their food, choose their ingredients carefully and you can experience that at that place. Their menu changes based on season and products but I am pretty sure that chef Castenada artistic approach to gastronomy will make every dish incredible. They offer great selection of fabulous drinks, mezcal and tequilla. We even took a shot on a dessert ( to be honest we are not big fans of sweets, I know it may sound strange :))) Chocolate Tart and it was beyond delicious, made with local dark chocolate and avocado was a very interesting and yet not to sweet was a great supplement of our evening. Tulum has a huge restaurant scene to choose from but make sure you check the NU, I assure you your journey will be a one to remember.

Yelp
The avocado roll was wonderful. The music and ambience were great as well. The cocktails were just ok, nothing wow. The rest was very disappointing, especially after all the hype. The server was clueless about the menu and didn't know to sell/explain the dishes. Duck mole - the protein was too chewy, the chocolate mole was too thick which was more of purée than a sauce. Only the plate up of the dish was good. It was missing some texture and different element of excitement. The ceviche was horrible, didn't taste fresh at all. I would not try it again.

Yelp
This restaurant was not on my to try list but I'm so glad we ended up going. Probably the best meal Of our trip. The restaurant has great sexy vibes and service was good. The food is outstanding and super fresh! Highly recommend the clams ceviche- Best dish I had all trip!

Yelp
It's fine, but not amazing. Food lacks flavor, the dessert menu is not memorable or enticing and the service is always slow. Only thing we loved was the guacamole with pulpo and the pork belly tacos. Disappointed in everything else we tried. Only cocktail we liked was somehow called a Mexican porn star. ‍

Yelp
We have dined in many Tulum restaurants over the last few years and rarely have been as disappointed in an establishment as we were with this one, especially based on the Yelp reviews this restaurant received. The service was slow, the lighting was not just low, but so dark we couldn't see the food and, really, seeing is part of the experience and the sensation of enjoying a meal. Every dish we sampled was fine, but not exceptional, and many, such as the tartar were average. The pork belly tacos were quite good, however. Also, the portions were small and my son's scallops and shrimp entree ridiculously small. After our meal we went in search for more food and found our second meal much more satisfying than the first at Nu Tulum. Just disappointing for our entire party of 8.

Yelp
AMAZING! Seriously please just go the food is to die for! We arrived in Tulum travel stained and tired and had one of the best meals we have had all year here. Traditional regional ingredients and techniques combined with sophisticated modern ideas. Everything was incredible however the ceviche and the octopus dishes were our favorites. We are all chefs who work in food television in the states and our minds were blown. Please go!

Yelp
nü can easily be a michelin star restaurant due to the gastronomic intricacies and presentation! this was our hotel's restaurant that is "off-property" just (literally) across the street. though the restaurant is not beach-front but the setting was still really well thought-out, complete with a bar, lounge area in the front, and plenty of tables for a long sit-down dinner. great "indoor outdoor" feel. we had dinner both nights in tulum, and both were excellent! every dish we tried were extremely memorable. my appetizer favorites were the tamal colado, which was presented in the form of tamales, and marinated mushrooms, which was presented in the form of gratin. my main favorites were the fish of the day, which was accompanied by yummy potato foam, and the wood oven baked rice, which was crispy and flavorful. service can be a bit slow at times because they are running pretty lean in the table-waiting front. but the kitchen is extremely staffed, so you never have to wait long for food! and every dish is timed extremely well, great transition from appetizers to main. if you're staying at la valise you can charge your bill to the room :) and they accept credit card, which many restaurants don't!

Yelp
We've followed this owner from her beginnings in Tulum. Her pastries, sandwiches and the products she sells are superb. Her husband and partner opened this seafood restaurant next to her umbrella-covered gourmet cafe that never disappoints. The restaurant is on a quiet street and tastefully designed. Last year we had lovely dinner there. However, this year the owners were on holiday and our dinner was not up to par. We told our server that the grilled octopus was chewy and undercooked. He truly wasn't interested in our comments. We were shocked ! He didn't offer us something else and didn't allow any credit on our bill. I don't like writing this but don't know how to reach the owners. This was not s usual occurrence and we want people to dine in both places, We've been coming to Tulum for years and love to support and recommend unusual and carefully run businesses. This was a fluke but the server should have had better training and been more responsive to our unhappiness. Hopefully next year it will be better.

Yelp
I found everything at this restaurant, from the service to the atmosphere to the food and even the main course they accidentally brought us that we didn't order, to be excellent. The one time I went it was an excellent experience, no question.

Yelp
Portions were small.. they take FOREVER. I mean literally forever 2 hours +.. definitely not worth it in any sort of way. Small portions, long wait, overpriced, and on top of that the food wasn't good..

Yelp
Very very good food! The guacamole with fried octopus is a must try! AND if you are an oyster fan their grilled oyster appetizer is to die for!! It reminded me of Oysters Rockefeller but with a twist. Loved it!!

Yelp
Fabulous!!!! a combination of local flavor and ingredient influences with classical cooking techniques to create something unique and very special. Wonderful service all round and a beautiful setting. Didn't have cocktails but they looked excellent! Might have to go back for the Chile tacos for a snack...

