"This cozy izakaya in Brookline Village has been serving no-frills Japanese bar fare for years and can get quite busy on weekends, thanks to its $7 mai tais and $5.50 draft beer. To help the drinks go down, its yakitori and kushiyaki menu offers a great selection of poultry and non-poultry skewers cooked over a bed of hot charcoal. For something that’s more elevated and special occasion-worthy, the chef’s omakase comes in a box divided into nine sections, each compartment featuring a sashimi or onigiri that’s decorated in exquisite detail. It has a sibling location in Malden." - Valerie Li Stack

"Omori is a small, lively izakaya in Brookline Village. It’s right across the street from what is currently the only dispensary in Boston, but hold off on that until dessert, because the food here is good enough to be appreciated without performance enhancers. It’s far from the best Japanese place in Boston, but if you live nearby you should pop in a few times a year for sake and robata skewers." - Dan Secatore

I really enjoyed my experience here at Omori. It’s a great place for good quality sushi at a reasonable price, and fast service. My only feedback, is.. unfortunately.. the appetizers. We had the seaweed salad and shishito peppers, and they weren’t that great. We could have done without them. BUT THE SUSHI? Sushi was phenomenal. I loved how fresh and the temperature of the sushi. When I have raw foods, I don’t mind them being room temp or cold, but the cooked sushi, I do prefer warm or even closer to hot. I give this place a solid 8.9! Would come here again.

PROS: Omori Izakaya is a perfectly located corner restaurant. Their food was delicious. Nothing bad to say! Love, love , loved it! I hope they stick around because they are the only true Izakaya restaurant in the area. CONS: However, I think they are forgetting about the overall cleanliness and tidiness of the restaurant, which is equally as important as the food they offer. The front door glass - and all the glass windows - of the restaurant looks like it has not been cleaned in ages, floor looks dingy, the women’s restroom ( I can only imagine the men’s restroom is in the same state) does not look neat, floor needs major cleaning. There is a Lysol spray bottle right next to the sink needs cleaning. There’s black stuff buildup at the base of the faucet. You should have a dedicated small standalone cabinet for cleaning supplies. There’s space for it. Restroom smells like urine. There’s litter on the sides, the heater on the ground is super dusty. Also, my husband who used to co-owner of a restaurant, noticed the kitchen had a floor/ ground blower that needed major cleaning. It would be a shame if the community loses you because you neglected the cleaning of your restaurant. It’s a Japanese restaurant and it would be fit to follow the cleanliness and neatness which is up to the standard and tradition of the Japanese. You should hire a dedicated service to clean the restaurant on a regular basis. First a deep cleaning to start, the a cleaning once a week. But staff needs to sweep daily and check in on the restrooms to make sure they are clean and fresh. —- This is coming from a customer who wants to continue to enjoy the food and the good service you offer.

Google
It was fine. The sushi is affordable ($8 for six pieces) and isn’t fishy. Oddly enough, the best part of the meal was the complimentary cabbage salad. (3.9/5)

We tried this place on a whim. It was extremely good and fresh!! We have made this our go to sushi place.I am pretty sure the workers remember my husband, because he loves extra wasabi.... they gave us a bunch the second time we visited (picture) 😆 ❤️

Google
My wife is Japanese. When in Japan we often eat at Izakaya restaurants, and based on our experience Omori is pretty authentic. We tried 8 or 9 different menu items and liked them all. Service was excellent -- which is essential for Izakaya style dining. By the way, the cocktails are also cheap and good! All in all, we give it 4.5 stars.

This is one of the best sushi spots I've ever been to. The Snow Mountain is my all time fav!

Google
Overall 8/10. -The octopus and clam were a little chewy and smelled fishy but other dishes were all delicious. -best part about this restaurant: they have orion beer (best Japanese beer in my opinion)

Google
My husband & I found this place since it was close to our hotel. We enjoyed miso soup, several sushi rolls and the dumplings. The service was fast and server was very pleasant. Nice spot to enjoy a meal in a casual setting.

