Parlour - Review - Brookline - Boston - The Infatuation

"Parlour is a Coolidge Corner American restaurant in a space so narrow you can almost stand in the middle and touch both walls. It has a small menu consisting mostly of small plates, some of which are both creative and good, like the Nashville hot chicken donuts and the cheese fudge (which, for $8, is a perfect drinking snack). If you live in the area, or if you’re going to the Coolidge Corner Theater because you have the soul of someone who works in an 80s video rental store and geeks out about movies, this is a place you should keep in mind." - Dan Secatore

Dumpling Daughter to Expand to Brookline From Weston and Cambridge - Eater Boston

"They’re serving a mix of bar snacks, appetizers like garlic bread soup and grilled octopus, and main courses like barbecue chicken, veal milanese, and sweet and sour summer carrots. There’s also a lengthy list of cocktails — classics and “Parlour tricks” — plus beer and wine." - Dana Hatic

First of all, the cocktails here are stunning. They come out looking like works of art, and in my experience all are delicious. Then, the food. Even if you are not a cocktail fan, the food is worth the visit. The quality is high, the presentation is impressive, it's like comfort food but feels fancier than the average effort. The atmosphere is very comforting as well. It gives me vibes of stopping in at the local inn for dinner, having a private moment in a public place. As comforting as the food.

The food here was some of the best that I’ve had in Boston! We came for Valentine’s Day so the menu was different than the normal one, and everything we ate was delicious. The service was also phenomenal and very friendly! Altogether, the atmosphere was incredibly intimate, and we had a lovely time dining here.

I can't express how bad this place is for the price. $50/ per person. Drinks were good but very small for the price. Service was mediocre - forgetting my second drink order and taking over 10 minutes to pick up my credit card. The $28 charcuterie board was something anyone could have put together by going to whole foods and spending maybe $10. The cheeses were good to be fair. The crackers/bread were stale and clearly not made at restaurant. The applesauce was splitting and had no flavor. The "Caesar salad" was the worst I've ever had - worse than salads on airplanes. The dressing - the piece de resistance for Caesar was watered and basically absent. The romaine was old and just the inner parts. No anchovies (nor offered). We had the mussels - the best part is the broth - normally - this was the worst part. It had no flavor, no salt. Basically yellow water. Normally you get a nice piece of bread to dip the sauce - not here. The center of the dish had some strange tough vegetables with cabbage. No flavor, no salt. The mussels were fine but with nothing to augment them, might as well have been rubber. Music was good. Table was smaller than a MacBook pro. A guest came to our table drunk multiple times to tell us how wonderful the place was and to enjoy ourselves. We didn't. We left hungry and too many dollars poorer. We went to Taco Bell to get a better snack. Beware

I haven’t been in months so the menu probably changed but have been meaning to leave a review. Each time I go though, I’m blown away by the food and drinks. Love this gem. The octopus tested fresh and went well with the lemon caper aioli. The gnocchi had awesome flavor and the salmon melted in my mouth. Got the habanero pear (Mama Firefly), the clover club, and the rioja for drinks. Would recommend all options. The service was equally impressive. The waitress was fast and friendly and the owner came over to check in on my meal.

Google
This was a cool neighborhood spot, very cosy and warm interior. Fun shareable plates and very friendly service, we had reservations at another spot but came here when we walked past, it looked great. They've been open about 6 months and have great cocktails! Fun place to have some drinks and snacks before catcbing a movie at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. The gnocchi was the best thing we had.

After a film at Coolidge Corner Theater, we wandered by and found Parlour. My wife wasn't hungry, however she was down for a drink. Of course, if I'm traveling into the area I want dinner. I started with 'The One Who Knocks' for a cocktail. Tastes like Christmas, it was light and refreshing, and the presentation was nice with the cherries. Not for all palate's, but I enjoyed it. My wife opted for a beer. Notch Session Pilsner. Loved having local beers available. I opted for the full rack of lamb ribs. Decadent, well seasoned, and medium rare. Beautiful dish. Portion was just right, I loved it. High West Double Rye whiskey paired well with the dish. Our server was amazing, she was pleasant and attentive. Even asked the bartender to help me decide on which whiskey would pair with the lamb. Bartender was wicked chill as well. Even the atmosphere was pleasant. Intimate space, even the restroom was immaculate and cute. Great end to the night, I would recommend stopping by.

