"For a small city, Charleston has a really solid collection of rooftop bars. This one sits at the top of Market Pavilion Hotel, and overlooks Market Street and historic Charleston with a view stretching to Cooper River. The pool here adds a slightly trendy vibe, and there's actually a pretty extensive food menu (apps, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches), making it a particularly nice spot for an afternoon drink (and bite, if you're hungry). It's also a great sunset place, and you could come here for cocktails before dinner at 5Church, which is conveniently located across the street."

10 Best Rooftop Bars & Restaurants in Charleston | Condé Nast Traveler

"Coming up to the rooftop Pavilion Bar, you’ve already had time to be charmed by the period looks of the Market Pavilion Hotel , its impressive reproductions dating all the way back to 2002. The monochrome-tiled bar area shares its vantage point with a bijoux swimming pool and attendant sun loungers, which makes for a pleasing resort-like atmosphere on sunny days. The drink menu focuses on two cocktails in particular: mojitos and martinis. The former offers typically tropical variations, with strawberry and mango among them, while the latter has even more choices, with rum and tequila interpretations of the classic at the more experimental reaches of the list." - Paul Oswell

The view is good! Service was ok at the bar and excellent at the table! “The most popular item on the menu” is Tuna Tower for $32 was just ok, really nothing special. However beef kebab was really good! Drinks are ok. Good for one-time visit and a few pictures!

Visited here yesterday for my dad’s birthday. Our server told us the old fashions were really good here. I’m a bartender and so was the three other people that were with me. We’ve all been in the industry for ten plus years. First off the old fashion came with grenadine cherries and four scoops of ice. Mind you we had asked if they had the cubes and the maraschino cherries. Asked all the questions and the server said yes they had that. Clearly that was not true. We had also ordered skinny margaritas which was straight sour mix. We were at a table and decided to move to the bar to talk to the bartender. We asked to remake the old fashions he muddled the orange and the cherry into the old fashion. We then saw the tab. It was $34.75 for an old fashion. That price would have been fine if it was a hands down perfect old fashion. Price is kinda high but I understand we are in downtown charelston and we were on a rooftop. So I understand why the cocktail would’ve costed that much. However for the type of cocktail that was given was not up to par. I will not be returning back. The server proceeded to argue with us. Just horrible customer service through and through. The bartender was great and handled the situation appropriately however the server did not.

Google
Terrible service. As visitors from out of state, we were looking forward to visiting this bar since we had heard such good things from others. But it was a huge let-down. We arrived at 9:40, approached the bar, and the bartender couldn't have looked more annoyed at our presence if he tried. His only words to us? "Last call." We quickly ordered two martinis and paid immediately. No "thank you", or "enjoy!" - nothing. We found a table and before we even had a sip of our drinks, two different servers stopped by our table and sternly told us they close at 10 (aka: they were kicking us out). While we realized upon arrival that they close at 10, we figured we would at least be allowed to enjoy our $16 drinks and the view. Instead we were unwelcome and practically shoved out the door.

Google
Never got around to ordering a drink. The bartender was so super weird I felt like I might be on a game show, and the only reason I'm writing this review is in case there's a secret prize for enduring the strange treatment. He never said a word and tried communicating with us via head nods only. Bizarre. 3 stars for nice bathrooms and cool view

Google
We were in downtown and in the mood to check out a rooftop bar. This is easily one of the coolest. You walk into a nice fancy restaurant snd head to the back last a hotel check in desk. Take the elevato straight up and are met with a cool pool bar. Small pool with some chairs and then around it are several high top tables and a small bar. Appetizers are good and drinks delicious. Great spot.

Google
Nice view and cozy atmosphere. The waiter performed his duties to a minimum level. There was even a plastic straw from previous visitors on our table. I don't want that kind of service anymore. All dishes are made of plastic, even for wine. So never come back.

Google
Decent rooftop bar up here. Came Sunday afternoon and the view from up here is somewhat nice, better than some of the other rooftop bars in the area. The bar itself is small and only a few seats to sit there but there are tables around the rooftop. Vibe wise, it’s okay. But their service could be improved—the bartender was not friendly at all and rushed to take guests’ order with a foul mood, and there was no host to help coordinate which tables were available to sit or who was next to get one. And the servers didn’t seem to care much either. Drink wise, we ordered mojitos—-it was terrible! It was full of lime juice and sprite or some lemon lime soda, barely could taste any rum or club soda—overall just a bad mojito drink.