Yelp
Overall: recommend this location as a date spot and/or small group hangout-spot Good quality fish and boozy house cocktails were $6ish each. The octopus was a bit rubbery and I personally could have done without it. Also to note, the meal came with house cabbage salad (super simple cabbage + a miso dressing) and a small bowl of miso soup. The service was friendly but can become pretty slow (30min to get the check and another 20ish to get the card back) when it gets busy Particular highlight: The shishitou kushiyaki/skewer was delicious--seasoned great with good texture (not just mushy) Pros: - Pretty easy parking for Brookline, there's street parking along the train tracks (pic below) - Good value when considering cost vs portion + quality, including the salad + miso soup Cons: - Can get really crowded and loud, sensory warning - Service can be slow when it's super crowded - Drinks other than house cocktails are a bit overpriced in my opinion (but it *is* Brookline...) - some menu items (octopus and fried oyster) are underwhelming due to texture - Miso soup was pretty watered down

Yelp
Food was just ok so my friend and I didn't think it was worth the price. Would rate this place 3.5 stars but rounded up because service was ok. What we got - - omakase for 2 - gyutan - hotate kaiyaki - uni nigiri

Joy Q.

Yelp
Unbelievably overhyped and disappointing place with poor quality. I appreciate the nice service and convenient location, but the food was a huge miss : 1) chicken karage: the only dish that met my expectations of the night. Tender inside but some pieces have an over cooked and chewy /not crispy outside 2) beef tongue: so chewy and over cooked that my jaw was sore afterwards 3) chicken skin skewer: absurdly over fried flavorless and bitter chicken skin, ridiculous far from what I had at other Japanese restaurants; 4) sushi: bad, bad, bad!!!!! Uni was extremely fishy, fish was not fresh, sushi rice was not rice, and even the presentation was terrible - the fish was so unevenly placed as pictured I felt like a fool after spending almost a hundred bucks here for such poor food. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for a good izakaya- not here!!

Yelp
Very good Japanese food to eat there or to go. Stopped by on a Tuesday night after a long flight to get food to go. Service was friendly and quick, I was able to sit at the small bar and look over the menu before I ordered. I got the chicken katzu appetizer, spring rolls, small miso, and an Osaka sushi roll. Katzu and spring roles were freshly made, seemed pretty standard with the flavor so I think they get them pre-made but not sure. Osaka roll had a slightly off smell, not really fishy but almost fermented, so may have been the lobster roe or something. Shrimp tempura inside was fine, so overall a decent roll. Didn't eat the miso right away so that made for a nice snack the next day. Was standard miso with tofu squares, some seaweed and broth. Again a pretty standard flavor so I don't think it was made from scratch but still tasty. Folks were enjoying the outside deck as it was nice weather and there was a good amount of folks dining inside, along with steady traffic for to go. Order was ready within the 10 minutes they said, order was perfectly correct. There is a good ice cream place across the street so that is an open for dessert. They didn't have cranberry juice to go so went for a ginger ale which was $3 for a can, but the conveince store was closed. Overall a good choice with a good atmosphere and a solid variety of options

Yelp
Was nervous about this spot due to the mixed reviews, but we ended up loving it. If you're looking for a place to hang with friends and to snack while drinking, this is the place. We ordered the fried oysters, fried soft shell crab, hamachi collar, pork belly buns, some sushi, skewers, and fried matcha icecream. All of the food was honestly pretty good and came out quickly. I'd skip the skewers next time though. All reasonably priced. They have $7 cocktails which is hard to find in Boston. Margaritas and mai tais were pretty good Service was very quick and they checked on us a lot. Please try this spot

Yelp
Really fresh sushi at an affordable price!!! The inside of the restaurant has a cute ambiance and decor; the outside is a little confusing to me because they still have Christmas lights and decorations up (as of mid February). Although I am pretty festive, this feels like a lazy move. Service felt a little rushed; stopped by every minute to ask for our order, and delivered the bill before we had even decided if we wanted more drinks or dessert. However they did treat us to an appetizer. I tried the steamed gyoza, spicy tuna roll, and the otoro and wagyu nigiri. The spicy tuna roll was large (and filling) and the nigiri were fresh and unique flavor- the wagyu was my favorite!

Yelp
Waited months for my next visit to Boston to try this place! Arrived at 5pm and was seated promptly. Loved our Omakase! Hotate was VERY filling. Tako yaki was perfect. Skewers were slightly on the saltier side. Everything was delicious and fresh! So glad we tried this place and can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Overall: really cute family(?) owned Japanese restaurant that really reminds me of the mom and pops in LA. They have really solid food at a reasonable price! Food: we started off with the takoyaki and I will admit it it's one of the better places for it! The flavors in the ball itself were on point and the octopus is a perfect balance of chewiness but not rubbery! The dynamite was easily the highlight with all the sauce drizzled on top of the scallop. Imagine an Asian version of a clam bake? I will admit it's incredibly heavy but it's well worth it! Ambience/Decor/Service: the service was incredibly quick and polite! The decor wasn't anything spectacular but exactly the homey feel that I miss in LA.

