The Best Restaurants & Bars In Columbia City

"This aperitivo bar and bottle shop is owned by La Medusa next-door. And while it seems logical to grab a drink with your date here while waiting for your dinner table, be sure to stick around for amari and snacks. There's fried food like crispy fish meatballs, saffron arancini, or the incredible chickpea panelle sandwich with mayo and lemon on a toasted sesame roll. And if you’re not into the bitter herbal stuff, don't let Campari scare you away—you can always order a glass of prosecco." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Seattle’s Coziest Bars - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This Columbia City aperitivo bar and bottle shop is owned by next-door Italian restaurant La Medusa, and while it seems logical to grab a drink with your date here while waiting for your dinner table, we encourage you to stick around for amari and snacks. Persephone’s space is decorated with string lights, a lot of happy green plants, and wacky labels from shelves of natural wine bottles. Grab a seat and get acquainted with a bitter red spritz you’ll choose from the huge chalkboard selection of amari and an all-star lineup of fried food like crispy fish meatballs, saffron arancini, or the incredible chickpea panelle sandwich with mayo and lemon on a toasted sesame roll. If you’re not into the bitter herbal stuff, don’t let the Campari scare you away—you can always order a glass of prosecco." - Aimee Rizzo

Seattle's 19 Best New Dishes Of 2022

"Panelle Sandwich Fried snacks and amaro on the rocks go together like laundry and procrastination, and when it comes to this Columbia City aperitivo bar, you can’t get much better than the panelle sandwich. It’s simply a toasted sesame slider bun with olive oil-seeped chickpea fritter triangles and mayo, along with radicchio leaves and lemon on the side for stacking and squeezing, respectively. But there’s power in the simplicity of a DIY sandwich with a squirt of bright citrus—a soulmate for your Campari soda." - aimee rizzo

Wonderful Wine Bars in Seattle

"A small but mighty destination for pasta and wine dinners, Columbia City’s La Medusa also has a wee market, bottle shop, and wine and amaro bar next door called Persephone. It’s not cramped, though, just cozy, with plenty of greenery and string lights, a handful of stools at a bar and little tables, warm coral walls, and shelves stocked thoughtfully. In the aperitivo tradition, you can sit and snack on fried smelt and saffron arancini pre-dinner (or post-lunch, if you will) or wander with a glass of Occhipinti frappato while you browse local produce and Southern Italian-leaning pantry items and bottles." - Eater Staff

I really love this place. One of the more unique spots in Seattle with an amazing Amari selection. They have a nice assortment of glassware they use depending on your drink. The staff are all really professional, helpful, and nice.

What an amazing and cozy Amaro bar! We had a lovely time sampling various Amari in a variety of forms (with soda, over ice, in cocktails) and nibbling on delicious italian aperitivi snacks from the kitchen.

We visited this place and had a really disappointing experience. The main girl there was incredibly rude—she loudly asked me in front of everyone if I even knew how to use the record player while I was just trying to figure out the sound system. On top of that, something seemed off with the payment. She charged our credit card $14 for bubbles and then gave cash instead. It felt sketchy, possibly even fraudulent.

This a cute little bar (and grocery) right next to La Medusa. I really enjoy the interior look with the pink. They just opened up and would be a good place to have a drink before going to dinner next door. This is definitely an Amaro bar. They do have a white and red wine available but overwhelming just Amaros and Fernets. The bits were nice. And the staff was helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I just really wish there were more drink options that weren't Amaros. Hard to see this be a go-to spot without it having more wines available. They do sell bottles of wine through the grocery but it's a $20 corkage fee to drink those.

Over priced morsels! Lovely concept but missed the mark. Small menu with limited options. Service was anxious to remove plates, told us to get up to get our own water, no drink menu with prices…strange experience.

An absolute gem of an amaro bar and Italian mercantile, set apart by the outstanding bar manager. The setting is cozy but still felt private, with an assortment of table, bar, and low chair seating scattered throughout. The ambiance is set appropriately with dimmed lights and vinyl on the stereo. Delicious small plates from the La Medusa kitchen complement the extensive (and initially intimidating) list of amaro aperitifs and digestifs. But the true star that will keep us coming back is the incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff. I can’t recommend sitting at the bar enough, despite a completely full house we were offered individualized recommendations with tasting notes that evolved over several rounds, which made navigating the impressive inventory a breeze. The retail component was fairly priced, well-stocked, and gave us the opportunity to take one of our favorite bottles home.

Do you need to get some Italian imported bits and bobs? Need some olives? Need some little fishes? How about grabbing a few pieces of fresh veg? This place is a great add to Columbia City. Do some light "snack shopping." Sit and drink an Amaro. (They have some less traveled bottles.) Then go to the butcher nextdoor and pick up something for dinner or go to the bakery a few doors down to compete your snack hoard.

As a lover of aperitifs and bitter flavors, this is my new favorite bar!!! The bartender was welcoming, knowledgeable, and gave us great recommendations. The space is beautifully decorated and has the perfect cozy vibe - a neighborhood cafe feel. Just a lovely place to slow down, relax, and savor some unique flavors!