Google
This felt like the best kept secret roof top bar to stumble upon. Enjoy the views! Refreshing cocktails and delicious appetizers. Upscale atmosphere. The pool and lounge chairs are for hotel guests only.

Yelp
We stopped by for something to eat after walking around town and we are happy we found this place. It is up on the roof with a nice view. The service was very good and really enjoyed everything we ordered. They were all so yummy!

Yelp
Best roof top views in Charleston! Order the Tuna Tower; don't look at the price. Just get it! It's loaded with fresh ahi tuna and local CHS crab! Then order yourself a Sweet Tea Martini Enjoy the views and impeccable service. We come here every single time we are in Charleston.

Yelp
I had friends visiting from Australia this weekend. They had few requirements when I asked what activities they'd like to do, but among the 'musts' was a visit to a rooftop bar. Market Pavillion Bar has seen several menu changes in the last few years. Covid changed the landscape of offerings, so I get it. I used to enjoy the duck nachos, but the days of fun appetizers and swizzle drinks at this venue are long gone. I took my friends up here for the view. It didn't disappoint. But after four Dirty Bird Martinis and a couple of Pavillion Punches, we were well over $100 without food. I still want to love this place, but I cannot get past the fact that other venues can 'achieve the pour' for less money and still turn out a good drink. What I do know is that if you want to pay for a view, this is the place to check out, even if it's only for one cocktail, before moving on to the next venue.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Staff is wonderful as always I come here often and it never disappoints. Great food and great drinks with an amazing view of the bridge. This is a seat yourself rooftop so seating can be limited if you come at a busy time but you can always get a drink from the outside bar and wait for a table to open up but hands down always a great experience!

Yelp
We walked in and immediately we felt the hostility in the atmosphere. We sat and waited for 10 minutes without a hello greeting and no service so that's why I'm giving this restaurant/bar one star

Yelp
There is an expectation of exceptional service and breathtaking views at The Pavilion Bar but unfortunately that was not what we experienced during our stay. Given their reputation and the price point on drinks and food, we wanted an amazing experience. Here was our truth. Our bartender was either standoffish and often made us feel rushed when we didn't know exactly what we wanted. The staff around was not friendly to us and overall; the views and ambiance were fine, but not great. We wanted to celebrate a special occasion and feel the warmth and didn't get it.

Yelp
Visiting Charleston and this place looked promising as the other many places I tried and loved. Not only their menu was basic, the drinks were in plastic cups which you would not expect for such a place.

Robyn M.

Yelp
Jordan is an awesome server! Atmosphere was beautiful, and great music playing I wish we would have found this place first!

Yelp
In my limited experience as a tourist in beautiful Charleston this maybe the best view of the harbor in town ! It really is something else! That said, going up to the bar isn't very straightforward. It's a little chaotic...there isn't a person taking you to a table...before or after you get into the elevator to the bar. The tables are first come first serve, which is just fine if you don't mind the randomness and it's not yet packed. I came here for the view, and stayed because they had a desert that was interesting to me. Over all, service is not bad, I think they need some help but who doesn't theses days. As a person who loves views, this one overcomes any minor negatives or inconvenience. Wouldn't hesitate to com back!

Yelp
Ambiance was great. Our waitress was nice and we had drinks that were made right. Chairs were uncomfortable, but the view was worth it

Yelp
This is a true example of hidden in plain site! I have traveled to Charleston, SC many times in the past 20 years but it wasn't till recently I discovered this roof top bar! The drinks are delicious but the ambiance and views are worth noting. If you're everything walking down East Bay Street trying to find a place during happy hour, hop on the elevator to the roof top bar!
google avatar

Katherine M.

Yelp
Great rooftop atmosphere and drink options. Confusing seating though, there's no host and it's first come first serve with some fighting over the limited tables.

Michelle D.

Yelp
Wanted to love it. Ordered 2 old fashioned with Woodford. The bill was 67$. We will never be back!

Avery P.

