On the Grid : Old Oakland's Farmer's Market

"This weekly market draws a diverse range of regional farmers, retailers, bakers, brewers, etc. Stop by for lunch, some grocery shopping or to bask in the market’s good vibes. The market is situated between rows of historic buildings which lends an especially charming touch. If you do plan on taking some goodies home, don’t forget a bag! It’s California, after all. At least that means it’s open all year round too." - Pitch Interactive

San Francisco and the Bay Area’s 12 Best Farmers Markets | Eater

"With more than two decades of history, the Old Oakland Market in the city’s historic downtown is one of the best in the East Bay. You know you’ve landed in the right place when you’re alongside area chefs, many of whom shop the market in bulk. Bordering Oakland’s Chinatown, the market always has vegetables used in Chinese cuisine on offer, as well as orchard-fresh apples and stone fruit, and prepared foods ideal for a quick lunch." - Vox Creative

About a block and a half of produce vendors and a bit of food on a Friday. Fantastic

Google
This is a fantastic farmers market they have so many different booths set up for your farmers market needs. They have everything from flowers to flounders and fresh fruit and vegetables. They have a little bit of everything for everyone but they do ask that you please leave your dog at home. While I was there I saw a tent set up for people on S.S. and government assistance, they can buy 10 dollars in tokens and get 10 free. The only downside they only operate on Fridays. So come on down and have a great time.

Oakland Farmers Market is still one of the pleasures you can still enjoy today. Farm to the table come get your fresh vegetables and fruits. Favorite of ethnics foods and miscellaneous products. Such as honey soaps jewelry etc.

I love this farmer's market. The food, people, and location are great. The produce is very well priced and there are lots of different vendors there. It's located in a beautiful part of Oakland. Parking can be a little tough but there is enough street parking if you look for it.

I dont remember when was my last time to visit here, maybe years we came here around 8 so it is not too crowded but this time it was too crowded, I heard someone said so but we didn’t think that kind, it is bigger than farmer near my house they have all kinds of veggies, and organic, Asian vegetables, fruit, flowers, fish, egg...

This is definitely worth checking out. There are only a handful of tents to get food, so it's understandable if the lines are long, but the wait is worth it. Check out "Boffo Cart", dark brown tent halfway down the block between Washington and Clay. Their Chopped Pork is great! I've had it a few times by now. The pork is extremely flavorful and the bread isn't enough that'll put you in a food coma after lunch. The wait is very reasonable. The Muffaletta is good too. The produce around covers about 3-4 blocks. There are a few tents for florists, a couple for breads, live music at the intersection of Washington & 9th. Every farmer's market has kettle corn. You can get almonds/walnuts, spreads for breads, eggs, strawberries and other fruit.

Update: if you go even a little bit after opening the EBT line is very very long! Like 2 blocks and it moves at a snails pace compared to how long it takes the line to move at other markets. I didn't even use my EBT last time bc I would have been standing there waiting for an hour or more probably. Urban village, you can do better!! Just have one or two of the extra 4 people in your booth working on dispensing EBT. Good farmers market. I wish there was a high quality organic vegetable vendor there, who they have aren't quite as tasty as at other markets. The prices are good for the most part though. There are more Asian vegetable vendors there, but none are as tasty as the Asian veg vendor who is at grand lake FM. Far west fungi is there, they have the best mushrooms around, so that's great. And some of the fruit is well priced compared to other markets. The EBT line is long and very slow. Partly bc it's just very popular and a lot of people using it are elderly, partly bc the people dispensing it are slow, some slower than others bc they use a computer to log everything and some people take forever to type out a name. The only bread is sourdough..not my favorite.. they do have a few prepared food vendors if you're into that too. So, not the nicest FM with great vendors, but there are a couple gems in there plus I appreciate the lower prices.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in years, but after going to the Farmer's Market on Grand Ave. two weeks in a row, I decided it's time to check out another. Located in Old Oakland near restaurants it's convenient to do some shopping and grab a quick bite. There were also some Restaurants featured this past Friday too, like one of my faves, Cholita Linda. Buuut, today I came for the produce. I've been looking for seeded watermelon in a half-assed way, and still no luck even at the farmer's markets. On the other hand, I can count on finding the stone fruit I need in season. I grabbed a bag of Rainer cherries, and about three pounds of apricots and nectarines. While walking towards the end of the market there was an older gentleman passing out mulberries as samples. I've never had a juicier berry. I immediately grabbed a box. 1 for $8, 2 for $15. They're in season from mid-June through August. Some listed benefits of this berry include being a good source of iron and vitamin C among other benefits. Being I've never tried em before and the farmers market was held right in the middle of the month I feel I lucked up. I didn't see these at the other farmers market the previous week, but that may be due to timing. In all I left with mulberries, apricots, nectarines, and raspberries. I have plenty of vegetables at home so there was no need to shop for them here, but in the future we will. I saw daikon and a bunch of other fresh vegetables. The goal personally is to get our nutrients directly from our food and not a capsule (vitamins) if we don't have to. Truthfully I do not know what to do with the purple bell peppers, but they were so pretty I had to flick a pic and look up recipes to know what I'm doing.

