"Located near the heart of San Jose del Cabo, Omakai sports a serene Mexican minimalist design while putting Japanese cuisine front and center. There are three menus to choose from, but whether you choose the teppanyaki tasting menu, the omakase, or select from the a la carte offerings, you can't go wrong. Those who opt for the omakase will find good quality, with many of the fish sourced from the local waters of La Paz and Ensenada. House-made pork belly gyoza are executed flawlessly, while the nigiri leans traditional at first, becoming more complex as the meal progresses. Seared salmon topped with a truffle sauce is decadently delicious. The meal concludes with a charming vanilla ice cream on squares of coffee jelly." - Michelin Inspector

The 14 Best Restaurants In Cabo San Lucas & San Jose Del Cabo - Cabo - The Infatuation

"Many of the sushi restaurants in Cabo lean heavily on Mexican flavors, but Omakai stands out for its traditional Japanese cuisine. The huge menu makes use of the region’s high-quality seafood, especially fatty tunas, with three different options on how to order: a la carte, teppanyaki, and omakase. And even though we love the salmon special roll with truffle butter from the a la carte menu, the omakase is the move." - nili blanck

My family and I have been coming to San Jose Del Cabo every December since 2008 and this is now our favorite restaurant. Food, drinks, ambience, presentation, service…hospitality at its finest. The owners are a beautiful young, humble and kind couple too, who took the time to check in with us as well as tell us their story. I wish I took more pictures but everything we ordered had us savoring every bite! We will be back next year for sure!!

Had a wonderful meal here. After a week of delicious tacos in La Ventana/El Sergento my better half wanted sushi and WOW did we find it here. After a bottle of sake we may have gotten a little carried away trying everything on the menu and spent a fine dining price but we were not disappointed as the service, food and feel lived up to the high price point. Highlights being the agadashi tofu, crispy rice with tuna tartar and most of all the porkbelly gyozas; amazing! Cannot express how much you need to try these gyozas. The quality of the fish on the nigiri was second to none. The chocolate dumplings with ice cream were a nice way to finish. Only one of the rolls didn't live up to expectations. That said a very positive experience. Francisco took care of us with impeccable service, ellagant professionalism and a calm humor. We throughly enjoyed his company. Thank you Omakai. Keep up the good work.

It may seem odd getting Japanese food in Mexico but when you’re tired of eating delicious tacos and ceviche and are looking for something fancy and different, this is the place to check out. The sashimi and hand rolls were on point. The Chutoro was our favorite, followed by the hamachi and toro and spicy salmon. We will be back here for sure.

This restaurant provided the unequivocal best meal of our trip. It's not your typical neighborhood sushi place; it's a more refined experience, and I wouldn't recommend bringing children expecting California rolls and hibachi theatrics. There are essentially two dining options: A la Carte or Omakase. I strongly recommend the Omakase. During our visit, there were three Omakase choices: a 12-course, a 15-course, and a 20-course option. You can start with the 12-course and upgrade to the higher tiers, paying only the difference. Some of the more traditional sushi (mostly nigiri, in this case) were exceptional. There were also interpretations of standards, like those with foie gras. While not bad, they were a bit excessive and overshadowed the fish. I should also note that, ideally, sushi rice should be loose and served warm or at body temperature. The rice started this way but cooled down throughout the meal. Despite these minor criticisms, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting.

The best sushi I've had in my life. Reasonable price for the quality. Everything we had we wanted more of. I had to get a second bowl of the steak fried rice. Sushi melted in your mouth.

Very good place if you know Japonese food! If you want cream cheese and serrano on your soy sauce please stay way from this place they don't "deserve" YOU!! Our experience were great with many fresh fish with explosive of flavors, cold shake and nice chefs that made our night very pleasant making us feeling like family. I highly recommend it despite of being pricey. If you don't mind paying for high quality this is your place.

This is for the premium omakase experience, which we found disappointing. If we had ordered a la carte or a different omakase, I think we would have felt differently. First, the pros: the fish is AMAZING. Top quality, so tender, and expertly prepared. The melted butter toppings, the salmon with uni, and the unagi with foie gras were all delicious *chef's kiss*. But when you're paying $480 USD for a meal including drinks and tip (the most expensive we had in San Jose del Cabo by far), you have very high expectations. The menu has 3 options for omakase, ranging from 1200 to 2500 pesos. The premium is 2500 pesos. The menu said that the premium option had premium fish and chef's toppings (which we absolutely agreed with!). It also said it included "hot dishes" (note the plural). Friends, we got miso soup. That's it. I even asked the waiter if that was all and he said yes. If you're only giving miso soup, just PLEASE write "miso soup." From the phrase "hot dishes," we expected more. Maybe a small piece of fried chicken? A couple dumplings? Tempura? Chawanmushi? Nope, none of those. The dessert was vanilla ice cream with canned fruit and a crab rangoon wonton (famously an American-Chinese invention, lol). Memorable, but not in a good way. The wine list (if I remember correctly) only had bottles of Casa Madero and Monte Xanic (which are ok but not the best Mexican wines). The sake by the glass was Shochikubai which is basically cooking sake. So we ordered a bottle of a sake that looked nice, which they were out of. Finally, the service was just ok. We had to ask for napkins, didn't receive any water refills, had to ask for the drink menu at least twice. All of this is fine but not what I would expect at all from a Michelin recommended restaurant. So, despite having absolutely incredible fish (truly the best we've had in Cabo), we were disappointed. If we'd ordered the less expensive omakase and brought our own wine, and if the menu wasn't misleading, we probably would have been happier, but between the price and the Michelin recommendation, we were expecting a lot more.

Some of the best Japanese food I have ever had - the fresh fish was buttery soft and the flavours were delicious. The fried gyoza was the best I have had. Service was also incredible, absolutely recommend - sad I cannot come here all the time as I live out of country.
