"Pepe’s is a food trailer in a small parking lot near 7th and Lamar. The menu is short but focused—birria tacos, quesabirria, birria quesadillas, tortas, and consomé. We enjoyed the birria tacos and quesabirria here—the meat was tender and well-spiced, and the tortillas were crispy. The salsas here were not our favorite, but then again, we don’t usually find ourselves needing a whole lot of salsa on a taco that’s just been through a warm consomé bath." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

"This Clarksville trailer offers hearty beef birria that isn’t too nap-inducing in all the usual forms: tacos, tortas, and quesadillas. You can even build your own taco by ordering the truck’s light and flavorful consomme base, tortillas, and beef for just a dollar extra. To-go orders can be placed online or over the phone, and third-party delivery options are available via Uber Eats. There are tables available for on-site outdoor dining." - Trey Gutierrez

Google
We visited a little bit after midnight and got the combo it was very tasty plenty of onion and cilantro for only $12 and a short, five minute wait I would definitely recommend this place the staff was also friendly.

Google
Looked up some reviews before coming here the pictures of the food looks amazing! I decided to come I am visiting Austin so I walked to it I was a bit annoyed about having no good place to eat and it was very hot outside despite all that the food came out and it was as good as I hopped it would be definitely in the top of the quesobirria tacos I’ve had in a while also tried the Ramon birria soup that was good but I wouldn’t buy again I’m just not a big Ramon guy. But definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in the area!!

Google
This place is FIRE! I had the Birria taco combo and my friend got the birria ramen. Tacos were so delicious and so well put together where they weren’t falling apart as you dipped them. Birria came in a large container with so much meat. Very delicious! Pricing is great here too! Highly recommend

Keke Grays

Google
birria taco combo was so dry no flavor barley ANY onions or cilantro on the tacos, the consome was so BLAND. very disappointed!!

Bilal Javed

Google
Birria Tacos were great. Although they forgot to put in onions and cilantro. So I had to ask for them separately. Keep that in mind when ordering.

Eric Steffens

Google
I was working across the street from this place, went to have lunch and it was so good I went back after work. Highly recommend this place

Megan Yost

Google
Shells were cold and soggy, meat was all pure fat, the birria dip was stored in a huge pot in the back of a car that’s parked in the parking lot. Had huge chunks of fat in it. Guy told us they were out of onion and cilantro but when I asked if he could remake them for us our new ones had onion and cilantro. Just bad, don’t risk it because there are a few good reviews. Find a better taco place.

Andrew Brown

Google
My birria tacos had a huge long black hair in them. Glad I saw it before I ate it so I was able to throw the entire meal away promptly. I got my refund however I'm never ordering from here again. Choose a more reliable/safe option.

Yelp
Best birria tacos in Austin. Coming from a person from LA who knows tacos!! The meat was tender and flavorful as fucc!!! CONSOME was on point, and they got some bomb ass Salsa too. They didn't take forever either. Only complaint is parking but for tacos this good I'll park 5 blocks down and walk my happy ass. Pull up and get ya issue!! If u don't pull up on my boy PEPE and get YA ISSUE YOU ARE SLEEPIN!!

April D.

Yelp
The tacos were probably the best I have ever had! Absolutely amazing!!!cheesy, crispy and full of flavor. The dipping sauce for the tacos, chefs kiss!

Chastitie A.

Yelp
This is hands down the best place to get Birria tacos in Austin. I don't even live on that side of town anymore, but I still make the drive because nothing compares. The food is super fresh, always cooked to perfection, and amazing flavor! Make sure to go early because they can run out

AJ B.

Yelp
Literally the best quesabirria tacos I've had to date! I stopped here between 2-3am after a night of partying and got some of the best tacos I've had in Texas! This hidden gem is truly hidden at night, as it's a little truck in a small parking lot. The menu is small with only birria items, it's straight to the point and clearly their area of expertise. I ordered my food is was, prepared quickly and wrapped with care. I traveled over 30 minutes to get home and eat and the food traveled so well! You could tell it was made with love! The consome is seasoned so well and the green sauce is a perfect pairing.

