The Best 10 Museum Restaurants in the World for Your Cultural Foodie Fix

"Located in the Pavillon Dufour at the Palace of Versailles, Ore by Alain Ducasse offers a café experience with a modern design, serving breakfast staples and transforming into an exclusive venue for gourmet dinners." - Guide MICHELIN

6 Best Day Trips from Paris

"The best part about dining here is that the experience is all Alain Ducasse in style and service, without the steep prices. The menu at Ore is a combination of gussied-up snacks like croque-monsieur, and thoughtful market-fresh dishes like spelt and wild mushroom salad, or steamed turbot with truffled hollandaise sauce, all priced to fit a range of wallets. Signature desserts, such as “Les Versaillaises,” offer lightened updates on French classics. Foreigners are likely to come here only if they're already planning to tour the Château—but it merits a special visit on its own. It's grand, as it should be, but accessible." - Lindsey Tramuta, Mary Winston Nicklin

Ore

"Ore means "mouth" in Latin. A disarmingly simple name for this place that is quite simply exceptional – a 17C pavilion within the Palace of Versailles. Alain Ducasse is the Sun King of the premises, enforcing the culinary law for which he is known. That of naturality and a constantly renewed homage to fine ingredients." - Michelin Inspector

Google
They were nice to find us a table without a reservation. The table overlooking the gold gate and square was nice. Food was good (onion soup, leeks/eel, lamb and pasta dish with truffles) were all prepared very nicely. Drinks came out slow and a tad sweet on all 3 different types of cocktails.

Erine Wilmoore

Google
The food was overpriced and of subpar quality (lamb was oke but the chicken real bad). The place and ambience were also below average, especially for a restaurant located inside Versailles. (Don't let Google Images fool you!) To make matters worse, we had to wait over an hour for our main courses to be served, even though the restaurant wasn't crowded and we had made a timed online reservation in advance. The waitstaff were unresponsive; I had to walk to the waiter station three times in the last 15 minutes to ask about my dish. Each time, the waiters kindly apologized and said they would check, but they never returned with an update on how long we would need to wait. I made three trips to the station: first, to inquire about the delay; second, to get a response; and third, to cancel our order because I wanted to explore other parts of the castle, and we wouldn't have enough time now. It was during this last trip that they rushed back to inform me it would be just five more minutes. An hour long and the foods weren't even great. 0 stars.

Google
Well we were in the Versailles Palace as I have made my booking with Ore as Angelina had a long queue. I was kind of scared with all the reviews complaining how they have been overcharged and the food was blend — that was all wrong, the food was delicious and we have a great service tbh. We got the lunch special with a starter and main and ordered another plate to share. W e picked the “Beans and Mint Velute” for starters and agreed to pay +10Euros for the “Lamb Breast with Jus” — both were delicious but the main dish was phenomenal. We also ordered a Burratina to share, it was good but nothing spectacular. All in all we probably had one of the best lamb dishes in a long time and the velute starte was refreshing on a hot day. We were promptly seated to our table even thought we arrived 30 minutes prior to our booking and the service was pretty solid - contrary to what other people have said. Our experience at Ore was a really good one. I wouldn’t go back all the way to Versailles to eat here but I wouldn’t definitely come back if I am visiting the palace. Thanks for hosting us.

Google
Eating inside the Palace of Versailles is an amazing experience, and you definitely pay for the incredible location. However, the food quality doesn't quite justify the price. What was truly disappointing was the extremely slow and almost rude service. Plates were practically thrown down. Go for the unique setting, but don't expect top-notch food or service.

Amy Green

Google
Service was extremely slow and we were wanting to go quickly to the tour. They did not give us our choices. I prebooked the 50 euro breakfast with tickets. Eggs were overcooked, unable to provide sausages, out of orange juice and it was frankly disappointing for the price of the breakfast. The bread basket was the highlight of the meal. Fantastic crossiant.

Quentin MARRE

Google
An embarrassingly run-down place that feels more like a forgotten backroom than a restaurant. Shabby furniture, loud music blaring from the kitchen — absolutely no attention to atmosphere. A place to avoid at all costs.

Google
Ore Ducasse has mastered the alchemy of transforming beloved French classics into extraordinary culinary moments. Whether you’re savoring the bold purity of their beef tartare or the decadent warmth of their Croque Monsieur, this is a restaurant that honors tradition while elevating it to new heights. For anyone seeking a taste of Parisian soul with a touch of refinement, Ore Ducasse is an absolute must-visit. Chapeau to the chefs—this is French dining at its most enchanting!