Yelp
Love this farmers market! Nice area, local shopping, located right in front of Swans Market. Came to get my bath off fresh granola from Way to life foods... best ever! Also i was hungry and Cholita Linda was the next booth over. Bought a fish taco ,a tofu taco and two fresh juices: mango- passion fruit and strawberry-lime. Both fresh and amazing

Yelp
Always a pleasure coming to Oakland's Farmers Market. My first time this season. The newest and most interesting booth was the mulberry booth. Sweet mulberries grown in Brentwood for the first time in market. Yummmm. Always love to see what's in season. Come support local and our farmers on Fridays!

Yelp
The place is big. Got here in the early morning as some stands were still in the process of setting g up. The place has a nice vibe and atmosphere. Nice architecture around and on a bright sunny day you can enjoy the shade caused by the buildings having a pleasant experience. It's around two blocks going from east to west and a block or two north to south. There was a lot of vendors with fruits, vegetables, and the alike. Not many food or unique local dishes. Yet again, I was there a bit too early. Vendors are always nice and willing to offer to try their merchandise. Need flowers, there's plenty for yourself or loved ones for a nice dinner or lunch. Easily accessible with 12th street/Oakland City Centre BART station and AC Transit 6,12,18,19,20,51A, 72, 72M, 72R, 96 come easily around then surrounding area. Always love the great deals of fresh berries, any colour or mix and match.

Yelp
It's really a blessing that Oakland offers dozens of farmers' markets weekly, isn't it? After all, I've been to the expansive ones at Grand Lake and Jack London Square several times because they fit neatly into my otherwise mundane weekend activities. However, going to a farmers' market on a Friday morning actually requires pre-planning for me, something at which I just don't excel. I know the Old Oakland market has been around for at least a quarter century, but it has eluded me simply because Friday mornings are usually not a convenient time for me to peruse produce. It's the time I dedicate to lallygagging before the weekend. My loss because it's a good one. That might be because it felt more like a low-key street festival than a pure farmers' market. It's due to the more intense urban vibe, the appearance of live music acts, and the proximity to Swan's Market and other established eateries and stores that meld into the overall experience. The food kiosks are comparable with the other major farmers' markets, so expect a lot of diverse palates being targeted here. Including mine. BTW Chinatown is just across Broadway, so you can continue your produce shopping over there. It's just that Friday mornings don't work well as well for me as the weekends. Know what I'm saying'? Yelp
I love Farmers' Markets-they are just the best. The Old Oakland Farmer's Market is also organized by UVFM. I enjoy going to their other locations, such as Willow Glen or Campbell. This one is open on Fridays from 8AM-2PM. We typically stop by 12PM-1PM during our lunch break. There are a lot of farmers' selling greens, vegetables, and fruits. I am never disappointed. There are also homemade healthcare items like lip balm, lotions, etc., as well as local honey. At the farther end (away from Broadway), there are stalls for ordering food. They sometimes change, but mostly are the same few shops. I enjoyed trying all of them-the baos, sandwiches, tamales, macarons. I have yet to try the Viet place because the lines are always too long and we are on limited time. I have also not tried the rotisserie chicken at the very end. I super recommend checking this out!

