There has been lots of hype around this place, so we made some reservations for a party of four and headed over there on a Thursday night. I had never been to the Old Glory Distillery before, so I didn't really know what to expect. It's a very nice building with a really cool feel inside. I was surprised to find that, even with a reservation, we still had about a 15 minute wait and that there was no place to sit and wait while they got our table ready. I guess it's there way of 'forcing' you to walk around the gift shop...but oh well.
We were brought to our table, sorta centered in the thick of things, but it wasn't annoyingly loud nor did we feel crowded. It took, longer than I would think it should, for our server to visit the table and pour our waters (which I could do without because it's not good water).
Our server did explain to us that Old Glory is a scratch kitchen, which is really cool...because I don't think there's enough of them in Clarksville.
With our drink order, we ordered some appetizers: Duck Fat Fries and Prime Rib Egg Rolls. The wait for the apps was good, and certainly understandable that it was on the (slightly) longer side due to the scratch kitchen rule. Both appetizers were terrific! The fries were crispy and never got soggy (not sure if that's because we ate them too fast, but it's still true). The egg rolls could have used a little more meat in them because they were heavy on the cheese, but who doesn't like a cheese bomb laced with some tasty prime rib? I wasn't gonna pass them up.
I ordered the Bacon Burger with a side of the Bourbon Butter Mushrooms, my wife ordered the Oak Stave Smoked Brisket add fries/minus Charro Beans.
I really liked the burger, it was cooked just right and was juicy to the last bite. The bourbon bacon on top was a delicious addition to the burger and just added to the flavor. My picture doesn't really do it justice, guess I'll have to go back. I did NOT care for the Bourbon Butter Mushrooms...I was expecting larger button mushrooms or maybe even some baby bellas cut in quarters, but these did not taste like fresh mushrooms, which is a big disappointment from a scratch kitchen. I know you can't scratch make mushrooms (unless you grow them) but you can use larger fresh mushrooms to hold the flavor of the butter and the bourbon. Won't get them again unless they make that change.
My wife really liked her brisket...for a non-barbeque place, she said it was tasty. I stole a piece when she wasn't looking and it was good, not the best brisket I have ever had...but that's a tall order. My wife really like the slaw that came with the brisket, it was good, but different, but good. If that makes any sense.
The couple we went with ordered the Tennessee Pulled Pork Tacos and the BBQ Nachos Appetizer (with Pulled Pork) as a meal.
The one who ordered the Tennessee Pulled Pork Tacos really liked them, but he's kinda like Mikey...he'll eat anything. The one who ordered the BBQ Nachos with Pulled Pork was not happy with them. She said that the pork tasted pretty good, but overall it was a disappointment.
Overall, it was a good visit to the Old Glory Restaurant, we'll definitely be back for more. I just hope that it's as good as it is now (having just opened). Too many places in Clarksville lower their standards after about six months of being open. That's my truth and in today's world, you have to accept it.
If you're looking for something new and exciting, give it a shot! I, for one, hope they keep doing good things and maybe add some lamb to the menu (since it's hard to find in Clarksville). Again, make your reservations and head on over to Old Glory for some of the best eats I've had in Clarksville in a while!