Christian G.

Yelp
Placed an order an hour before closing for pickup. Showed up to the place and they were closed. Update your hours if you're going to be closing early. And definitely do not take peoples money.

Ailyne P.

Yelp
Pepe's Tacos blew me away with their quesabirria! The beef was so tender and juicy, and the cheese just melted in my mouth. Great food and speedy service. Definitely coming back for more!

Yelp
2024-02-22. Pepe's Tacos. Austin, TX. Pepe's Tacos is actually a taco stand at the mouth of the parking lot of Frozen Rolls Creamery. They have two large picnic tables that make up all their seating. We came for the Quesobirria tacos, but when we saw the menu, they also had a Birria Ramen. Another smart take on serving up food with ultra high margins... Did we try it? Of course we did! For those who are new to Quesobirria tacos, you dip the crunchy taco into the consomé soup. They're served fresh and hot, and if you eat them right away, you'll get that great cheese pull. Quesobirria Tacos. Three tacos with consomé soup and a garlic avocado aioli. $15. The tacos were pretty good. The beef was flavorful and tender. The taco shell was nice and crispy and the amazing thing about it was that it was not wet as some are. The consomé was greatly lacking in my opinion. Not much more than beef stock watered down. The avocado aioli was really good. Rich and creamy with just the right amount of garlic flavor making it prominent but not overpowering. The dish also came with a cup of rice and a cup of beans. Overall, 3 stars. Birria Ramen. This is essentially the Birria Beef, the broth it was cooked in, and Ramen. Since the Birria beef for the tacos were flavorful, I expected the same for the Ramen; and Pepe's didn't disappoint! The beef was not shredded like it was with the tacos, you got entire chunks of it! But it was still tender and flavorful. The ramen was not the fresh type, but I prefer the dried ramen so it worked out for me. They provided a side of onions, cilantro, and limes to complement the ramen and that paired well with the Birria broth. $12. 4 stars overall. Quesobirria tacos are pretty big in Texas, they're all over the place and both restaurants and food trucks sell them. They're pricey regardless of where you are (Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas) and sell for $15 (for 3). While I have yet to find a place that has both good tacos and good consomé, if you're in Texas, I highly recommend you try them. And if you're at Pepe's, I would recommend the Ramen over the tacos. If You would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

Rita N.

Yelp
I was too excited to try and it wasn't all that good. I ordered the 3 birria taco combo and birria torta. The consume was watered down. I've been on the toilet since lunch. The torta was small. I forgot to take a photo. There are much better places. Looks can be deceiving. Safe to say I won't be returning. This is not authentic Mexican.

Brizeida H.

Yelp
The best food, birria. Service is great, outdoor seating. Great ambiance and great cooks! Loved everything, definitely coming again

Michael N.

Yelp
This place is top-notch. It's the go-to place for many Austinites to get Birria tacos (for good reason). The food truck is easy to miss if you're driving by on a busy day, but this is a must-try for visitors. The tacos taste great and the staff are really friendly.

Eric R.

Yelp
First time trying birra tacos so I was really excited. I've watched a ton of videos on YouTube because I eventually want to make them. I figured I'd try them before making them first. The food was good but it tasted like a brisket taco. The consumé for the tacos was just the grease from the brisket. I expected more spice, seasoning and flavor based on videos I've seen but it was still good. I just expected something different I guess.

Shayer S.

Yelp
Small specialized menu. Taco de Birria w/ cheese was so tasty! The beef was well seasoned and the deep fried corn shell was fantastic. The sauce was also bomb. We had to go get seconds. Service was really great and the food came quickly. Some cons - no prices on the menu, very small for the price, each person would need 3 of these for it to be a meal. Combo doesn't specify how many or what it comes with, non combo order doesn't come with consome (though the person was nice enough to give it to us for free). Overall though, the food was so good that we will definitely be back when the Birria cravings some back!