Yelp
Love the Old Oakland Framers Market which filled with cultures and diversities. Rain or shine, not even the pandemic would stop the liveliness of the framers market; although is not as busy as the pre-covid time, but it is still business as usual with modification to meet the social distancing and masks required. The market is the home of various local vendors from organic vegetables, herbs, home grown local honey, food vendors and of course the kettle corn station. It is a must to go there early if you want to grab some fresh veggie and herbs. By 11am most goodies of fresh vegetables and fruits are almost gone. For the lunch pleasers to avoid waiting in the long line, be there before noon. My favorite vendors are the kettle corns and honey, but there are plenty of food vendors and fresh selections of greens for everyone.

Yelp
Always a nice variety of vendors and great food. I appreciate how there's a small area to have lunch with tables on Washington Ave.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite farmers markets. I try to come to this farmers market whenever I'm off on Fridays or I come super early in the morning. They have fresh produce for reasonable prices and many booths with a variety of fruits and vegetables to choose from. There are also baked goods, flowers, cheese, eggs, mushrooms, and a few food booths. Due of Covid, everyone must be wearing a mask and some booths have caution tape surrounding it to avoid customers touching all the produce. It looks rather empty in my photos but there were actually a lot of people grocery shopping in the morning. Definitely check it out and support your local farmers!

Yelp
What a surprise! I was in town for business and decided to spend the morning exploring the area around my hotel. Immediately across the street was this delightful farmers market. Fresh produce, eggs, pastries, jewelry and bath goods line 9th street and one cross street west of Broadway. There were sitting tables, a gentleman teaching people how to make paper lanterns, macaron and Mediterranean food vendors, sugar cane, citrus nuts, and tons of greens. Everything looked amazing. Most vendors had signs showing where in the state they came from and if they were organic. I was pleased to find so many great farms from my part of the state representing. If you are in town when the market is open, bring a bag and an appetite and stop by. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Almost every Friday, Urban Village hosts a local farmer's market event in downtown Old Oakland! You'll easily spot this place, as the event closes down three blocks of its main streets just for their vendors and guests. Look forward to everything organic, homegrown, homemade and handcrafted here at the Urban Village Farmers' Markets! Great community of vendors that provide such an assortment of foods, organic crops, products and floral decor. Coming from the perspective of both a participating vendor and a visitor, I can tell you that (almost) every Friday is something new. And be sure to get there bright an early! Vendors start to get there at 6AM, even while they're unpacking, you have people already lined up ready to purchase. It's a great feeling to see people eager to help small and local businesses. Half the time you're there, people are just striking up conversation left to right. If you're free a Friday morning, you should definitely take a stroll; at least four blocks of Broadway Street are closed off!

Yelp
Good for Oakland for hosting a hippie/hipster farmer's market! What better way to fight San Francisco's ominous shadow?! Kill 'em with veggies! Oh Oakland, I think you are cool anyway. Farmer's market was fine, nothing mindblowing. However, I did visit a local business while there and bought a cool hand-crafted bottle opener for $12. I suppose y'all wanna see? I liked the vibe...all good! 4.20 stars

Yelp
The Old Oakland farmer's market is currently my favorite Bay Area farmer's market. This is because it's HUGE, has produce and prepared food and conveniently located. It's packed so be prepared for crowds and bring your reusable bag for your goodies. The produce is fresh, juicy and reasonably priced. I haven't tried haggling over the posted price, not sure that's a thing here. The kettle corn, bread and Cholita Linda stall are amazing. I recently picked up a baguette for wine tasting and it was a hit. Support local merchants and shop the farmer's market! I look forward to checking out the jewelry merchant's wares during a future visit.

Yelp
good selection of produce that is in season.

