15 Places to Try Tea in NYC

"This cozy West Village tea room sports a cottagecore charm and about a hundred teas where its proprietary blends like Young Hyson green tea with blueberries or an Assam black tea with cacao and dates stand out. Copper tea canisters come with handwritten labels for ingredients, instructions, and caffeine levels. Decaf teas line the left wall; a small showcase of snacks like tahini chocolate chip cookie stands at the back. Only a couple green marble tables allow for quiet indoor sipping, but the outdoor structure invites more lively conversation." - Caroline Shin

This crafty tea shop is intimate and delicate. It feels as if in a fairy tale and even the owner refers herself as a tea fairy. 🧚‍♀️Each corner of the store holds a story with a design to precise it makes me feel home. I remmend to make a reservation as there are only 8-10 seats to have tea indoors. The cookies are delicious. The Rose tea and Milk Oolong with milk were delicious. Looking forward to try the peach and oolong with mint. Thank you for the lovely and magical time.

Google
Very small, intimate space but lovely selection of teas! If you’re coming with a friend or even sitting at the “bar” space, would highly recommend a reservation because there’s very little seating. Had the Victorian Earl Grey with a matcha loaf - delicious!

Google
quaint, cozy, great for intimate catch ups. the service is friendly & informative. to dine in, choose a tea for the pot per person quota, and a pastry/small bite pairing from the menu. i chose the [cocoa, cardamom, & cinnamon] blend iced with oat milk, delicious while not too sweet. for our small bite, i chose the blt which was ROCKING. lettuce, bacon, tomato jam on brioche, perfect tea time snackwich. add this to your must visit list if you’re in west village.

I really enjoyed the tea—we stayed inside to enjoy it with a couple of desserts. The tea ceremony felt truly special. However, the desserts were disappointing—overly sweet and sugary, lacking balance. Still, I’d return just for the tea experience!

Google
Such a great cozy spot to hang out and catch up with a friend. Staff is super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable of all of their tea blends. Their sticky rice tea is unlike anything I've ever had and I loved it. Highly recommend!!

It was a quiet midweek afternoon when I made my way to Paquita, nestled on a postcard-perfect corner of the West Village. The moment you arrive, there’s a sense of calm—subtle, polished, and unmistakably intentional. I had called ahead to make a reservation, and the process was effortless. No fuss, no delays—just a soft, warm welcome waiting at the door. The interior strikes that perfect balance between posh and personal—soft lighting, layered textures, and a layout that invites slow conversation. We were welcomed by Nancy, who was as kind as she was knowledgeable. She guided us through the tea selection with genuine care, encouraging us to take our time as we explored their curated global collection. For nearly ten minutes, we lingered over jars, smelling and studying the ingredients before choosing a few stronger black teas. Every part of it felt intentional, thoughtful—never rushed. And for those looking for something gentler, they do offer a variety of caffeine-free options as well. To accompany the tea, we ordered a full flight of their Baby Cakes Set—a delicate and beautifully presented selection that felt like a small celebration in itself. We chose a range of flavors: Royal Vanilla, Triple Chocolate Brownie, Orange Crème & Strawberry, Vanilla Crème, Royal Chocolate, Lemon, and Chocolate Strawberry. Each one was uniquely layered, striking that rare balance of elegance and indulgence. They didn’t overpower the tea—they danced alongside it. Out of all the tea houses I’ve visited, Paquita might just be the one I’ll return to the most. It’s not only the refined setting or the global selection of teas—it’s the way you’re treated with such care. Nancy made the experience memorable, grounding it all with a sense of genuine hospitality. Paquita is the kind of place that lingers with you—soft, elegant, and just a little enchanting.

Google
My friend recommended this spot to me, and I did not know that New York had a place like this! Located in the west side, this shop offers a wide selection of unique teas and some small bites. The interior itself is antique, quaint, and there's minimal (but some!) seating for you to enjoy your tea at. One of my favorite parts of this shop is that their tea menu is all around the shop, right on their walls. So, you walk around the shop, look at the different teas (organized by type, caffinated/non-caffinated), smell them, and read the labels. I had a lot of fun doing this! Their prices are good and their teas are amazing. Definitely a cool experience!