Google
It’s a shame that this restaurant is part of the palace of Versailles. We had the breakfast with entrance ticket. The breakfast was worse than a 3 star hotel’s continental breakfast. First, the service was like an ordinary cafe service, there were many servers with only 3 serving tables including us. We had to wait for a while to order and to receive a bill. The foods were terrible that hard to believe we dined in a restaurant beside the palace. The environment with lots of flies around us while we were eating. I bet their hygiene facilities failed. The whole experience was absolutely 0. I really wanted to dispute the money we paid if we could. The only benefit is entrance to the palace with no wait.

Yelp
Very classy place. Food is good . The staff is friendly and no wait. We have a 9 am appointment for breakfast and we were there on time. Service is fast and the place is classy.

Yelp
We asked the host for a table for two during lunch service. He asked us if we had reservations, although he wasn't asking the French guests who wanted a table whether they had reservations... Then he took us to a party room in the back with about 20 empty tables, some of them had not been bussed. We said no. In other words, if you are an American, do not eat here. Definitely not recommended.

Yelp
Reserved a 9am breakfast for 3 people in advance - very easy via their website. We arrived a few minutes late due to changes to the RER C train lines from Paris but were still greeted so nicely upon arrival by the hostess who confirmed our reservation and directed us upstairs to the dining room to be seated. We all had the "Le Grand Lever" for 45 euros per person which includes entrance to the Palace of Versailles. Everything was delicious. Note that the hot chocolate is very thick - it tasted/felt like straight up melted chocolate with a bit of cream - this is excellent for chocolate lovers. Once we were finished and settled the bill, we were given our Palace tickets and instructed where to go. It was a side entrance on the ground floor that got us right to the security screening, took no longer than 5 minutes to go through. I highly recommend this as a more relaxing and stress-less way to visit the Palace, since you will need to fuel up anyway if you're planning to tour the Palace and grounds. Thank you and merci beaucoup to everyone at Ore! Note that if you go, the entrance is on the left side of all the main Palace entrances - look for signage pointing you towards Ore. There's usually no line / no one waiting for Ore.

Yelp
Exceptional in every aspect as it should be for a restaurant housed at Versailles! What a wonderful way to end a day of touring. Atmosphere is gilded and beautiful with unique objects and features everywhere you look but not overdone or pretentious at all. Definitely book ahead. The price fix - basically 3 courses with amuse - was divine and they will make accommodations for dietary needs. Food was filling but not heavy and just great all around. The bread is to die for. Love that wine was included too. Loved it and highly recommend if in the area.

Yelp
Came to Chateau de Versailles today and got an invite for lunch here. It is a high end Michelin star French cuisine I was told. We ordered the tasting menu - 1 starter, 1 main and 1 dessert. Very very delicate and flavors were interesting. Love it. Especially love the Roasted guinea fowl, leg confit with jus, carrots and soft tops crushed. Highly recommend

Yelp
5 stars is not something I give out lightly and which is why Ore gets 4 stars. This place was recommended from a friend and I'd like to pass that recommendation- they were accommodating at peak lunch hour with no reservation we were seated immediately. It's beautiful and quiet with piano playing (perfect atmosphere!) The decoration (as the name suggests) is guilded in gold. All of the food was absolutely perfect. Here are some notes I took on the food itself! (Separated by if it is an appetizer, meal, or dessert) Egg and beans - it is indescribably perfect Foie gras - texture temperature flavor (everything) absolutely perfect Bread provided was a beautiful rustic country loaf Haddock- a sweet almost fruity flavor for the fish and the vegetable portion has very complex flavors highly recommend Pasta- creamy , flavor explosion highly recommend Souflee- fantastic souflee full but airy Chocolate cake- extremely rich Raspberry- good served with matcha ice cream I actually was almost finished writing a perfect review for this place and then the server asked us to tip I know good service isn't French people's strong suit and I wasn't even going to complain about it but the audacity to provide mediocre service and then ask for a tip in a country where tipping is not the norm is mind boggling to me- feels like taking advantage of Americans knowing if they ask us we will tip. with the exception of the service 5 stars.

Yelp
For our trip to Versailles, we decided to splurge on the nicer restaurant within the chateau. We had reservations for our party of 8 (4 kids, 4 adults). It is a very nice place, and the service was very good. Our food was good, and it was a nice treat to be right there in the middle of the chateau. There are certainly less expensive options in the chateau, but this was a fun thing to splurge on and helped us all rest and enjoy the remainder of our afternoon at Verstailles.

