"If you read On The Origin of Species: Pizza Edition, deep-dish might seem like a horrible evolutionary mistake that would make Darwin roll in his grave. It’s polarizing - people either love it or hate it, and it’s frequently hated by people who’ve never even eaten it. So when we’re asked (which is often) to make a deep-dish recommendation, Pequod’s in Lincoln Park is always the first place we suggest. Their pan-style pizza is so delicious that it’ll make a deep dish truther out of anyone. You probably already know why Pequod’s is f*cking special. But for visitors or any Chicagoans who are (rightfully) too ashamed to admit they’ve never tried it, we’ll tell you - it’s the caramelized edge. That delicious ring of burnt cheese surrounding the pie, combined with the thick airy crust and perfectly spicy tomato sauce, is what makes Pequod’s something you need to eat before you die. We mean this: it’s Make-A-Wish pizza. photo credit: Kim Kovacik So why isn’t Pequods a 10.0? Here’s the thing - in order to get the full benefit of the delicious caramelization, you need to eat it directly out of a pan that looks like it was forged in the Great Chicago Fire. This means going to the loud, crowded sports bar in Lincoln Park that doesn’t take reservations and often has multi-hour waits. And if you have it delivered, or get it to-go, it won’t be the same. The cheesy crust gets soft, and the bottom of the pie can get soggy. Sorry, we don’t make the rules. There’s also the original location in Morton Grove (the smaller Pequod’s that crawled out of the primordial ooze), but it’s even busier. And as far as the rest of the menu? Ignore it. You’re here for one thing: the deep dish. Don’t waste your time on the unmemorable pastas, forgettable salads, or boring sandwiches. And please just disregard the thin-crust pizzas - it’s an unfortunate mutation you need to ignore. That aberration aside, this city’s pizza landscape continues to evolve in exciting ways. In fact, the Chicago Department of Pizza Style and Regulation recently approved Pilsen-style. Obviously we’re not afraid of change, and why should we be? We created Pequod’s. Food Rundown photo credit: Kim Kovacik Pepperoni Pizza The perfect Pequod’s pizza: a sea of slightly charred pepperoni up against the caramelized crust. There is nothing better than a hot slice of this straight from the pan. photo credit: Kim Kovacik Sausage, Pepper And Onion Pizza This is a close second. Always get pepperoni, but if you’re in the market for a change (or want some variety), this is your order. Personal Pan Pizza If you come here by yourself, sitting alone with a whole pan pizza might be a commitment you’re not ready to make. Don’t worry - for $4.95 you can get a seven-inch pie that’s baked in its very own little pan. And kind of like how the Reese’s Easter Egg-shaped cups have the ideal chocolate-to-peanut butter ratio, the miniature pies have a fantastic amount of caramelized crust. It’s an adaptation Darwin would be proud of. Everything Else Besides Deep Dish We warned you, don’t bother. Make room for more pizza." - Adrian Kane

"Katz was also behind another iconic deep-dish pizzeria. He opened Pequod’s in 1970, also in suburban Morton Grove (Pequod’s wouldn’t open its Lincoln Park location in Chicago until 1992). Katz sold his stake in Pequod’s and opened Burt’s Place in 1989." - Ashok Selvam

I stopped by the Morton Grove location of Pequod’s Pizza and had an awesome experience. I ordered the sausage and pepperoni deep dish, and it was seriously one of the best pizzas I’ve had—super flavorful with that crispy caramelized crust they’re known for. The sausage was well-seasoned, the pepperoni had a nice kick, and everything just came together perfectly. I also had a Blue Moon beer with it, which hit the spot. The place had a chill vibe, the service was solid, and overall it was a great time. Definitely coming back.

Ordered the deep dish with with four veg toppings. The pizza was a little dry with not quite enough sauce, but it was still good. I wouldn't call it the Best Pizza In The Universe. I like the authentic old style look that has been preserved at this Morton Grove location.

Google
So far this is the best deep dish pizza I have ever had, in from out of town and had to try this place, a friend and I stopped in and ordered both a deep dish and thin crust pizza with pepperoni and fresh garlic. Both pizzas smacked!! Could not finish and took the leftover pizza to go, and it was even better hours later. The atmosphere at this place is pretty cool as well, situated in a neat little neighborhood it feels like a little local bar with killer food, go here. Service was good as well.

