Octopus Garden Bar - Review - Hollywood - Miami - The Infatuation

"This dive bar is on the main drag of Hollywood Blvd. and kind of feels like an abandoned pirate-themed amusement park ride. The inside is covered in pirate flags, and there’s an animatronic pirate skeleton who watches over the narrow bar while slowly turning a wooden steering wheel. You’ll appreciate it all if you’re a lover of dive bars, or if you’re just really intoPirates of the Caribbean. Either way, it’s a good spot to people-watch, have a cigarette (which you can do inside), and drink reasonably priced beer." - Ryan Pfeffer

Seven of Chicago’s Best Underground Dining Clubs Uncovered | Eater Chicago

"Started by the founders of a group for unconventional diners who wanted to learn the ins and outs of planning immersive meals, this supper club features a rotating lineup of guest chefs and themed menus that have included dishes like Chinese smoky noodles with Shanxi-style flavors and chicken, and lamb chops with rosemary and a marble rye dressing from a holiday menu. The venue remains consistent but the exact location is shared with attendees the morning of their reservation—just enough time to pick up a bottle for occasional BYOB nights." - Eater

Google
I had a great time! I’d been there many years ago but went back recently for 1 ;) which turned into 5. Mark made our visit awesome. We sat on the outside bar, had great conversations with some locals, people watched and enjoyed ourselves. I’ll be back for all my Hollywood visits. This place is a breath of fresh air. Try the Peach Arizona Tea and top it off with a shot or two of the lemon flavored tea liquor

Octopus Garden Bar is hands down one of the best spots to enjoy a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere with great drinks and tasty food. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the lively yet cozy vibe — a perfect mix of fun and chill, ideal for catching up with friends or enjoying a casual night out. The cocktail menu is fantastic, featuring creative and well-crafted drinks that perfectly complement the menu offerings. I tried their signature octopus appetizer, which was tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. For my main course, the seafood paella was a standout — loaded with fresh, high-quality ingredients and bursting with rich, satisfying flavors. The staff at Octopus Garden Bar were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure every detail of my visit was enjoyable without being intrusive. The outdoor seating area adds a lovely touch, letting you soak in the fresh air while enjoying your meal and drinks. Overall, Octopus Garden Bar offers a memorable experience with delicious food, excellent drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this place is a must-visit!

The atmosphere is crazy 🤪. I love the pirate 🏴‍☠️ ship wreck look. The service is amazing and DJ Michel Attie on Fridays is total beat behind the decks. All I need after a long week of work 🙌🏽🐙🔥

I had some time to kill while waiting for my flight back to Boston and decided to check out the Octopus Garden. I love a good dive and this joint did not disappoint. I received amazing service from my bartender, Jolly, and loved the large selection of beers and liquor on offer. I will be coming back in the future, the decor and atmosphere were a 10/10, regulars were very friendly as well.

Made my 21st birthday so so special, everyone there was a vibe and so friendly will definitely be returning on my next trip to Hollywood

Google
Great place, great atmosphere, great music 🙌🎵 They don't serve food there, but there is food right on the boulevard.

Yelp
Love this place, old school dive bar, no frills, cheap drinks, great atmosphere every time.

Yelp
This bar has thrived for over 20 years. They serve beer and cocktails. Karaoke at least 4 nights a week. They used to have live bands; but the flow is karaoke now. Nice place to drink beer outside, the Floridian way. Aye, matey! Pirates always welcome here.

Yelp
Octopus Garden is the spot. Drinks that won't have you counting pennies and karaoke that's all about good times. The vibe's just right - chill enough to kick back but lively enough when you want to join in the fun. It's the kind of place where you end up staying longer than you planned because it's just that cool. Whether you're there to grab the mic or just chill with friends, you're guaranteed a solid night. Can't wait to head back!

Yelp
I love this place. It's the best dive bar in Hollywood! Jolly and Mac are great, never had anything less than an awesome time here!

Yelp
Very chill bar in downtown Hollywood where you can go as you are. No pretension, no bs. Bartender is friendly. Quick and prompt service. We enjoyed our drinks in the cozy bar area sat at one of the seated tables on the stage area. They have the whole pirate vibe going well for them combined with the fact I had the Ringo Starr song playing in my head from the Beatles' Abbey Road album. I applaud the greatness of this bar. The bar makes me feel like a winner. Like i am the life of the party. Praise Octopus Garden.

