The Best Restaurants in Jersey City | Eater NY

"This Latin-leaning menu offers humble fare done well from Bryan Girón, who has cut his teeth at places like Barbuto, Bread and Salt, Eataly, and Shukette. Order from the chalkboard menu something like a pork and lentil stew, dolled up fries in the form of salchipapas, and an order like pollo chuco, fried chicken atop fried green bananas layered with handfuls of vegetables like red cabbage and herbs. The bar scene is lively on weekends as is the Wednesday night wine night. — MM" - Melissa McCart

Tanoreen, an Essential Palestinian Restaurant, Is Expanding - Eater NY

"The Paulus Hook neighborhood in Jersey City has a new Latin American restaurant and bar with Honduran roots. Perquin (85 Morris Street, at Washington Street) opened last week from Bryan Girón (who cooked at Barbuto, Shukette) and Christopher Jones (Eataly, Barbuto, Carbone, Shukette). The walk-in-only restaurant serves dishes like potage de chicharron (split pea soup) with pork ragu and baleadas (a variation on pupusas)—what they’re calling their “Honduran street food.”" - Emma Orlow

I've been to Perquín multiple times now so I'm sharing a few photos from various experiences. The atmosphere is always great and the staff makes it a wonderful experience every time. The food is always AMAZING and the food and cocktail specials change so there's always something new to try. I'm a cocktail snob and their bartender, JP, Makes the absolute best cocktails and is very consistent! Definitely one of my go-to restaurants. A must try for sure.

We are so mad that we haven’t tried this restaurant earlier!! The menu is inspired daily by fresh ingredients and you can 100% tell. I feel like it’s rare to come upon a restaurant that values genuine creativity and quality, this Perquin does it. I can feel the love and fun in this food in every bite, and the quality of ingredients are justified in every bite. We will be coming back for the happy hours they host during the week and look forward to enjoying more creative, fresh, and fun dishes.

Google
I went here with a friend and we sat at the bar. The vibe is great and love the staff. Cocktails are delicious. We got the Avocado martini, a margarita and an espresso martini. I would describe the food as Spanish street food with a twist. We got the ceviche, Honduran street food with steak and the banana fritters. Everything was delicious. I will be back!

Incredible dining experience all-around! Perquin is a gem - they present complex, unique, and well married flavor profiles within a comfortable atmosphere. Service was impeccable! Overall 10/10 experience and would highly recommend checking out this amazing new spot!

If you’re looking for an incredible dining experience, Perquin is an absolute gem of a Peruvian restaurant! From the moment we stepped in, the two owners made us feel so welcome—they’re absolutely lovely and clearly passionate about what they do. The atmosphere is vibrant yet cozy, with great music that perfectly complements the lively, yet intimate vibe. We went as a group and opted for the prix fixe menu, which was an excellent decision. This allowed us to sample almost everything on the menu, and let me tell you, the flavors were out of this world! Each dish was bursting with unique, jampacked flavors that showcased the best of Peruvian cuisine. The cocktails were another highlight—creative, refreshing, and perfectly crafted. The service was just as incredible as the food, with the staff being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the dishes. As for the food itself, I had so many favorites that it’s hard to choose! The ceviche was fresh and vibrant, the mussels were rich and flavorful, and the tortillas and quesadillas were absolutely divine. Even the french fries were next-level! The salad was also a standout—simple but packed with flavor. If you’re looking for a spot with amazing food, top-tier service, and a fantastic atmosphere, Perquin is a must-visit. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
Perquin has been one of my favorite restaraunt experiences in years. Hands down the best chicken entree I've had in my life. The staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful. They talked us through unfamiliar dishes with expertise. The restaraunt itself is a great small spot with a large bar. Noise was reasonable despite its size, and everything was clean and welcoming. Every dish we had was better than the last and resulted in us ordering almost the entire menu and everything was worth it. The drinks were inventive and delicious. Recommend the pisco sour, but I enjoyed the raspberry daiquiri the most. This was one of my first experiences with Honduran / Ecuadorian food and it will not be my last. My only hope is that other similar restaraunts we'll be trying can keep up!