Yelp
While I wish I could stop by this farmers' market more often it's kinda of hard to since I don't live in the area and it's on Fridays (rarely off fridays and Saturdays). Overall, it's like most of markets but this one is slightly bigger from my opinion. I like the live music in the center area of the market. The vendors are sort of vast, but since we are dealing with local produce/products, they more or less sell what's within season so they can be a few vendors with similar or the same produce. Beyond that, in the back area of sorts they have the food stalls which always smells good and tempting to eat most of it lol. Also to note, that they usually have a few crafts vendors here too like someone selling some jewelry or knitted clothing or accessories. Anyways, it's always a nice place to buy some stuff or just browse around.

Yelp
Great Farmers Market within walking distance from anywhere in Downtown Oakland. All the vendors are super friendly and glad you're there. My favorite is the fresh greens vendor, great quality and selection Don't forget to pick up some fresh flowers , they usually last the whole week until it's time to buy more. Small market but a lot of bang for your your buck.

Yelp
Love this place!! Fresh veggies and fruits, and LOVE the fresh oysters! Just too bad it's on Friday's, so I can only go when I take a day off from my regular work week! Definitely go back whenever I can!

Yelp
StumbLed upon this gem randomLy and mom's eyes QuickLy Lit up. She Loves herseLf a good farmers market. ApparentLy, this is onLy offered every Friday. Too bad for us, we got there kind of Late so a few of the stands were aLready cLosed and a few of them were in the middLe of doing so. On the opposite end of the farmers market, they have vendors seLLing ready to eat goodies. From what I seen, this is a good pLace to grab some Lunch or even a Light snack to keep you going. Yelp
Strolling around this market on Fridays was one of my favorite activities to look forward to after a long week of work. Anyone who works in Downtown Oakland should stop by at least once for lunch! There is seating spread among the carts and booths, or if you just want to grab fruits and veggies for a weekend meal, this is a great pit stop before you head home. One time I found a stall that sold all sorts of peaches, plums, and pluots for $1.50/lb **drool** It's also a wonderful way to meet with friends, or serendipitously run into old friends and share a meal. Watch out for the lunch rush around the hour, so try going around 11:30 or 1:00. The vendors are friendly and offer a great spread: cheesecake, Cholita Linda (those frescas on a summer day... what could be better?!), spring rolls, kettle corn, Reem's, tamales, you name it. One of the better farmer's markets I've been to and in a great location!

Yelp
One of the best Farmer Markets I have seen! I was staying at the hotel just across the street and going to get fresh fruits from the Chinatown daily. I was really excited when the Market opened on Friday. Pros: - Lots of fruits and vegetables!!! - Great prices - Taste the fruit before you buy - Located right next to Bart (metro) and Chinatown Cons: - Cash only (but most Markets only take cash) - Not a big variety of fruits. Mostly peaches, nectarines, plums, and tomatoes. We got full bag of peaches and plums. - Berries are expensive (raspberries, strawberries and also figs) - Closes pretty early at 2pm.

Yelp
Oh I just love this Farmer's Market! Not only does it have a wonderful array of fresh fruits and vegetables locally grown, it has quite a selection of fun, foodie, and whole-in-the-wall eateries nearby. Be sure to check out the bustling food court in Swan's market complex (entries both on 9th and Washington streets). Swan's merits its own yelp review, which I will do soon. The vibe here is eclectic and multicultural. It is quite a large farmer's market taking up at least four streets in a cross shape. The block on 9th St. between Washington and Clay streets has all the food vendors with lines that can go down the entire block during lunch time! It seems all the nearby working people and convention attendees at the nearby Oakland Convention Center come here during their lunch hour which is why the lines can get so long between 12:00-1:00, so it's best to avoid getting lunch during this time if your schedule permits. The vendor in the purple tent selling Asian fusion wraps was definitely the most popular, with the line stretching all the way down to Clay St! I was curious about it but didn't want to wait in line, so I did my produce shopping until 1:30, went back and the line had dissipated by then. I got two Asian wraps the size of large burritos for only $3.50 each! (1 is $4.00, you get 2 for $7.00). I took them home and hubby really liked them and was impressed at how fresh they were and how delicious the hoisin-peanut sauce was. I'm like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to farmer's markets. I bought the best cherries here last year! I can't wait until fresh picked cherries come in next month which I buy by the bagfuls to make cherry crisps, turnovers, pies or galettes, and extra cherries to pit and freeze so I can enjoy them all year round. I also got the best pomelos and oro blanco grapefruits here, so sweet and juicy! There is a good selection of basic Asian vegetables here too. The dried fruit vendor was so nice to me. She had a delicious selection of hard to find dried white peaches and dried comice pears that I wanted to send to my son who is overseas, and when I told her how he missed California fruit, she put in a large extra handful in my bag free of charge! This farmer's market is only on Fridays from 9:00-2:00. While here, I always make it a point to do my additional Asian grocery shopping in nearby Chinatown and take home a succulent roast duck or tasty dim sum. Finding parking is a challenge, I usually park in the Renaissance Plaza parking lot (same price as the meters at $2/hr) and walk over. Hubby loves it when I do this combined farmer's market and Chinatown grocery shopping because I always bring home fun and delicious groceries and treats. He said it's like the part in the Laura Ingalls Wilder children's book "Little House in the Big Woods" when Papa would go into town and bring back all sorts of fun and delicious groceries and supplies to their cabin in the woods.