Google
You are stepping into a time capsule at this location. The decor immediately brings me back to the 80's with the plastic cups and vinyl table cloth, wood paneling, and sport/beer memorabilia. We ordered 4 different types of pizza in a large group, but the highlight for me was a pepperoni, garlic, spinach, onion, and tomato. It was fantastic, but with the sauce it becomes pretty acidic, so be prepared if you're sensitive. Go with a group and enjoy watching everyone not eat the burnt caramelized edge. It's a classic.

Was looking forward to trying this pizza when planning my trip to Chicago. Was not disappointed, the pizza was amazing. We got Italian sausage and pepperoni and there was plenty on there. A medium was more than enough for us both, they do not slack on toppings. The caramelised crust went beyond expectations, absolutely loved it.

Google
Place was utterly packed. We managed to get a seat at the bar. Took 15 mins for anyone to even acknowledge us. Asked for a beer, got it with a glass that had dried food on it. Ordered a deep dish with meatballs. Took FOREVER to come out and when it finally did come it wasn't even hot. Meanwhile a couple who sat across from us got it super fast. My knife also has a huge dent with rust in it. Was told by several people to come here while in Chicago and it was NOT worth it. Take your hard earned money elsewhere. Also almost no AC, kept having hot flashes and had to step outside to cool off.

Google
Amazing Pizza! I can see why they got such high praise nationally. This pizza was perfect. Crispy crust, deliciously seasoned, and perfect cheese. I kept it simple with the medium sausage and pepperoni pan pizza. I would highly recommend it. Glad I ordered enough to have leftovers.

I’ve been to Pequod’s a few times, and the main reason I didn’t love it before was their “caramelized crust”—it always tasted a little too burnt for me. But this last visit, I asked for it to be less caramelized, and wow, it made such a difference! We got a couple of deep-dish pizzas, and they were really good. The pizza is saucy but flavorful, and if you don’t like a super burnt crust, definitely ask for it less caramelized. We also tried the zucchini fritters, and they were amazing—highly recommend! The place is small and gets packed, so reservations are a must. They have a great lunch special too—$7.95 for a personal deep dish (plus extra for toppings). Service has always been great, even when it’s busy. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
1st time and I see why it's #1 Chicago pizza for my buddy and many others! Sylvia was extremely attentive and we always had what we needed. It's a quaint and provides the original hole in the wall feel. Food: 5 Service: 4.5 Comfort and feel: 3 - chairs are uncomfortable but made so to get you out for others to have sooner Recommend ordering to go as the pizza is super tasty!

Yelp
After I had Pequod's Pizza at the Clybourn location last year, I rounded up two of my buds for an excursion to Pequod's in Morton Grove. It's in the middle of nowhere in suburban Morton Grove, so it is easy to miss. I made an online reservation for three for our weekday lunch, and the place was literally full when we got there so yay for our reservation. The interior is about the size of someone's house, so it's not as large as the Clybourn location. The men's room is about the size of an airplane lavatory, so yes it's got only one stall. We ordered a large pan pizza with sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms, along with soft drinks and cups of ice water. The pizza was cut into 8 slices, and oh was it delicious. The pizza is saucy and loaded with toppings, and the crust edges were fabulously crunchy. I also got to take home two of the slices for leftovers. If you like a thick pizza, Pequod's is a must-try.

