Wherewithall, James Beard Winners Johnny Clark and Beverly Clark’s Second Restaurant, Closes | Eater Chicago

"Mostly known as the work of Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark, Parachute has been recognized as one of the best Korean restaurants in America; last year they overhauled the restaurant to refocus on more traditional Korean cuisine after an initial iteration that reflected the perspective of a child of an immigrant living in America." - Ashok Selvam

Why a Chicago Restaurant Is Taking Their Most Popular Dish Off the Menu | Eater

"A neighborhood Korean American restaurant by Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark known for its labor-forward approach and a once-signature bacon-, potato-, and scallion-stuffed bing bread that was fried and baked—crispy outside and fluffy inside. The bing was a labor- and time-intensive favorite that required a month of training and daily prep to produce batches of 24, and its pre-pandemic economics were razor-thin (food $5.67, labor $4.65, fixed $4.05 for a $15 price, yielding just $0.63 profit, about 4.2%). Reopening after a renovation and two years of takeout, the owners decided to remove the item rather than shrink wages or compromise quality: they raised line pay and front-of-house salaries (house pay moved from $9/hour plus tips to $25/hour), added a 20% transitional service charge to fund higher wages and benefits, and prioritized creating a more equitable staffing model even though it raises costs and forces difficult menu choices." - Corey Mintz

"Inspired by the Italian linens she encountered on a trip to Amalfi several years ago, Parachute founder Ariel Kaye wanted to bring the same luxurious bedding to America. While the line started with bedding (the linen sheets are the only thing you’ll want to sleep in once you’ve tried them), the line has expanded to waffle bathrobes, Turkish towels, table linens, and throws. The New York flagship, which is set up like an apartment, with a living room, a functioning kitchen, a bedroom, and a vanity, pays homage to local artists, like Rodger Stevens, who designed the brass art installation in the entryway, and Brooklyn-based Rooted Design & Build, which created the natural wood table. Based on our interior designer’s recommendation, we purchased all our bedding and bath essentials from Parachute Home—including pillows, duvets, quilts, percale and linen sheets, towels, and bath mats. I frequently rotate pillows, so we opted for a mix of down and down alternative. The standard pillows were outstanding—definitely our favorite—while the king pillows were decent, though I generally prefer standard size. The linen sheets were incredibly soft and became even better with time, but the percale sheets proved to be more durable, especially with two dogs. Both types fit the mattress perfectly without shifting or bunching. As for the bath towels, they dried quickly and stayed fresh without any lingering odors. We’re very happy with everything we bought and would highly recommend Parachute Home for both quality and comfort.

Google
Horrible "non"-customer-service! The manager at this location is the rudest, craziest store manager I have ever encountered in my life. I had to call the police on him. Also the quality is horrible. $100 sheets, first wash, threads everywhere but where they should be - stitched into the products. Did a chat and an email (because there is no phone number) and no one could care less a customer had to call the police because of their manager. So crazy. The regular customer service person responding to the return went with the old gaslighting routine. Horrible company. 0/10 do not recommend.

I was shopping online and wanted to buy something from Parachute Home and gave my email and phone # for the 10% first purchase discount. I tried using the code they sent me, but it didn’t work. I contacted customer service and they said that because the item was a new item I couldn’t have the discount. However none of this was communicated in the email they sent me with the code. This is bait and switch behavior, and very lame customer service. I DO NOT recommend Parachute Home.

Feel UNWELCOME and have rude/unhappy face looking at us as we walk in.... NEVER come to this place. There is more and better options near SoHo/NoHo.

Unfortunately linens fall apart after 6 months. No replacement so clearly they expect their products to not hold up

Terrible ! The sale associates were sweet but the delivery service is terrible ! First punches in the store that they forgot to send out my items for a week! And the second purchase at the store , they still couldn’t ship out my items from the store in time again that I couldn’t cancel my order since it’s not my fault ! Please be aware and order online!

Jodi Atkin

Google
Can’t rate product yet because after almost a week, it has not shipped. No reason. Not reliable. Will not facilitate expedited delivery either, just “we will pass (feedback) along to our team so they can take into consideration improving our processing and shipping methods for the future “ No estimated date of arrival, no consideration. ZERO. Based purely on lack of command customer service, I would never purchase from them again

Google
These sheets didn’t last very long before forming a hole. Very disappointed in the quality and this was even a replacement!

Yelp
The customer service is lousy. I placed an order on their website two weeks ago and it still hasn't shipped (14 days now). Over the course of those two weeks, nobody has responded to multiple email requests from me for an update. I see other reviews here from people who had similar problems in the past. I have no idea what's going on and I guess nobody else does either.