Yelp
Beautiful new restaurant on the Hotel strip of Tulum. Every dish we ordered had impeccable presentation and exquisite Yuctan flavors. Service was also amazing and our group of 7 really enjoyed this dining experience. Overall, the vibe is chill and romantic. While there isn't a shortage on great fine dining in Tulum, be sure to make it out to NU!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've ever had! Every dish we ordered was delicious (and we pretty much ordered everything on the menu). My favorite apps: pork belly tacos, shrimp and passionfruit aguachile. We also had the arrachera and tamal which everyone loved as well. For main courses, my family had the shrimp and scallops (we asked for the scallops cooked as they come raw), beef stew, duck and black mole and octopus. I had the fish of the day which was amazing (and I'm not a big fish eater). You can even see Chef Cesar on the line cooking and serving food at the table. ** he was named one of the best chefs under 30. A little pricey but worth the money for the food, ambience and service!

Yelp
Nü is a bit hard to find, dark and dreamy, it is directly across the road from Encantado and La Valise near the bio reserve. Lit entirely by candlelight and with an open kitchen, the vibe is magical. Have an exotic concoction from the bar to start, we had the naked and famous and the punch punch... so much skill and precision went into making our cocktails. I was impressed. When we were seated at our table the first thing I noticed was the warmth and knowledge of our server. We had been traveling throughout the Yucatan Peninsula for two weeks, visiting the not so touristy places... so we were used to a down to earth, warm and friendly feel from the restaurants and hotels we went to. Tulum is not necessarily warm and fuzzy. It tends to lean more to the cool vibe in my opinion. Nü was like visiting friends or family that happen to own the best restaurant in town. We ordered the mackerel carpaccio to start which was huge (as were all of the dishes) and completely delicious. A plate full of thinly sliced mackerel topped with dollops of grapefruit purée and passion fruit sorbet... the flavors were perfect together and we sopped up every last drop with the fresh housemade bread. Our next plates were the octopus with peanut sauce and the crispy black rice which is doused in mushroom, chaya and garlic and topped with an almond aoili and pea tendrils. Pure bliss. Every bite induced fits of joy!! The only dish I could've done differently was dessert. We chose the marquesita since we were on a sort of marquesita crawl throughout the Yucatan Peninsula... and we were eager to see how the chefs could elevate a 35 peso street food that is perfect and a work of art on its own to a 210 peso restaurant dessert. When the dish arrived we were told that the chef had forgotten to add kiwi to the plate... no rushing back to make it right... just an observation by our server. Right there we should have said "go back and tell him to put it on!!" But not thinking we accepted the dish. It totally lacked an element to heighten the dish.. it needed that kiwi or passion fruit or some citrus/sweet something. It needed a drop or two of cajeta or lechera... it was fine, but next time I'd choose a different dessert and stick to the beautiful marquesitas they make from bicycle carts on the street. Word. Overall I don't think you can find a better fine dining restaurant in Tulum. This is a first class experience Tulum style. Oh and there are cute kitties roaming the outdoor dining room. Love that!!

Yelp
Not worth the price. Portions were very small and the service was poor. Our full group left feeling disappointed and still a little hungry.

Yelp
Loved everything about this restaurant! Decided to come here for my birthday and it was absolutely the best. The ambience is very relaxing, beautiful outdoor space and amazing food. It was a bit quiet but we also came in around 10 pm. Food was amazing and the drinks were outstanding. This is perfect for a date night or special occasion.

Yelp
This. Is. The. Spot. Went here on my birthday and it did not disappoint. That rice!!!' Omg. Get the rice! We also had the daily catch (red snapper) and pork belly taco which were equally delicious. The desert was a corn dish that had an incredibly tasty corn ice cream. Also my wife befriended the local cat that lounged about during our meal and made us feel like we were at home. This was for sure an elevated dining experience. We will definitely be returning!

Yelp
The setting and ambiance are beautiful but it's so dark you can t see the food or the menu. I recommend bringing a head lamp. The food is eclectic. Portions small. The shrimp appetizer is raw , which I get it, it's a fancy restaurant , but it wasn't stated as such in the menu. The duck in Mole. The mole was great. Tortillas amazing. Maybe the best ever. But the duck was tough and chewy. The waiter disappeared a lot. And forgot to bring my beer and my wife's glass of wine. Cool concept. Just we've had much better food in Tulum so far.

Yelp
We had a great server Marco - he was very friendly, enthusiastic, warm, and made us feel welcome for our first night in Tulum. You can feel the love the staff puts in their food - they have a great sense of teamwork and professionalism. The food is amazing, unique, and feels like you're in an episode of Chef Table while you're there. Can't wait to go back!!!

Yelp
Without a doubt the most special dining experience of our 5 day trip (and we returned to Gitano twice because of the cilantro cocktail and tuna tostadas). Nü has a beautiful, short little chef-driven menu and exceptionally skilled service staff to deliver it. From the hostess to our server to the chef to the grilled shrimp to the huitlacoche sauce to dessert -- while I wish on one had we had discovered it all sooner, I'm glad to be left wanting more/another visit. Didn't take many photos because I was to consumed with the experience!

Yelp
Excellent pulpo (octopus). It was grilled perfectly, soft and moist on the inside with enough char and crunch on the outside. They make their own sourdough bread, which is up there with any of the sourdoughs I get in San Francisco. Vibe was great and good for dates. Fish of the day was just ok.