Yelp
Why creating 3 lines, based on time, but end up in one entrance with one person checking the ticket? Such a bad planner. No sign indicating what line for what hour and the personnel there cannot even control the line or tell people in queue to go to the right line before they stand in line for 15 mins or so then tell us we in the wrong line.
google avatar

Yunmi J.

Yelp
Great location, with good food! I highly recommend to try Beef tartare. My husband and I had many beef tartare dishes in Paris, but this place was winner. If you visit versailles and want to make special memory in the place, try this place :) We satisfied all courses, but service?... I can't say it's best. But they did thier best I guess..
google avatar

Lam N.

Yelp
Great location within the Château gates. This being a Ducasse eatery, service is extremely smooth (although some staff members look so young you wonder if they're under age?) and prices are steep. Food is an attempt to elevate ordinary fare. The result? Good and interesting, but definitely not a place you would go to for gastronomic enjoyment. It's just convenient a-t-il for a visit to the château.
google avatar

Yelp
An upscale restaurant that is open during lunch hours only. I would recommend a reservation if you were to visit. The food is not bad. I arrived for a late lunch at around 1:30 PM or so and they only had one table open. We were able to get seated after a few minutes of wait. Definitely, make a reservation. My friend and I tried the following items: cheese board (14 euros), hot chocolate (7 euros), sea scallop (30 euros), and chicken breast (26 euros). The hot chocolate was the highlight, as it should be! So smooth and rich. Generous serving size. The sea scallop was okay, but expensive for the amount of the food served. The cheese board was also excellent! Try it! If you were a tourist, I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are visiting Versailles. I saw some locals celebrating special occasions at this place and get seated next to the window for the view. Clean single stall bathroom in the back. Hand dryer only.

Yelp
Best-kept secret of Versailles! Excellent food, great views, spectacular service and ambiance. You may want to start your visit to the insanity that Versailles is... with a breakfast at Ore.

Jenny P.

Yelp
I made a reservation for breakfast at Ore several weeks in advance. I received an email asking me to confirm my reservation, which I did and was very excited to eat there. This morning I took a $40 Uber from Paris to Versailles just to find out the palace and restaurant are closed because of prescheduled protests. I'm not faulting the restaurant for the protests but I do wish the restaurant would have sent me an email or text message telling me they would be closed. A total waste of time and money for me.

Yelp
DEFINITELY TRY THIS PLACE OUT!!!!! My friend and I were starving after our visit to the Versailles palace. This was conveniently located right at the exit and by the palace. I was a bit weary because I thought it was a tourist trap, but this place was amazing!! First off, the atmosphere is great. The lighting and the amount of windows at this restaurant definitely make you feel like you are dining at a nice place. It's very bright and has a very summer-y vibe! My friend ordered the pasta and I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich. The pasta is REALLY GOOD! If you like truffle you will definitely enjoy this dish! It's basically like macaroni and cheese (but a lot less cheese-y) with truffle. SO GOOD. The ham and cheese sandwich was pretty standard and I had no complaints but again it was like a very typical sandwich. We also ordered the lime soufflé which was a great end to the meal. It takes a bit of wait time to make though, and the waiter will warn you about this. The ice cream on the side was a bit too sour, but the actual soufflé was heavenly. If you're looking for a place near the Versailles palace, check this place out and you will not be disappointed !!!!

Yelp
Quite abrupt service, mediocre food. Ambience nice & quiet. Would not recommend, try elsewhere after your visit to Versailles
google avatar

Sandra K.

Yelp
How often can you say you dined inside Versailles? I came here through the Viator tours which I believe is the best way to skip the line in Versailles. The menu was fixed, but came with a basket of 6 hot pastries (!!!), coffee, juice or tea, followed by a plate of organic eggs your way and sausage. Simply done, but delicious and kind servers too. I definitely recommend to make your trip to the palace even more memorable (and way easier) too!
google avatar

Benjamin K.

Yelp
Modern bistro inside the Chateau. By Ducasse. Of course, not cheap, but if you're there, and can afford it, splurge. Food is excellent and during weekdays, the lunch menu is a steal. Call ahead to reserve your table if you can. The steack tartare + chocolate soufflé was a great combo.
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars isn't enough. Ore provided exactly what we needed: a good breakfast before Versailles, our tickets to the palace were included in the price of the meal, and most importantly--expedited admission. For the view and novelty alone I would I recommend. I see people rating this like a normal restaurant, but it's not a normal restaurant. It's a novelty restaurant for those that want to eat at Versailles then visit the palace. I wouldn't come here without a palace tour on the agenda. As to the food, portions were appropriate and taste was excellent. Service was exceptional too, for a low-season visit in December. Expedited admission through a special line was nice on our visit but would be invaluable during the busy season. Worth much more than the price charged to avoid waiting outside for hours.
google avatar

Joanne Y.