Yelp
My first time here. There's not too many booths but it's spread out. It's set up at an intersection then branches out in 3 partial streets, well 4 if you count the trucks occupying the other street. Prepared foods are kind of expensive. Produce prices are competitive. There's a Vietnamese stall that sells different types of rolls. Instead of being the usual small rolls, these are burrito size so the price is worth it. The best stall is the one that sells fresh fish. No kidding the fish is fresh. I bought wasabi tuna salad and fresh boneless trout. What a difference in flavor! There was no fishiness from the trout whatsoever. I would come back just to get fresh fish.
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
My favorite farmers' market. I like the variety of vendors, the live music/entertainment, and the vibe of the crowd (aka the diversity of the community). You'll have Asian elders mixed in with professionals and others shopping for food or their lunch. I like the flower vendors and their prices are great. If you're into balut, a guy sells them here. Overall, it's a bustling farmers' market with good-priced fresh produce, and you'll likely walk away with some great finds at a good price.

Yelp
Ahhhhhhhh, the Market... This is a Farmers market to me that has gotten a lot better recently (wasn't bad before) with a lot more food items, and baked good than they've previously had. I usually don't eat at the Farmers market and come for the caramel popcorn that's soooo sweet, and soooo buttery and I recently bought some honey granola that's extra good. I did not get their name sadly, but if they are there next Friday I will go back and get the same thing then update my review to include a name and pictures. I had the strawberry aqua Fresca and the chicken and cheese green enchiladas. The enchiladas were only 5 bucks (2 nice sized ones) and super good! They provide you with sour cream, salsa, jalapenos, and I believe a few other things you can have in to go containers. The market has many other places to eat, flowers and plants, a tasty granola stand, homemade honey, soaps, pots and pans, fruits and vegetables. Cheers to Oakland's Farmers Market...and always a good Friday here.

Yelp
REVIEW # 126 Old Oakland Farmers Market has been on my "to-do" list for quite some time and I finally had the opportunity to see what all the fuss was about! Located on 9th street and Broadway this farmers market offers tons of great vendors! From food on wheels, fruits and vegetables, jewelry, clothing...the list goes on and on. Just to name a few vendors that I had seen and enjoyed were: * Original Handcraft Jewelry Vendor from Walnut Creek. Sales a large variety of beautiful and colorful different necklaces. *Way to Life Food (Food vendor) *The Oakland chocolate Company-Selling delicious chocolates of all types. *The Hummus Guys! (If you attend farmers markets then I am sure that you have seen this vendor around before! * Cholita Linda-One of my favorite Oakland taco joints in the bay area! I love this restaurant and love that there making more of a presence at different farmer markets and festival and fairs! *All Star Tamales *Roti Roti-selling that delicious ol' rotisserie chicken. I was also happy to see that persimmons were back in season! These are my favorite! Nice, sweet and tasty! OMG! FIRST TIP: Wait till the last hour to come here as you get more of a deal from the vendors closer to the time that they are about to close. I was able to get great discounts after 2PM. It seemed as if vendors at that time wanted to just give stuff away and not bring anything with them. SECOND TIP: Pets are not allowed except for service animals of course. But please note that if you bring your animal you would be asked to leave the farmers market. THIRD TIP: Great place to eat or grab a snack and people watch. The market offers tables and chairs right in the middle of the market and this is a chance to watch the people walk from vendor to vendor as well as enjoy a meal on a great beautiful day! Definitely one of my favorite farmers market. They offer a large variety of different items and I love that! Definitely check them out on Fridays from 8AM-2PM if you are close to the area, you won't regret it! REVIEW 171/196

