Peter Luger Steak House Review - Williamsburg - New York - The Infatuation

"After over 130 years of existence, Peter Luger has its critics and its apologists (not to mention its branches in Great Neck and Las Vegas). The thing is, if you come to Peter Luger expecting anything other than big, perfectly pink steaks, impeccable creamed spinach, and wedge salads with a bacon-to-lettuce ratio of one-to-one, you're doing it wrong. It’s a steakhouse after all. Don’t overthink it, and you'll have a great time here. Luger’s four wood-paneled rooms are filled with 50% tourists, 50% dedicated regulars—often large families celebrating birthdays, or groups of men who come here every Friday evening, each possess a Peter Luger Card (so they don't have to pay in cash or debit), and who don't need a menu to know exactly what they want. The order is already sorted. It has been for generations. photo credit: Emily Schindler That order revolves around steak, obviously. Things like the 1:1 wedge and the German fried potatoes—plus a martini, or a fat glass of wine—are worthy additions. But red meat is royalty. It arrives at your table in a pool of butter, on a plate so hot that when your server touches a few thick slices to the side before placing them on your plate, they give off a very satisfying sizzle. There's a science to this—you can't achieve a steak with such a hard crust and soft interior without it. Each server wears a buzzer on their belt, which alerts them when they need to pick a steak up from the kitchen. As one server said, “If I'm not there in 20 seconds, I may as well go home.” He did not crack a smile. photo credit: Emily Schindler photo credit: Emily Schindler photo credit: Noah Devereaux There are a few things you should know going in. The signature steak sauce tastes like doctored-up cocktail sauce, and that's just how it is. True regulars always order the plate of raw sliced tomatoes and onions, though no one really finishes it. And finally, your server is not going to hold your hand and whisper sweet nothings about seasonal ingredients in your ear, because there are none. But they will deliver you a sizzling steak with the speed of someone whose life depends on it, every single time. Food Rundown photo credit: Emily Schindler Porterhouse Steak A seasoned Peter Luger enthusiast once gave us some sage advice: always order the porterhouse for one less than your party size. Party of four? Steak for three. Party of three? Steak for two. And so on and so forth. We've done this every time, and we've always returned home with leftovers in a custom Peter Luger doggy bag—for the people we live with, who are jealous they didn't get the invite. They also do a slightly fattier rib steak for one or two, but the porterhouse is the classic order. photo credit: Emily Schindler Luger-Burger The burger is only served at lunch, unless you are a child. Then you can have it at dinner. This could be considered a hack, if you have a friend who looks 12, but ultimately—and we can’t believe we’re saying this—we don’t love the Peter Luger burger. There’s no sinking your teeth into this crumbly burger, and no point seeking it out if you’re here at a special occasion lunch. When you’re at Peter Luger, you’re ordering steak. photo credit: Willa Moore Free Bread A moment for the bread, especially the rolls, which are stuffed with tiny bits of onion and poppy seeds. You’ll receive the bread when you receive your big gravy boat of steak sauce. You can try dipping the bread into the sauce, but we prefer butter. photo credit: Willa Moore Iceberg Wedge Salad You can order a thick, glistening slice of bacon all by itself at Luger, but we prefer ours with a side of iceberg lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese. Less of a wedge, more of a slab, this is the premiere post-bread, pre-steak bite (the Caesar is forgettable by comparison). photo credit: Willa Moore Sliced Tomatoes & Onions Sorry, you have to. We don't make the rules, and we don't know who does. (Regulars chop this up and mix it with an order of that thick-cut bacon.) Creamed Spinach Our favorite meatless thing here. It’s really green, yet it’s somehow still exceptionally creamy. Like a creamed spinach that knows it’s the best, and doesn’t have to brag about it. Luger’s Special German Fried Potatoes Equal parts soft and crispy, with a heavy dose of onions and an even heavier dose of black pepper. If you’re trying to decide on your potato preparation—there’s also french fries, and a baked potato—these are the clear winner. photo credit: Emily Schindler Luger’s Special “Holy Cow” Hot Fudge Sundae Do you remember when life was simpler, and the highlight of your birthday was a sundae from your local ice cream store? This is that sundae. Schlag A pile of whipped cream. Why not? Use it as a dip for the shower of Peter Luger chocolate gold coins your server will bring to your table along with the check." - Willa Moore

