The 16 Best Coffee Shops In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Close your eyes and picture a small coffee shop in Marfa filled with desert plants and sandy earth tones, and it probably looks a lot like Palomino Coffee on East 12th Street. It's one of our favorite coffee shops based on aesthetics alone, but this isn’t a guide to the “prettiest coffee shops in Austin.” The rest of the reasons to visit are simple: house-roasted beans, great espresso, and a short menu of seasonal drinks to help you remember what month it is when the Austin climate is confused. You can also pick up palo santo from the small marketplace up front to really lean into the West Texas aesthetic." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

We were visiting Austin from the east coast and this is one of the coolest coffee shops I have ever seen. I love how they leaned into the southwest aesthetic and the organic material of the interior design is so refreshing and beautiful. The espresso drinks were really well done as well. The shop is an open concept layout so there’s not as much seating in that space but no one who came in wasn’t able to find a spot. Such a beautiful interior, which is an integral part of the allure of a successful coffee shop. They are also dog friendly which was so fun!!!

I had a wonderful matcha and worked here for several hours. It was such a nice atmosphere in a great location. I will definitely be coming back next time I am in town.

Google
This place is awesome, I’ve gone here three days in a row to work on finals and here is what I have to say: - Matcha Latte : one of the better spots for matcha, it is very muted here so you definitely like it more towards the end. They also don’t go too hard on syrups so it’s never too sweet (sometimes you can barely taste the syrup at all). I like the hot version of this one more than iced here. I really enjoyed it with the vanilla syrup, but my boyfriend is a bigger fan of the lavender. - Blueberry Latte: I was very surprised about this one. You get hints of blueberry so it’s not overpowering and again, at first you aren’t sure but as you keep drinking it gets better. I really enjoyed this one iced. -Cardamom Mocha: I’ve had this one in Mexico so I was pleasantly surprised by how strong the flavor for this is, especially when you compare it to how muted most drinks are. They also have just the latte which I have yet to try. I had it iced and it was really good, I do think this is one that would taste better warm. Like most mochas, it might be a little grainy towards the end but I didn’t have a problem with it. - Earl Grey Special: I can’t remember the exact name of this drink but it’s one of their seasonal lattes. My boyfriend had it warm and it’s definitely a stronger flavor, not too sweet. - pistachio donut: I will forever dream about this. I think it was seasonal so it wasn’t there anymore on my third trip but I wish so badly it was. - pecan cinnamon roll: amazing - coffee cake: tasted great, it was dry to me but boyfriend said it was perfect. It’s also vegan so that may be a bonus. - cost: I’ve been to a lot of Austin coffee shops and this place is actually pretty fair. I’d say it’s in the middle (about $8 for a 16oz) I’ve seen coffees that are around $13 which is when it gets too excessive in my opinion. - Service: everyone here is super nice and there is free wifi - vibe: I love the decor, it reminds me of Spain. I think this is a lesser known cafe for now because it’s usually pretty relaxed throughout the day which makes it a very nice study spot. I’ve also never had a problem finding an outlet.

If you’re a coffee lover or just someone looking for a peaceful spot to chill, Palomino Coffee is a gem you have to check out. The space has such a warm, inviting vibe — clean, airy, and beautifully designed with desert-inspired décor that gives it a modern yet earthy feel. I ordered the Rosemary Latte, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor was unique but perfectly balanced — smooth, aromatic, and comforting with just the right hint of rosemary. You can tell they take their drinks seriously and put thought into every cup. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the whole environment felt relaxed — no rush, no pressure. There’s plenty of parking, which is such a plus in Austin, and honestly, even after I finished my coffee, I didn’t want to leave. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger, whether you’re working, catching up with a friend, or just enjoying the vibe. Photos speak for themselves — this place is a total vibe

Ordered a flat white and a matcha latte, both were solid overall but neither blew me away. They have single origin espresso and pour overs, which is a huge plus. They also have a good selection of pastries and breakfast items. Tons of seating and free WiFi, lots of remote workers on laptops. I also really appreciated that the music was very low and I could have a conversation without feeling like I had to yell over anyone.

