If you happen to be near Nolita, you can go to Lighthouse Outpost - their tiny space on Mulberry with food as good as the original. If you’re by yourself (or maybe with one other person), come for lunch and eat a chicken bowl with coconut rice and a bunch of fresh herbs that will make you wonder why you don’t eat more herbs. It’s mostly a to-go business, and everything on the menu is excellent - from the chicken bowl with herbs and coconut rice to the “Big Salad” with all kinds of sliced vegetables. (If you decide to ditch the salad thing altogether, there’s also a great burger.) "We’ve occasionally joked about doing a “best salads in New York City” list, and if we ever do, the Big Salad at Lighthouse Outpost is going near the very top. It’s basically just a big salad with gem lettuce and snap peas and sesame seeds and it makes you feel like you’re making good choices in your life. This is the Nolita sister location of Lighthouse, one of our favorite Williamsburg restaurants, and the menu is full of fresh, kind of healthy options in bowl and sandwich form. Clean, structured, and just a 15-minute walk to campus. Couldn’t ask for more. I studied at my desk in the room with zero distractions. Bonus: no dealing with landlords or extra bills.