Jason B.

Yelp
Best service, food, ambience, freshness, and menu. Try the appetizers. I usually order a meal and 1 sushi item, and that is perfect.

Malina N.

Yelp
Located in Brookline, MA, Omori Izakaya satisfies your sushi craving with a variety of maki rolls and omakase options like "Chef Omakase for Two" which presents 9 different types of sushi in a beautiful bento box and at an affordable price‼ Omori Izakaya is a great option for an affordable and impressive sushi date night! I definitely want to come back to try their yakitori, kushiyaki, and more sushi on their menu

Henry L.

Yelp
Read the review and thought it's worth trying. Service is terrible there when we asked for a table for good amount of people and she started giving attitude and rolling her eyes. Doesn't matter how good the food is not deserved the 4 stars, stay far away.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
I got a California roll and steamed shrimp shumai were really yummy, but what made them very special was the sauce that they gave me to pair with it it was really outstanding Did takeout but I could see it being really lovely to eat outside here within the enclosed area

Gene W.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my lunch here! We ordered the Agedashi Tofu, Eggplant, and Soft Shell Crab for appetizers, and every one of them were flavorful and well-presented. We opted for their selection of yakitori and were very pleased with the chicken, meatballs, and especially the shishito pepper. To wrap everything up, we had the Miyazaki roll, which has avocado, cooked shrimp, and mayo covered with seared wagyu with unagi sauce--this was absolutely fantastic, layers of incredible flavor with melt-in-your-mouth A5 grade beef. I'll be coming back again, especially since they actually have hot sake!

Yelp
I came here to visit for my birthday as it looked like a pretty chill place to go with my family.I went on a holiday and it was pretty quiet with only about three groups in the restaurant. Service was just alright and definitely could have been better. My family arrived at the restaurant before me and as soon as I came in the server asked if I wanted to place my order when I had barely looked at the menu. They were also kind of rushing us throughout our time there despite it not being busy. We ordered some apps and entree items and food was pretty good, nothing special. However, one thing did stand out, which was the miso eggplant. I don't even really like to order eggplant because most places don't make it right, but it was so good. Everything else, even including my unagi don, was just alright. They have really nice drink specials though with cocktails under $10. A $130 bill without tip is not bad for a group of 5 so that was nice to see since that's a rarity. I am glad I finally got to visit here and see it for myself but I don't plan to come back

Yelp
Visited again recently, this time for lunch, and was very disappointed. It seemed like prices went up but quality had declined a little. The Chef's Omakase for Two had more expensive items in it now (fatty tuna and sea urchin), but the raw items did not seem to be prepared it in a way to pack the subtly sweet, rich depth of sashimi that I would expect. The octopus was overcooked and cut a bit too thick for how chewy it was. The sushi rice felt a little dry, but the bowl of rice was ok - which makes me wonder if one was made much before the other. The Agedashi Tofu broth was delicious, but the skin didn't seem to be fried optimally. Miso soup had hardly any miso flavor. The service was not very good or coordinated. They took plates away from our table without asking. We also had asked them to let us keep a menu in case we wanted to order more, but when the initial food came, they took the menu away without asking either. And yet, when we were nearly done, three different servers came to us almost right after another, asking if we were all set. It was not very crowded at all, and this seemed rather disruptive. It wasn't really a pleasant dining experience. The ambiance has not changed much - a cozy izakaya space, relatively quiet, decorated with bamboo blinds, wooden signs, and more. I did not notice before, but there is a huge bar area down the stairs.

Lily S.

Yelp
We ended up at Omori Izakaya. They were great and service was attentive. They even accommodated us changing the reservation at the last minute from 6 to 10. Food came out fast and yummy. Only sad that they didn't have anymore hamachi. We ordered almost everything on the menu and overall it was pretty good!

Kristen K.

Yelp
Great deal for an omakase for two people! Tasted very fresh and probably some of the better tako that I've had. We actually went with a total of the we people so we ordered a couple of side dishes to go with the omakase portion. Squid was pretty good, wasabi octopus was not super up my alley nor were the shishito peppers as both of those were a touch too spicy to be completely enjoyable for me. Fairly large space inside with a long high top counter as well. Street parking outside, or public parking lot a few blocks away.