Beautiful space, with a wide selection of teas and light snacks- I absolutely adored admiring the decorations, tea pots, and dishware. Great space for introspection or a pleasant tea with a friend.

Yelp
What a lovely place for a cup of tea. The photos make this shop almost look like a library, but on closer inspection all the containers on the shelves are the different flavors of tea sorted by category. There are two tables located inside the shop with a larger number located in the roofed housing outside. The vibes are real chill both inside and out complimenting the tea choices very well. There also small tasty bites to choose from including baked goods and sandwiches. We ended up going with sticky rice and salmon sandwiches. The tea was steeped perfectly and was the right amount of natural sweetness and bold flavor, very relaxing. The staff inside adds to the ambiance by being helpful but also allowing you peruse and smell the tea samples without any pressure. A gem of a find.

Yelp
This tea spot is absolutely adorable! The indoor seating is small and cozy, with dimmed lighting that creates a relaxing atmosphere. There also some outdoor seating available, though it can get pretty packed. One of the highlights is their tea display on the wall--you can smell the teas before ordering, which makes for a fun and interactive experience. You can choose to order a cup of tea or a teapot, and we went with the teapot. It was surprisingly heavy but super cute, adding a nice touch to the experience. If the tea is too strong for your taste, they offer honey on the side, which we tried--and it perfectly enhanced the flavor of our tea. This place would be great for a cute, girly date or a cozy outing with loved ones. We also noticed they have some bakery items, which we'll definitely try next time. Overall, it's a charming spot for tea lovers!

Yelp
This is the best tea house I've been to in nyc. Paquita is unpretentious and cozy. On the weekends I would HIGHly recommend a reservation because they do not have many seats. We went in on a rainy Sunday afternoon and put our names down for a resi. We walked around the neighborhood for 30 minutes then came back to be sat. On the weekends they do ask you to order food along with tea which is fair since the place is so small. The tea selection is intense- they have so many flavors to choose from. I ended up going with Patagonia berry. My bf and I sat at a table outside, enjoyed our tea, and read our books. I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich. It was good but I think I want to try a dessert w tea the next time I stop in. You order at the counter and are then shown your seats. The service is quick and attentive. They also let you buy tea in bulk to take home!

Yelp
I love the aesthetic of this tea shop, super cozy place to sit for an hour or so. Seating is very limited so I recommend either getting here early, around opening, or making a reservation. The selection here is pretty impressive and you're able to smell the tea before you choose one. I chose the rose congou, which had this lovely fragrance. They have a selection of baked goods as well (I got a lemon cake), which was okay but I mainly recommend the tea.

Yelp
The most adorable and perfect tea house with cozy ambience, soft lighting, indoor and outdoor seating, and shelves lined with an impressive variety of teas. My friends and I each selected a tea, ordered a pot, and sat outside in the little streetery. 10/10 hygge

Yelp
Paquita's a really special tea house - it's one of those places that are actually so cute and is as amazing as it looks on Instagram. It has a cozy, soft-lit ambiance and beautiful rustic furnishings that make coming inside so appealing. There's not much seating inside, but it's really wonderful to be able to smell so many different variations of tea. They also have some pastries and tea cakes that you can purchase, and each one was so soft, chewy and well made. Keep in mind this isn't a place you can sit and work due to the limited seating inside and outside. Definitely one of my favorite places in West Village.

Yelp
Great food. Tried a range of appetizers and main courses. Really was great. Will definitely go back.