Yelp
Rudest waiter ever at the top bar! He didn't smile once and seemed very annoyed by our presence. The place was beautiful but the bartender ruined our mood. We our locals and have never had this experience before.

Jen C.

Yelp
What a great hotel w high expectations of an even better rooftop experience. Drinks were not good and bartender, Jr, Mr Personality...was worse. To top it off I got a free black hair in my martini, not even an I'm so sorry, this one is on the house. Work on getting people that represent the excellence you think you should receive when you walk thru the grand entrance.
google avatar

Jennie A.

Yelp
Great views and good service. The prices are ok (a bit high but nothing crazy). We had the fish sandwich which was cooked nicely and flavorful. I would definitely eat it again.
google avatar

Theresa G.

Yelp
In a nutshell, don't come here to be blown away by great service and delicious food. The food especially taste like frozen meals bought in bulk. The prices seemed a bit high for the quality. We spent $100+ on a crappy pizza and icecream plus a few drinks. That being said - the views were gorgeous and the drinks were fine (albeit overpriced)... and we were able to snag a table at 7:30 pm. Just know what you're getting into before you go.

Yelp
The Rooftop Bar & Restaurant @ Market Pavillion Hotel view of the city with music and incredible ambiance. Our server Merwin was Filipino and was fantastic!

Yelp
We stopped in here for a few drinks before dinner... This bar is on the roof, about the Grill 225 Restaurant in a hotel.  The views from here are really nice!  You can see the ocean, the bridge, Sullivan's Island, etc. Jordan, our server was awesome!  Very friendly and helpful! They have a decent martini menu, cocktail list and wine list.  The only issue I have is their nasty, plastic glasses.... since this is next to a pool deck, they probably don't want glass up there.  I'm fine with that, but they really need to find better glasses than what they're using. Definitely recommend stopping in, if only for the views!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and great views. We went here for a drink before going to dinner. The views of the city were great and the drinks were reasonably priced. The pool is nice on the rooftop. Looked like it could be a really fun place to stay.
google avatar

Ara A.

Yelp
Came for after dinner drinks and the roof top seemed like a good place. The service is ok the drinks are good. Good view of market and east bay and the Ashley. With all the plexi glass that was put up during covid they turned the outdoor into indoor.

Yelp
This is the first online review I've ever done. I like to handle matters personally with management, but this deserves to be out there. Myself and 6 of our friends were refused access to the bar because of the shirt I was wearing, as you can see in the picture. I was told that the shirt was politically offensive. If the ownership of this establishment thinks this shirt is offensive, maybe they should pack up shop and move to another country. Our son is a Citadel grad and proudly serves this country, so we proudly wear patriotic clothing to support him and all of the other service members in these great United States. If you're a patriotic person, don't waste a single penny in this place. BTW, I bought the shirt from PrintedKicks.com if you want to get yourself one.

Yelp
Just because you are up on the rooftop, it doesn't mean the price of food should be sky high for something that is just meh! Scant grilled chicken added to the greek salad cost an additional $9 to add to a salad of mixed greens, olives, feta, cucumbers pepperoncini and 2 pieces of mandarin orange only. The salad had a good amount of mixed greens and did seem endless. There was lack of flavor on the chicken and it was tough to chew. Umbrella protected tables didn't shade all the sun and plastic panels surrounded the rooftop fencing. Waiter was okay and got our food out in enough time for us to catch a boat! The place has a pseudo swanky vibe! If you dine near the pool where you are facing it you sometimes catch birds taking a sip and hotel guests strutting around in beachwear. Bathrooms are nice with individual booths. Elevators are slow and the group of us had to take a freight elevator down. Trying to find the rooftop can also be a little tricky! Go with someone who can navigate you there if you must eat upstairs or go somewhere else to get a tastier and cheaper meal.

Yelp
Perfect mood. Perfect food. Perfect wine. I was here for my birthday and it gave me the most beautiful sunset. While Vendue is more of "let's party" vibe, Pavilion Bar is much more chill. 200% recommend!