Manhatta’s Panoramic Views Are the ‘Grandest’ Since Windows on the World, Critic Says - Eater NY

"The long-running Williamsburg icon Peter Luger Steak House will open its first international outpost in Tokyo in 2020. The global restaurant management company Wondertable will run the restaurant, which also has an outpost in Great Neck. Since it opened in 1887, Peter Luger has amassed accolades and a reputation as one of the top steakhouses in the world. It has become a bit of a tourist destination, too, so a global expansion tracks." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

Google
The far superior Peter Luger location imo. The service here is actually good here, unlike the Brooklyn location. Our server was great, very attentive and friendly while still being professional. The food was really good, the steak is very tender with very good flavor. Creamed spinach and German potatoes were great sides to have with the steak. Overall great experience.

We had a wonderful experience at Peter Luger! One of the most interesting parts of dining here is the service — all the servers are older gentlemen with strong personalities and a great sense of charm. If you’re celebrating a birthday, you’re in for a special surprise: a deep baritone birthday greeting that adds a memorable touch to your meal! The food was absolutely worth the price — rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The steak was phenomenal, and now we understand why it’s considered one of the best. Just a small warning: the plates are extremely hot, so don’t touch them!

Google
Creamed spinach was a 9/10 probably the best creamed spinach I've had at a restaurant. Steak was great, got it medium I think next time I'll go medium rare 8/10. Service was great. Bacon was 8/10. Spent around 350$. Lugers sauce definitely boosted the steaks score.

Came to try the burger at dinner. Also got a Cesar salad. The two of us ordered the same thing and the bill was $120! Left a $30 tip. $75 per person for a burger and salad is Insane but I did think the food was high quality and the service was good. Not sure I’ll be quick to come back at those prices but I loved it. Just very expensive.

My family & I have been coming to Petter Liger Steakhouse in GreatNeck since the early 2010s!! Every time we have family visiting the area—state. We bring them to the one in Long Island.! This one is so much better than the one in Williamsburg in my opinion. Sauce & Desert people are on their A game! Servers are comedians.

Google
Very old school steak house! Had a great time and food there, and the service was very good. The portion is quite large, can’t even finish them all. You have to try the steak with the sauce!

Google
I had a wonderful experience today. The staff was exceptionally professional and courteous throughout my visit. One staff member, in particular — whose name I, unfortunately, didn’t catch — went above and beyond by assisting me while I was filming the steak. Their attentiveness and thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to an already excellent dining experience. The food was outstanding, as expected, and the service truly elevated the overall experience. I look forward to returning soon.

After a 2 year hiatus, I recently returned to Peter Luger's Long Island location. The steak for three was okay for the most part – though a slightly burt. The first time we went the flavor was much better. We also decided to try their jumbo crab cake, just out of curiosity, but it wasn't particularly memorable.

Yelp
This might cause controversy but I think the meal I had here was better than the one I've had in Brooklyn! Maybe because it was less busy and we had lunch instead of dinner? I know this isn't the original but it's definitely one of the better options for steak! We also got to try the burger which was pretty much still mooing but it was super tasty! For 5 adults and 3 kids, we got a couple slices of bacon, a burger, a salad, 2 steaks for 2 (he recommended doing it this way instead of steak for 4 to get more meat) and a salmon for the kiddos. Sides: mushroom, asparagus, cream spinach, fries. Dessert: key lime pie, pecan pie, 2 sundaes. We were stuffed and I ate A TON of steak. This is the real deal if you want some good beef!