Joseph L.

Yelp
Went here on a sunday afternoon and wasn't busy at all. Ordered the omakase for two and bot green tea. Tea wasn't too flavorful, but it has free refills. The sashimi was fresh and very good. The fatty tuna was especially full of flavor. The service was very good, and they checked up on us periodically to make sure we were good.

Tulsa H.

Yelp
Our first time trying here. The food was decent but nothing special, IMHO. See pictures for recommendations.

Melinda K.

Yelp
Sushi here is DELICIOUS! It is consistently freshly prepared with generous cuts. I've tried a few specialty rolls which have all been really good. I'm particularly fond of the sushi and sashimi selection as the fish is so fresh! It has also been really good as takeout. If you order online you also get a discount. I'm happy I pushed past the initial first impression which was service was not great as they completely forgot about us sitting at the bar. Seems like weekend they very much prefer you have a reservation.

Sonia N.

Yelp
Been here twice now and both times it did not disappoint. We LOVE the value of their Chef Omakase for Two box set. Great quality cuts of sushi and sashimi and the sashimi comes in 4 pieces -- what an awesome deal at $68! I also love their Uni nigiri; it's so creamy and fresh. Hubby also orders the Kushiyaki Combo each time in addition to the Omakase and loves the variety there as well. The hotate kaiyaki, while tasty, was odd to us since their rendition is made with cheese but the tako wasabi and fried oysters tasted great as standard izakaya staples. Service is at lightning speed and we were able to find on-street parking easily both times. No wait times either and one visit was on a Friday evening, which is great. Strong 4 stars and highly recommend for a casual izakaya experience.

Philippe-Antoine B.

Yelp
The food was not bad, service was disappointing. We didn't get our takoyaki until after the main courses (easily 1+ hour), and when we inquired, instead of admitting they had forgotten about it. Takoyaki take a long time to make, but not this long. The waitress was quite rude the whole time. The sashimi was decent and the skewers were pretty good. Ambiance was nice. Overall, not sure I would come back.

Leah L.

Yelp
Great food! We were seated very quickly and the food came out right away. They were very accommodating as one of the people in our party has some food allergies and they were very conscientious about making sure the food was to our liking. They have a wide selection of yakitori and kushiyaki which were good but not anything phenomenal or unique. However the chef omakase for two was definitely a winner for me! 68 dollars was a very reasonable price and it comes out in a 9 part box with different types of fish. I loved the salmon which tasted very fresh. I'm really looking forward to coming back here if I'm in the area!

Yelp
As twilight wrapped the city in its cozy blanket, my fiancé and I stumbled upon Omori Izakaya, a hidden gem in Brookline, MA that whisked us away to the lively streets of Japan. With top bar seating that could've been lifted straight from an anime scene, we were warmly welcomed and swiftly seated. Our server zoomed in, ready to hydrate our parched mouths and kick-start our flavor expedition. We dove into a fantastic foursome: Miso Soup, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Shishitou Peppers, and Chicken Wings. The Miso Soup felt like a gentle hug from a long-lost friend , while the Vegetable Spring Rolls redefined deliciousness, rocking our taste buds with their crunchy, veggie-packed goodness. The Shishitou Peppers and Chicken Wings tag-teamed, creating a culinary alliance that had us clucking with glee. Those chickens must be strutting with pride in the great beyond, knowing they left such a delectable legacy on our plates. Our appetites whetted, we plunged into the House Specials, feasting on the Miyazaki and Ginza Rolls. The Ginza Roll was a seafood soirée, with shrimp tempura and torched salmon mingling among flying fish roe and scallions, all dressed up in a snazzy eel sauce. The Miyazaki Roll was a Wagyu beef wonderland that had us tearing up from pure bliss. Every divine mouthful convinced us that the Wagyu cows must be frolicking happily in paradise, proud of the culinary masterpiece they inspired. Next, we tackled the Back to Original menu, sampling Dragon Maki, Spicy Tuna Maki, Crazy Maki, and Snow Mountain Maki. Each roll tickled our taste buds, with the Spicy Tuna Maki setting off a delightful firework show in our mouths. The freshness and craftsmanship behind each roll were unmistakably the work of a sushi sorcerer. ‍‍ The Sushi and Sashimi section brought us face to face with the legendary Wagyu. Each tender bite was like a love letter to our taste buds, a true masterpiece. And let's not forget the Chef Omakase for Two, a standing ovation-worthy flavor extravaganza that left us speechless. Now, don't judge our insatiable hunger; after a 13-hour fast, I attacked this banquet with the gusto of a ravenous food warrior. And yes, I devoured it all. God bless America, indeed! Somehow, the service remained spot-on despite the bustling crowd, and the prices were as comforting as the ambiance. Omori Izakaya has secured a place in our hearts and stomachs, and we can't wait for our next edible escapade there. Hats off to the owner, the chefs, and the staff for an uproarious and unforgettable experience that has us craving more! P.S. You'll find ample street parking in the vicinity, but be sure to allot some extra time to secure a spot before your visit.