Yelp
Loved this find. We stopped by to get some tea and had such a fun time. We sat in the outdoor booth. Highly recommend, will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Calm and cozy atmosphere with huge collections of teas that you can look/smell through. We ordered pot of Jasmine pearls and Rose Congou and the lemon loaf to share

Yelp
TLDR: Great teas and found myself a new favorite reading spot! If you love tea, this place is for you. They have such a large selection of teas its a little overwhelming but you are able to sniff anything that intrigues you before you commit! I chose the white tea with rose and it was great. Each pot is about $10. There were also some pastries and tea cakes that were available to purchase. Got some raspberry madeleines and they were super moist and buttery. I'll probably get them every time. They don't allow laptops in the cafe, so keep that in mind, but you are welcome to read books! It can get noisy and the space is quite small so seating may be limited. Overall: can't wait to try another tea and read in this cute place!

Yelp
Adorable find in West Village/Greenwich area - this is a tea lover's delight! Super tiny spot, but they have all sorts of varieties of teas (looseleaf). I loved how you can smell the different blends via there samples. I got a Chinese Oolong tea and loved it. They seemed to do tea time/tea tastings as well - nice spot, but be prepared to be a little cramped. Good spot to get to-go high quality, loose leaf tea .

Yelp
The cutest tea shop tucked away in the West Village! I'm so happy I found this spot on my last day visiting NYC. I spent 1-2 hours sipping my tea and writing my journal and it was absolutely perfect for a cold day. I feel like the service could have been a little better! Since it was my first time there, I would've liked to be informed of the tea selection and process a little more. I was a little confused and felt like the employees were not very helpful ): Would have been a 5/5 experience otherwise! I got an herbal tea (i believe it was ginseng). Also no laptops allowed and the tea pot was about $10. There is also outdoor seating. Would not recommend for a big group, but great for 1-3 people.
google avatar

Jennine K.

Yelp
OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH!! They have cans filled with so many different teas, with samples in jars to smell. I got the rose Congou and a slice of lemon loaf. It's nice and quiet and I got to read while I enjoyed my tea. Highly recommend for any tea lovers!

Yelp
This tea shop was Godsent. I'm so happy we found this hidden gem. We were looking for a cafe to escape the heat and the crowds, but every coffee shop seemed to be packed. Yelp helped me find this downright delightful spot. We were grateful to find a table for four. It is narrow in the coziest way possible. The walls are lined with tea and you can pick how you want it prepared. As soon as you order, you'll pay. There are also stunning vintage finds you can purchase at this shop. I felt like I was in a lofi youtube playlist at Paquita. It was something right out of a novel you'd read during fall time. It was such a great transition for a Labor Day Weekend trip. I ordered an incredibly refreshing iced berry tea. My friend got a chocolate cinnamon iced tea with milk. The other two ordered a black tea and another fruity tea. We were all happy to escape the heat in such a beautiful place. There is one gender neutral bathroom behind the cash register that customers can use. I highly recommend checking out this local establishment.

Yelp
Beautiful place with so many teas. It is hard to know what to do but the people here are lovely and helpful. I smelled 4 teas and chose a wonderful tea. A peaceful place, a great vibe, and a delicious tea. I can't wait to make this a regular place to go!

Mythreyi P.

Yelp
The Darjaleeg tea with cream and sugar was yum. Cozy ambience. Helpful staff. A little pricey.

Yelp
A magical spot giving Hogwarths vibes. Like Mcnulty's nearby this niche spot makes this nabe so special. They specialize in loose teas & have a nice selection. I loved the herbal tea I bought with minty and chocolate notes & it's snazzy packaging. A great spot for gifting & specialty teas & coffees in a delicious shop. A magical memorable shopping experience.

Yelp
The tea selection is incredible, fun spot for antique shopping too. Limited indoor seating but lots of outdoor spots. Great place to catch up with people or even have a date- you get a large individual pot of tea. The food is good but pricey for amount- this place is best understood as tea and snacks. I loved the milk oolong and the tropical coconut. They've got everything from oolong to black to berry and herbal teas... can't wait to come back! Perfect conversation spot.