Robert K.

Yelp
Had a father son long weekend in Austin and ate are way through the city. We both agreed that the best meal we had was at Pepe's.

Isabel R.

Yelp
The best Quesabrilla Tacos in Austin! Every time I go here I'm never disappointed. The food is always high quality. The service is always really good as well. They specialize in Quesabrilla tacos, but also serve quesadillas. I like when restaurants specialize in some thing, it means they've taken their time to master the recipe. I've tried both items on the menu, & personally I think they're both good but the beef in the Quesabrilla is on another level. This is a tiny food truck in the parking lot of an ice cream shop. I like the ambience because if you decide to sit at the picnic tables next to the taco truck, it's a quiet tucked away gem. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you make the drive & try these for yourself!

Courtney B.

Yelp
My favorite tacos ever! So cheesy and the meat melts in my mouth that's how soft it is! They are pretty fatty but for me that is no problem. You gotta try! Be careful parking though you might have to park in the lot next to it

Christy D.

Yelp
This is one of the best food trucks in Austin!! Friendly staff and their birria tacos are the best I've ever had.

Hang N.

Yelp
The Bria tacos and Bria ramen was great ! We had to order to go because the heat outside was unbearable in Austin. This place was so good we ate here twice !

Katherine S.

Yelp
This place has great birria tacos! The only thing is I think the service could be better. There's been a couple times where I've put in my order and then go and get it and then as I am pulling in i get it a text my order has been cancelled. Thats the only frustrating part but I understand it's because they have run out of consome usually. I would definitely go back but definitely not an hour and half or hour before they close

Derek R.

Yelp
Had a trip down to Austin and heard great things from a friend about Pepe's. Hands down the best birria I've had. First day we tried the tacos and they were AMAZING. From the salsa to the consomé to the tacos themselves. This food truck deserves SO much recognition, they nail everything. It was so good we went back a few days later on our trip to try the tortas and quesadillas. Again they did not disappoint. Somehow the consomé tasted better this time which I didn't think was possible. They can count on me to come back again the next time I'm in austin

Keanna G.

Yelp
Good tacos 100%!! Location not so good! Definitely recommend going to just grab and go!

Kristy A.

Yelp
I passed by my best friend's job and saw Pepe's taco, had to stop by.. I ordered taco combo . It taste like pork meat, and didn't have flavor much but it wasn't bad. They made it to go. Not much meat in taco. Cheesy melt was good.. I like beef meat better than pork....

Mark S.

Yelp
Amazing Birra Tacos! Even delivered! It was outstanding! Nothing like your typical taco. Absolutely nothing like torchy's or other gringo oriented taco establishments . Absolutely delicious.

Josh D.

Yelp
Love Pepe's! I'm about to drive 30 minutes from Steiner Ranch right now honestly to get some of these cause I'm craving some birria tacos so bad. And this place can't be beat!

Anvaya N.

Yelp
Pepe Tacos is an amazing food truck! They were right out Bandit Cafe. We were at Bandit for a coffee and saw huge crowds heading to this truck. To my surprise was Was Pepe's Taco. The truck was busy and the crowd kept coming. It was on my list to try and this was pleasant surprise. We tried the Birria Tacos and Consume. Taco could have been more crispy, it was rather on softer side for my liking and what I have had in the past in LA. The consume was great. Overall service was fast and the team was friendly and attentive. The food was and would definitely visit them again.

Soujanya G.

Yelp
Really good taco combo - comes with some of the best birria tacos I've had in the area. They were out of the side and the owner was generous enough to offer me an extra taco as a replacement. Must try for austin!

Meagan C.

Yelp
Great Birria Tacos! Best in town. Super fast service. Our only complaint was how disgusting the tables are. Seems like they haven't been cleaned in months. Hose them down, and we'll be back for sure!

Serena N.