Yelp
I grew up in a neighborhood with a Farmer's Market, so the whole fresh produce is part of my life and inspires the food I make and cook. I've lived in the East Bay for awhile now, but just discovered the Old Oakland Farmer's Market. I love strolling through the stalls to see what' the season produced and letting it inspire what I make for our meals at home. I might buy something I've never tried before and appreciate it even more, since it was locally grown and sold.

D B.

Yelp
If you are in the area on a Friday, be sure to check out this farmers market. You'll find fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, and several food booths including Cholita Linda and Roli Roti.
google avatar

Yelp
A good number of produce vendors at sane prices. The prepared food is ok to good depending on which one. Why 2-stars? Because the DJs & musicians they bring out play the same songs over and over and over again. I'm convinced they are trying to keep people from staying too long. I have heard "Stand By Me" played *5* times so far.
google avatar

Infodiva B.

Yelp
I am glad some of my Farmer's Market favorites can be bought in the East Bay. Yeah I am hooked on Roli Roti and the Hummus guy so I'll be back on Friday's for this market.

Joon L.

Yelp
Ok place for a quick grocery shopping... Most products are quite fresh. Fruits are not cheap... Go elsewhere for lunch because the food is sort of expensive for the quality they have...

Yelp
Old Oakland Farmers' Market When: Every Friday throughout the year from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. I was disappointed today. I was able to check the farmers' market out (I had been looking forward to it for over a week), but it was raining a lot initially. That kept people away. It also kept me from looking around more closely and taking better pictures (a few I took turned out lousy). I'm under the impression that there were fewer vendors around too. My friend Nicole told me about some good rotisserie chicken that she had earlier, but no vendors were selling hot food today. I also saw a lot of beautiful flowers last week, but that wasn't the case this time (only one vendor was selling flowers period). The booth for The Hummus Guy stood out. http://www.thehummusguy.com/ Some good bread was sold at another booth. Sadly, my picture doesn't do it justice (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/old-oakland-farmers-market-oakland?select=uTLd7CoZe3EVhEf9pgFUUg#TfdA0_TPqOLDSvfpJltW-g). The produce I saw looked good (ex: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/old-oakland-farmers-market-oakland?select=uTLd7CoZe3EVhEf9pgFUUg#X5LLV3VxmLsJbx9GpY2u2A). I was especially drawn to some wonderful strawberries. Some vendors were more jovial than others, but I saw nothing but happy customers. (I'm sorry that I can't be more specific, but I know that the items here are priced well.) I went on a bad day. I should be crucified or burned at the stake (my wife would probably volunteer to help). You should be punished too if you never check this farmers' market out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suQ7gW-ITis

Yelp
You don't know how good this place is until you move out of state. I miss the diverse produce and OMG the street food! My fridays were not complete until I bought tamales, sausages, Asian vegetables and flowers to take home. Seriously looking for some of the vendors so they can ship me some honey orange almonds! They have a large farmers market here in Boise but it does not compare with the liveliness and variety of old Oakland farmers market.

Yelp
Today, I went to the Market around 1:30pm and some of the vendors were beginning to pack-up their stalls. Rather than having to haul their fruits and vegetables back, some of these vendors were discounting them. Love this time of the year with all the great delicious summer fruits. I scored some white peaches and nectarines marked down 50% to $1 /lb (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/old-oakland-farmers-market-oakland?select=DENM33QSK2Ml7Dt7xI-B-A#kW3KrGG1DeXhWl5c0602Qw) and a half-flat of six baskets of strawberries that were marked down to $6 from $8 (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/old-oakland-farmers-market-oakland?select=DENM33QSK2Ml7Dt7xI-B-A#DENM33QSK2Ml7Dt7xI-B-A). I'll be coming back more often towards the end of market's open hours in hopes of scoring more deals.