Yelp
We had a reservation for 7:45 but then changed it to 8 as we were running late. The thing I liked was when we called, they said drive safe, we'll hold your table. When we arrived, it was very busy and packed with people waiting. The took us straight to the back bar to wait for our table with others waiting as well. Apparently they aren't holding reserved table. It's ok because they were very gracious. We ordered a drink to take the edge off! We were seated after about 15 minutes and the wait staff quickly attended to us and brought bread, butter and the signature sauce. My table mates were quick to start with the sauce. It was my first time and I was happy with the butter! We ordered steak for three, medium rare. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We also had the creamed spinach and grill asparagus. Both were very tasty. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. The shrimp were HUGE! All of the food served was plentiful and we had take home. My dog was also lucky to get two bones out of the deal. We all ordered dessert, I had the apple strudel. We took them home as we were stuffed. However I ate the apple strudel the next day and it was absolutely the best apple anything I have ever had and I love apple pie. I definitely recommend Peter Lugers and this may have been my first but not my last visit.

Yelp
It was easy to make a same day reservation for dinner at 6:45 p.m. The woman I made the reservation with explained they seat per hour (i.e. 5:45, 6:45, 7:45, etc.). Valet is complimentary. I've never been so I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew that it was cash or debit card only. We weren't seated right away. We were funneled into the bar area that has bench seating at the wall opposite of the bar. You can't open a tab at the bar and then transfer it to your table. You have to pay for your bar tab in its entirety before you're seated at your table. Drinks were on the stronger, rougher side. We waited maybe ten minutes to be seated. I can't recall our server's name but he was nice, maybe slightly stoic. He had some funny quips to throw here and there. My husband ordered the tomato and bacon appetizer based on our server's suggestion. I am an absolute tomato fan. I grow them every year in our backyard and enjoy them frequently plain like you would an apple or a grape. There's a lovely sweetness to homegrown tomatoes. That being said, I did not enjoy paying that amount for several slices of tomato that didn't taste different than supermarket tomatoes. The sizzling bacon was fine but once my mother-in-law said it reminded her of ham, I couldn't untaste it. I did like eating a bite of tomato and bacon together. We shared a steak for two and rib steak for two between four adults (2 men, 2 women) and a six year old. We also ordered creamed spinach and German fried potatoes. We like our steak medium rare and it was prepared exactly so. Steaks had a nice crust to them and buttery flavor. I did feel like I had to really chew on the rib steak though. I enjoyed the steak more. We had enough to pack leftover rib steak to go. I split the apple strudel with a side of vanilla ice cream with my husband, sorbet for the kids, and my in-laws got the holy cow sundae. Everything was fine. I don't have any real glaring complaints except for the tomatoes. It just wasn't very memorable either. I think it's worth it to visit Peter Luger at least once since it's so iconic. If it's important to you to experience that piece of NY history, I'd say please do try it. I live nearby and there are other steakhouses I'd rather go to than dealing with the hassle of cash or debit card.

Yelp
Early business dinner on a Thursday evening. Consistently consistent. Food, service, dining room - all great, wouldn't change a thing.

Yelp
Couldn't go out tonight so my sister DoorDash a nice bday from Peter Luger. It was so good! Ordered on a Saturday night around 6:30pm prime time dinner and it was done pretty quick. This was actually my first time trying the place and all of it was pretty good. Only thing was steak a bit over cooked to my liking asking for medium rare and came out between medium to medium well done. But it was take out so can't expect too high. Steak was so soft and buttery, cream spinach was good and German potatoes were tasty. Oh and must get apple strudel. So good! Highly recommend and def want to try again but next time will dine in!

Yelp
I know some people say Peter Luger is overhyped..and there are better steakhouses. And while that may be the case, Peter Luger never disappoints, they are consistent and delicious. We arrived and had to wait in the bar area which is always the worst, but once we got seated things got better. Our server was fantastic and attentive. The food was amazing, and the ambiance was great. I will be back.

Yelp
Old skool steakhouse vibes. This review is for burgers, Best Burger in NYC better than red hook tavern.. for sure. Bacon was interesting too and good service. Salad and drinks were on par as well. Would definitely dine here again and recommend for the burger and ambiance/sevice. I will return for the famous steak soon & the delicious famous steak sauce.