Yelp
One of the BEST queso birria tacos I've ever consumed so far! I'm not from around here, so my friends and I were fortunate enough to have a friend who resides in Austin to show us Pepe's Tacos!! Such a good quick meal after going to Lake Austin. I'm from the Bay Area and there's so many spots doing birria dipping tacos but a lot do not compare to this! The consome broth is soooo good!! We ordered so much, but 3 tacos per order per person was just enough. Ok but now the orange sauce! LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THAT ORANGE SAUCE. It's spicy LOL I can handle my spice but this orange sauce has a good kick to it. I'd open the taco up and add the orange sauce in between and then dip the whole taco in consome broth! I recommend coming here for your dipping taco cravings!!!

Kayla B.

Yelp
Best Birria tacos In town! I love that it's a food truck and you can just take it to go.

Christina H.

Yelp
Not many places will I do an "insta-review", which means doing a review the instant after (or during) a meal in my world. However, Pepe's Tacos is one of them. I can't believe how savory, flavorful, & amazing Pepe's is. With essentially only 3 menu items, not a single one misses: Tacos de Birria, Tortas, & /or their Quesadillas. If you didn't know, Birria is the star of the show. The Birria is perfectly slow cooked, savory, tender and makes the dish. It's served in ALL of their dishes, including in the Consome. What is Consome? Consome is a flavorful soup that's been slow cooked with Birria. Pepe's likes to serve it with their menu items to complement as a dip or soup. FYI: They don't do traditional Birria (which is traditionally made of goat meat), so no worries here!

Cristian V.

Yelp
"When you dip I dip we dip" Highlights: *Birria Tacos *Tortas *Consome Review: Birria has been the new food trend for the past few months and a lot places are starting to recreate this dish. Pepe's has been one of the few spots that has stood out because of their delicious tacos and consome. Their birria tacos are delicious, cheesy and savory. The onion and cilantro gives it that nice freshness to balance out the fatty taco. Add some lime and salsa to really highlight the flavors. Finally pro tip is to dip your taco in the consome to get the full flavor of the broth paired with the taco to take it to the next level. Can't wait to go back and try their tortas. Rating: 8/10 Taco Combo- Birria tacos (3) with mozzarella topped with onion and cilantro with a side of consome. Yelp
Stopped by to try out their taco birria plate for lunch. It took a bit to get my order taken, there was only one person working in the food truck. If your in a rush I would recommend placing an order ahead for pick up. My tacos was served nice, hot and fresh. First I tried the birria as it was and it tasted pretty plain. Then I tried it with the green salsa and lime served with the plate that truly elevated the flavors and made a huge difference. Something to consider of your a picky eater.

Hailey W.

Yelp
Very disappointed in Pepe's tacos.. was looking for some good authentic Mexican food and gave this place a try as this food truck was highly rated. It's tucked off in the parking lot of a rolled ice cream parking lot so parking is very minimal. Tried the Birria ramen and was taken back that all the birrja was fatty and noodles were just seemingly tossed in there to boil with the sauce. Tacos were not the greatest either. Rice and beans come in a very small styrofoam container. Rice was okay but beans and birria ramen were very salty. I would recommend the birria tacos but that's about it.

Klaus P.

Yelp
Great taco's and very fresh. Really enjoyed them, I'll be back! I came here after riding my bike downtown with my son and he wanted to try birra tacos. They did not disappoint.

Bella E.

Yelp
We were craving birria tacos and WOW WOW WOW they did not disappoint!! It was so good! The service was great and quick, and it's exactly what you want from a taco truck!!

Daysi L.

Yelp
It was a whatever spot, but they did give out consomé with each order which was cool. The parking lot that it's in is for an ice cream place which is probably inconvenient during lunch hours. The torta was okay but the bread was not toasted and it was more of a dense bread than the usual airy bread. the tacos looked bland, but i didn't get to try them. The torta was good but not great.

Braden J.