Yelp
If you're looking for a place with great views for a drink or two, this place would be it. If you're looking for good food I would go somewhere else. We went on a Saturday around 5pm & it was very crowded. You seat yourself and the have full table service. This place was clearly understaffed. They had 1 waiter for all of the tables. The waiter was really nice & friendly but it took forever to put our order in. Our drinks were good. We ordered the Greek salad and the crispy chicken BLT. We actually really liked the chicken sandwich. It was surprisingly really tasty. Had a nice crunch to it. The fries were also crispy which I really liked. The Greek salad was fine. Nothing spectacular. Overall this place has amazing views & decent food. Great spot to hang out with friends to watch the sunset!

Brittany H.

Yelp
Excellent service on the rooftop bar. Seating is divided by plexiglass so it's pretty quiet and not windy, but because of that, it doesn't really feel like a rooftop.

Donna S.

Yelp
Phenomenal food choices Appetizers large enough as an entree Service was impeccable Drinks were unique and delicious as well
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
The rooftop has a great view, we had a delicious, bloody Mary. They didn't really have a brunch menu which I guess I was expected so we opted to just have a cocktail and enjoy the view and move on.
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
Very nice rooftop bar with gorgeous views of Charleston and the water. Cocktails are pricey with the lowest priced champagne at $14/glass. It was a hot day and it would have been nice to have some fans up on the roof. The other thing that shocked us was the number of people coming up there looking like total bums. For a hotel that is very classy, and expensive, it seems they would have some sort of dress code for the people coming in and out of there. I would highly recommend this Rooftop bar for a special occasion or cocktails with friends.

Joseph D.

Yelp
ordered the Asian salad.. worst salad ever. totally unimaginative. 21$ for tomatoes, iceberg, egg and sesame seed. your chef isnt doing a good job! here's a free lesson bro: add edamame, carrot, shredded red and green cabbage, and quinoa. and oh! ever hear of salt and pepper?
google avatar

Joanna A.

Yelp
Great place to take a seat for drink or two. Food was unremarkable, we had fish tacos, chicken quesadilla and Greek salad. Service was understaffed but nice. I'd def come back but just for drinks.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
2 stars because the view is great, it is a rooftop view. Don't come here if you are looking for good food. My husband ordered the $27 sushi that obviously came from the refrigerator. There was a chill to the sushi roll and was obviously pre-made hours before. I would not eat it if it were free to me, and I didn't want to try it. It looked like it was in the refrigerator to long, a little dehydrated. I ordered the shrimp on croissant sandwich with a side salad. The croissant was stale. The shrimp salad inside was fine. I ended up just eating the shrimp salad with my green salad, that croissant was definitely not worth the calories. If you are looking for a view, then stop in. If you are looking for a great meal, pass.

Yelp
The Pavilion Bar is stylish and posh, but I have to agree with Yelper Johnny T. that what it's really all about is the spectacular view. Located atop the building that houses Grill 225, you first enter Grill 225 and go to the elevator where you will note a button designation for "Pavilion Bar." Though a beautiful setting everyone seems a bit snobbish and arrogant about it all. It does have a nice looking pool, umbrella tables and a decent bar. However, the bar drinks are rather expensive for what you with cocktails around $15-$16 dollars and not all that skillfully crafted. But for the view and general setting, I can go Three Stars on it.

David S.

Yelp
Great spot for a rooftop drink and apps. Nice place to relax and take in the views. Drinks were good and good service.
google avatar

Rod B.

Yelp
Jordan, the handsome young waiter man had lots of tables. He somehow made each of us feel special. He took our pictures at sunset. Gerald, the GM and Nick the owner need to hang on to that guy. Drinks were very good. We didn't order any food. The sunset was perfect. Not crowded at all on a Sunday night. But was quite crowded on Friday afternoon.
google avatar

Dunn F.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with a seat on the rooftop (well, unless you don't have nice shade). The ambience is unmatched. Justin was our server and he was very busy with several tables, but he managed nicely. We went for a pre-dinner martini and it did not disappoint.
google avatar

Christy M.

Yelp
The hubs got two beers and I ordered a mocktail. It was essentially pineapple juice, nothing noteworthy. The view here is great, the service was pretty sub par unfortunately. We were also a group of like 10 and we were brought one check. Not everyone had cash so it was a big hassle. Apart from the view, nothing really that would draw me back at this point.
google avatar

Kathryn J.

