Orochon Ramen [3.5 Stars]: A Convenient Choice for Hearty Ramen in Little Tokyo #NarcisoA634
I visited Orochon Ramen during the Oshugatsu Festival in Little Tokyo. The use of a Yelp kiosk for virtual queuing was a welcome touch of technology, making the wait short and efficient.
The restaurant, located on the 3rd floor of a slightly worn strip mall, offered a surprisingly nice view from where we sat. Opting to share a giant bowl of Miso soup with extra ramen, fried tofu, and Chasiu pork turned out to be a wise decision, leaving both my wife and me satisfyingly full.
The soup itself was good, albeit lacking the complexity and variety I've come to expect from Japanese ramen. The broth was thankfully not too salty, and while the meat was tender, it was sparse. The service was quick and unobtrusive, fitting the informal setting.
At just under $30 for the shared bowl including tax and tip, the value was quite reasonable. While Orochon Ramen might not be a destination in itself, it's a solid choice if you find yourself in the area with a craving for a sizable, no-frills ramen bowl.