Idania L.

Yelp
... not recommended.. is not what it used to be.. lack of empathy and professionalism. If you looking to have a child night with your mate, stay away from this place.. not a nice place at all .

Yelp
I enjoyed the Octopus Garden. Twin Peaks is across the street. Take a dive down below the mountains to the Octopus.

Yelp
I visited this place at 2 PM to switch the singles I had for big bills. The waitress or hostess in the pink hair was sweet & warm. The man in the blonde hair with the hat (the owner I'm assuming) was looking at me with disgust, she told him that I wanted to switch the singles for big bills. He looked at me and said 'NO' as I'm walking out he tells the waitress 'You don't know where he got those singles from, you never know'. You piece of trash I've been in the neighborhood for 13 years, just because I don't look white that doesn't mean I'm a thief. When people told me the owner and the staff are racist I would argue, telling them they're wrong. Guess what, they were right and I was wrong. You racist scumbag.

Yelp
Great dive bar with actual atmosphere and decor. Several bartenders Mark does a great job

Yelp
Been coming to this bar for 8 years. It's a Florida local grunge bar. If you are asking for a wine list, take your firm to Ft Lauderdale. If you want real people, a shot and a pint, you have arrived!

Yelp
Big fan of hole in the wall bars, just not this one. It's so unfortunate when staff can't separate business and personal. My friends and I would have loved to spend loads of money here, but unfortunately the staff was so rude. We were kicked out upon complaining of poor service. Clearly something isn't right. Would have loved to stay and enjoy the night, but management had other plans :( I hope to go back and have a better experience.
google avatar

Butler S.

Yelp
Rudest owner/bartender I have ever met. I walk in to an empty bar sit at a high top because the bars are still closed I take off my mask after a minute of sitting by myself he walks over to me doesn't say hello or welcome he says "put your mask on" what an awful way to greet someone. He could have said hello welcome do you mind keeping your mask on until I get a drink for you. But that must be too hard. No worries Mickey Brines Irish Pub is right across the street and they have better liquor better staff and much better ownership. If you find yourself in Hollywood FL be sure to skip octopus garden and walk across the street to Mickey's Irish pub!! On a side note the waitress/part owner wasn't wearing a mask and the owner had on one of those clear face shields witch does absolutely nothing when it come to containing germs. What a joke this please is

Yelp
What do you do when you're having a night out, forget about the time, and your friend's car gets locked up in a valet lot? Well, after your friend calms down his frustration, you say "F'it" and keep the night going... That's exactly what we did. Out in Hollywood, we took out our Yelp App to see what was still open to turn this little "hiccup" into a thing of the past fast and allow us to keep having a fun night. We found several places, went in to some of them, and while walking around we come across The Octopus Bar. It's a Pirate Bar!!! (yes, that's exactly what I yelled, when I saw it) Of course we went in! Small, dark, divey. Pirate décor all over, including hats to take pictures with the ship's wheel at the end of the bar, complete with rum barrel and skeletons. Oh! and there's a pole too. :p You won't find Jack Sparrow here but you will definitely find the rum... Kraken is perfect for this bar's theme, advertised and served all around. The bar is fully stocked, with spirits and more pirate theme stuff, and some fun signs. The staff is "rough looking" as should be in a "pirate bar" but SO much fun and attentive. They were so much fun in pictures, encouraging us to do shots, dance, and talk with some of the people at the bar. They also take very good care of their customers, not only with drinks but, after an incident broke off on the street, they immediately closed their doors, advised the situation to everyone in, and asked us to please stay in until everything out was calm and under control. Still they managed to keep everyone's night going and fun, instead of having us be nervous about what was going on outside. Two incidents that could have cut our night short, or made it a "fail", but when you're with friends, and come across a place like this, there's no way your night will go wrong. Great end to our night, and one, I think, we'll never forget.

Christina S.

Yelp
Was very enjoyable besides the food was a bit overpriced for what it was. The server didn't seem to care about us at all.

Brittany W.

Yelp
If I could give negative start I would. The bartenders are absolute assholes to customers and they will kick you out if you don't tip them what they deem they deserve. DO NOT COME HERE
google avatar

Alejandro G.