Yelp
It's been a while since I came to this farmer's market because I no longer work in the area. So I decided to come today since the weather is so nice, I really like this FM, there's a really good relaxing vibe here. Music playing, diverse crowd and good variety of food. Bought two tamales but I forgot the name of the vendor and a fish taco from cholita linda, and enjoyed people watching while eating. It was one of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Looks like I'll be making more of an effort to come here on Fridays.

Yelp
Saturday morning breakfast with goods I purchased from the Old Oakland Farmer's Market. --spinach bolani an Afghan flatbread filled with spinach --parnatha yoghurt dip from the Indian naan vendor --sweet navel oranges from Fresno definition of a pre-workout light breakfast with tasty international fare from my latest hidden treasure find.

Yelp
I always enjoy Fridays spent at this farmers market. To be sure, you will hear people speaking in numerous language, have your senses assaulted by good-smelling food cooking, and go home with flowers and produce. I only wish they had a larger organic selection.

Yelp
I hadn't been here for a long time, and never for lunch. It's kinda dinky, but there's plenty of produce. I checked out the food stands here - very limited, but no worse than JLS one. Still, it feels kinda seedy, since Old Oakland isn't exactly the cleanest part of the city.

Yelp
Just went today after not having been for many months or even a year. It might be the time of year but this market is light on produce vendors with many of the vendors having prepared food, baked goods, etc. and out of all the produce vendors there were only three whose stock was all or even partially organic. That said we scored at Far West Fungi with little baskets of organic wood or tree ears - have never seen those organic and I've been searching. They also had shiitake crack er jerky. Why didn't we buy more?

Yelp
Great ambiance. Abundance of stalls to peruse. I do wish that there were a bit more variety, but I've only been here during Fall and Winter months, so the market might flourish more as summer emerges. Either way, I like repatronizing this fm.

Yelp
Nothing like a thriving farmer's market in Old Oakland to make Fridays that much better! This Farmer's market has all the fruits and vegetables you need but come early or you'll miss out! I picked up some flowers from one of the stands and haggled for a dollar off since one of the bunches had been plenty handled. I like that the flower vendor was reasonable and wasn't offended at my haggling. What's a farmer's market if you can't haggle just a little? It also has a good assortment of food. Today I had the Argentinian Mushroom empanada! It was to die for! Buttery layers of bread on the outside and plenty of tasty mushrooms and cheese on the inside. The music in the middle of the street makes it all feel even better and the fact that you can score a seat under the shade!

Yelp
This market has so much to offer, and yet I keep coming back to Four Season Rolls for lunch every Friday because I've developed a slight addiction to the bento box salad. It's super fresh, healthy affordable, and huge. It's a magical mix of greens, noodles, carrots, cucumbers, delicately spiced tofu, cilantro, etc. I just can't get enough. They also have beef skewers, crab cakes, pad thai, chicken teriyaki, and of course, ROLLS of all seasons. I've pretty much had everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Thank you, Four Seasons Rolls, for making my day, yet again.

Yelp
Rain or shine! The Farmers' Market is there! It's becoming a tradition that every Friday, folks from work take a longer than usual lunch to stretch their legs and explore the farmer's market. I can't complain I love this growing tradition. It allows me to get out of the office, enjoy the sunshine (or rain) and get to know my coworkers over the leisurely walk from the office to Old Oakland. There is also something about open market bazaars that feel like I'm coming home. I grew up in the Philippines and supermarkets were kinda a new concept to me because when we needed ingredients to cook when I was younger, we would go to the market. Come by if you can and see the fresh fruit and veggies, some times there is even live fish in tanks of water. There is also music at the intersection for you to enjoy. As well as already made goodies from pastries, dips, cheeses, healthy foods and carnivores delights. Oh and there are seats near the music for you to sit and enjoy your lunch. Until next time. Cheers,