Google
I really like the atmosphere in this place, and the service is pleasant. The person who took our order was very friendly. The decor is quite unusual—it feels like everything is made of clay. For two coffees, we paid $17, which I wouldn’t consider cheap. Additionally, we were asked to pay an extra $1 because I requested my Iced Matcha without ice. I didn’t like the taste of the matcha—I could only taste the milk. And despite asking for no ice and even paying extra for it, they still put ice in my drink. The vanilla latte that my boyfriend ordered was quite tasty for me. I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

Google
Love the Sedona 🌵vibe here! The space is beautiful and I highly recommend trying the Earl Grey Latte!

Google
This was such a nice place to check out while we were visiting Austin! The coffee and food were really good! I liked that their vegan kolache was so tasty. I’m not vegan but I love to taste test different options. Also the blueberry latte was really cozy and delicious! The owner was also so kind. This is a very beautiful neighborhood coffee shop!

Yelp
The previous review of mine shares all my necessary thoughts on Palomino, but I have a running list (for my own personal desires) of the best coffee shops in Central Texas and Palomino ranks in the top 3. They do a good job here. I had a blueberry latte and it smacked. RIYL: Going to coffee shops with unique vibes and Instagram-worthy spaces, but also actually having good espresso drinks.

Yelp
The interior design aspect of Palomino Coffee is an interesting adobe/desert combo with concrete flooring. It's really quite different than any other coffee shop and I like it. Once you enter from the parking lot (with ample parking spaces) it's as though you're instantly transported to the desert. It really reminds me of something you'd expect to find in Marfa. The space doesn't appear to be large but it actually has a lot of roomy interior seating with big tables, sofas, etc. In front of the shop as you enter is a patio area for outdoor seating. One of the best things about this coffee shop (aside from the coffee) is that they allow dogs inside as well as outside. Yes, most of Austin is this way but you'd be surprised how many coffee shops only allow furry friends on exterior patios. The croissants are perfectly flaky and fresh. The blueberry latte tastes like a blueberry muffin! It's one of their seasonal offerings and it's out-of-this world delicious. The blueberry syrup is sugar-free & house made. The staff are pleasant and have mastered the craft of coffee as art.
google avatar

Briana N.

Yelp
I appreciate the huge parking, the vibey atmosphere, and the delicious drinks! And that's really all you can ask for. All the syrups are made in house, and are therefore not too sweet, which I'm sure most people would love. As a sweet drink lover, I love that you can just add more sugar yourself if you want. I myself was a big fan of the blueberry matcha latte. The matcha flavor was pretty present while still being able to taste blueberry.
google avatar

Candice N.

Yelp
We stopped in here randomly to get some work done on a Saturday. It wasn't super busy and aside from a few folks having a loud convo, it was easy to get some work done. The matcha here is awesome! We also split a kolache that hit the spot. Cute little place, I'd def come back if ever in the area again!
google avatar

Yelp
This coffee shop is absolutely devine. I got a regular latte and was able to drink it with no sugar or additional flavors. It was so smooth. They had breakfast tacos for purchase which I got the beans, potato and cheese. Definitely needed some salt, very bland. Green sauce was good! The coffee shop gave new Mexico vibes and was very unique. Stop by for a nice cup of Joe!
google avatar

Helen N.

Yelp
Came here because I heard great things about this spot and it was cute! Very aesthetic pleasing! Instagram worthy! Staff was nice and friendly. Drinks were good and tasty!

Yelp
Very solid coffee and cute interior. Good seating plus outlets for working or just chatting with friends!

Yelp
Cute coffeeshop in east Austin! Got a vanilla latte that was tasty. Decor is very cute! Tons of places to sit and work with outlets present. Ample parking with a lot out front.