Yelp
We came to Pequod's to celebrate a birthday in the family and this was my first time. Tip 1: We made a reservation on their website which was a good idea as we walked in and got seated. Tip 2: We preordered our pizzas by calling our preorder in. When we sat down ... we ordered our drinks and pizza was out with in 5 minutes of getting our drinks. We ordered 2 deep dish pizzas; one cheese and one with onion. green pepper and olive pizza. Then also ordered a thin crust cheese. We also went for some jalapeño poppers and garlic cheese bread. I started with veggie deep dish. It was absolutely fantastic. The zesty sauce, fluffy crusty yet crisp crust, just the right amount of cheese, and perfectly cooked veggies which didn't make the pizza go to a wet pie mode ... absolutely perfect. I was surprised this was not as heavy as some of the other classic well known deep dish pizza joints in Chicago. The topper was their famous caramelized crusty which sealed the deal on a pizza that did surpass my expectations. I actually did prefer the veggie pizza with with the toppings to round out the pizza. The cheese pizza was good but the extra toppings made it for me. We also got a thin crust cheese pizza. It was just okay to me. A bit too salty for me and just not setting off the tasty vibes as did the deep dishes. The garlic bread and jalapeño poppers were okay. But again didn't do much for me. As for the restaurant itself it's cozy but loud and dark in the front dinning areas. The tables seemed dirty and bathrooms not pleasant. I know we didn't come for that but it could use some maintenance as it seemed a bit run down. It adds to the vibe I guess? The staff was okay ... servers seemed over busy and slow to stay on top of serving us. Over all we enjoyed the food and would recommend checking Pequods out. Just not sure it's the top pizza in chicago.

Yelp
Pequods is well known for their pan pizza with the caramelized crust. I've dined in and also ordered pizza to go, it's well worth it to dine in and get eat the pizza when it's hot and crispy out of the pan. Personally the caramelized crust is not my favorite but I can understand how so many people love it. They did have the perfect ratio of crust, sauce, and toppings which is sometimes hard to find with pan pizzas. The appetizer place was also decent sized and had a good variety of fried goodness. The place itself is tiny, and the decor is of a divey pizza place. It's not handicap accessible so just be aware there are steps and a narrow hall to get into the restaurant and it's also a tight squeeze between tables. There is limited street parking. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time, especially if you're planning on going anytime near peak hours (and even later). I've come around 8pm on a Saturday and there was still a 2 hour wait. There's a good amount of street parking but it can get busy and difficult to find.

Yelp
I don't know where to start...maybe all the hype is for tourists? Maybe Chicago location better? Maybe off night? My husband & I are pizza people & raising our kids to be. We love it all...tavern, thin, deep, pan, calzone, all of it! So Pequod's has been on the list for years. To say the end product was underwhelming is overstatement. My pictures show our leftovers...it's like pizza bread except the bread has no flavor. No butter, no garlic, nothing. Plus toppings were skimpy. I thought the caramelized cheese would be the savior, but no. The cheese went around just at the rim (I assumed it went down further). We had both plain cheese pizza as well as pizza with meat & veggies...meh. Meh!! Place is total dive, service was fine, get reservations, garlic cheese bread tasted great.

Dina E.

Yelp
Pequod's is definitely worth all the hype, it's even better than I remember! Make a reservation or you 'll find yourself taking a pie to go, that's how popular this place is now that it's been named best pizza in the U.S.! Our half veggie/half meat pie was served hot and fresh, we arrived early for our reservation and they were happy to seat us. Their tomato sauce is some of the best I've ever tasted and is rich and full of flavor. The pizza had just the right amount of toppings and the burnt cheesy crust was chewy and delicious. They have a few house wines and a decent beer selection, even offering a few hard ciders. They offer an in-house beer, but we didn't try it this time. Plenty of street parking if you arrive by 6:30, otherwise you'll have to make a few trips around the block, but it's well worth it!

Dave C.

Yelp
Their deep dish reminds me of Rocky Rococo's . I placed an order to go then along the road trip for 4 hours - wasn't pleased with it but maybe better once sitting down and munch on it?! Enjoy it and try convince me to come back- oh. Nice to pick up along the alley way!

Xander S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We ordered a half sausage, half pepperoni deep dish pizza, and garlic cheesy bread at Pequod's Pizza, and every bite was amazing. The pizza was perfectly cooked with a crispy crust and generous toppings, while the garlic cheesy bread was a flavorful, gooey delight. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Chicago deep dish!