Yelp
I recently have lunch here and had a pleasant experience. The service was impressively quick and friendly, making me feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout my visit. The food was a little bit above average, with a variety of dishes that showcased the restaurant's commitment to quality. The sushi was fresh, and the flavors were well-balanced, though not particularly extraordinary. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, adding to the overall enjoyable dining experience. If you're looking for a place with efficient service and decent food, Omori is worth a visit.

Amirah A.

Yelp
Best sushi i've ever had in my entire life. We had the Tokyo roll and the Sashimi and Sushi combo. I've never had such amazing quality fish. Fatty, Flavorful, Refreshing. I don't even write yelp reviews but coming here just once made me just HAVE to give this place 5 stars. Service was super nice and attentive and food came out so quick. The ambiance was quite nice as well! Surprised it isn't busier!!!

Phuong L.

Yelp
Overall a solid 4/5 but it wasn't amazing. I think it depends on what you get. I loved the squid, snow mountain maki, and chicken skewer. Some other items were just okay.

Alice D.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner and the place was decently busy, but there was plenty of space at the shared table space so we were seated there. My chair was right next to the door and it was a cold day though so it was a little uncomfortable honestly, but there wasn't too much foot traffic so it wasn't unbearable. The service was quick and efficient with taking our order. Their menu spans across a few izakaya dishes as well as plenty of sushi options so we decided to get a mix of both. The food came out a little disjointed though and in a weird order - we even forgot something was coming out as it arrived after we were finished with our entrees. I would probably recommend that they do a little better with spacing out everything and having it come in an order that makes more sense. The octopus dish was pretty tasty, albeit it definitely seemed like something they premake ages before as it was super strong in wasabi flavor. Nonetheless, I'd order this one again for sure. The sushi was all pretty good quality and no complaints there - I enjoyed the diversity in fish types for the combo meals. The soup that came with it was fine, nothing that stood out but it was solid. The takoyaki was honestly a little small for its price - I'd think it would come with more pieces or have bigger portions for each ball. The scallop was nice though and had a good mix of flavors, I enjoyed it a lot. Overall, I don't think I would come back for their izakaya dishes, but their sushi was okay. A little pricy, but the quality was not bad.

Nicole N.

Yelp
I think I originally saw this place on social media, seeing the delicious omakase box for two people. I was intrigued, and wanted to try. I decided to have a birthday dinner here, so I made a reservation for 10 on a Saturday night. EXPERIENCE We all arrived at different times, we were sat at a bar level table in the middle of the restaurant. The server took all of our orders individually. I think that the service after that was mediocre. They didn't even refill our water, and I had run out at some point. None of our orders were messed up so that was good. They told us that we could split the check, but at the end of the dinner, it was just one check, which was mildly frustrating. FOOD (4/5) Chef Omakase for Two: Madai?, Tako (octopus) , Fried Oyster, Sake (salmon), Toro (tuna), Hamachi (yellow tail), Hotate (scallop) , Crab Salad with Hokkigai (surf clam), Salmon and Tuna nigiri) - The fish was fresh and delicious. None of it was overly fancy, but there were some kinds that I don't see very often so that was a nice surprise. I was happy with the variety of common and unusual varieties of seafood, it was a good balance. I always get frustrated when the omakase, in whatever form, is just placed in front of me, seems kind of disrespectful to the sushi craft. There was no explanation of the types of fish being served, so I just had to guess. I think it was pretty good value, especially for two people and cool presentation. This also came with two miso soup (not pictured) . So the meal was quite filling. OVERVIEW The service was mediocre at best. The fish was fresh. The presentation was nice. The portions pretty good. I think its a decent value. Its not a must try, but pretty good sushi overall. If you are craving and in the area, I would suggest this place to you. No need to go out of your way though. Overall, good spot.