Yelp
Peter Luger's in Great Neck is an absolute gem for steak lovers. The steak is nothing short of AMAZING--perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection every time. Their dry aged steaks are something I constantly think about. Their bacon is a must-try, crispy and flavorful, setting the bar for what great bacon should be. The atmosphere is classic and inviting, and the staff is wonderful--attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to offer great recommendations.

Yelp
Came here with the fam to celebrate an early birthday dinner for me. This location is convenient, has valet (& street) parking, and not to mention, I love their thick cut bacon & steak sauce! You can buy them at the supermarket as well. We got the steak for four, filet of sole, french fries, brocolli, and German potatoes. All the food came out relatively quick- bread basket & butter first, followed by the bacon, fish entree, sides, and steak. The bacon hit the spot- I ate it with some bread mmm, the fish was OK, tasted like fish sticks, nothing special about this dish, the sides were good as always- brocolli was bland and hard though. The steak in "liquid gold" (as Alex said) was juicy and cooked to perfection. Their steak sauce is one of the best I've ever had. Our server, Alex, was absolutely amazing- he was attentive, always around to serve us, ask us how everything is, and so sweet, which made the experience that much better! We ended our night with the holy cow hot fudge sundae- he even topped it with a candle & said hbd to me. It was delicious, btw. Another memorable dinner in the books- we will definitely be back again! FYI, no credit cards- cash, debit cards and checks only. Also, for this location, you have to call in to make a reservation.

Yelp
Our daughter was going back to college after winter break and she wanted a good steak meal. It was too late for me to defrost steaks properly so we went to her favorite steakhouse, Luger's. Just one of the many perks of being a daughter of two Yelp Elites I guess . We have been to this Luger's many times but never around 3pm like this time. We had to eat early because we had to get into the city for a show (yes, I wish I had my daughter's life sometimes...). This was the first time that we got warm bread! There were only a couple of other tables occupied so I am wondering if this time is so dead that they do not have premade bread. In any case, we enjoyed the bread a lot more than we usually do. My wife and daughter got the porterhouse for two, rare. I rarely get here for lunch so I got their burger, which is available only for lunch. I also knew my wife and daughter would not finish the steak so I would get some steak too. Pretty good strategery right? For apps, we slit the iceberg wedge salad and 2 slabs of bacon (yes, we know the salad comes with bacon; what can I say, we are carnivores). Very good! My burger was good although not as juicy as I would have liked. It did have a nice char and flavor. Fries were a little on the thin side for me because I really like chunky steak fries. Steak was perfectly cooked, good char and very good flavor. Even with me helping out, we still had leftovers. And with my daughter leaving for school, I get them all. Even better strategery! We were running late so no holy cow dessert . We will have to pick something up in the city.

Yelp
We live in Virginia and have gone to many steak houses. But we always look forward to dinner here with our two best friends! The porterhouse steak is always cooked perfectly and in my estimation has no match! Creamed spinach and hash browns are always part of dinner as is the Holy Cow dessert. We also look forward to chatting with Kiernan the bartender who makes perfect drinks! Already looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Food was great, been here multiple times as visiting family wanted the brand steak house. I am not a big fan but it still a place I would go for visiting family. Been here for birthday and they sing and for relatives visiting from afar. Love the decor and the butter veg. Steak could have been less burned. Don't forget to the schlag! The service was always good/fast and friendly. The drink menu could use a little updating though and they only accept cash

Yelp
I got my stitches out today and my sister said let's go to Peter Luger. It was down the road from the Doctor's Office. We valet parked and went inside, Roman was a sweetheart and also our bartender Jeff. He was great. When you go ask for a Tequliatini with a twist. You will love it. The food was amazing. They never let you down with the quality of food and relaxed ambiance.

Yelp
Food was fine, atmosphere unimpressive, some of the staff were a bit testy, men's bathroom (as per my uncle) reeked of urine.

