"If there’s one dish we want at the push of a button, it’s the tuna tartare at Októ, a Mediterranean restaurant in Montrose. The soft, fatty tuna paired with the floral, sweet shiro shoyu sauce tastes incredible—especially if you opt for the $10 bluefin tun update (you should). It’s a perfect balance of sweet and salty. You’ll also want to take a gallon of the shiro shoyu home to pour into one of those beer hats. You know, for when you need a hit of delicious tartare juice. "Named for both its Mediterranean roots (“okto” means “eight” in Greek) band its 888 Westheimer address, Okto brings the flair of Sof Hospitality to Montrose Collective. Chefs Yotam Dolev (Hamsa) and Hai Avnaim (Doris Metropolitan) team up on a menu of delectable bites such as crab squid ink linguini in a luscious sambal sauce. For lighter fare, think razor-thin tuna carpaccio, plump tiger shrimp with tarragon and thyme, or grilled hamachi perched atop an artichoke-pea risotto. A highlight of the newly-launched brunch service: a potato apple latke stacked with beet-cured lox and a confit egg yolk." - Brianna Griff
"One of Montrose Collective’s newer restaurants launched its Sunday brunch service in early April, offering contemporary Mediterranean dishes and cocktails best enjoyed on its see-and-be-seen patio. Make it a feast by filling the table with grilled sourdough topped with whipped lime ricotta and truffle honey, octopus carpaccio with a smoked paprika aioli and potato chips for added crunch, a schnitzel Caesar salad, and beet-cured lox layered on a potato-apple latke. Diners will also have access to some of Okto’s dinner favorites, including the rich crab squid ink linguini, the Frena, and the Greek salad. And, as every brunch menu should, Okto touts a burger. The Burger Au Poivre is topped with gorgonzola, gruyere, peppercorn sauce, and potato, with the option to add a fried egg, which pairs perfectly with one of its martinis. For parents or adults with kids in tow, fear not. Okto aims to make brunch a family affair with a simple children’s menu featuring pasta or schnitzel and fries." - Brittany Britto Garley
"The buzzing horseshoe bar at this new Montrose Collective Mediterranean restaurant is certainly glamorous, but there’s something about Októ’s patio that seems like its the prime dining spot for a late-night bite or cocktail. Not far from restaurants like Marmo, Uchi, and Graffiti Raw, Októ’s outdoor area sits at a location that’s close enough to people-watch at a distance with an olive martini in hand. The meal can also be as light or as heavy as you want, with refreshing crudo dishes, a squid ink crab linguine pasta with an added kick, and a stellar bread service. Heated lamps on the patio ensure you stay during the winter months." - Brittany Britto Garley
"Októ in Montrose is phenomenal. This Mediterranean restaurant is the blended progeny of the folks behind Doris Metropolitan, Hamsa, and Badolina. Dining here feels like sneaking into a trendy tropical plant shop after-hours, one that serves incredible food. On our first visit, we couldn’t stop ourselves from wiping the eggplant carpaccio plate clean. The tuna tartare makes us wish we could take it home in bulk, along with a gallon of the shiro shoyu that's poured on top tableside. And the pistachio-washed-bourbon Flight Of Icarus has us clamoring for permanent residence at the bar. Given every seat—including the patio—was full, everybody else seemed to feel the same way." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
