Osteria Restaurant : Shrimp and Scallops: A Dish Served with One Scallop, Ample Servings of Disrespect, Blended Purposefully with Condemnation and Humiliation; and Garnished with Dashes of Racism and Sexism.
My dining experience, April 9th at Osteria Restaurant on Westover Terrace, vividly and unmistakably showed me you can call anything a fine dining experience; rate it four or five stars; be served a dish that is clearly misrepresented and overpriced; and then be expected NOT to voice a complaint.
TAGLIOLINI SCAMPI $22
My meal arrived with (4) shrimp and (1) scallop. The menu descriptions reads: "Shrimp, Scallops, White Wine, Lemon Butter Sauce"
My initial comments to my server expressed my disappointment with the ( 1 scallop). I asked the server if I could possibly get more scallops. I even asked if I could pay for an extra serving. This is not an uncommon practice in most restaurants. However, this server seemed bewildered and completely thrown off by what I was asking. She responded, "let me see what I can do"; Obviously she could not rectify the situation herself. She left the table and I suspected she was going to check to see how the matter could be resolved.

(1): It took more than 15 minutes from the time the server left the table, before she returned with the manager. My two friends who were at the table had already finished their meal when he finally arrived.
You may draw your own conclusions to his sense of urgency!
(2): When the manager, came to the table, he seemed annoyed. Instead of greeting the table with a "hello", he began with, "What is the problem over here?"
What follows is the dialog as captured by myself and my two friends who witnessed and experienced this travesty.
I said: "I ordered the shrimp and scallops pasta. It came out with (4) shrimp and (1) scallop.
Manager responded, clearly annoyed, "ok, so what's the problem?
I said: "I would like more than (1) scallop.
Manager: "What's the problem? You got a scallop."
I said: " It's a misrepresentation of the description of the meal. Why would you only give (1) scallop and (4) shrimp in a shrimp and scallops (PLURAL) pasta dish?"
The manager began to patronize me, calling me "darling" and then said: "Darling, you got your food!"
I responded: "I'm not your darling. My name is Angela."
The manager then went on a tirade: "Angela, if I bring you more scallops then you'll want something's else, and then something else, and then something else......".
At this time he's waving his hands in the air saying: " This my home! Don't disrespect me in my home!" My two friends were just as horrified and traumatized as I was over this exchange,
I could see this was not going to be resolved in a professional manner. I decided at that point to refuse the dish; I never took a bite. And I asked him to take it back. He immediately said, " You're going to pay for it."
I said, "no I am not! I never took a bite."
I got up, from the table, left cash for the drink I ordered and left the restaurant.
When my friends settled their checks and came outside, they told me the Manager TOSSED the "to go" box and bill on the table.
They said the server at the table was visibly shaking. While others in back were trying to calm him down. My two friends even tried to tell him, " all my friend wanted was to get more scallops and she was willing to pay for them!"
To that he yelled at them saying, "This is my home. I'm trying to feed my family!"
To conclude, I'm not a novice to the food and hospitality sector. I have worked at several fine dining establishments under the Quaintence Weaver Corporation: Print Works Bistro and Green Valley Grill. I was WELL trained by those establishments so I know a thing or two about how to treat patrons and resolve serving issues.
To clarify my opening comments, let me just say. I was the only African American female dining AND I did not see any African Americans working in the restaurant at that time. My two friends are Caucasian. I saw no one else in the restaurant that looked like me. So I can only draw the obvious conclusion for his behavior.
I've been told, "a picture is worth 1000 words. So you draw your own conclusions about this experience!!!!!!

Again I say, ". A Dish Served with One Scallop, Ample Servings of Disrespect, Blended Purposefully with Condemnation and Humiliation; Garnished with Dashes of Racism and Sexism.Manager
