We were a group of four with a 5:30 reservation ahead of a 7:30 concert across the street. We were on time for the reservation and were seated immediately. So far so good!
We noticed there was one large group already there (maybe eight people?) but on either side of us there were groups of four. The restaurant is pretty small, so even though it was full, there weren't a lot of people. The tables next to us were already eating their meals so we peaked to see show things looked.
But after about 15 minutes passed, we still hadn't even had our drink orders taken. We also noticed we had been given lunch menus, so we flagged down a server to ask about the menus and to get our drink orders in. The server came back and said we could order from the lunch menu, but we said we just wanted to make sure we were getting to see everything available and she said yes, it's basically the same menu.
We received our drinks half an hour after being seated. The Basil Bee was great, all the things I like, Gin, honey, lemon, basil - very nice. My husband had a ginger beer, and our friends had a nice glass of Chardonnay and a good old fashioned.
We ordered our meals, but found out two of us wanting the pastrami sandwich - which was on the lunch menu we were given - were out of luck, it was not available for dinner, so we both had to change quickly as our two hours was melting away.
We still had an hour and a half before the concert across the street, but then after another thirty minutes went by, we just received our appetizer which was a small pizza with garlic and maybe a balsamic drizzle, our friend ordered it so I'm not sure exactly what was on it, but it was good and we wolfed it down. We waited another 30 minutes plus before our entrees arrived. We had thirty minutes to eat, pay, and run across the street.
The beet and tangerine salad was fresh and delicious - what a great medley of flavors! The French Onion Soup was such a mess, it became a novelty trying to eat it at all. What I managed to get to was delicious, but it was too complicated with the little time we had left. My husband got the meatloaf and loved it, I snuck one bite and was jealous - he cleaned his plate! One of our friends had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup which they did make sure was still available off the lunch menu. Our other friend got a pepperoni pizza (quick decision since no pastrami) and the crust was quite charred and had puffed up enough that all the toppings went to the middle and he really just ate the middle instead of the big ring of charred crust.
This could be a really good place, but the service was so slow even for a simple group of four with a reservation two hours before our concert. If they can't turn over the tables a bit faster, I don't see how they will make enough money. I won't go back as a pre-event destination which is a shame because they are located to serve that kind of crowd. The servers we had were super nice and polite, unfortunately the entire experience was just too slow and we were late to the show.