Yelp
I was here just to sing karaoke in honor of my uncle who was part or the Miami Sound Machine. I was escorted out for no reason at all. I was not drunk or belligerent at all. I am never coming here again.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Octopus is always... Well the octopus. It really doesn't try to be anything else. I think that's why I like stopping into this towny bar of downtown Hollywood. I have come for years. It is a local hang out. Which is rough as far as the general demeanor of the joint but it sure keeps the damn tourists away. They do hard rock karaoke(and other karaoke but loud rock is the norm). There is a stripper pole placed in a odd spot in the middle of Octopus, yet it does get used now and then. Oh and there is outside seating so the general sidewalk traffic of walkers and tourists has to figure a way past average blue collar drinkers that hang out here. They have drink specials, people-friendly people and oddities that you can only find at a good local bar. Looking for a bar named after a Cephalopoda? Then this is the place!
google avatar

Alejandro D.

Yelp
This place has a very relax atmosphere if you looking for a good karaoke place to just let go. Sometimes it gets busy and you don't get to sing much.

Bryant V.

Yelp
Hollywood sure does have a reputation for having some strange characters, however my experience here was bizzare and unsettling to say the least. I came in, ordered a Heineken and left the waitress a generous tip. I was then approached by a stunning white woman who made out with me. However I was promptly interrupted by the manager A blonde white man, who was furious and kicked us out. When I asked why we were being kicked out, he said that the woman was 'way too drunk.' The manager then began to argue with the security guards who were also black. Considering I've been to this bar before with no issues, I could only assume that the manager had some sort of pent up racial resentment. I hope the guy gets some help, and i hope this place doesn't suffer because of it.
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
Not a bad place to hang out and have a couple of beers. I went with my friend one night to do karaoke. There was a pirate guy working the system and he told me that the song I picked was already done by someone else. Whatever, anyway I proceeded and picked a different song. When I got on stage and started to sing, I couldn't hear myself at all. Apparently, there is no monitor to hear yourself saying so, you just have to wing it and try your best and hope you sound good.

Yelp
Dive bars are great! Personally I enjoy the relaxing no nonsense, lack of dress code, and generally lite feel. Although today I was faced with three over 60 white males talking about "Jews" I actually was shocked. The bartender Mark shut it down; Although not until the man told me I should put balls in mouth instead of speak. I only write this because if you're Jewish and let's face it; South Florida has a large Jewish community. DON'T GO THERE!!! This write up is not about the bar which I enjoy. It's regarding the low class ignorance of the clientele. I asked the man what year he thought it was? I was flabbergasted by the statements. Again great bar! Although Floriduh...truly lives up to my play on the state's name. I constantly tell people it's full of Floridiots and again I was validated. It seems if we're not white god (moron) fearing "Trumpets" you're allowed to be shammed for color, religion, and apparently success! FYI all you Christ believers your religion stems from Judaism. This was a disturbing experience and I hope it's read to understand don't co-sign this behavior. I certainly won't!

Yelp
Great dive bar in the heart of Hollywood FL. Great people and great service! Especially on Steeler Sunday's when Jolly is working!

Yelp
Octopus's Garden clearly meets the definition of a street side dive bar/sports bar no matter any variances one may have to the definition. It's lousy except for the one redeeming feature that appeals to me, being that right there on the sidewalk is a bar counter; merely pull up a stool, sit down and enjoy a drink. Of course, having to listen to horse gravely bar room tenor voices other patrons ignorantly shouting at flat screens in stupid hopes of having a football referee change his call in a game being played in California tends to be somewhat of mind rattling annoyance, but I suppose such in life in the dive bar/sports bar setting. Drinks are generously poured by a half sloshed bartender who surprisingly seems to maintain a good degree of attention as to what he is doing in spite of being somewhat mind altered. As a tip, don't let anything, especially money, keys or a purse sit on the bar since the chances are nearly 100% that there is a needy street vagrant seated next to you or very nearby just waiting for the opportunity of helping himself/herself to anything available or within his or her reach.