Yelp
This tiny pizzeria in a neighborhood in Morton Grove has the vibe of someone's '70s wood-paneled rec room and some whale-themed decor to go along with their mascot (Pequod is also the name of the ship in "Moby-Dick," if you're a literary nerd). We got the pan pizza, known for its caramelized crust; this sort of reminded me of Detroit style pizza but it's round rather than square. The pepperoni was plentiful but I'd say that the sauce to cheese ratio was a bit off: too much sauce, not enough cheese. And damn, watch the sauce! It's like molten lava. I burned my lip three times, and a drop fell on my boyfriend's forearm and actually left a burn there! The place is very small, so make sure to make a reservation (protip: make it for earlier than you think you'll be hungry, because it still took 45 minutes to get the pizza). Our waiter kept a good eye on us, checking about drink refills etc. Overall, good, but not my favorite pizza.

Nette B.

Yelp
Just checking if this will live to the hype and it did! The place is really small so reservation is a must. We did not do that but we were lucky there is available table for 2. We ordered the sampler appetizers which has the mushroom, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella so yummy! We only ordered the small pan pizza with spinach, sausage and pepperoni. You have to pay first the toppings though. I can say this is very delicious including the crust which is partly burned. I think that they are known for that because of the crust. The place is very busy but the servers are nice. We would surely be back.

Nerina B.

Yelp
We ordered from Pequods. We ordered the pan pizza well done, with xtra cheese, mushrooms, and sausage, bbq wings and fries. After eating , I said to myself, I don't understand the hype for this place. The pan pizza, the crust was soggy, the sauce on the pizza was good, the pizza did not seem to have extra cheese as I requested, as a matter of fact it hardly tasted like there was hardly no cheese, the sausage was good, and mushrooms were good, but I don't think there were enough mushrooms on the pizza, and I should not have to pay extra for a few more. The pizza crust was well done, but the burnt crust had a weird texture. The fries were soggy, and they tasted like the inside was not cooked all the way The bbq wings were dry Overall I did not enjoy my food. The food looked good but unfortunately the flavors were lacking.

Yelp
You declare your pizza faction early in life and rarely do you switch your affiliation. I had never tried the famous Pequods (of the carmelized cheese crust) as immortalized on several top lists and media outlets but I had an opportunity to finally try it one wintry afternoon. A work colleague scooped up our personal pizzas and zipped back to the office so I was able to sample the famed pizza, still hot, cheesy and with the blackened crust. Ok, fine, I liked it a lot. It just about lived up to the hype. I enjoyed the blackened cheese crust, the generous sweet tomato sauce, the gooey cheese, the large sausage nuggets. It was a blast to the senses -- sweet, salty, chewy, crispy, crunchy and spicy. If there were one thing short of perfection I would have to say it lies in the crust, which I found dry. Otherwise, a delightful introduction to the famous Pequod's Pizza.

Martin G.

Yelp
I've been a New Haven pizza (thin crust) guy all my life so when work took me to Chicago, I asked someone where to go. Let me say, I'm still a thin crust guy, but this was good. I didn't know it wasn't going to be sliced which made it awkward to eat at the hotel with no utensils, sadly. I also couldn't taste the basil and it really had burned into the topping. Definitely a fan of the crusted pepperoni. Glad to have tried deep dish, but still think I'm sticking to my New Haven style pizza.

Devang P.

Yelp
Pequod offers a unique dining experience with its small, dive bar-like setting. Despite the modest ambiance, the pizza here boasts a standout feature: its caramelized crust. While the wait for food may be a tad longer, it's a testament to their commitment to freshness. The crust is a real winner, boasting a perfect blend of crunch and chewiness. I opted for the Canadian bacon topping, and it complemented the flavors beautifully. The sauce had a decent flavor, and the overall combination was spot on. Though the flavor of the sauce wasn't bad, it also wasn't as flavorful as what I'm accustomed to. I went for the lunch special personal pan, and it was just the right size for one person. Despite the generous amount of dough and cheese, the pizza didn't feel overly heavy. It struck a perfect balance, leaving me satisfied but not stuffed. In summary, Pequod's might be small in size, but it delivers big on taste and atmosphere. If you're craving a delicious pizza experience in a cozy setting, this place won't disappoint.