Yelp
Definitely came by here out of convenience to grab a bite to eat before spending hours visiting the Palace of Versailles. The interior was swanky, but definitely empty in the morning for breakfast. We ordered the a la carte breakfast meal, which came with eggs, sausage, tomatoes, bread and coffee. The meal itself did not taste bad, but I think the portion and price ratio was definitely off. But that's what you get I guess for dining at a tourist spot.

Ethan P.

Yelp
This place is perfectly positioned for a great lunch after a long walk through the gardens of Versailles. The salmon was light and my friend who ordered a croquet Monsieur was well pleased. The hot chocolate is to die for the best I've ever had. If nothing else come for the hot chocolate it is unparalleled.
google avatar

Lara S.

Yelp
We wandered into Ore reluctantly, hungry, but not in the mood for anything fancy after a long day spent exploring Versailles. Let me tell you, Ore turned out to be one of my favorite restaurants of the trip. The space is beautiful, very elegant, but the crisp service is warm and it relaxed. And the food was heavenly! I had the coquillettes with ham cheese. Such a simple preparation, but rich and full of flavor. Lunch entrees were reasonably priced, by the way.
google avatar

Raj K.

Yelp
We ordered the Croque Monsieur & Steak + Foie gras. Then Cappuccinos w Paris- Versailles Everything was excellent!

Yelp
Came here because we've seen Chef Ducasse on different tv shows such as Chef's Table. Maybe I had a bit too high of expectation for this place, but now looking back, we shouldn't have expected to much from the place based on the location and price (seems too cheap for a restaurant facing the court yard of Versailles). Hostess was the best part of the whole experience. The elevator led led you to "premier etage" (1st floor). From there, we encountered 4 staff (one seated us, one took our wine order, one brought us the wine, and one took our food order.) Here's the interesting part: we ordered the wine but the wrong year of it was brought and we were told they "didn't have the 2011, only the 2013." Uhhh... okay... maybe time to update the wine list... The staff who took our food order could barely explain the food other than "it's vegetable, green vegetable and red vegetable". I understand we shouldn't expect everyone to speak English (that would be rude and disrespectful) but if there is a word you can't translate, maybe it's a good idea checking with your colleague to avoid issues such as food allergy... and google translation won't work here as the menu doesn't provide much detail. Throughout lunch, no one ever came to refill our wine. I'm not sure if they don't pour your wine here or we were just neglected. Food was good but not great. We got hake and pasta with truffle. I love truffle with mac & cheese which is similar to the pasta we got, an I actually prefer the version here since it's light and not extremely greasy while still giving you that truffle mac & cheese idea. Will we come back again?! Probably not. There are a few other restaurant options at Versailles that I'd rather check out.

Yelp
Be sure to make a reservation at Ore if you are planning a trip to the Palace of Versailles! Upon the completion of your meal, the restaurant staff will guide you to a special entrance to the palace which will help you skip the crazy queue( saved us hours of waiting outside in the freezing weather) ! This is my second time at an Alain Ducasse restaurant. My first Alain Ducasse dining experience was at the one Michelin starred Spoon by Alain Ducasse ( Hong Kong) and I wasn't too impressed. But this time I was pleasantly surprised! Food: croque monsieur: a modern take of the classic dish, and I loved it! It reminds me of the bikini sandwich I had at Catalunya( Hong Kong). Steak tartare: delicious!!!! The garlic crisps went really well with it Soufflé: its texture was A LOT better than the ones we had at Soufflé- the famous Soufflé restaurant in Paris Ambiance: high ceiling, sophisticated, bright

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation, but for two for a late lunch they slipped us in. Its fabulous food and a relaxing setting amidst the thousands of tourists at Chateau de Versailles. With a nice bottle of white bourgogne wine we had a house salad (hers) and a great chicken dish on corn-fed chicken breast, red kuri squash, and chestnut (mine). Loved it. Highly recommended if you're making the trip to Versailles on your own.
google avatar