They sure do show love here and have a beautiful spot. The pillows almost had me taking a nap after I ate 😴. Great service and amazing food options. Drinks are wonderful.

Yelp
Meg and Luke (the owners) are the most friendly and caring people you may meet. They both personally created a special space with delicious food and top notch libations.

Yelp
Minimalist grown up bar, tables, drinks and plates. Low volume, low profile, very quiet chic Next time I'll try the food!

Yelp
Overall rating: 3.5/5 Food (3/5): For drinks we ordered the Avant Garden and Succulent Blood. For food we order the Fried Calamari, Crispy Pork Belly, Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus, Marinated Eggplant (not pictured), and Grilled Peach Burrata. This was enough food for 2 people. We really enjoyed the Crispy Pork Belly, and thought the caramelization was a great touch. The combination of the Memphis rub and jalapeño caramel resulted in the perfect sweet + smoky balance. We wanted to like the other food, but the flavors in the Calamari + Marinara sauce, burrata pesto, and the eggplant tahini simply weren't strong enough, and the resulting taste was bland. The prosciutto wrapped asparagus did have some flavor, but it was just one serving of asparagus wrapped in prosciutto. For $16, we expected more. The drinks were fine, but we did think it was strange that my boyfriend's drink was filled to the brim while mine was about three-quarters full, despite being served in the same glass. Ambience (4/5): The restaurant was cozy, and had a nice homey touch to it. Low lighting, mirrors along the walls, and a bar at the back. Service (4/5): Service was good, and our server was quite attentive and checked on us frequently. I do wish that they would have swapped out our small plates at some point; we used the same ones for all five dishes.

Yelp
First time here and we loved it!! The staff was so friendly and kind, the service was truly exceptional. The place had such a cozy vibe that made you feel right at home. We started with the cauliflower cakes which were amazing! Also had the Mac & Cheese, Spinach & Mushroom Risotto and the Steak. All the dishes were great and came out fast. Highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
One of the best in Brookline! Not only are they known for their amazing drinks, but they have unique appetizers and dishes and it's awesome how they change it up every so often (seasonal) to keep guests coming back for more and for something different to try! For their appetizers, my husband and I highly recommend their octopus, poutine, pork belly bites, and cauliflower cakes. Every time we have family or friends visiting from out of town, I would take them to Parlour and they always love these small bites! For mains, you can never go wrong with their duck dish (but I think that is no longer available since it was on the last season's menu), steak, and squid ink pasta. For drinks, we always order Porch Swing and Summerland, but many of their drinks sound so tasty! What I'm truly grateful for is their amazing customer service. Once, I needed to host a goodbye party for two friends and needed a place to seat around 20 people. Parlour made sure everything went smoothly for us and even called me in advance to make sure they have everything they needed to help serve us on the day of. Not only are they kind, but they truly care and will go above and beyond to make sure they can provide the best!

Yelp
The worst meal I've ever had in Boston Loud rock and roll playing Owner and bartender conversing while we were sitting at the bar waiting for service Very small glass of wine Kale salad was almost inedible My friends steak she said if she wasn't hungry she would not have eaten it Over priced Very confusing concept with Rock and roll. Playing an expensive restaurant If I was more honest I would have asked for my money back Terrible!

Yelp
We went here for a colleague's birthday celebration on a Saturday night. It wasn't super packed for a weekend, but the atmosphere was classy and I think it'd be a solid place for a date night. The drinks were pretty great. I ordered a Porch Swing and a Painkiller, which I would definitely have again. I also had sips of a Summerland and the As Above, So Below which were good but I didn't like them as much as what I had ordered. My only issue with the drinks was that the instant someone finished one, our server would trot over and ask us if we wanted to order something else. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but it happened everytime took the last sip of their alcohol and it made me feel like we were being monitored a little too closely. The food was subpar. I ordered the steak medium rare, while some of my peers got the squid ink pasta. My steak was cooked unevenly, with some of the pieces bordering well done and others looking like they'd been moving a few minutes prior. The feedback on the squid ink pasta was that it had a texture like PlayDoh and wasn't particularly flavorful otherwise. All in all, I think Parlour could be a good place to grab drinks with friends or a date, but I wouldn't recommend the food at its price point (which is similar to other restaurants in the Brookline area)