Yelp
I've never heard or had birria style tacos with consome until I saw a random post for Pepe's Tacos and decided to give it a go, plus it was perfect since it was taco Tuesday. Essentially the style calls for you to dip the tacos into the consome, which is a soup like dip. All these combined just makes masterpiece in savory arts. Atmosphere: Homely food truck style, so you'll get that feel of Austin unique food. Food: Just writing this makes me wish it was closer to my location, but the birria style tacos with consome is certainly something to try for any taco/food lover. The tacos in it of themselves are already savory given the style of meat used along with the mozzarella cheese and corn chip. Possibly not the most authentic with mozzarella but I believe not everything has to be fully authentic to be delicious and worth an experience. The consome is the cream of the crop, a tasty soup like dip that when added on with the tacos just makes it all that much more better. I was so interested with the idea that I actually bought both the taco combo and the quesadilla, similar in styles but so worth it to try it all again. Service: I made a to-go order via their website online, prompt and to the point. I arrived exactly at the time they designated and got my food perfectly on time. Overall: Again for any taco/food lover, I'd highly recommend trying this place. I myself am even considering just looking at other things on their menu to try to see what other combinations work nicely with this style. It also makes me wish Tuesdays would come sooner.

Alexandria C.

Yelp
Stopped by pepe's during a visit to Austin and I must say, they did not disappoint. Their Birria tacos were delicious! Doesn't look like much on the outside but those are usually the best spots.

Jackie X.

Yelp
Came here on a chilly Monday night in January with a friend. I'd heard good things about this place and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed! My friend and I each got the Taco combo, which comes with 3 birria tacos and a side of consome. We kept the cheese, onions, and cilantro on the tacos. The whole combo was just $9.50! The person working brought us the food to the car as they told us to "keep warm" which I thought was very thoughtful. We decided to eat at the picnic tables right beside the station in the parking lot because we didn't want to eat in the car. We squeezed the limes into the consome and proceeded to dip and devour each taco. We also drank every last drop of the consome. For the price and explosive flavor, this was such an excellent deal! So much so, that we ended up buying another combo each! So so so delicious. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for cheap and flavorful tacos! Maybe you'll even see me in person there because I plan to come back as often as possible

Kelsea K.

Yelp
I won't claim to have tried all the birria spots in the city, because I found one I love that's close to me on my 1st try... but these guys will send birria deliciousness to your house via Uber Eats, and yesterday, that's exactly what I needed. The dinner discussion quickly came to a halt when we saw this as an option! So, price-wise it was about what I expected. Taste-wise, I'd give it an 8/10. Not quite as flavorful as my top favorite, but definitely less greasy! I was pretty concerned when I didn't see comsome offered on the ubereats menu, though it was pictured a few times... but concerns were laid to bed upon delivery, when we got a cup for each of the 3 boxes of food we ordered! ...comsome was meatless (but free, so no complaints there), and again, less greasy (and only a bit less flavorful) than what I'd come to expect elsewhere. I actually enjoyed the torta more (only half was pictured because the rest was devoured too fast to be pictured)-- pro tip: soak the top half of the torta in some consome and then dip each bite as you go!!! (Also, although it's hard to tell in the photo, that bed of birria is resting on a significant cheese-mattress underneath). All in all, I'd order again for delivery birria that hits the spot! And ubereats indicates these are beef tacos, for those wondering & aware that traditional birria is usually goat!

Tara S.

Yelp
best birria of all time! !!! i need to add more characters i guess so here's so more words

Anthony M.