Yelp
Palomino is one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin. Very chill atmosphere, simplistic decor inside, and decent amount of seating. There's two large community tables, some living room style seating and some bar seating, I think the taller guy that works there is the owner? he is super friendly. Overall most of the staff are friendly, some of them are not the super friendliest but not rude maybe just more introvert than anything. Quality of coffee is great, my go to is usually just a black drip coffee or a cortado. Their matcha is solid too, except their seasonal fig matcha couldn't really taste the fig/it was very light on the fig taste so that wasn't worth the extra price. Overall: I'd say 4.5/5 but can't give half star so will round up to 5 stars.

Yelp
My fiancé found this coffee shop on yelp and we were really excited to try during our recent visit to Austin. The service was fast and the people were really nice. The interior was well decorated, featuring bohemian touches and (i think) local products for sale near the front. Just outside of the coffee shop, there was a small market set up for additional food items and local trinkets. We ordered a cappuccino and a rosemary vanilla latte. Both drinks had a good espresso flavor. The specialty latte in particular stood out to me as the flavor combination was well balanced. They had another seasonal drink (the miso caramel latte) that also caught my eye. Overall, I had a great experience and I would definitely visit Palomino again.
google avatar

Christy L.

Yelp
Austin has such a special collection of coffee shops that not many cities can compete with. I unfortunately don't get to visit Austin often anymore, so whenever I am in the city, I am extremely selective about which new shops I want to try and which coffee places I want to revisit that are tried and true for me. Palomino was one of those I found on yelp that I figured had the potential to make my elite list of coffee shops, and boy was I right. I got a seasonal flavor- the rosemary vanilla latte and it was DELICIOUS. You can tell that they are experts at pairing their flavors because this drink tasted very intentional and smooth. The rosemary and the vanilla undertones paired so well and left a perfect blend in my mouth. The espresso was pulled very nicely as well. The interior is very bohemian and cute. There are many tables and spots to do work, but it is quite busy on the weekends! Polomino will be added to my list of austin coffee favorites!!!

Yelp
Coffee was great and cashier was very helpful. Amazing things: -- They open really early! 7am -- They have decaf espresso -- Comfy seating options I'm really glad they open at 7am -- it was nice to get there before the place really filled up at 8:45am. It was quite cold inside. I wore a hoodie the whole time and my feet were cold -- I was wearing flip flops. My half car cortado was good. I probably could have done with decaf -- I'll know for next time. I also had a Tacodeli breakfast taco which was ok. The pastry was delicious and I would order it again. Sugary outside was yummy.

Yelp
Great blueberry latte in a minimalist/ SW inspired cafe. The baked good and kolache selection was delicious.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
So, I was a bit bummed that the Winter Fig Matcha wasn't anything too special. I will say, that I am a tough grader with Matcha drinks, in general. It was almost $10 oat milk and tip/tax which seemed underwhelming and overpriced altogether. As for some positives - the interior of the store is beautiful with its decor and there were good workspace options throughout. It was nice that they had water, free wi-fi, and additional milk on the side ready for their patrons. I got some work done but I will say it was quite busy, even on a weekday morning.
google avatar

Laurie N.

Yelp
I didn't get food. Coffee was delicious and bought a cold press juice. Establishment has plenty of seating and spacious. Service is friendly and they greet you even when it's busy.
google avatar

Ricardo P.

Yelp
Came here recently on my way out of Austin. Wanted to try a new coffee spot and found Palomino nearby. Had the specialty maple latte which was good. The ambiance was nice and quiet. The service was good. Overall ok place.
google avatar

Allie H.

Yelp
Very cool vibe in this Austin coffee spot. Definitely the coffee is smooth and more of a subtle flavored. If you want your coffee sweet, ask for an extra pump of flavor. This place is adorable and an absolutely beautiful spot.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Palomino Coffee is a gorgeous little coffee shop! Very beautiful internal with communal tables and bar stool sitting. You won't be guaranteed to sit by an outlet, but it's a great place to go to work, read, or catch up with a friend! Outdoor seating too. The coffee was really good and the feta spinach empanada was yummy too!
google avatar

Subha R.

Yelp
I love this coffee shop. It had been on my list and it is a must try if you find yourself in the neighborhood. The exterior doesn't do justice for the beautiful inside! The interior is so cute and is very boho chic. They have lots of local wares for sale. I got a desert rose iced almond late and a kouign amann. The barista was nice and answered my questions about different syrups. With tip it was around 15 dollars.