Yelp
This is a great get out of the office and stock up on good fruit n veg and grab some chow at the same time gig. The variety of veggies is solid and the fruit is great at the moment, and cheap too mostly. Just realise that a lot of the veg is available down the road in chinatown every other day for similar prices... It's good to be able to support local folks and score good produce for good $$. It's kinda crowded and some pushy, cart/stroller/backpack wieldin folks make things miserable here n there but I always enjoy it. My favs- ++Indian food place- expensive but naan o naan, love it. ++Afghani stall- great samples, so tasty and healthy? +Sausage stand, varies in quality some ++ Charley's Red Velvet Cake has changed my life. For the better. +Bread stall- some good bread but their cakes are sub-par ++Rosemary chicken- cheap if you get a half chx, sooo tasty ++Tamales- good gear if not cheap ++Empanadas/lumpia place- tasty, tasty , yeah. Check it and have a non-safeway shopping experience at least once a week...

Yelp
Every Friday, rain or shine (although not so many on a rainy day) this is a truly wonderful amenity. The farmers are all terrific, friendly, and very informative. There's a wide variety of produce that primarily leans toward Asian cuisine. Some of the better produce providers not geared toward the Asian market don't list their prices which is a bit annoying, but the quality id definitely there. If you buy produce expect it to go bad quickly so it needs to be consumer within a day or so. There are also flowers, nuts, and hard to find things like squash blossoms. I know people who travel quite a few miles who come to this particular market. It's not the only one in Oakland, but down to earth enough to be interesting. And there are food concessions, many. I like the tamales, Thai food (pad thai) and especially the fish tacos.

Yelp
This farmers' market is right next to Chinatown, so plan your parking accordingly or BART to Lake Merritt or 12th Street Oakland City Center! Because it is so close to Chinatown, a substantial number of the vendors are Chinese and they sell Chinese vegetables like siqua. When I went with my mom we saw lots of siqua, eggplant, okra, peaches, and plums, although I'd imagine what's been sold changes with the season. Most of the places selling peaches and plums offer samples! You may also have to be slightly more aggressive when battling the Chinese locals in trying to get to the front at some locations. The prices are fairly decent, and when it nears closing time (2PM) vendors start dropping prices. We bought plums for $1.50/lb (they were REALLY good), okra for $1.50/lb, yellow pluots for $1/lb, dried dates for $2.99 or $3.99 (I forgot)/lb, strawberries for $5/large box, and Taiwanese siqua for $0.50/lb. The only complaint I had was that the vendor selling the Taiwanese siqua was being really shady since they were clearly all soft in the middle and she was telling us not to press the center and kept handing my mom some and telling her they were good and to just put them in our bag. When my mom cooked it, they all ended up being black in the middle. Go with your gut instincts!! There were also vendors selling organic food, flowers, etc. There were also live performances with a hipstery feel in the middle of the market, which was nice. I've been to my fair share of disappointing farmers' markets, but this one is worth checking out!

Yelp
April 5th was my first time back here in probably 2 decades after seeing and smelling the food a coworker kept on eating every Friday. Asked him where he got it & he said at the Farmer's Market where he likes to stroll during lunch, and sometimes get fresh produce to bring home for his wife. Finally took my first trip walking down 11 whopping blocks with a friend to solely buy the bento mixed salad from 4 Seasons Roll booth at the food corner. Comes vegetarian, but I added shrimp and chicken for extra bucks, DELICIOUS!! Kept me full for over 7 hours because it's loaded with fiber & protein. Been craving for it ever since. Can't wait for Fridays to come around, more anxious about the food than my paycheck! Must try! Great place to get fresh fruits, veggies, plants & food!

Yelp
Great market with so many options, delicious fruit and good prices. Can not compare to the markets I have seen in Florida!

Yelp
Very good and BUSY market on Fridays in Oakland near China town. The old asian ladies shopping with you are quite brutal and pushy so watch your toes. The fruit and veggies were very cheap. Also had at the end of the street towards Jefferson a food truck/cart set up. Had all-star tamales and roll roti cart. Both were good. I would highly recommend you come down if you are ever in Oakland on Friday. Lots of good food to be had for quite cheap.