Google
We've had a couple of excellent meals at Perquin and love everything about it! The food is so flavorful and delicious, I can't wait to try everything on the menu. The bartenders are very kind and make excellent drinks! All around, the food and hospitality will keep us coming back again and again.

Yelp
Amazing food. Cannot praise this enough. Salchipapa is to die for and I would've licked the basket clean if that was socially acceptable Service is phenomenal, owner is super nice Ambiance is great, decor is beautiful All around 10/10

Yelp
I have been following Perquin since it opened and was excited to try it when I found myself in the area the other day. This was my first time trying Honduran food, and I have since discovered there are several well-rated Honduran restaurants in my area, so I have some new places to try! Our waiter was super knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly; I discovered they can modify a few of the dishes to suit vegetarians. I mentioned I needed to order fries to share with my dog, and our waiter recommended ordering unseasoned fries since I was going to give a few to the dog, which was so thoughtful! I had the sopa to start which was a bean soup with cilantro and spiced tortilla strips. It can be hard to find a vegetarian soup, so of course I had to order this! The soup was hearty and delicious, the spicy tortilla strips were a nice touch. For my main I had shrimp chucos, which has fried green banana chips, pickled red cabbage, and shrimp that are marinated in acid. This method of "cooking" shrimp is so delicious and keeps the shrimp really moist and flavorful. For drinks we had the porn star martini, which I found the juice in it to be a little too much by the end of the drink. We ate in the patio section with our dog and were really comfortable; the tables are new, and there are nice umbrellas at each table. Inside was more of a vibe, but the music was a bit loud for my taste (because I'm old).

Yelp
This is quickly becoming one of our favorite spot. Great service...Walter always takes care of us. They adjust happily for allergies and vegan diners. Most importantly the food and drinks are very good. Replaced the old bistro le source and made the space unique and fun. Menu changes often .... Difficult to find out what's available but if you stop in you will find something good!

Yelp
Specialty cocktails are fun. Bartender JT was super friendly. The inside is colorful with a beautiful mural on the back wall.

Yelp
I wish I could rate this higher. Lord knows Jersey City needs more culinary diversity and "creative Honduras" certainly fits that bill. The space and the service are both colorful and fun. It's just....the actual food is lacking. It sounds like the chef serves whatever he feels like making, so the menu changes quite often. But the portions weren't very big for the prices, and a lot of the dishes were kind of lackluster in flavor--like they didn't know if they wanted to go all in on spices/seasonings or keep it light enough for American palates. The best of the bunch were the Ensalada and Pollo Chuco. Yes, I know...salad, really? But the dressing was tasty and the greens were very fresh. The Chuco, while small, was perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, the Jalea Mixta was a big disappointment: more breading than seafood and what seafood there was, was mostly squid rings. The Ceviche Jipijapa was okay, but again, small in portion and lacking in flavor. And our dessert of Fried Bananas with Honey again had too much breading and not enough flavor. It's early days though, so maybe they'll climb out of the growing pains slump.

Yelp
Went with high expectations based on reviews, food was average. Cocktails were good, I had the pisco sour!

Yelp
This place deserves more praise!! Simply WOW! I forgot to take pictures as we finished the food less than 10 min haah. We got the Baleadas with steak, ceviche, fries and Shrimp tacos. everything was a 5/5!! The service was awesome too; everyone was very nice and sweet. The ambiance felt authentic and fun. Amazing job of the owner and the chef!! I will add some pictures to my review when we are back in a week.