Yelp
We were so glad we stumbled onto Ore and have it as our only meal at Versailles! We didn't know that star chef Alain Ducasse opened a restaurant in the Dufour Pavilion at Versailles but boy were we impressed! After a long day walking around Versailles Palace, the gardens, including the Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon, we were totally exhausted and hungry! We found two food options while still within the Gates of the Court of Honour, a cafe and a sit down restaurant named Ore. When looking at the menu prior to entering we were impressed by the lower than expected prices. Once in the restaurant, the decor was a welcome sight. We already seen the opulence in Versailles and Ore's decorations were simple yet elegant. For lunch, my wife had the fillet of beef with foie gras and Anna potatoes. I got the coddled eggs with foie gras and spinach. We shared some bites of each other's dishes and we came to the same conclusions. The fillet of beef was phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection and beyond any steakhouse we had ever been to. My coddled eggs were also cooked to perfection and you could see the attention to detail in making this perfect in my egg. I personally loved my coddled eggs more and she liked her fillet more but if we switched, I would still be ecstatic. Service was perfect and attentive but not too bothersome. Overall, Ore doesn't try to match or overshadow Versailles Palace and that's perfect.

Yelp
Alain Ducasse is one of the chefs in France who can slap his name onto anything and it will make money, though there's plenty to recommend this cafe. It's actually located within the Chateau of Versailles itself, and will provide you with a great view of the forecourt, and the long snaking lines of people who didn't buy a museum pass or a private apartments tour and as such, are stuck in rain or sun. The prices aren't as outrageous as you might think, and while the service is quite typically French (ask for your cheque 20 minutes before you need it), the views are decor are lovely.
google avatar

Zena M.

Yelp
Had a great breakfast here and used a deal through viator I high came with breakfast and skip the line access to Versailles. It was beautiful being able to eat and see the historic palace we were treated like royalty the whole day. We had a standard breakfast that came with a pastry assortment, eggs, tomatoes and sausages, tea/ coffee// and juice. Everything was tasty and delicious if I go back to Paris will def do this again
google avatar

Keely V.

Yelp
The food was OK-good but the service was terrible. Not sure if no wait staff was assigned to our table or if they were just hoping we'd leave, but we had to wave the waitress down multiple times for them to even give us service, take our order and bring a dessert menu. Only time I didn't leave a tip for a meal in France. Update: I actually edited this review down from a 3 to a 2 because it took 30 minutes to get our check and, again, we had to flag the waitress down to get it.
google avatar

Yelp
The main reason why my friends and I decided to eat breakfast at this restaurant upon our descent past the gates of Chateau de Versailles was to skip the lines and get direct entry into the Chateau for a total of 40 euros. You pay to have breakfast here and you automatically get to bypass the long lines that grow pretty long as the sun rises higher and higher in the sky. We enjoyed a nice breakfast selection of coffee, orange juice, a selection of pastries, pan-fried eggs, and sausages by a window that overlooked the lines. Everything, to follow the theme of the chateau, was plated with gold and very elegant. Once you're done with your breakfast, they'll give you your tickets and when you take the elevator back down to the ground floor, ask the lady right outside the elevators to bring you through the direct access door which is about 5-10 minutes from the security checkpoint. Don't walk back outside and ask where the direct access door is because they'll try to get you to line up at the general admission door.
google avatar

J. Karim A.

Yelp
My fiancé and I had just got engaged in the garden when we went for lunch before viewing the apartments. Lunch was good. Not amazing but solid and you then get to skip the hour plus line into the chateau. It's pretty cool to have lunch in the chateau. Reasonably priced.
google avatar

Peter Sterling T.

Yelp
Pretentious and inattentive staff. Salmon overcooked after requesting Medium Rare to Rare. Had to ask for water service twice. Obviously they know they are getting the business and don't care.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Great breakfast in a beautiful setting. The staff are very friendly and well dressed. I felt like a King dining here! Being able to skip the line and being ushered into the palace was epic! Thanks to everyone at Ore!
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant inside the palace of Versailles. Portions are small but tasty with very good presentation. Desserts are amazing!
google avatar

Christopher F.

Yelp
This museum is free to the public which is always a plus. But really, it is a nice overview of royal carriages. There are several on display as well as some short films. It also has a funeral hearse. You can see it all in 20-30 minutes. I would highly recommend it.
google avatar

Steve And Me D.