Yelp
The famous Peter Luger!! Food is delicious, staff are friendly, and the restaurant is traditional! Peter Luger's is famous for their delicious steak. Other delicious menu items are the bacon, creamed spinach, and holy cow sundae dessert!! Creamed spinach is some of the best I've ever had. The bacon appetizer is thick and cooked to perfection. The potatoes were also a good side dish. The holy cow dessert is huge, and they give you free gold coins for dessert. Drink menu is large as well. Highly recommend a reservation as wait times can be large. They were friendly enough to come get us from the next door bar when our table was ready

Yelp
Nothing and I mean NOTHING beats Peter Luger. My husband and I dined here this past Saturday. We arrived over an hour early since the city traffic wasn't bad. They couldn't take us earlier so we just relaxed in the waiting area. Heads up, it's a very inconvenient spot to wait since waiters are walking around with hot plates of steak. I have no idea how customers don't manage to bump into the waiters. Our waiter, Raul, was excellent. He was welcoming, very detail-oriented and served us with a smile. For our appetizer, we had their famous bacon slab. It was delicious as always. Thick, juicy and fatty! Our porterhouse for two was mouthwatering. This really is the world's best steak! A little fattier than I had hoped, but tender and juicy, nonetheless. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the creamed spinach and I thoroughly enjoyed the fries. We were beyond full but still made room for dessert. The chocolate chocolate chip ice cream was yummy and you can't beat the schlag!! I appreciated Raul's rendition of "Happy Birthday"! Visit Luger's for the dinner of your life!

Yelp
Came here for my birthday dinner. Everything was great! Food was excellent. We ordered steak for 3 and had plenty to take home for steak and eggs the next day. Dessert was super yummy and creamy (cheesecake) and a must have! Server was attentive and was great at making suggestions for wine to go with our meal. Overall, excellent and would definitely go back. As others have mentioned, make sure you bring cash or have a debit card as they do not take credit cards!

Yelp
A decent place for steakhouse lovers, though I will say that this place has gone down a bit in quality. I have been here for years but the last time I went back, it didn't hit as much as my first couple of times. Don't get me wrong, the steak is still super great quality but I think the rise in other steakhouses has overshined Peter Luger's. Recapping my recent experience: Service always 10/10, never had any issues, except that reservation system is not that great because you still have to wait a bit even after you have a reservation. Food: We got the Porterhouse for 3 for 4 people (this is fairly enough), Jumbo Shrimp cocktail, Sizzling Bacon, and Fried potatoes. Bacon was always salty but is super juicy and is a must to get! Shrimp cocktail is decent but definitely skippable. I recommend the Porterhouse medium rare, and fried potatoes simultaneously so meat is not overwhelming. The steak is a bit burnt for my liking, but the insides are still juicy. The quality could be better. We got apple strudel and chocolate mousse for dessert but they were just average. Overall, it's still pretty decent but it is a place that is not cheap and may not be your best experience. Service does make up for it. I haven't been to the Williamsburg one so I can't compare

Yelp
Father's Day was crowded here and, despite arriving on time for our reservation, we still waited 40 minutes to be seated. We didn't have that problem three years ago on Mother's Day and other times we were there over the past 30 years, we were seated shortly. Valet parking is complimentary. They don't take credit cards, but in lieu of cash will accept a vetted Peter Luger card. Service by waiters was polite and attentive. The men's room needs better management. At least in Nassau County, if not in Brooklyn as well, Peter Luger has been synonymous with great steak, which is not to say I haven't enjoyed as good at the Capitol Grille. Both are expensive. My son thought their Caesar salad appetizer was exceptional. We enjoyed their porterhouse steak for two, which I thought was very good but not great, and split an oversized baked potato. My wife thought the salmon "steak" was delicious, but had to take home half of it because it was the size of two large portions, and she split her side of broccoli among the steak wolves. They shared the "Holy Cow" ice cream sundae and I thought their warm apple strudel was much better than expected. They gave us a huge side dish of thick whipped cream, way more than we needed for our desserts, which was consistent with the very generous dish of sour cream they previously gave me with my baked potato. Despite some issues, still in the 5-star range.