Francis G.

Yelp
I was declined service - I am a disabled veteran, with a service dog certified by the VA. Under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a service animal is allowed in all public areas where I am allowed. There are only two exceptions -- a surgery room or a church without permission. It was a humiliating experience!

Andrew J.

Yelp
Helpful tip: check for parking by the T station that area has most available parking (still not a lot though) Review: I honestly thought it was very average. It's definitely a lil pricey. It's not bad but it's not the best I've had. The best thing here I would say is the sushi. One thing I wouldn't order again is the grilled squid. You couldn't go wrong with this choice I guess. The service was fine.

Brian W.

Yelp
We arrived around 7:00pm and were lucky enough to get a seat outside. We had been wanting to eat here for a while, specifically outside in the summer to hear the T rush by below us, and it had a really great ambiance. We were seated and our order was taken very quickly. We also probably waited only 5 or so minutes before our miso soup and Omakase made it to the table - it was incredibly quick! The skewers took a little longer, but we had all of our food probably only 10 minutes after we ordered. Chef Omakase For Two ($68) - This came in a tray with 9 sections and also came with rice and miso soup (not pictured). We really loved the variety and the chance to try a bunch of different fish here. The quality tasted really nice and all of the fish tasted fresh: 1. Surf Clam and Crab Salad - The clam was actually not too chewy and there was a LOT of crab salad. Really great value with this one! 2. Salmon Sashimi (x4) - The sashimi was really thickly cut and nice and fatty. It tasted fresh and good quality. 3. Shrimp and Tuna Sushi - The ratio of rice to fish was great, and the fish tasted fresh. 4. Fried Oyster (x2) - We didn't know what this was at first, but it was amazing. It was a nice juicy deep fried oyster with spicy mayo on top. Very flavorful! 5. Fatty Tuna Sashimi (x4) - My favorite part of the platter - this was really fresh and clean tasting. It was nice and fatty and went well with a nice bit of wasabi. 6. Octopus (x4) - A little chewy and didn't have too much flavor, but not bad all around. 7. Salmon and White Tuna Sushi - Good ratios of fish and rice again. Good quality fish like the others. 8. Yellowtail Sashimi (x4) - Very fresh tasting. 9. Scallop Sashimi (x3) - Nice and citrusy with the lemon. The scallop was sweet as well, and had a nice pop with the roe. Kushiyaki Combo ($18) - This was a nice complement to the omakase, but we probably would have been full without it still. We really wanted to try the skewers because it was an izakaya after all, and they tasted pretty nice. I'm not sure if we would get the set again, but it seemed like a decent value and came with 6 skewers: 1. Shishitou Pepper (x4) - These were surprisingly good. They were seasoned nicely and not spicy. They went well with a bite of meat from the other skewers. 2. Beef Tendon Ball (x4) - Bouncy but still very meaty. I usually don't like tendons, but there was plenty of meat on these. 3. Kurobuda Sausage (x4) - Tasted a little like a hotdog, but not bad. I like hot dogs. 4. Pork Belly - Actually a bit dry. Had some fat on it, but didn't make it juicy enough, which was a little disappointing. 5. Chicken Thigh - Very juicy and well seasoned. Delicious! 6. Chicken Breast - A bit dry and smothered in teriyaki sauce. Definitely my least favorite of the 6 skewers. All in all, it was pretty pricey, so I don't think we would order these dishes on a regular basis, but we did enjoy trying a bunch of different things on our first time here. We would probably get the Omakase again for a nice occasion - it was very fresh and the variety was really fun to try as a couple. We'd love to return and try some other dishes and add a few skewers to our order instead of the combo as well. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you are in the area!

Yelp
Date night in Brookline so we decided to try a new spot, but we were disappointed. The food was fine, but the omakase was basic. It comes in a 9 box set with multiple pieces of sashimi and sushi. When I think of omakase I think of an elevated sushi experience with a special seasoning or marinade. The food was good but shouldn't be called and charged as an omakase. Just get the sushi sashimi combo and you get the same experience. The only things that were different were the fried oysters and the spicy mayo lobster salad. The fried oyster was good but again not amazing but the lobster salad was not good. The spicy mayo overpowered the lobster and the lobster meat had a frozen texture to it. The grilled squid was fine, it was cooked properly but lacked flavor. The dipping sauce was too salty and it was dusted with some chili powder. Overall if you are looking for sushi, this is a good option, my rating is really due to their sad attempt at a omakase. Their Tokyo roll looked interesting but since we got the omakase I thought it would be overkill if we ordered that in addition. After you eat here, go across the street to Jaime's for some ice cream.