Yelp
When you first walk in, you're greeted by Megan, one of the two owners. Let me tell you...she's a riot! So funny and a great conversationalist. She'll make you laugh and also help you feel right at home in her and her partner, Luke's, dining room. It feels cozy and classy at the same time. Now for the food...everything was delicious! We had the grilled octopus - fantastic! Poutine, mmmm gravy and cheese on fries. How could you go wrong? It was so yummy! Then we had the amazing pear and gorgonzola ravioli. Wow! The walnut cream sauce was out of this world! Megan was so gracious to ask the kitchen how they prepare it and she wrote the instructions on a piece of paper and gave it to us. I'm definitely going to have to recreate that! We also got the duck cassoulet. The duck confit was so tasty. The meat was umptious and flavorful. The white beans could've used a bit more time cooking, but I just thought of it as a bit more al dente than al dente. Not bad enough to lose a star. I got the blueberry mocktail. It was so refreshing and tasty. Overall, my friends and I had a great time! Go eat there and tell them Chris from San Diego sent you! Thanks, Chad, from Bistro du Midi, for recommending this place!

Yelp
This place is really cool. The vibe is living-room meets modern bar/restaurant. The bartender Luke was our server. He made a "Painkiller" cocktail that was coconut/rum based and topped with Nutmeg and a floral garnish. I was there looking for a drink following a concert at the paradise rock club. I'm glad I stopped by this place. I will be returning to try some more of their offerings. A must try for those looking for a friendly and cozy experience.

Yelp
A great quaint neighborhood spot for a gathering with friends / family or for a date night. We've really enjoyed the times we've dined here. In particular the gnocchi is always a stand out, regardless of what seasonal iteration they have going on. The drinks are creative and well crafted. And the service is kind and attentive. Each time we go, we tell ourselves we have to go back more often! Make a reservation for weekends as they tend to fill!
google avatar

Yelp
What a fantastic spot! The food is next level, service is flawless and the vibe so welcoming. The owners, Luke and Meghan have big hearts and treat everyone like old friends. 10/10, go check it out, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I went here on one of hot Friday. They place didn't turn on AC, we were sweat and have dinner. Drinks are alright, foods are decent. It a really cute place, but will I be back? Maybe I will give them another chance in the winter but not summer.

Yelp
Was in town for the weekend for a concert and to move my nephew into BC. My brother and sister n law had been to Parlour before and suggested we go. Excellent choice. Food and service was outstanding!! Highly recommend and will def go back!

Yelp
First time here. Had a great meal and a great time! The staff and owners were fantastic host. Felt like I had been a regular and they treated us as if we were.

Yelp
Place will be closed within a year. It is unbearable hot in the restaurant, service was beyond awful with just two people working. Food was overpriced, over cooked and the poutine made no sense. Don't go here.

Jean K.

Yelp
A charming restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. A cozy neighborhood gem. I had salmon, cooked to perfection, with interesting sides. My friend had very tasty cauliflower cakes. The atmosphere is warm and lively but it is also possible to have a conversation.

Alicia P.

Yelp
If you don't have hours to spare, don't bother coming here. We let our server know that we were on a time crunch, but he kept pushing us to get food. We got a charcuterie board with just cheese (no meat - because we're all vegetarian). Our server assured us it would be out quickly. We then proceeded to wait another 20mins and eventually let them know that we wanted to just get the check and have the food boxed. When we got our check, we had been charged EXTRA for "just cheese" without the server letting us know that it would be an up charge. When we got our food, it was $20 dollars for a container of food less than the size of my hand. The ambiance was not worth the price, kind of looked like the inside of a party city. But drinks were good!
google avatar

Milo L.