Yelp
Pequod's is often touted as one of the best pizzas in the Chicagoland area. It is a very good pizza, but I have a very hard time calling it "the best". I have had their pizza 5 or 6 times. I have eaten in the restaurant twice. Here is my take. Food: Pequod's is known for their pan pizza with caramelized crust. This is done by adding extra cheese on the side of the pizza prior to baking in the pan. I have found this pizza to be a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it has a good amount of cheese and sauce, other times, it is mostly bread. I always order with extra sauce when I remember to do so, but lately, there hasn't been as much cheese and it seems more bread-heavy to me. The sauce flavor is a 10/10, the cheese flavor is 8/10. Overall, the pizza is a 7/10 as of late unless you add extra cheese and extra sauce to bring it back up to a 9/10. The restaurant itself is very eclectic, and very cramped. Expect to be less than arm's length from your neighbor. Bathrooms are not very clean, and right in the front dining room. Servers are overworked, and therefore service is a bit inconsistent. You need to make a reservation if you want to eat in, or prepare for a long wait, any day of the week. You can also order your pizza ahead of time for dine-in to save more time. I think they are able to get away with this due to how popular and in-demand they are. Pricing for pizza here is definitely on the high end, but once again, when you always have a line and do tons of business, why would you lower your price? Parking is a chore, but you can always park on the street. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit. Just make sure you make a reservation and order the pizza ahead of time. I can't imagine someone not liking the pizza, it is very good pizza, but I can imagine them not liking the other things I mentioned.

Yelp
LOVEEEEEE PEQUOD'S!!!! The fact that they gave personal pizzas it's even better!! We love the quality of the sauce and cheese and we also get our pizza through their drive thru which is the best part of their service honestly! We don't even have to get out of the car! We love this place!!!

Natalie K.

Yelp
I've only been to Pequod's once in my life back in 2015 at the Chicago location. I had been craving this pizza for years and finally got around to going again at the new location. It certainly did not disappoint. I was seated straight away and waited about 45 minutes for the pizza to come out which was perfectly fine as I was enjoying some good beer and company. The restaurant is a cute little tavern and the tables were all full! For reference, I went on a Tuesday evening. We wanted to try the thin crust pizza but honestly I am going to stick to the pan pizza. The pan pizza is delightful with its burnt and delectable crust. The thin pizza was good too but the real specialty here is the pan. The beers they have to offer are delicious and overall service was great. I will be coming back each time my cravings creep up.

Yelp
I tried to avoid posting a Yelp review by sending this to the email address listed on the website, but it was sent back to me. 3 stars because the food was good. My family I have been coming to Pequod's for many years (in fact, my wife and I came before we were a family). It is our go-to place for special occasions. In full disclosure we usually go to the Chicago location. A few weeks ago my son and I decided to try the Morton Grove location because we had moved out of the city. We came back again last night. I wanted to point out a few things. I want to be clear that it was not particularly busy at this time either. There were many open tables, unlike other times we have been to Pequods: The girl who welcomed us was friendly, otherwise the service was terrible. The staff act like they just don't care, and that they are being bothered if you ask any questions. We got out pizza before we got our appetizer (with no explanation). The pizzas were half gone by the time the wings showed up. The pizzas were just put on the table, like here you go, but they guy who bought the pizzas didn't even say that. He just put them on the table. I asked where our appetizers were and he didn't know. Also, this was not our server (the guy who took our order). We never saw the person who took our order again after we placed the order. In Chicago they often serve up the first piece...though it was more the unwelcoming attitude than the lack of extras frills of service that bothered me the most. There was absolutely no service provided beyond taking our order and delivering the food to the table (not refills on drinks, not check to see if we needed anything else, they didn't even bring the bill...we had to get it ourselves). When my wife went to pay, the only tip options were 18%, 20%, and 22% or something like that. We always tip well, but 18% was way more than what anyone last night deserved. We should have had the option to chose another amount, and the option should have been clearer if it exists. Finally, I am not sure if getting rid of the buttery braided crust on the thin pizza is a cost saving measure, but it is not a good idea. Your crust is what separates your pizza from others. Now that it is gone, it is just a regular pizza (though your pepperoni is amazing). I wish you would consider brining the braided crust back or offer it as an option to people who want it (last time we were there the server told us the reason you removed the crust was because no one ever eats the crust). We always ate the crust. Buttery and delicious. To summarize, we won't be coming back to the Morton Grove location, despite it being a little more convenient for us than the Chicago location. I am really hoping beyond hope that Chicago still has the crust. I think you may need to traiin your staff on customer service, as they don't seem to know anything about it. I worked in restaurants for many years, This wouldn't cut it anywhere I worked. I know you all have a thriving business that requires reservations and possibly don't even care what one customer thinks, but it may not stay that way if this is your new standard.