Yelp
If The Old Curiosity Shop and Tea Shop Of East Peking (I made the second one up) had a love child, it would be Paquita. A long narrow corridor of a shop, with outdoor seating. Yes, you can get tea here, and it will be served in a small, heavy, antique pot. As you see the pot and your delicate little cup, you will be transported to the Middle ages. And then the price will bring you right back to 2023. Other purveyors of fine tea have noted that a cup costs north of $10. Is Lapsang Souchong still calling thy name? Perhaps it is. If you yearn for a touch of the Olde Worlde look no further. Paquita awaits.

Yelp
Paquita in the West Village is the cozycore cafe of your dreams serving teapots full of fragrant teas and pastries. We went for a cozy morning breakfast and got a teapot of hibiscus berry tea and a cappuccino alongside bite size raspberry muffins and a lemon loaf slice. Come with a book (no laptops allowed inside) or a date and enjoy a peaceful cup of tea
google avatar

Yelp
Adorable tea shop in the west village. You pick out a pot of tea per person and then sit and enjoy! They have limited seating but they move tables pretty quickly.
google avatar

Kamara S.

Yelp
To be honest, I came here by chance. I was in the area and I remembered that I was running low on my tea leaves. I did a search on tea places in the area and I was lucky to find paquita was only 7 minutes away walking. The place is narrow especially since it accommodates people drinking teas (pots and all). But it has enough space to showcase different tea varietals and the accessories. As a short person who typically has to look above, some things were below so I had to look intensely. Prices for tea leaves came in pounds but they allowed you to buy smaller and they are listed on the tags on the cans (pictured). I bought a fourth of iron goddess and I look forward to trying it. This was a nice find
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
This place is super cute and aesthetic! You get to select a tea to get a tea pot for about $8. I got a plum tea that was fragrant and sweet. The amount of tea you get is good enough for two people. Seating is limited, but we were able to get a seat. Would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Laquita is not only a little precious, but it was quiet on my noon time weekend visit. The barista signaled for me to wait to be seated even though there were plenty of seats. She took it very seriously and said there were seats in the "cabin"(ie outdoor covered area) or inside. She firmly pointed out, with a type of hipster military finesse, that there was no menu. I requested something unusual with caffeine. She knew the perfect thing. Soon a teapot arrived with instructions that it will be ready in 2 minutes, and a pay machine in my face - $10.50, with tip, $12.50, for a tea. However she did not describe the tea until I later asked, a blend called "Campfire", a Chinese black oxidized tea smoked with pine needles - Lapsang Souchong. It was fantastic. The place is cute as hell with tons of things for sale like teapots and Knick knacks. I was then informed, with my iPad out, large screen devices are not allowed. I understand the rule but the place was empty at that point, and with my obvious irritation, they gave my permission. I overheard a tea to go was $6.50. All this fuss - I still can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I think @paquita.nyc might be my new favorite tea spot in NYC. Loved that I get to smell the leaves to decide what tea I want, and the setting is just so tranquil and peaceful! They also sell small household goods and decorations in the store and I want to bring all of them home!

Sarah B.

Yelp
The place itself is very nice and a has a cute cozy ambiance. But the service and employees are extremely rude and not professional. I stood in front of the cash register waiting to pay and there was a group of employees standing in a circle talking and they all see me waiting to pay for my pastry/drink and didn't approach me, until the main employee came to take my ring me up. This employee proceeds to rush my friend and I during our tea time to kick us out to make room for the next reservation but there was another table who sat down at the EXACT same time as us and was not rushed at all. She did this multiple times and was very dismissive and rude about it all. I understand that there is a time limit on seating but it did not make sense to only rush us out compared to the other table who showed up and ordered at the same time. The employees were overall not kind and very snobby and just not a great experience for mid pastries. The tea was good but I would definitely not recommend coming here to sit and dine in. I looked through their google reviews and a majority of customers feel the exact same and experienced what I've experienced with seemingly the same girl. So this is definitely not just my experience and it seems they pick and choose who they want to rush out.
google avatar

Madeline A.