Yelp
My bf and I wanted to treat ourselves a little and the chef's omakase was a great choice! We enjoyed taking our time and trying the 9 different selections, including buttery toro (just melts in your mouth), salmon, yellowtail, fried oyster (so good), octopus, etc. It was like a tasting experience and the quality was definitely higher than most restaurant sushi. We are not sushi/sashimi snobs and appreciated the great value for the experience and quality, if you're not expecting omakase akin to those than run $150 per person. The skewer combo was also excellent! Service and food came out extremely fast. Alcoholic drinks are well priced. Beers are $6. Small bottle of Prosecco was $11. They only offer two cocktails but only $7 each, which is incredible for Boston. Plenty of high top and bar seating but will need reservation to guarantee a sit down table. Loved the ambience, decor, and vibes. Also a huge table of Japanese speaking folks sat next to us, which perhaps speaks to authenticity? Metered parking in front, Monday - Saturday 8a-8p.

Yelp
We enjoyed a lovely peri-Valentines day dinner here this year. The restaurant was spacious yet cozy and we tried the omakase for two which was excellent and refreshing. The sashimi was fresh and had a lovely buttery bite to it. As my boyfriend has a larger appetite we ordered some rolls on the side as well which were also great. For drinks I tried the greyhound which was standard but nothing extraordinary. Cocktails aside, would definitely recommend; we will be back!

Yelp
I found this gem while I was nearby. The prices was not bad at all. I tried a lot of the yaki tori. I had the scallop bacon, gizzards, chicken heart, chicken skin, teriyaki beef and pork belly. They were all really tender. My favorite was the bacon scallop. I also had sushi while I was there. We had the ginza, spicy salmon roll and otoro. I would rate their sushi a 3.5 out of 5. The ginza roll was on a bit sweet side for me. Their method of making spicy salmon was unusual and this is the first time I came across this method. Instead of chopping the salon into spicy sauce they put sauce on the seaweed with pieces of salmon. The otoro was bland for me but I couldn't complain about the price of it. $11 for 2 pieces. You would need to put some soy sauce onto the fish to give it some extra flavor. It does melt in your mouth like it supposed to do. Overall experience was a 4. Service was great, environment was nice and food was about a 4. I wish I had a bigger appetite so I could try more things.

Yelp
Mediocre food overall. Service was ok. Not sure about overall cleanness. Dishes especially beer glasses didn't seem to be so clean. Wouldn't go back.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place, as the exterior exudes a really inviting and authentic feeling of a Japanese izakaya. I came here on a whim on a Sunday night around 7pm as a party of two. While the outdoor seating was almost full, the inside was pretty much empty. Between the two of us we split the Chicken Karaage, Shinjuku Roll, Fried Pork Gyoza, and Chicken Teriyaki. I was initially disappointed because we ordered the Takoyaki, but were told it wasn't available. I enjoyed the sushi, gyoza, and karaage, but found the chicken teriyaki to be very dry, and the vegetables didn't look or taste particularly fresh. I'm not too inclined to come back aside from wanting to try more of their sushi, and potentially their omakase. As for the authenticity factor, I heard the employees speaking in Mandarin to one another so it's hard to say how authentic this place really is. Overall though, a good place for a casual meal with attentive service.

Yelp
Prices are reasonable. Food is fresh and tasty. With Shiki (in Coolidge Corner) closed for good, I'll have to make do with this lookalike Japanese restaurant that's operated and served by Chinese.

Yelp
This place has a lot of variety, and for those who are selective about what they eat, they should be able to find at least something. One can order many different kinds of food as the portion is small, and then try them all. In terms of food quality, it is pretty good, just not outstanding. When it comes to Japanese food here in the United States, sometimes one can feel like it tastes very similar no matter where one goes. My friends and I did not order a lot of dishes, but the one we got were solid. Next time I visit, I should give the Omakase for 2 a try to see if that will enhance my experience!