Yelp
Chill dive bar. Walked up to it a few nights ago after months of trying to figure out what this giant octopus signed place was. It's your typical dive bar; all sorts of people, friendly bar tender, House and well drinks. There was a guy there (possibly the GM?) who started yelling at this homeless guy on the street (he hadn't walked in) and after five minutes went to go talk to him? But it was a very weird situation that everyone overheard. I like that there's outdoor table seating and the bar counter wraps around outside. The decor is awesome and definitely in keeping with the pirate theme.
google avatar

Yelp
My sister and I came out for a nice night out in downtown Hollywood. At the end of the night while waiting on our ride to get us we decided to sit in octopus bar and order two Cokes while watching the karaoke show . After paying and tipping for the sodas the other bartender came over and told us that if we are not buying alcohol we cannot sit at the bar. There was no one waiting for seats at all, but I think she was bothered by the fact I kept turning down free drinks from the guy sitting next to me, but I had already to much too drink that night plus he was super creepy .
google avatar

Yelp
After getting totally ripped off at the Irish place across the street, found this nice little place with $3 pints. Wish they had more on tap than the usual bud/bud light, but a $3 yuengling hit the spot.
google avatar

Phelicia L.

Yelp
Good drinks. Good music. Place needs some updating though.
google avatar

Happy Hadashi H.

Yelp
It's a shitty dive bar, I won't lie. But it's a Downtown Hollywood staple that all the locals know about. It's open from 7am - 4am every night. They have karaoke, poker night, open mic, pirate parties, as well as go-go dancers (NOT strippers). The bar tenders and owner know your name. Drinks are not weak and definitely a decent price. Shot specials, and they let you bring FOOD in from other places (NOT drinks). They have an outdoor area in the back. It's usually pretty dark in there, but it's ok, becasue they have a big window in the front. Great place. Rock'N'Roll bar. Biker bar. Dive bar.

Yelp
Disrespectful, misogynistic, and upcharging management! Not one to EVER give bad reviews, but Octopus Garden left a lot to be desired. Service is AWFUL. Drinks were overcharged and General Manager does not care to treat customers lawfully. I walked in with a group of girls, not rowdy, not drunk. We sat down, and ordered a drink. One of our girls ordered water, and although the bartender on the floor did not charge, the second bartender, who happened to be the General manager decided to charge for the TAP WATER. By LAW, if alcohol is served at any business, they HAVE to provide free drinking water. We asked if he was serious about the charge, considering it was tap water in a plastic cup, and he insisted. As one of out girls reluctantly gave him a 5 dollar bill, he threw a tantrum, and threw the dollar back in her face. He insulted the group, calling me a Motherfu**ing bi**h repeatedly, and kicked us out. Astounded, we walked out of the bar, and along with several other men who witnessed it, and decided it was uncalled for. That one single question, which was delivered in a casual, borderline friendly way, was received with yelling and cursing from the General Manager- MANAGEMENT. We walked off, and I returned a minute later to try and make peace with the man. We were not a problematic bunch. Rather than speaking to me or at the very least signaling to me to not come in, he put his hand on me, 120 lb small female, and yelled at the bouncer to throw me out and call the police. THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. HE CANNOT PUT HIS HANDS ON A WOMAN, regardless of WHAT HE THINKS is going to happen. I approached him calmly, which the BOUNCER AGREED on, and tried to establish some sort of dialogue, especially given the fact, that his aggressive behavior did not match the situation or the people he was interacting with. Upset that he laid his hands on me, I took his advice and went directly to the nearest cop. (They usually stand by their cars in Hollywood Beach in case fights break out.) Upon approaching the cops for advice, they went to talk to him. They were unable to do anything as it is a private business and the General Manager, apparently is entitled to behave as he pleases. THE POLICE apologized several times to try and make up for his ABSURD behavior, and followed it with, "Management does whatever they want here, It's a private business, I'm really sorry." My thoughts on this is simple. SPREAD THE WORD. TEACH THIS MAN THAT HE CANNOT TREAT, CHARGE, OR INSULT A CUSTOMER IN WHATEVER WAY HE WANTS. As a business owner, he should know better, and needs to understand that the nature of his business calls for respectable behavior since he interacts with people, especially inebriated people every day. He cannot do that to another person again. Please pay it forward, and do yourself and others a favor. DO NOT go in. Shady and unacceptable service, DO NOT RECOMMEND. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Yelp
The Octopus has a deplorable excess of personality! This place is the most random amount of fun you coukd ever hope to have and not necessarily with your clothes on.
google avatar

Derrick S.

Yelp
I like it fair enough. I was expecting the cost for beers atleast to be fair and other things decent but the half decent stuff the charge more than other place nearby. It is an entertaining round the way feel of a bar like a dive cheers and I like that all in all its cool. I MAY NOT SURE IF THEY OFFER FOOD it's a real bar.
google avatar

Christopher P.

