"Macellaio RC does incredibly tender, Italian-style steaks cooked simply on a hot grill and served with just a bit of rock salt and olive oil. It’s unlikely that you’ll be popping in for a casual lunch that often, but it’s good for a payday throw-down or low-key celebration (like getting a tiny raise you wish to spend on steak). The menu also features excellent cicchetti as well as good pastas, all of which you should order." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Rianne Shlebak, Sinead Cranna

"The Union Street branch of Macellaio RC, which makes up part of Roberto Costa’s steakhouse group, doesn’t quite fit the blueprint of local Italian restaurants with their pasta-centric menus. But it is very much an Italian restaurant, with a prominent focus on exceptional Italian produce. Costa is well aware that Fassona beef from Piedmont is some of the best in the world, and is without the high prices of Kobe wagyu. For what’s easily one of the best steaks in London, go for the Fiorentina to be shared between two. The restaurant also offers a great selection of well-prepared offal dishes, if that’s your thing." - Jonathan Hatchman

We had a great experience here. Meat is the main theme and it is outrageous. They bring the meat to your table so you can select the piece you want. The tapas are tasty too. We shared the buffalo mozzarella, pasta, rice balls, cheese bread, beef carpaccio, steak and bread with a lard candle. It was a very unique experience and just lovely. Worth a try!

Having dinner here do the first time. Cozy environment, we choose a few course from their tapas menu to share, all taste good. Especially love their chicken liver pate and the pizza, very crispy and taste original. They also have steak and big chop offered which are very attractive too but since we are not very hungry so we skip it. Highly recommend their tiramisu too!

Such a treat to come back here, they are still amazing. Insanely tasty dishes, great service, light and airy venue with sumptuous wines. Pretty much perfect! Would highly recommend their specialty Focaccia, which is unlike anything you've had before!

Wow, that's an amazing restaurant. Reminded me of a visit to Florence, when they bring you the steak before they start cooking it. TBone steak was cooked to perfection. Also make sure that you order their focaccia with cheese, it's nothing like a regular focaccia. Also, very good wine, would recommend the Primitivo. The place is not cheap, but also not super expensive. The steak on the picture cost 60GBP, and it could be enough for 3 people, or two very hungry ones. In total, it was 120GBP for two including tip. Would definitely return.

Best steak and best fillet in London and probably in UK. Roberto Costa has perfected the art of cooking and serving meat with an incomparable taste, texture and flavour. Just add a few grains of crushed salt if you like and some drops of extra virgin olive oil and it is heaven. Thanks for the unforgettable experience. Hope they will soon provide acoustical ceiling because the only flaw i could find was a very loud and rather disturbing background noise.

Firstly the food was excellent especially the meat (I'd have been very disappointed if this wasn't the case seeing the build up and the reputation of this place). We did the butchery masterclass which was very interesting and informative and all the staff were very friendly and attentive. Comments about the upstairs area being very warm are not entirely inaccurate but exaggerated. Wear layers and its perfectly comfortable. We had ravioli, then the rib eye steak followed by a basil panna cotta which was really unusual and unexpectedly delicious. Overall a very enjoyable and pleasant evening and a great dinner. By the way, a part of the wine list shows wines going from rare to well done. This represents how full bodied the wine is and not recommendations of which wines will pair with how your steak is cooked. A slightly confusing play on words.

I’m surprised this place is not more busy - perhaps it’s the day of the week that we came (Friday with a few other tabletops and a Sunday where we were the only one) or location because we’ve been to their other location in Shoreditch and it was a struggle to get a table on a normal day. £11 per small plate but if you get some of the pasta plates, it’s decently filling. Wines were a bit pricey (£36 and up a bottle or £6 and up for 125mL) but overall good place to hang out. And the steak to the table was a nice option if you’re feeling hungry although it might be a more expensive night.

We had a lovely early evening birthday dinner for two at Macellaio RC. The food was delicious, especially the meat. We went for the British bone-in ribeye, the service was attentive, especially when we arrived, and we felt well taken care of. Would recommend!