Yelp
Excellent way to start the visit (breakfast) and worth the extra money to skip the lines. Nice decor, decent views, solid food. And a special entrance ahead of the bulk of visitors.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
seems like you usually have to make a reservation here, but we got lucky and got a table around 1130 (the key to visiting Versailles in general is beating the crowd everywhere, get there a little before 9, be among the first to the hall of mirrors and gardens, then eat). food was fantastic, they have a great lunch special for 22€ you get a sandwich and excellent sorbet. but service was very slow so be prepared to be there an hour. really fun way to end your stop at Versailles tho since it is on the grounds. way better than the other options around.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
This place was okay, but it's a place where I just couldn't get past the price. It's rather obscene for what you get. Rather than here, I strongly urge going to the eatery in the gardens. The hot chocolate here was also like syrup, way too thick.

Danilea K.

Yelp
I had the worst experience at this joint. Their prices are not cheap, but that is expected for a restaurant situated at such touristic place, so I am ok with that. What they failed with is the quality of food and service. The food is really terrible! The meats are super tiny, and there is no flavor whatsoever. I don't expect some gourmet meal, but at least a descent meal for the price. The service is as bad or worse. Our server never checked on us and whenever we needed something, she acted annoyed. It's too bad because the palace, although very crowded, is such a beautiful experience, and this place kind of ruined the whole experience. DON'T EAT HERE!
google avatar

Brianna B.

Yelp
This was a delicious lunch stop after our tour of Versailles. Service was great, and our meal of croque monsieur and cheese plate was delicious. Servings are small and prices are steep, but now we can say we've dined in the palace of Versailles!

Tammy P.

Yelp
Maybe I was expecting too much because it is a Ducasse restaurant, I mean the guy has a place in the Eiffel Tower AND Versailles? He just needs a location at Disneyland Paris and then he will own France. Overall, I found the food to be okay. I'm not even miffed I paid 28 euro for four pieces of asparagus with hollandaise (it was some damn good hollandaise). Entrees were unmemorable as I had the steak and my husband had tartare. We skipped dessert and got a cheese plate instead (could have been better). A nice break from the crowd at Versailles and they let you skip the entry line which *almost* makes it worth it.

Linda F.

Yelp
The signature salad was very good but it was dripping wet in salad dressing. The waiter seemed to have forgotten our order, and us. Considering the price I hope to not be ignored for 45+minutes and main course forgotten about. Clearly, there are not many options in the area. Save your appetite for a garden restaurant.
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
Ore is a fantastic addition to Versailles. The juxtaposition of it's modern sophisticated interior against Versailles noble stature is refreshing. We started with a medley of raw and cooked vegetables, that was unbelievably fresh. Next, a roast chicken sandwich with eggplant, and finished with a lemon/lime tart. The staff were very professional and welcoming. We ate after touring the grounds, but if you eat first, you bypass the lines and go right in. I highly recommend Ore.

Yelp
The atmosphere was not welcoming but the staff was. Once a party with, apparently, some famous people arrived however, we were mostly forgotten. We were offered a dessert menu before we even received our entrees. The food was good but the poor service just about ruined it!

Yelp
Perfect place to end a tour of Versailles. Amazing light and sophisticated fare right on the grounds where French kings would hold court. Croque monsieur elevated a simple toasted ham & cheese sandwich to fine dining. Bottle of Margaux was nice too.

Yelp
Pro: I ate fois gras at Versailles. It was delicious, and not crazy expensive. My napkin was folded like a lotus, just like the cool ones in one of the exhibits. Also, free wifi. While they initially told me I couldn't have just the fois gras (a lunch menu item) because it was the afternoon (menu for which included steak with fois gras) the waitress checked with the chef, and they let me order the smaller item. Cons: They forgot to bring me my wine. They tried to open a bottle of Evian after I said I wanted tap water. After I got the carafe of water, it was another couple of minutes before they brought me a glass. I showed up at 1710 when they were closing at 1730 (watch for shorter hours in the low season) and got what seemed to be the tail end of the bread basket. One piece of good whole wheat, one piece that was a little dry, and an inexplicable one inch square shard of white bread. I think the staff was mentally already out the door. But this is a fancy place, repeated service screw ups are not ok. That said, my snack was tasty. I don't regret stopping for it, and I'd probably visit again if I was at Versailles. But I would go for lunch.

Yelp
Totally anti-climactic. My mom and I had reservations for Marie Antoinette Tea time and when we came they sat us near the kitchen with open space available. We had to remind them to move us to a different table and remind them we needed tea for the tea time? The ambiance is like a cafeteria with screaming babies inside. We ordered champagne and they just left it for us to pour. For the amount of money we spent it is a total disappointment.