Yelp
If you enjoy seasonal, well crafted menus, bespoke cocktails, and an excellent wine and beer selection, Parlour is the spot for you. Or perhaps, you might be someone who enjoys perfect service. Well, in that case, I'd also recommend Parlour. Owners Meg and Luke are always behind the bar and/or on the floor. Exquisite attention to detail. The employees they choose to staff the bar, dining room, and kitchen are all individuals of the highest quality. Whenever I wish to celebrate a special occasion, or on any given night when I just want to be treated like I am special, you'll find me at Parlour.
google avatar

Yelp
SO GOOD! had a great time and they accommodated such a large party for me which I really appreciated. The drinks were fantastic and so unique! Summerland (with sprinkles!) was delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection. Everything was stellar.

Yelp
We have been enjoying exploring the different restaurants in Brookline, and Parlour was a pleasant surprise. Atmosphere(4/5): Cozy classy atmosphere with half of the tables with comfortable couch cushions. It would be a fun place for a date, and maybe a group of 4-6. The music was nice background music so you are able to have a conversation. Food + Drinks(4/5): We really enjoyed the whimsical cocktail names as well as their taste and will be back to try more. We had the porch swing and death before decaf(would definitely recommend). Appetizers: Poutine with duck confit, brussel sprouts, and confit pork belly. The poutine and pork belly were absolutely fantastic and cooked perfectly. We loved the lamb gravy in the poutine and thought there was a great distribution of cheese curds. Unfortunately, the brussel sprouts were a bit more chewy than we liked and the flavors of pancetta and pecorina didn't quite work(surprisingly). Main Dishes: We had wanted to try the steak but unfortunately they just ran out(we dined on Sunday). We split the Duck Two Ways, and thought they did an excellent job with the dish(crispy for the confit), and perfectly seared for the breast. The prices are slightly high for main dishes, but otherwise we had a great time. Service(5/5): The staff were absolutely fantastic and incredibly friendly/attentive. We were seated immediately with the food coming out promptly. We were checked on throughout the evening, but not to the point of it being annoying.

Yelp
Went to Parlour last night. Seated very quickly, drinks were delish. Had the Chai-tini with chai infused gin. The salmon and chicken dishes were perfectly cooked and very flavorful! Looking forward to dining in again.

Yelp
A little disappointed in the cocktail As Above Way Below, I think it was called something like that It was supposed to be tequila, mixed berries, lime and ginger beer I think it was tequila and fruit juice with a lime on top Unfortunately no mixed berries and I didn't taste any ginger beer Will definitely be back but will choose a cocktail more carefully My husband had the Avant Garden which was a nice treat and we had the cauliflower cakes which were very good and staff was friendly attentive

Lauren M.

Yelp
A creative menu and great service make this one of my favorite (and easiest to recommend) spots for cocktails.

Yelp
Now, listen, to be totally fair I'm sure there's a reason to go to Brookline. I just haven't encountered one yet. What I have encountered is places like Parlour, which pack their names with unnecessary vowels and their menus with unnecessary prices. Appearance-wise, Parlour (and Brookline, come to think of it) have it down. But everything else... Baby lettuce salad: Chopped romaine and caesar dressing. I'm not even joking. Octopus al pastor: Okay, to be fair, it's my fault for ordering this. These words don't belong together. But I imagined some kind of Latin take on grilled octopus. What I got was two soggy tentacles wrapped around grape tomatoes. Really. Whole tomatoes, uncooked, must have accidentally fallen in my dish because I can't imagine a rational human mind thinking this would be a good combination. The salmon was fine. It was also $19 dollars. So, I mean, less fine. I know good Brookline eats are out there. Though they may require a delivery fee.

Anna A.

Yelp
We visited Parlour this evening and it was absolutely delightful! The staff was great and very friendly. Meg and Luke are wonderful! A cozy atmosphere makes for a fun and relaxing, yet elevated experience. I HIGHLY recommend the Spinach and Feta Ravioli... it was amazing. Can't wait to come back when we are back in Boston.
google avatar

Alexandra N.