Diondra B.

Yelp
Came here with coworkers for lunch. Service was friendly. Ambiance is very old looks like the original design from when it was first built which adds character if you like. Be aware the pizza takes along time. We ordered a personal pan cheese and mushroom and a medium with sausage and garlic. We waited about 45 mins for our food. Overall it was just ok. Was rather bland and lacked flavor to me and one other coworker. My other 2 coworkers enjoyed their slice.

Alex A.

Yelp
Pequod's Pizza in Morton Grove presents a parking challenge where you'll need to find street parking. The restaurant interior may resemble a dive, but the culinary experience within is worth it. Opting for a small pan pizza with sausage and pepperoni, I found the saucy delight and the caramelized cheese crust to be standout features. Despite the unassuming ambiance, Pequod's delivers on a great pizza experience. The addition of a craft beer from Sketchbook Brewing complemented the meal nicely.

David R.

Yelp
We went about 3pm nobody in the place the server took great care of us we had salad, pasta and of course the pizza we all enjoyed it and the beer was cold too

William M.

Yelp
Notice how all the "bad" reviews of Pequod's come from reviewers with hardly any reviews and are often littered with profanity and personal attacks. My experience here was great. This isn't Burger King. Getting legendary pizza from a small and but very popular place requires patience and understanding this isn't "fast food." While I don't honestly care to actually eat the burnt edges of the crust, the overall pizza with the crust, cheese, sauce (and in this case, sausage) all works together perfectly. Service was fine, considering so many people are out of the job market...please respect those who showed up.

Pooja V.

Yelp
I'm not the biggest fan of deep dish pizza. However, this pizza plus was absolutely delicious. Very different and very unique. They have great flavors and the sauce is amazing. Definitely worth trying. I'm sure if you are somebody that the fan of deep dish pizza that is Multiple type of place for you. I definitely will be coming back for the crust.

Yining D.

Yelp
The service is slow here, but the food is worth it. I would recommend making a reservation for your party, and the day of your reservation call in and order your pizza ahead. Pequod's is my favorite Chicago deep dish restaurant. Their pizza is saucy and the sausage is super flavorful. The chicken wings are also a great appetizer. The inside the restaurant looks like a typical sports bar with wooden walls and neon signs. For parking, you can park around the neighborhood area for free.

Andy R.

Yelp
Small spot, packed but got seated relatively quick. Food took a while, but like I said the place was packed. Wait was worth it though for the deep dish caramelized crust awesomeness. Sausage as big as meatballs, a large fed four comfortably. Definitely worth the hype and highly recommended when in the Chicagoland area.

Katie F.

Yelp
This is some delicious pizza. What else can I say that hasn't already been said? Make a reservation. Get there a few minutes early and go ahead and place that pan pizza order if they aren't quite ready to seat you, so you don't get too hangry! The staff was great!

Yelp
For Father's Day we did a pizza taste challenge Pequod's pan vs Malnati's butter crust. This review is about the Pequod Morton Grove experience. First a quick bite about the Pizza. Ordered large pan spinach and sausage. The famous caramelized crust added a nice touch, sausage flavorful and spinach fresh. Now the criticism: biggest problem was the inconsistent thickness of the crust. In spots almost an inch thick. I think it was meant to be about 1/2 thick. Even at 1/2 thick it was too bread like. The sausage while tasting good was in big chunks (good) but too sparse. You could get a quarter slice with no sausage. I give the pizza only a 3 for this order. Maybe thin crust would be better. Now the experience/ ordered online for pickup. Online ordering was a little clunky on my phone. At first I was browsing for the Pizza going past appetizers, pasta, etc. later I found that there is a shortcut to pizza. The pizza order itself was straight forward. Pick type, size and then the toppings. Pricing was clear and option costs displayed. Ordered sausage and spinach large pan. Total cost around $40 (2023 cost). Sausage was about $5 and spinach $4. Price totaled correctly and after a checkout failure (bad connection) the second try was successful. Description of the pickup process was on the web page and clear - drive up to the alley pickup and give them the order number. Worked well although I went to the kitchen door that was open first. Pizza was ready in 90 mins from order time. One thing I didn't like was the foil placed on top of the pizza. It stuck to the pizza and pulled at it when removing. To summarize- The caramelized crust was great but the variably thick bready crust detracted from the pizza. Maybe thin crust on next order. Sausage was spread too thin. Spinach fresh. Pizza I give three stars but process for pickup and ordering raises the rating to 4. Search for my Lou Malnati's review for their Better Butter crust.