Yelp
Recently opened in Downtown Jersey City's Paulus Hook neighborhood. Fun, young, energetic vibe with friendly, welcoming staff. Honduran and other Latam based menu reflecting the season. Good selection of wines, beers and Latin inspired cocktails. I was seated immediately on a random Friday night but that may not last. This place could well be a hit.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot serving big time flavors! Walking into the bright and vibrant restaurant, you'll immediately get a sense of the enjoyment you're going to experience. The variety of beautiful art decor on the walls plays the perfect predecessor for the equally unique and exciting flavors on both the cocktail and food menu. We came on an early Sunday afternoon and were able to grab seats at the bar. The bartender was a pleasure to have serving us as he took us through the background of the restaurant, chefs, and concept of their ever changing food and cocktail menus. The drink highlights included the elote old fashioned (made with corn whiskey, elote liqueur, and sprinkled with cotija cheese) and an amazing espresso martini which included a velvety smooth vanilla bean foam. The food was a latin moshpit, taking notes from various counties to build their eclectic menu: flavor packed pork papusas (made with rice flour instead of corn), pork maiz tetelas (made with a blue corn and giving the most satisfying crunch in each bite, and their baleadas filled with the freshest ingredients. Their menu literally changes everyday, so don't go looking for it to determine if you want to go or not. Walk by faith and not by sight straight through those doors and enjoy! Their future is bright for sure.

Yelp
WOW perquin did not disappoint and has some of the best flavor in every bite - every dish left us speechless. The rum punch (passion fruit based), hibiscus mojito, and pinarita were to die for. The carnitas tacos were some of the best we've ever had - packed with flavor. Every sauce was so simple yet delicious. We also had the salchipapa, empanadas, and ceviche. Rating this place a 5/5 - we loved the ambiance, food, cocktails, and the staff were amazing. There is no physical menu with menu options always changing - trust whatever the waiter and chef recommend. We will be back!!!!

Yelp
Such a great experience here at Perquin! The food was so authentic and incredible. The chef, Brian knows what he is doing! Came out and introduced himself, so personable and kind. Had a wonderful experience with the servers, Walter and Andres who made their recommendations. Highly recommend. So nice to see such an ethnic delicious spot in Jersey City!

Yelp
Everything here was 10/10. Service was amazing (shoutout Walter). Drinks were tasty, and food was unreal. Got the salchipapa, ceviche, (had a peanut sauce that was really interesting/good), baleadas with skirt steak, carnitas taco special and finished it with the banana fritas. Bad news is that I live a stones throw away so I'll be packing on some lbs the next few months before summer

Yelp
An absolute standout! From the welcoming atmosphere to the attentive, friendly staff, this place gets it right every time. The food is incredibly authentic and full of rich, bold flavors. The passion fruit margaritas are a personal favorite -- perfectly balanced and refreshing -- but everything on the menu is consistently excellent. I've visited several times, and each experience has been just as wonderful as the last. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic flavors, great drinks, and genuine hospitality.

Yelp
We went to this place a few months ago. We were excited to have a new Latin restaurant in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, we have not been back as the food was not as good as we would have liked. The flavors were not traditional Latin flavors and it was quite expensive.

Yelp
I wish I could leave a higher review - we had my husbands 40th birthday here and it was so so wonderful. Bryan went above and beyond to make it a truly special evening, the food was out of this world. The staff so clearly enjoy working here and their joy is contagious. The drinks (and mocktails!) were a hit, we got a bunch of friends out of BK and NYC and I feel like Perquín really showed off why JC is so special. We can't wait to go back.

Jenna R.

Yelp
Delicious food, amazing drinks, good service, and fire music. Had a great dinner, and this is a great new restaurant.

Yelp
Love Perquín! From the minute you walk in you feel the good vibes. Welcoming staff, good cocktails, fresh delicious food. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
WE NEEDED THIS IN PAULUS HOOK! If you live in the area you know there's not a ton of variety when it comes to food. Perquin is such a nice addition. The food was amazing, the drinks are so good, and the staff is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and order the corn pancakes if you come for brunch!