Yelp
I bought the linen sheets less than a year ago. None of the fitted sheets follow the standard sizes for fitted sheets. They are all way too big, and the top of my bed is a crumbled mess. The king fitted sheets are about half a foot too wide, and too long. I also bought a twin comforter cover, with a similar problem. It looks like it was cut for a larger size, so there's that 10" flop folded over on the inside, where it buttons, creating a bulge. And even after less than a year, the fabric has worn thin. These sheets are overpriced, bad quality, and a waste of money. Don't buy them!

Yelp
my kids come home and ask what sheets are on their beds because they sleep great. I love the bedding. it is light, airy, clean and fits perfectly. not sure why others experience it so badly. I am a big fan.

Yelp
I'm confused why the ratings are so low... I've had my bedding for four years now. It is white and I do use small amounts of bleach and everything is like the first day I bought it! Yes, it is pricey...but you get what you pay for! Luxury bedding, super soft, that you can wash for years and not fall apart. Went in January to get a new pillow sham (old one had a hole - my fault). The team looked up the pillow size I had from a few years back, and helped quickly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I can't say enough about the customer service we received at Parachute. My daughter bought a bed cover or duvet for her new condominium and we came to visit this weekend . She asked us what was missing in the room. There was NO COLOR in the room. Everything was WHITE. We called ahead of time and Amber said "No problem." We returned it for beautiful Sand color sheets and Rust color Euro pillows and cover . Bingo! The room looks fabulous and we had a throw to match. I have a feeling her husband is a lot more comfortable with the room as well. Thank you for your comfortable way you handled the situation.

Yelp
Despite the marketing hype from Parachute that "thread count doesn't matter", it turns out it does. You pay a premium price for sheets that do feel good while they last, but after five years of owning their percale sheet set I just realized that I just threw out the lone remaining survivor of that fateful purchase - a pillowcase that developed a huge gaping hole. The rest of that set also ended up in the garbage at various points for the same problem - they just don't hold up and develop holes along the way. The attached photo is of the fitted sheet, which developed holes about 4 years after owning it. We slowly replaced each Parachute piece with a similar piece from Brooklinen as each piece from our Parachute sheet set dwindled into a shredded mess. So far the Brooklinen sheets seem to hold up much better.

Yelp
I'm not one who writes negative reviews, but Parachute Home deserves one. Just over a year ago, I purchased 2 linen duvet covers for my sons' bedroom. Following the first washing prior to putting them on my kids' beds, I noticed layers of lint covering the dryer screen. And then, the next time I took them off my boys' beds, the lint was all over their sheets and all over the room. I thought it would get better, so I continued to wash and use the covers, regardless of the lint that was everywhere, all the time. Sadly, it never got that much better--the lint collected in the screen of my air conditioner and all over the floor regardless of how many times I've cleaned the room. There is no end in sight for the amount of lint these covers produce, regardless of the number of washings. And when I contacted Parachute online (because I couldn't get through on the phone--wonder why?!), they basically told me that, regardless of my situation and the fact that I had photos to back my story up, I needed to do a better job with my laundry and they couldn't help me, but they would do me the huge favor of notifying Production so that this wouldn't happen again to other people (thanks a lot!). I've ordered multiple products from Parachute in the past, but never again. Just ordered 2 new linen duvet covers from Brooklinen--looking forward to a lint-free existence.

Yelp
I don't know where else to leave it so I am going to drop this right here because this is about Parachute online store. Your service is abominable. You cannot get anyone on the phone after buying a mattress. First they left my new bed in the pouring rain. Then, I realized they sent me a Queen despite ordering and paying for a King. Now they crowd source their delivery/ pick up so it's now 4 hours and counting late to pick up the wrong delivery and they have been unclear on when the new delivery is coming. Because you can only email customer service and there is no one to call it's impossible to tell them to shove it and just get a refund. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING AGAIN. You can do better than this and you should.

Yelp
Right now, my favorite bedding store. I've gotten sheets, pillowcases, pillows, towels, and now a new bath rug. I love the feel of the mentioned items and the customer service. The best customer service experience as they have a 90 day exchange/return policy, however you won't want to return anything :)

Yelp
Stopped in today to grab new sateen sheets, a duvet cover and a robe. The staff was super helpful and attentive. The store is decorated really nice and has all their products out for you to test. The sheets and duvet cover are already on my bed and they feel heavenly. Have a feeling I'll be visiting them more often !

Yelp
this store is just beautiful and so calming when you walk in. they have soft towels and blankets. staff was very helpful. its a small store but there's a lot to check out.

Yelp
Not a real company, at least online. Took my money, never confirmed my order, never sent sheets, can't contact them; emails get bounced back and phones are disconnected. Stay away.

Yelp
Great store! Welcoming staff and very knowledgeable about their product. Couldn't ask for a better experience. Highly recommended.
