A Perfect Saturday Brunch at Osteria Radisa
I was wandering around Carroll Gardens on a Saturday morning and stumbled upon the gorgeous butter-yellow facade of Osteria Radisa. Expressing my curiosity about the restaurant, I was welcomed by the friendly staff and offered a seat at the bar while I perused the menu. The bartender introduced themselves to me by name, making me feel right at home and more than welcome. You could tell the servers and staff enjoyed working there as much as the patrons enjoyed eating there. It wasn’t overly busy, but the energy in the restaurant was reminiscent of my own breakfast table growing up with a big family. Bright, warm, vivacious, and full of love.
That loving energy continued as I considered the menu with my server. After telling her I wanted a combo of sweet and savory, she made her recommendations. The Bombolocini basket with cherry marmaletta for my sweet tooth, the Parma Cotto Benedict as my true meal, and then after expressing my love for giardiniera to my server — she said I MUST try their potato salad. I was sold.
The bartender made me a perfect cappuccino, which paired delightfully with the bombolocini that came out hot and FRESH. Mini donuts with the perfect cherry marmelleta to cut through the sweetness with bright flavor. I was already blissful, enjoying my treat and my coffee, and I thought this can’t get any better. But then it did.
The most gorgeous plate of Eggs Benedict arrived before me. I am VERY particular about my Benedict, specifically when the hollaondaise is just… not right. That was not the case at Radisa. A beautifully buttery and light hollandaise encased the perfectly poached egg atop a GENEROUS pile of salty and yummy Parma cotto. But the pièce de résistance is the house made ciabatta it all towers on top of. The perfect, warm and crispy, but SO soft on the inside ciabatta pulled this perfect Benedict together and I was in heaven.
Finally, the CRISPY potatoes on the side became my ideal vehicle to scoop up the incredible Giardiniera potato salad. Just when I thought I may have ordered a bit too heavy for brunch, I took a refreshing bite of the herby salad on the side and my palate was cleansed and ready for more, more, more.
There were so many perfect things about my meal. I certainly had leftovers to bring home from their generous portions (which I find can be hard to come by in the city sometimes!) I can’t wait to bring friends with me next time so I can get to try and enjoy even more on their menu. Particularly their dinner menu which my server was kind enough to give me a look at. Overall, the experience is what makes it special. It has the look, design, and service of upscale fine dining, but the feel was that of a family restaurant. And I felt right at home. ❤️