Yelp
I was excited to see the RB space used for another trendy dining spot, and have high hopes for Parlour in this location. The menu, which was very hard to find online (and so I have attached here), looked delicious - and Parlour did not disappoint. The cocktail list is expansive and offers something for everyone. Craft cocktails are ~my thing~ and Parlour's options for the comparatively low prices was great. The bartender was awesome and drinks came out quickly. The presentation of the cocktails was perfect for my low-scale *cringe* IG influencer stuff *cringe again*. They also have the awesome teal wall (yeah, you've seen it in all the photos) that provides a great contrast for photographing. My only reason for 4 stars is that the menu is a bit small and limited. We enjoyed what we had ordered, but I would like to see some more options (or even specials). We had what I assume was the summer menu, so I am anxious to see what kind of changes we can see for the fall and winter menus.
google avatar

Pavithra R.

Yelp
Loved the quaint little ambience with limited but amazing menu options. Loved their salads and cocktails. Looks like they keep a rotational and seasonal menu.
google avatar

Steph P.

Yelp
Incredible meals and service, so accommodating of us and our infant that we brought along for an early dinner. Highly recommend the salmon and duck. They went out of their way to make a delicious mocktail for me too. Decor is elegant and fun but casual enough. Will go back again soon!

Hannah O.

Yelp
Went here last minute on a Sunday. Was pretty quiet. Drinks were good, bar even made a non-alcoholic version for a friend. Meals were good, but feel a little funny that I was most satisfied with the fries. We were sad to hear they were sold out of both of their menu desserts. Would recommend, but would try other restaurants in the area before I went back.
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
Service and food was amazing. We loved the outdoor seating and ambience. Everything off the specials menu was delicious. The skillet cookie hit the spot. My hubby was a big fan of the drinks.

Carolina L.

Yelp
Meg made our night thank you so so much the service was impeccable. Food was great and the Barbie themed drinks

GourManda E.

Yelp
Meg and Lucas behind the bar took good care of me for a solo dinner and drink. Must try the duck 2 ways as it's definitively scrummy and the octopus, though not as tender as some, had a char on it that transported me to Spain. Will return many more times, I'm sure.

Jeff C.

Yelp
Great cocktails and cool vibe in Brookline. Walkable form our hotel and restaurant. Solid late night choice.
google avatar

Hubert H.

Yelp
This is a nice place, actually. I wish it were a tad cheaper, but I understand prices are high for businesses. Only got a veggie casoulet (vegan) - was done great - but the portion was a bit small. Very tender, baked (?) for quite a while, comes in hot griddle. Definitely used oil in the broth, though at the time it didn't taste so oily. The restaurant is somewhat small, but even then, the clientele was somewhat smaller. Wish there were a greater variety of dishes on the menu. When I got home, I had to heat up a 1/2 can of soup to feel more full. If their prices are higher because of organic or farm-to-table ingredients, they should advertise as such. The drinks looked good, though I didn't have any.

Cara M.

Yelp
Service was poor, one person working the entire restaurant aside from the bar. The one very unpleasant and overworked employee served us and the food was overcooked. Ambiance was great; if it wasn't for the service/food I'd give a better review.
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner last weekend . The food was excellent and the drinks superb. Great locally owned spot . Cant say enough about this spot. The owners are on site and the staff and service was spot on
google avatar

Beth R.

Yelp
We made a reservation for outdoor seating last night at Parlour, but they had us down for inside and had no outdoor seating available (Saturday night). Well, the owner Meg, went out of her way to try to accommodate us. In addition to apologizing profusely, she found seating that could accommodate us, and she paid for a round of drinks and dessert! The food was very good, and the drinks were excellent, and strong. I especially enjoyed the PEI muscles.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
I hope they can pull this together. I went to Regal for years and it suffered from one issue: good/great cocktails and poor and/or inconsistent food. This place has the same dilemma. The bartender is the same guy who has been back there for years and he kills it. The chef I assume is also the same based on the food pushed out. Everyone I know who lived in Coolidge Corner and went to the old Regal always had the same reaction: "I wish the food didn't suck because I'd love that place." Parlour needs to work harder in the food dept but there is such a lack of good options near here that is should be able to make it work with better kitchen staff.
google avatar

Evan J.