Yelp
We thought the service, drinks, and food were all fantastic. I loved my sweet tea martini. The tuna tower was absolutely amazing. Even my husband, who isn't a fan of rice(or tuna), loved it. Ha! I'd definitely go back just for that. The gentlemen that greeted us in the gorgeous lobby was so kind and helpful. The restaurant downstairs looks beautiful as well.
google avatar

CheIsea C.

Yelp
Great bar to sit by the pool and soak up some sun. The drinks are great. Make sure you don't go when an event is going on downtown, or you will be waiting for a table or spot at the bar for a long time.
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
Nice view. Ordered 2 old fashioned with Woodford Reserve. Cost $65. What a joke. Not even made correctly. Orange wedge, maraschino cherry and plastic glass. Overlooked when we got the drinks and then got the bill. Rip off please avoid if you looking for a good cocktail with a view.

Mike J.

Yelp
Love the view . Go here every time in Charleston approximately 4 times a year. Went today. @ 5:00PM. Service so bad and server, Female , did not give name and I did not get it , Her service was awful. Very unfriendly Could care less if you were there . Ridiculous,,, ,she could make so much more tip money,, it's just a little more effort . We were prepare to order more Drinks and food , but left after one , finally had to run her down for check to get and out of there . Bypass this one until they improve the Staff.
google avatar

Beth D.

Yelp
tl;dr - great views, pricy menu. The sky was clear and the sun was shining so we stopped in for a drink. The views were great. It was a really pretty view of Charleston. The drinks, in my opinion, were not worth the price. They weren't bad or poor quality. But they weren't "the best drink I've ever had." My Bloody Mary was simply okay. I asked for extra spicy and it seemed like an extra tablespoon of Tabasco was just dumped in, but not mixed. If the weather is nice on a future trip to Charleston, I'll return for the views.

Natalie B.

Yelp
View and atmosphere were amazing, which is what you are paying for. Service was excellent! Food was good but overpriced. I would recommend stopping here for a drink and app.

Keith B.

Yelp
Great View, Slow Service Pavilion Bar is on the rooftop of the hotel and there are nice views all around. There is lots of space and nice tables with umbrellas for shade. The drinks are good. But everything was incredibly slow. I would definitely go back, but I would make sure that I had plenty of time.

C K.

Yelp
Terrible service. Little guy with the long curly hair and orthopedic shoes was smug, arrogant and deceptive. After waiting 30 minutes to get a second drink, I finally went to the bar to get a drink. When I did, he said something rude to me. Ignored me until then. So many great places to go in Charleston. Would definitely avoid this crap hole.

Yelp
After going on a carriage tour and walking around town, we hit this place up to grab drinks before we walked some more. To get to place, we followed the marble entrance to the elevators and made our way up to the rooftop. We had a big group, but found a table to sit all 7 of us comfortably at a table. I felt that we waited a while to get some service, but our waitress eventually got to us with massive menus for us to order some drinks. Husband and I both got mojitos. I opted for the original and he got the mango. We both enjoyed our drinks, but found them both to be overpriced. Each mojito was around $14-$16. The straws they provided also drove most at the table nuts. The city has a rule about paper straws, but these kept getting soggy by the time you get to the bottom of your drink. Drink faster, I guess? I'm pretty sure none of us ordered a second round and so we asked for our check. The waitress never made a point to ask us how to split it and just grouped the 7 of us under one tab. Eventually, we got that taken care of but I think it would have saved everyone time if she asked us before getting a tab printed. Oh well, we enjoyed the view at least!

Kristal R.

Yelp
It clearly says they close until 12am We showed up at 10pm on a Saturday night and a grouchy man said 10 more minutes until we close! They should at least get their hours of operation right.

Yelp
After a lovely walking tour of historical Charleston, on a beautiful summer June day...coming to the Pavilion bar overlooking the bridge, and river and sailboats with such a lovely breeze is a perfect place to spend early afternoon.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
The Pavilion Bar has some amazing views of the Holy City that can't be beat; as well as a lovely pool (that I'm always tempted to jump in). But the service here has lacked each time I've been there; almost like the bartender didn't care if you were tipping or not. Each time we've been we have had to wait on an uninvolved bartender to come over and get our drink order and when we did finish one drink we had to wait again for the next drink or the check. Service here has been standoffish at best; so while it's an impressive view it's not a great service experience.