Yelp
I listened to my cabbie's advice and tried Pequod's Pizza in Chicago, hailed as the city's finest. The place is small, but it worked well for me and my friend. My only mistake was overindulging in mozzarella sticks and salad, leaving me too full to finish even one slice of the fantastic sausage, mushroom, olive, and pepper pizza. It was packed, and the servers, while busy, were attentive. Be prepared to wait around 45 minutes for the pizza, but it's worth it!

Yelp
This neighborhood pizza place is the best in Chicago hands down for deep dish pizza. The charred crust are a fulfillment of dreams and keep me coming back. This location is small but stays busy and the pizza always comes out hot and fresh. That nice cheese pull with the first slice and everyone thereafter is delectable. Service is good and can be a little harder when busy but we still always got our food hot and drinks refilled. Ambiance is warm and casual and they have a nice outdoor seating area. Tips to make your visit a success: 1) Make the reservation and order ahead of time. On a busy night the wait can be an hour or more for seating. And food can take another hour or so. But it is worth the wait so prepare beforehand by making a reservation and even calling in you pizza order. Beware that on busy nights you may have to call several times or wait on hold. 2) Not just pizza. While their pizza is amazing the serve other bites too. Appetizers, sandwiches and pasta all go good with a nice deep dish pizza. And don't forget to save room for desserts. Go to one of the Pequod's locations and enjoy lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Pequods is the best deep dish in Chicago and Chicagoland. Point. blank. Period. Get a reservation, have a beer, have patience because it takes 45 minutes and enjoy.

Yelp
We had the poppers and wings for appetizers both were good nothing special. However the deep dish pizza was outstanding. We did half veggie with anchovies and the other half Italian beef with some hot peppers. I have to say that the pizza is the best. Server was good. Ambience is pub style and I would recommend a reservation As it can get crowded

Yelp
Stopped in here as promised after trying the one on Clyburn...wanted to try Burts around the corner but rolled in from Indy and they didn't open till 4pm bummer...anyhow...ready for great poe here at the original on Morton Grove Atmosphere is pub style and classic w tight tables. Service was great by our server. Attentive and kind..was not busy for a Thursday lunch! Pizza was on point as one of the best I've had for deep dish pizza! Does not disappoint!

Yelp
Where Detroit pizza meets Chicago. Sauce on top, cheese to the edge. Believe the hype! Make a reservation and prepare for the best pizza in Chicago, maybe the country, perhaps the Universe if you believe the menu. Don't get fancy. A couple toppings go a long way. Don't miss the sausage. Downtown location is just as awesome!!

Yelp
The pizza, as usual, was superb. Pequod's never disappoints! The ambience is dive-jointy! And the food is incredible! The service was also great! And we brought an out-of-towner with us!

Yelp
Pizza was amazing! Make sure you make a reservation because you cannot just walk in. Places small but it gives a very good neighborhood vibe. Be sure you bring a friend that you like talking to because you will be waiting 45 minutes to get your pizza. But once you get it all the negative goes away. Great pizza. Service could have been slightly better. Not much contact while waiting and no contact after getting the pizza. But that's ok. Close to the very best I've ever had! Worth the trip.

Yelp
I saw Pequod's on a Chicago TV show a couple years ago. Have wanted to try it since then. Haven't had it til today, when I brought an out of town relative. I've looked forward to it all week. So disappointed. The crust is terrible, the tomato sauce on top flavorless. I don't know what the hype is all about.

Yelp
Delicious food you do you need a reservation seats about 45 people in a little place it's a good time. It's a fantastic meal.