Yelp
I was a very frequent customer of the former Regal Beagle and was really pleased to see part of the original team come back together to create Parlour. Things they did really well: excellent drinks, nice variety in the menu, great waitstaff. The thing that is a bit of a miss for me is they got rid of all the flavor of RB. The fun wallpapers, signage, etc. It's the same space in every way that matters except the sense of fun. It grew up and became kind of... hotel-like, which is functional but boring. One other thing: the entrees are wildly different in size at similar price points. They should try to have more consistent volume plating, probably by beefing up the sides. For example you get way more food with the veal milanese vs the bbq chicken. Definitely come for a drink and some apps, maybe just don't stay for dinner until the menu gets tweaked some more.
google avatar

Cristina L.

Yelp
Guys. Come here. My buddy and me went at 1050 pm on a sunday not knowing that the kitchen closed in 10 minutes and the manager/owner(?) was still so nice, made amazing dinner and beer suggestions and was great conversation. The food was also, SO amazing. Wow. Our fish was cooked to perfection and the greens that came along with it were so amazing. I never leave reviews on here and today was one of the few exceptions! 5 stars!
google avatar

Juliana S.

Yelp
I hate leaving negative reviews, but was so surprised by the overall 4 star rating that I wanted to share our experience. Went on a Saturday night and our experience was totally mediocre. My husband and I shared buffalo broccoli, a salad, something called "savory cheesy fudge," and the vegetarian cassoulet. The cassoulet was pretty bland. The "cheese fudge" was great in theory but tasted distinctly like the processed cheese in Handi-Snacks from my youth. The atmosphere was also meh compared to Regal Beagle. It got better once they realized they should turn down the lights (after about an hour into our dinner), but it was awkwardly bright for a date night spot before then. And to top it all off, it was surprisingly expensive for a lackluster meal. The main redeeming qualities were the service and the cocktails. I would come back for a drink before or after a movie, but not do dinner again until they make some real changes.

Christopher K.

Yelp
We went here for dinner last night just having moved to the area around the time this restaurant opened. The staff were all very friendly and helpful/attentive. We started dinner with a couple delicious cocktails from their varied drinks menu - I enjoyed the Champs-Élysée with a rich cognac and bitters flavor that was well-balanced. For dinner my wife and I shared the chicken donuts, the red beets and the steak with mushroom goulash and frites. Everything was delicious - the steak had great flavor and was cooked to perfection. The novelty of the chicken donuts was both fun and delicious. Everything was balanced in flavors and we finished every last bit. We were pretty full but shared the funfetti churros for dessert - freshly made and with delicious peach dipping sauce. A great finish to an all around great culinary experience. 5 stars for the dinner and service! Great place with great potential for the future. Since it's a new place I will leave some constructive feedback too - the noise level was slightly above comfort for us - we could still have a conversation but we both noted the high ambient noise. Some more wall decoration or diffusers on the ceiling may help this - also turning down the ambient music might encourage quieter conversation. But maybe there is nothing that can be done either - it was the only thing we could think of for improvement in the future. We'll definitely be back here soon!

Janet M.

Yelp
I love this place and have had many wonderful cocktails and dinners here with friends. Outstanding service and food. (Especially love the burrata caprese salad.)

Lindsay N.

Yelp
Great service & mocktail, but the food was lacking. The pasta in the mac & cheese was over-cooked and tasted like it was from a box. The meatball on the small plates menu wasn't seasoned enough.
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
The environment of this place is so... Cool. Food and drink were both good, but the people and the ambiance were both excellent, would go back any day. Also the poutine was top notch.

Melli S.

Yelp
My first experience at Parlour was last night and it was incredible. The service was 5 star, the food was 5 star, the drinks were 5 star and the atmosphere was lovely. Highly recommend!

Yelp

Yelp
The drinks and service are amazing. I had Witness Marks 12 which is cherry-infused bourbon, carpano antica, cold brew, chocolate bitters, which I thought would be way too sweet but it was just perfect. I also had a South African Pinotage which I can not wait to go back for. I didn't eat but the persons food next to me looked AMAZING