Yelp
What a charming gem! This is a lovely spot to sip tea, solo or with a friend. It's so unique and they have a wonderful array of teas to choose from.
google avatar

Katie T.

Yelp
*2.5 stars* Shop is small but very cute. Has a large tea selection. The downside is the service. My friend ordered a tea to go but was told if she wants to sit at one of the tables she has to order a pot. She went ahead and ordered a pot and while she was waiting for it we had someone come up to us and say the place has reached its capacity so go wait outside, though it was not even packed at the time. Finally we got to sit down in the small crowded sitting area outside. When another couple next to us left, we moved to their table since we were sitting right by the door and kept having people climb over us to try to get in. We thought it might be easier for the next people to sit at our previous table instead of trying to get past us but the same girl working there got an attitude and said if we want to move tables we have to let them know and not to do that in the future. Not sure if we caught her on a bad day but she made the whole experience very unpleasant. Otherwise tea was good, didn't get to try any pastries but my friend did and said the shortbread cookies were good too.
google avatar

Virginia G.

Yelp
Lovely spot for an afternoon break. We sat in the quaint adorable shop sipping tea (and coffee) as we watched the rain fall. The teas not cheap, but an memorable experience.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
Came here for a pot of tea for an afternoon pick me up and just to relax. The employee was super nice when I asked her for recommendations since they have so many options! I decided to go with the peach tea. I enjoyed the pot in their outdoor patio area. Def check out this hidden gem if you're in the west village.

Esther K.

Yelp
This place is so pretentious and overpriced. They failed to tell us about a policy of no to-go cups if you're sitting at one of their tables. One of the workers let us sit down but the other worker kicked us out when she brought us our tea. We were the only customers there and I already tipped them. Horrible experience -94483829283727/10
google avatar

Alexa R.

Yelp
Paquita is a super charming tea shop! You can smell all the loose leaf tea before purchasing a cup to-go or a teapot to-stay. There's limited indoor and heated outdoor seating, so I wouldn't recommend trying to do sit-down at peak hours or with a big group. I loved the ambiance, but thought it was pricey ($11ish) for the amount of tea that came in the pot and was disappointed that my green tea quickly grew bitter.
google avatar

Alicia F.

Yelp
Adorable. Pleasant service. Delicious and unique teas (great selection). If you have a group, not the best place because it is SMALL. but, that was part of the charm for me. There are "smelling samples" of all the teas, which is important to me. I left with one tea to go and 3 bags of loose leaf. Each tea has brewing instructions and prices for a pot, to go cup, and loose leaf. They also had some lovely antique tea related items for purchase.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
Extra cozy tea shop. Only eight seats and they're close together. Lots of varieties of tea; I'd estámpate approximately fifty options in this small shop. Love that there is a little sampler jar next to each loose leaf tea so that you can see the leaves and smell them. Makes it a way more interactive experience. I had a pot of the Milky Oolong at under $11 for an 18 oz pot. Reasonable price for the tea but I loved the atmosphere so it was well worth it for me. Tea started out with a pear and apricot flavor and it eventually developed a creamy milkyness later on in the pot. A really pleasant session. They've got tons of tea ware plus various vintage stuff. Service was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
very cozy and cute tea shop!! loooots of tea selections so it can be overwhelming, be sure to ask for recs drinks: got the latte, genmaicha, mint green tea. all of the tea comes in a (heavy) but rlly cute pot and you can enjoy several pours during your stay. mint green tea was very minty and filled with warm spice flavors while genmaicha was super light yet toasty, i liked this one the best! food: got lemon pound cake & tahini choco chip cookie. idk why i got the cookie bc i hate tahini so i unfortunately did not enjoy :( but lemon cake was good! space: RLLY small but very cute
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
Super cute tea shop in west village. Walked past her one day and came back the next. You can smell the different teas (displayed on walls) before making your selection. A pot of tea was roughly 9 dollars. The inside is small but they have a heated seating area outside! It's so cozy in there and very warm. Restroom in the back by cashier. I highly recommend this place! Would be a fantastic place to camp out and read in rain/snow. They ask that you don't bring laptops in so everyone was just reading.