Yelp
I saw Pequod's on the Food Network, and it sounded really good. So I ordered some of their deep dish pan pizzas online via Goldbelly, since I don't live in Chicago. I was not impressed. Years ago as a traveling salesman, I experienced what I consider was "true" Chicago deep dish pizza. But the Pequod's pizzas I received (which were fresh; Goldbelly did an excellent job) were: - not very deep with sauce, pizza fillings or cheese. - had a spongy bottom crust, which was thicker than the interior sauce, fillings and cheese combined. - did have the caramelized outer crust as advertised, which was good, but which did not make up for the first two lackluster points noted. - what sauce there was, was tasty, and the pepperoni was good. I had hopes that by ordering deep dish pizza from a deep dish restaurant in Chicago (a city noted for their deep dish pizzas), I would experience pizza better than I can get in my town a state and a half away. Not the case with Pequod's Pizza. I give them an "OK" rating of 3 at best.

Yelp
Awesome as always !!!!! Brought friends in from wisconsin and they really enjoyed. They loved the pizza and the ambience along with of course the beer selections

Yelp
While there's a long standing debate whether this is considered deep dish or not- for me this is the BEST deep dish. I normally am not a huge fan of the massive crust/stuffing but this was the perfect base to toppings ratio. If you love crunchy/slightly burnt food this is the post and definitely be prepared to wait atleast 45 mins for the pizza to be made!!

Yelp
I have been going to this location since the 1970's and the pizza has always been great. The sausage was even more exceptional. Had a medium thick crust for 3 people and ended up taking half home. Very filling. The service is fine and the atmosphere is 1970 with flat screen tvs.

Yelp
Best deep dish pizza in Chicago. Been here so many times and pizza is always up to mark. Giving 4 stars due to their service.

Yelp
Best pizza in Chicago and Chicagoland. That caramelized crust (and the sauce!) is the bomb. Also their thin crust is mighty good and so is their salad--it's not a lame iceberg afterthought, it's crispy romaine and fresh stuff.

Yelp
I had heard of Pequod's Pizza in many video reviews and decided to order their lunch special. I love pizza and wanted to have a seamless experience, however experienced several issues. Not able to order online, I ordered the lunch special over the phone, did not receive a credit as indicated during the phone call and when I went to Morton Grove location to check out lunch pickup was slow. The payment device was not working. Morton Grove parking is okay. The caramelized crust is very good. I would give more stars however the customer service needs improvement.

Yelp
I'm a huge pizza lover. Saw nothing special about the food. Great service though. Cozy place. Throwback.

Yelp
Made a last minute early reservation on Mother's Day. Being I'm in a wheelchair I have to come in thru the back door. The seating was in the main dining area so my SO had to wheel me up a pretty steep incline (not sure I could manage on my own). Once in the dining area we sat and it filled up quickly. We started with salads which were quite yummy and fresh. Ordered a veggie deep dish and it was so good! Veggies were plentiful and the cheese was *chefs kiss.

Yelp
Tried this for the first time as a close friend has considered Pequod's her favorite for years. TBH my favorite deep dish Chicago style is Lou's but wanted to try it. Ordered the Chicago deep dish pepperoni. Love the carmalized crust but for me the crust is too thick and bread like. Service was good even though they were slammed due to the recent ranking from Yelp reviewers. Small dining room but loved the family atmosphere. Next time will try the thin crust to see if that is a better choice for me, but will still choose Lou's first.

Yelp
I wouldn't even dignify calling what they serve as pizza. Worst pizza ever, it's a piece of bread, sauce & very little cheese & meat. Just awful

Yelp
Refused service @ 8:40pm on a Thursday more than 45 minutes before closing, not the first time either!! Been going here for 35 years, not worth it anymore...If the employees don't want to work, then quit! Never Again!

Yelp
10 years since my last review for this heavenly char crusted pan pizza joint in a neighborhood buried in Morton Grove. I've been a customer here for over forty years! As good today, as it was way back then. The lunch deal here is a super deal at around eight bucks you get a fresh baked seven inch cheese pizza, or you can order whatever you want on it for an extra charge. It's just sooo dam good!