Yelp
Girls night out! A steakhouse that has their own credit card. Suffice to share, cash or debit card if not a Peter Luger card holder. Great timing as we were seated without a reservation when we left, standing room was scarce. The lounge/bar was great as we waited for our table. We were escorted to our table and tge waiter immediately approached. We opened with lump crab cake, big enough to share. We ordered steak medium well, creamed spinach, and a baked potato. I did not touch the bread basket. Mi hermana enjoyed but advised the bread was not warm.We did not finish the steak for two as to save room for dessert. A hot fudge subject with a cherry on top hit the spot.

Yelp
It's so good! I can 't imagine how much regret it would be if I missed the bacon snack! It's mine now

Yelp
So i didn't meet Peter, i think he was hiding from me. Regardless it was good. The service was super fast and the waiters were very polite. despite it being busy everything was managed very well. The potatoes and creamed spinach were sooooo delish. The steak was very juicy but for such a prestigious restaurant i was expecting more. The steak was a little bland for the price. The holy cow was amazing though.

Yelp
This is the steakhouse where all others now try to emulate. Till this day, Luger still set the bar for steak and now with their famous 1/2lb burger. From the minute you walk in and get that old world steakhouse vibe to their impeccable service and of course the meat, there's simply nowhere else that can replicate. Keep doing what you been doing for 100 years. I will always be a loyal customer.
google avatar

Yelp
For such a large restaurant to have a wait regularly is kind of crazy, but I can finally see why. The legendary ribeye sear was so good that it felt like BBQ on the outside, but seared on the inside. The super thick cut bacon was worth it too, well seasoned and crispy. Not sure how much I liked their steak sauce, but it is what I expected. I'd go back if I could get a reasonable time for a reservation.

Yelp
Honestly, this place is a decent steak place, given the hype. I had to try this place at least once while visiting NYC. Their service and waiters were amazing. They were all very friendly and nice and great to talk to. The steak was cooked perfectly. The house sauce was good. Wanted a bottle to bring home. Steak wasn't amazing or anything but good. Price is pretty high for what it is but still a good steak.

Yelp
For what this place is, its incredible. The bread basket is unbelievable. I dream of their bread. The steak is perfection. Especially with the lugers sauce. I loved the fries and crispy onions. The designs on the plates make me laugh becuase theyre so rediculous but they always remind you that you're at peter lugers. No frills meat and potatoes. I love it.
google avatar

Marc K.

Yelp
Old time steak restaurant classic. Comfy chairs and spacious tables. Service was impeccable. No music was music to my ears, although the cacophony from the endless string of happy birthday crooning. Oh-My-God it would never end. The Luger hash browns were crispy and well seasoned and the creamed spinach was smooth and very delish. The steak....I am sorry to say, was a little less than average, a little under seasoned, and a tad tough. So....here's the deal--overall it was about average for steakhouses. I had given this place 5s many a time but not today.

Yelp
Not based on a ton of recent reviews I've read. I've been to the Great Neck location numerous times some years ago and really raved about it. Now it's become a tourist thing with the usual issues of crowding, long waits in spite of having a rezzie, diminished food quality and service. Etc.

Yelp
We had wanted to come here for the longest time since I found out they take debit cards (not credit cards, debit cards!) We were originally going to come for lunch for my hubs birthday over the summer but I got sick, then I was away, blah blah took until winter to finally come here. It was worth the wait! Our son couldn't care less about his delicious fries we instead enjoyed lol. Loved our burgers. Ambiance was great and it was a perfect place for lunch. It was winter break so it seemed a lot of parents had the same idea as us to come for a burger lunch with a kid :P our son did very much enjoy his bread which he cut himself! Almost gave my hubs a heart attack lol. We also saved some chocolate coins they gave us to use this Sunday :P

Yelp
Decided to finally try this steak house and what was the perfect time my husband's birthday. We came on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. Our car was parked via valet, and once in the restaurant we were nicely greeted. The restaurant was pretty empty but a few older patrons were there for lunch. We were seated immediately but we did made a reservation before attending. Our waiter was super nice and attentive. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. Service was great and we had an overall good time. Please note this place is expensive. My only complaint is that for such an expensive restaurant they could spend some money on getting a changing table for the bathroom. I had to change my newborn on two chairs in the bathroom right next to the toilet "yuck".