Yelp
A great Japanese restaurant in Brookline Village. I came here with a few friends on Saturday for lunch. The restaurant itself is split into two parts one with a bar area while the other side has more tables. We ordered a 3 maki combo, a katsu curry, and a bunch of skewers since that's what they're known for. We got crazy, eel avo, and tuna which were all made well. The katsu was crispy and light. The skewers were flavored nicely and some had sprinkled pepper flakes for an added spice. My favorite skewers were the oyster mushrooms and the crispy chicken skin. It was my first time trying chicken gizzard which surprisingly wasn't too bad. It has a crunchy texture with chicken flavoring. The service was good and we didn't have any issues. A nice addition to the food scene around Brookline.

Yelp
If you have to try one thing here, get the Omakase for 2! It's the best bang for your buck in trying fresh fish. If you're looking for rolls or other hot items, other places offer the same for price and taste. The Omakase was $65. Sushi isn't cheap here in Boston, so I would say this price point is a great value. This Omakase is a little different than your traditional one because everything is presented at once in a bento 9 grid tray. Along with the fish, this comes with 2 bowls of rice and 2 miso soups. I came with two others so we bulked up the meal with one yellowtail roll and a yakisoba. The entire meal was filling but I would say we were just satisfied but not super full. If we didn't get the yakisoba noodles I think we would still be hungry. Fish quality is really good! I looked at a couple Omakase photos and they looked identical so I'm not sure how often they swap out the dishes.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service. Food came out super quick and it felt super fresh. It was not super packed when we went (around 3:30pm on a Friday). Our favorite was the bacon scallop skewer (not pictured here). Definitely coming back!!

Yelp
Go-to spot for local sushi/izakaya. I've enjoyed everything I've had here, from the apps to the skewers to the various rolls. In particular, I'm a fan of the takoyaki and karaage for apps & chicken skin, pork belly, gizzard for skewers. I've gotten a broad range of the maki rolls and house special rolls and they're all pretty good for the price point. The shinjuku roll is pretty popular with my friends, if you have a hard time picking! The service isn't the fastest, but the plus side is that they won't rush you when you're done - a good place to catch up and hang out, as drinks are also well priced!

Yelp
I came here to try the infamous Omakase Set for 2. It was fun for its price ($68 total), but I'm not sure if it was much to wow me. The pieces didn't feel too fresh and reminded me of the texture that you get when sashimi has been frozen for some time and then thawed. Nevertheless, it's a fun set to share with friends. I also tried the Hotate Kaiyaki, which was a combination of scallop, fish roe, crab stick, mushrooms, and a mayo-cheese mix, which was also okay but nothing to rave about. Surprisingly, my favorite part of the meal was actually the Mai Tais, which are only $7(!) and pack a HUGE punch. If I were to ever come back, I would go for more of the small izakaya plates and order another round of those Mai Tais.

Yelp
I first tried this place a couple months ago and did not think the fish quality was that good, however I tried it again today and it was very good. It may depend on the day/time food is ordered. I ordered the lunch special (2 rolls).

Yelp
Hadn't heard of Omori Izakaya before, but finally was able to cross it off my partner's list. Had an enjoyable Friday night dinner of fried oysters, yakitori (chicken gizzard, pork belly, and squid), and omakase for two - TASTE: 4/5 - liked the fried oysters after a generous drizzle of lemon juice and the squid yakitori was super flavorful. Of the omakase, my favorites included the crab salad, octopus, and thick fatty tuna! TEXTURE: 4/5 - the fried oysters had a great crunch, and the gizzard had good texture. Again, the crab salad provided a nice refresher to the rest of the meal PRICE: 5/5 - I've never seen omakase for two for only $65! SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - reasonable portions for the price SERVICE: 4/5 - the space was relatively empty when we arrived at ~5pm, and we sat outside. Our two waiters were great PARKING: 4/5 - there were surprisingly many open metered parking spots along our two-block walk

Yelp
This is the 2nd time we visit this gem this fall. They provided fast service and the food did not disappoint. We ordered a few appetizers and sushi rolls, including the Bacon scallops, pork belly buns, seaweed salad, Ebisu roll and Boston maki, and mochis. We also had some cocktails (mai tai and Greyhound) which were better than i expected. I would say this is the perfect place to bring a date or a few friends to catch up. The music was not too loud, but it felt lively enough. This is currently one of my top Japanese spots in the city.