Yelp
A dive bar at its finest...what I like most about this place is you will never know what will happen when you go here...the drinks are cheap...and you can sit out on the sidewalk bar on a hot day and have a cold one!
google avatar

MIchelle M.

Yelp
HORRIBLE bartender. Was there the other night, and some poor drunk guy came in, sure he was a bit too drunk, but the bartender had NO reason to treat him like that. HE went outside and knocked the guy on the floor. He was also very rude, and seemed drunk himself. Waited forever for our drinks.Place literally smelled like crap. They really should just close this place down, or hire bartenders who know how to handle drunks, without resorting to violence.
google avatar

Patrick G.

Yelp
Get over your pansy-ass thing for a "nice" bar and just admit you want to pack as much fun into however long you got can hold. Shut up and drink.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
This place is NOT closed as Yelp says and is awesome if you love a good dive bar with a great jukebox, friendly bartenders, good drink prices and karaoke nights!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Pirate Bar...Great local ambiance! Lots of microbrews in bottles and a great draft selection...juke box for songs...Open mic night every Thursday...
google avatar

Yelp
The bartender was harassing me for more tips even tho I was leaving him 3$ after every drink I bought. Then I asked for a cup of water and he refused to give it to me unless I tipped him for it. This all happened on 4/20 between 8-10pm
google avatar

Doris L.

Yelp
I agree with one Yelp review I just read: "What a perfect place to go when you are *^%#$I)- Faced at 2am." True. This tiny place used to have some character and an occasionally cool little live band action. The last time I passed by ,however, it had changed around a bit inside and an "only sounds good when you are drunk-DJ" was spinning some awful fake vinyl. Still- it is on the way to another bar- which is really what downtown Hollywood is fairly good at - so, add this to your list of joints to have one and keep on a crawling...
google avatar

Cristy T.

Yelp
I love this place! I come in often always greeted by the regulars, Big Mike at the bar, and a great big shot of Fireball or a good whiskey! I absolutely Love this place, yeah at first glance its looks like your average hole in the wall, but Just give it a chance!! It might not look like your type of place, but it definitely brings you around new faces, and everyone's got an interesting story. I've had some great nights here. Say hi to mark behind the bar! He's my favorite. Karaoke is always fun! But its only thursday-sunday.

Richard M.

Yelp
The bar is pool of bacteria that wil infect you. The bathrooms are not up to code they must of payed off the city inspector to let them keep doing what they are are doing. Electricity is all done with electricity cords that are all over the place. People spit everywhere on the floor . and the bartenders dont even say anything. Shit hole dont go there unless you want to catch something.
google avatar

Cris J.

Yelp
Your quintessential hole-in-the-wall dive bar! Don't expect bells and whistles. This place has a grunge mixed with rock and roll feel and it's good for a night of bar hoping or a quick drink. It's always full of regulars and the bartenders are down to earth and attentive.
google avatar

Darrell J.

Yelp
I went here on New Year's Eve and 3 of us arrived around 10:30PM. We went inside the narrow bar area, observed the 2-3 transgender or transvestites dancing around the pole mounted in the walkway, and promptly ordered tangaray & tonics, rum and cokes, and vodka sodas. The drinks were strong (sweet), not over priced (sweet), and we got a table outside where it was absolutely empty on New Year's Eve (double double sweet sweet). If you want a drink stop by, it's interesting, mingle, and move on.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Disgusting. Place was absolutely filthy and the bartender was very rude. Was unaware that when I entered at 4 pm that this place caters to chronic alcoholica. This is their clientele, and it is TRULY disgusting! DO NOT GO THERE. You will be sorry if you do!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Went there yesterday after a long day at the beach with my friend Maria, mark was our bartender and he was FREAKING AWESOME!!! it was our first time and we enjoyed it. A long time regular explain how the bar had been there for over 20 years. It has so much character and has an awesome vibe! Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Sin C.

Yelp
I went here last night and I actually really liked it. Yeah it's dark, tiny and the decor is not what most people would find appealing but I think that's what give this little place personality. The bartender who was probably a little wasted which is all good in my book because he was on top of everything, having fun with customers and super friendly lol we sat down and he was like I'm gonna make you guys something good came back with this super strong drink and said it was on the house (except the guy but obviously duh) which was pretty cool. They had live music which was awesome since they were actually good. Found a cool new spot just randomly walking around after leaving whiskey tango