Yelp
Step into Palomino Coffee, and you're immediately swept up in an aesthetic dream. My boyfriend and I swung by this morning with our puppy to grab some drinks to go. It's a relief when a spot welcomes your furry friends, and Palomino does it with style! The ample parking, shared with a few other businesses, made it hassle-free to get in and out quickly. We grabbed a tea to go for my boyfriend and a latte to go for myself. Despite the bustling vibe, the service was friendly and pretty quick. Plenty of people were in there studying, chatting, or grabbing things to go. The community tables are big, and it's evident that this place is not just about the aesthetics; the coffee and bites are top-notch, as well. There is also on-site roaster, which we checked out for a bit as we waited for the drinks. Palomino Coffee is a true Austin gem. Whether you're in for a quick pick-me-up or a leisurely hangout, this place ticks all the boxes. With its friendly baristas, dog-friendly policy, and ample parking, it's definitely a spot worth checking out. We'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Cute place to do some work / study. It can get a little loud in case you have any zoom meetings, be prepared. Coffee and croissant was a great combo.
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
Went in here to work today & it's a great WFH spot! The matcha latte was perfect, they played soft music in the background which was nice, had a water station & are dog friendly! The only downside is they close at 4 so it's a day-time/morning only thing! Lots of parking available out front & cute patio seating now that the weather is nice! Would recommend if your in the east Austin area looking for a nice coffee shop.
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
I ordered the iced blueberry latte! The latte was good. We really enjoyed the decor and vibe of this place.
google avatar

Anne E.

Yelp
Great little coffee spot with a small sampling of pastries that are very good. I drank a cardamom mocha latte. I told them to go easy on the chocolate because I really wanted the cardamom flavor. Sadly, it was not coming through for me. Still, a well made latte. Would I come back? Sure, if I were nearby. Go check it out.
google avatar

Kate Z.

Yelp
I thought that this café was really small based on the pictures, but it actually has a good amount of seating! It can be a good place to work, read a book, or catch up with a friend over coffee. The service is nice. We were there when they were closing and got some free pastries! The coffee cake was okay, but then again it was probably old haha. As for the coffee, they have fun seasonal drinks and roast their coffee in house sometimes, so it's fresh. There's plenty of parking in the lot too. I'll be back!
google avatar

Cameron N.

Yelp
There's limited parking, seating to work, and power outlets; however, I think the coffee and staff were great! It really just depends what you're looking for
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Amazing coffee there. The place inside is super pretty and good to work on your computer. Only downside they serve coffee in to go cups right away. So much for a city where people pretend to be "green" Service is just fine. Nothing to remember of either
google avatar

Bethany A.

Yelp
Palomino is a great coffee shop in East Austin. I absolutely loved the aesthetic. It's calming and cute. The coffee shop is on the smaller side and closes at 4pm everyday. There are cushioned benches, bar seats, and a large community table. Overall: I was happy with my time at Palomino. Be mindful of when you're stopping in if you want to sit and drink as it gets busy. Given my experience, I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Zain R.

Yelp
On my last trip to Austin, we stopped by at Palomino coffee. Not only is the interior relaxing and tranquil but the servers were actually friendly. I opted for a hot latte and the bf got a iced cardamom latte. Both were absolutely delicious. It tends to get very busy but they have a pretty spacious parking. Go for the coffee. Stay for the vibes.
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
This is a spot I want to make time to come to more. The atmosphere is peaceful and usually hosts creatives at work. Love their lattes & decor.
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Love the aesthetic of this place! The minimal desert vibe is in! From large tables to couches to bar seat, you have a large variety of study options. I got the chai latte - one of the best I have had. Delicious and worth every little drop! Great service as well. Definitely recommend :)
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
This is a very cute coffee shop with excellent coffee! Got my usual cappuccino and it was strong and served at the perfect temperature. Service was quick and polite. I am glad I don't live closer to this spot or I would swing by quite often!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops in the city! Their iced vanille latte is a classic, and you can tell they make their syrup in hours from the vanilla bean flavor. Such a cute and aesthetic interior as well!
google avatar

Mariam P.