Yelp
Birria Tacos are the trend these days and I'm all about it. I recently visited Pepe's Tacos where that's all they do. What even is birria? Good birria is a stew made up as a mixture of savory, sweet, earthy, smoky and spicy seasonings which gives the meat a lot of flavor. I started off with their Taco Combo which comes with 3 Quesabirrias which are a hybrid between a taco and quesadilla where the tortillas are dipped in the birria to give it that color and flavor. It comes with a side of consome (beef broth) to dip. I enjoyed these, however I felt there could have been a bit more flavor in the meat itself in these, but that was easily fixed when I dipped it in the consome. ($10.50) Next, I got their Torta and same concept as above but they dip the bread in the birria. Y'all, this one I enjoyed much more and was my favorite. The bread had this smokey, spicy flavor to it that really complimented it. Amazing! ($10) Last, but not least: had to get the Birria Quesadilla. By default I like these more than the tacos as well because of the use of the flour tortilla and portion of the cheese. ($10) All in all, the food came out swiftly, the prices are great, and there's some free parking available. This is a great spot to visit, so I give them a 4/5!

Janetta P.

Yelp
Just average Birria tacos. Also not worth the wait. It's more of a place you go to after going out.

Natalie H.

Yelp
Birria tacos with cheese and consume for dipping. Best taco truck in Austin without a doubt. We took ours to the Zilker Metropolitan Park and had a picnic. The green salsa was perfect. Not spicy, just flavor. Accompanied best by a jarrito de piña or pineapple soda.

Shaan D.

Yelp
My friend and I wanted tacos and always passed by Pepe's and heard good things, so we finally stopped by. The menu is very simple which I appreciate as an indecisive person. I was pretty hungry so I got the taco combo: 3 birria tacos with no cheese and consomé. I wish I had gotten cheese because my friend said it was good. Will try that next time. But we both agreed the meat could have used a little more salt/seasoning. Otherwise I thought the tortillas were the right consistency and it was a good deal. The consomé and salsa were pretty good. There isn't a lot of seating or parking so plan accordingly.

Tommy N.

Yelp
Best birria tacos I've had here in Austin! Crispy, flavorful, and pairs well with consume broth provided!

Emily B.

Yelp
y'all. This place is so disrespectfully delicious... I can not. It's not only good enough to slap yo mama, but any of your relatives that have a face. I've gone here many times. Today, however, I ordered the birria quesadilla.... dear god. *squirt that lime ALL OVER* *dip* *bite* *slurp some extra consome* Dude... even talking about it after eating... I'm hungry for more. I even ordered it from doordash and that liquid was STILL PIPING HOT ... mmm go get some why are you even looking at any more of the reviews?!? GO!!! NOW!!!

Courtney B.

Yelp
First time trying this place today, I've been craving birria tacos for awhile and this place kept coming up in the recommendations. It was well worth the 30 min drive into downtown. I love food that fills your soul up and doesn't leave you feeling heavy or lacking. These were the perfect size and the quantity and quality of the meat was outstanding. I can't wait to come back and try other menu items. Oh and also shoutout to the friendly staff, it's the day after Christmas and I appreciate a friendly attitude and great service.

Tandis H.

Yelp
This was our first time trying Birria Tacos. The truck is a bit out of view from the road, but it is in the parking lot of a rolled ice cream shop. The lot was difficult to turn into, so we parked at Bandit - the matcha place - and walked over to pick up our online order. We ordered online for pickup, and the minimum pickup time was 30 minutes after checkout. So we planned to arrive on time/a few minutes early. It was a Saturday so we thought the place might be busy, but I always like to pick up food before the expected time because we all know food that sits out after being prepared compromises its texture. Unfortunately they texted that the food was ready after only 10 minutes, when we hadn't even left the house, so the food was already sitting for 20 minutes by the time we picked it up :( I've never had birria tacos before, but I assumed that since they are fried before serving, they'd have a light crisp to them. But since they were prepared 20 minutes sooner than we were told to expect, they were soggy. They also didn't give us the roja and spicy mango salsa we requested in the order. I like that you can order ahead with text notifications but I wish they had a more accurate timing so you can plan on getting it fresh.

Jenny L.

Yelp
Oh my god. They came to our work and I had the tacos and the quesadilla when I saw our director eating them I'm like what is that ... went ordered... BEST TACOS IVE EVER HAD. So yummy will seek them out again ASAP