Shan L.

Yelp
Their tea are mostly flavored, the quality of their original tea are just so so, but they have some really interesting flavors/blend to try. Overall, if you want a fun experience, I would recommend this place, even though the quality of the tea is a little underwhelming.
google avatar

Vishnu G.

Yelp
This is a fantastic spot to grab a relaxing pot of tea. They have a wide variety of teas to select from - black, green, herbal, and all sorts of blends. There's a few snacks to choose from as well. I really enjoyed the Japanese black tea I had (but I can't remember the name). The shop is quite small, so seating can be hard to come by unless you get lucky with your timing, but it's worth the wait.

Katie M.

Yelp
Tea was lovely and the space is beautiful, but the service was incredibly disappointing. I booked a reservation and upon arrival was told that purchase of food is required for reservations (which I understand, but should have been noted on the reservation page). We were not given any explanation to the ordering process or tea selection. After sitting for an hour we were asked to leave so another party could have our table, meanwhile the person next to us had been there since before we arrived.
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Super super cute tea shop to browse or get tea to stay or to go in the West Village! I really wish there were more seats because I wanted to enjoy my stay here, but it was very crowded on a Saturday afternoon (not surprised!) I got the Earl Grey tea and it was really good, even in a to-go cup. I would definitely return to try their other tea options; the staff was very friendly and kind.
google avatar

JP R.

Yelp
Quint specialty store, a feast for the eye, and for the tea lover. This place does not only have a wide variety of teas, but also so many accessories and gifts. Order a pot of your favorite, or newly discovered tea. Don't be in a rush, not because the staff is slow, but because you don't want the elegant experience to end. They have very limited seating available indoors, but the outside heated "cafe" space almost mirror the elegant experience inside (we have enjoyed it both indoors and outside).
google avatar

Keopi S.

Yelp
Went there today and it was a nice experience. You can get your tea hot or cold and they have some baked good for you to choose from. They don't have a menu per se but their menu is basically the tea along the walls and you can sniff them and see the flavors in them with the notes attached to them. The two women at the counter were very polite and sweet and it was a very pretty spot. Plus the vibes were so cozy even on a hot summer day. Only thing i had a tiny bit of issue with is the seating is limited if you want a table but otherwise it's perfect and so yummy! I recommend the butterfly pea drink with low sweetness and having a sweet baked good on the side.

Yelp
I happened upon this little gem of a tea house while visiting with my daughter. Great space and ambience and the tea selection was impressive. Really enjoyed my time there and cannot wait to return to NY and visit Paquita again.

Eddie Dohyun K.

Yelp
The tea is mediocre and the workers are rude. Would not recommend. There are so many better places in nyc.
google avatar

Shiela S.

Yelp
So glad I got to stop by during my first visit to NYC. The staff were great explaining the varieties of tea. I got a pot of tea and tried their little biscuit, which was the perfect pairing with the tea. Such a beautiful shop in a beautiful neighborhood!
google avatar

Trina D.

Yelp
A super cozy and friendly tea shop. Stopped by with a friend who had been previously. We were able to snag one of two tables inside. If you love tea, you should stop by!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Really cute spot with a great selection of tea! It is small, so you may have to wait a bit for a table to open up. They have a outdoor seating setup as well! The interior looks like it came out of a Victorian movie!
google avatar

Ajay A.

Yelp
A true tea haven in New York City. Shades (and scents) of McNulty and just a few blocks away from Christopher Street. The espresso is timed well, and there's plenty of miniature scones and snacks to nibble onto
google avatar

Sandi K.

Yelp
Amazing antique style tea room with very friendly, knowledgable employees. Indoor sitting is very small but they have a few tables outdoor. They have varieties of tea, which makes it look like a little museum.