Yelp
Hmm this was really not what I expected. All the reviews raved about the aesthetic. Not sure if they are in the middle of remodeling it was kinda strange. There was a lot of space that could be used for seating but instead has garbage bins? lol I like the vibe of the crowd in there though. Worker wasn't friendly or anything. Bathroom was clean. Onto the drink, I tried the lavender honey latte warm. This tasted strange. Maybe the honey had an additional flavor/strain added to it? It tasted weird like soured coffee/soured milk? My friend had the cardamom mocha and liked it. To be honest, I wouldn't come back.
google avatar

Sana A.

Yelp
I saw this place on instagram reels and it definitely lives up to the hype! The inside is GORGEOUS I wish more places in Austin looked like this and if they do please send recommendations. The details are stunning from the artisanal products on sale to the thrive plants, the wood beans the couches even the outdoor seating is nice. They've got a parking lot thankfully because I can't street park to save a life and the bariastas made a great coffee! Service was good. Music was a bit loud for me and they close at 3 I think which are the only downsides. Otherwise it's a gem of a place and I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Abida H.

Yelp
Spent the better part of our time at Palomino admiring how they brought this simple, dessert-vibe aesthetic to life to create this gorgeous warm yet airy space. I seek coffee shops which feel pleasing to be in and make me want to stay a while -- this was just that! We ordered the prickly pear matcha lemonade and espresso tonic. The refreshing drinks themselves were so pretty and I love trying new concoctions. Both were fantastic and my partner, a coffee fanatic, was quite impressed with the tonic. Love that they have Kerlache kolaches and Pueblo Viejo tacos, we had some breakfast there as well. Love Palomino, can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
I will say I have no complaints about this coffee shop, all of the things I have opinions on are more things that I see personally but don't think affected my experience. This coffee shop is definitely more of a coworking space/wfh hang out which is fine but personally I like to have my space and not have to be right next to someone who's on a work call. It almost felt as if I was back in elementary and we all have to sit around a table during class. The drink I got was matcha lavender which again was decent but nothing too crazy or really worth raving about.
google avatar

Brisa P.

Yelp
Such an Austin place! Met one of my friends from work for coffee during a weekday and it was super busy, but with fast and friendly service. I ordered a hot chai latte with oat milk and it was delicious. Besides my drink, I loved that the place was super dog friendly and there was plenty of parking. Owners with their dogs were sitting outdoors and indoors and, everyone kept their space and had good etiquette with the other dog parents. I didn't bring my dog, but my friend did and she was so chill while we caught up and enjoyed our coffee + chai. Will come back again and bring my pup!
google avatar

Kari L.

Yelp
In terms of design, Palomino Coffee is not your average artsy, minimalist cafe. Big fan of the desert aesthetic and the adorable pink cactus sculptures decorating the entrance. As to be expected, the cafe attracts the usual millennial hipster crowd with some students here and there. I ordered the miso caramel latte (iced and with oat milk). It was ok. Coffee flavor was definitely there, but I couldn't really taste the miso. Still, I want to come back here again and try their other menu items. As for the service, staff were amicable and quick with the drinks.
google avatar

Misha S.

Yelp
Like many new, fantastic places in Austin - Palomino is a study in contrast. Gorgeous, hipster, high end and well made coffee - contrasted with a large room with some exposed metal beams and sacks of goods stored on the side. Amazing western aesthetic, paired with a HUGE piece of cement close to the bathroom that wobbles when you walk over it. But here's what it comes down to - the coffee is fantastic. I got a vanilla bean latte and my husband got a cardamon mocha latte. They came in these really cute amber colored glasses and we LOVED them. This place is a vibe, and worth a (repeat) visit.
google avatar

Sabrina B.

Yelp
This place is desert chic with a decent amount of seating. They have a corner to check out some cool things to buy. I liked that the staff were positively receptive to dogs, offering some dog treats to my little pup. The place was a bit loud, and it was warm due to the big windows and not much shade outside to prevent that beating sun. Interesting coffees, but damn are they a bit pricey. There is an up-charge to get it to-go, which I would have hoped we were vocally told instead of being surprised by it. Also ordered a kolache that was good and kinda tasted like an Asian pork bun even though it wasn't Asian and made of brisket, but the staff forgot to give us it and we waited a good while and had to check up on it despite it not being busy. It seemed that they were distracted by a friend being there. I don't think this place was bad, but it is a long drive to try out this semi-viral place for Austin's cafes. Could be a staple for some people, but maybe a once in a while cafe for me if I'm in SE Austin. The strong points were the taste, the low points were the noise and price.
google avatar

Niharika G.

Yelp
Come for the Honey Lavender Latte and Brisket Kolache; stay for the serene, bohemian vibe. The café's bohemian ambiance enhances the experience!! Great work space too: they have a cozy couch, bar seating, and two large tables with outlets; they caters to those wanting to relax or work. The generous parking space is a big plus, adding convenience to the overall visit!!
google avatar

Slavizza G.

Yelp
4 for location , but it does have a nice parking lot, nice indoor working spaces, cool Ambiance their matcha was great and cinnamon roll was the most amazing
google avatar

Catherine Z.

Yelp
amazing service from spencer & co. at palomino coffee here in austin--had a pour over and my friend ordered their seasonal desert rose iced matcha! staff was eager to answer questions and meet our needs thank u palomino will be back
google avatar

Elsie T.

Yelp
10/10 great coffee and 6/10 okay food items-- Came here with a friend and although the coffee was exquisite, I didn't think anything else matched the quality of the coffee roast. They have limited food items and when you drink your coffee in the restaurant, they serve it in a small glass (but it's still $6 somehow). Sometimes, you just wanna chug on a large iced latte you know? Just me? Okay. Sorry lol.
google avatar

Deborah N.

Yelp
Made a pit stop here before heading out of Austin to return home to Houston...looked very earthy, and hippy from the photos, but the reviews were strong so we gave it a whirl!... Many people mentioned the noisiness of the coffee beans being ground at the shop, I agree. Especially if you're trying to study, but if you're a "to-go" person, then it really shouldn't affect your experience or the review... They have tacos from Tacodeli, which is super convenience and super nice! The ones here were super warm and fresh! I ordered a seasonal coffee that was miso and something??...can't remember the exact name, all I know is the flavors were accurate but tasted funky!! That's my fault for trying to go with something I've never tried before and being adventurous :( Should've gotten a caramel latte... There was outdoor seating, which was really nice! The weather was beautiful that day, and it fit the bill to enjoy our tacos and coffee outside! (late post, btw)...It's been about a month since we came here...
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
Their coffee was amazing! I tried the rosemary vanilla latte and the flavors were prepared in-house - you could taste the difference. They carry Sour Duck pastries. The decor is adorable. Service was friendly. Wifi is weak so don't count on it.
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
Lovely space with a Southwest desert feel and good music. It's an intentionally designed cafe, from the painted accents to the ceiling lights and wall shelves. I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere with plenty of light coming through the windows to help all those beautiful plants grow! Now for the actual coffee: The drip coffee was a good 5/5. I ordered a specialty coffee, Rosemary Vanilla Latte with oat milk and really liked this combo! Now I prefer the rosemary taste over lavender in my coffee.
google avatar

Jinhyung K.

Yelp
Solid coffee shop. Super aesthetic, feels like you're in a cave in a dessert. I never watched Star Wars, but I remember the desert bar. Yeah, that aesthetic but in a good way. Super packed for a weekday morning and understandably so, as it looked like a good place to work. Plenty of outdoor seating as well. We got the Show Pony which was their latte with vanilla bean but we weren't tasting the vanilla syrup at all. We took it back and remade us a new one no questions asked and they were super nice about it. Huge ups for that! The new one they made was sooo much better with the vanilla. Solid latte. Definitely a place we'd come back to!