Yelp
Best steak, great service , relaxed ambience, great ceaser salad with homemade croutons.

Yelp
Much better steakhouses. Past its prime. Potatoes were cold and stale. Meat bland and grey. Overpriced, living off reputation of times past.

Yelp
Peter Luger Steakhouse is legendary for its mouthwatering steaks. They're known for their prime dry-aged beef, which is tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. I usually get mine medium rare which comes with a nice pink center. It is always seared perfectly. Whether you prefer a juicy porterhouse or a succulent ribeye, their steaks are sur to impress. They also offer a variety of delicious sides like creamed spinach and German-style potatoes (pour the steak juice on top ). The service is on point and the old-school atmosphere is definitely a nice touch. They are CASH only!!

Yelp
Worth it. Peter Luger's has been on my radar for a loooong time. Every time I've been in NYC, it was totally out of the way, usually a quick trip and I didn't have time. This trip was finally my time. I brought my son. We kept it simple. Steak for two. One baked potato and Brocolli. While we wait, they start you off with a basket of bread, butter and their famous steak sauce. Nice try. I'm saving my stomach for the main event. As the waiter arranges the table for the pending gastronomical event, your taste buds dance with anticipation. Then finally... You hear the sizzle well before you see the steak. You hope, you're right, it's yours. The waiter positions the sizzling hot steak so the butter and juices pool to on side. He holds a single piece of the pre-cut steak onto the plate to illustrate how how the plate is. He places a few pieces on your plate with the cholesterol drizzle. I forgot to take a picture I was so excited. The best dry aged steak I've ever tasted. My 12 year old and I proceed to devour every sliver. We finished the evening with a holy cow dessert, which compared to the main course, was close to mediocre. And yes, we got the gold coins. Eating here was an experience. I'm glad to have shared it with my son. I would highly recommend coming here for any occasion if you have the cash. Literally cash, they don't accept CC.

Yelp
I know this place is an institution so finally made it to Great Neck since my son had a gift certificate. Came on Memorial Day so nice that it was open. Got lunch reservations for opening. It wasn't packed but there was a decent amount of people for first seating. Staff is ok at door. Asks if your party of four is there without looking at you to see your party of 4 is clearly there. Seated a few min after opening g and a basket of rolls and butter are out on table with dish of steak sauce. No burgers served on holidays ( but exception for small kids). We got the wedge salad, steak for two and burger, fries and side of mushrooms. Food came out fairly quickly and was very tasty. Burger was pretty basic as there are tastier ones in the city. Rest of food was good and waiter was legit and takes job seriously. People come in pretty casual so doesn't seem like there's a dress code but maybe for later in evenings. I am not sure what the hype is but since it's still here, the people must like it and keep coming back.

Yelp
Legendary. Lives up to the hype. Went with the classics and I thought the steak was worth every penny. Service was immaculate. Schlag!

Yelp
The venerable Peter Lugers lives up to its legend. Traditional wood adorned setting with A+ service and solid food for large groups & couples. Folks were dressed from causal (I saw a man in shorts) to business casual- blazer with button down and khakis. Went with the fellas to celebrate two old buddies retirement from law enforcement. My group is loud so we were sat in the side dining room which is very nice. Our server Nick was a class act and really took care of us. Funny guy too! Prob see him at the comedy cellar one day. The choice of single malts and blends are extensive. had an old fashion or three that hit the spot. At Lugers you have a choice of steak for one, two, three or four. It looks like the singles are bone in dry aged ribeye where the two - four are dry aged porter house- NY strip and filet separated by a T-bone. I shared a steak for 3 with two other big eaters and it was quite enough with german potatoes (home fries) cream of spinach and thick cut bacon for an app. The bacon is delicious and highly recommended. Don't let the cows get lonely in there. The table bread, fresh knots and sticks, are a great start. The potatoes are a nice mix of crispy and soft, diner style. The cream of spinach is of course..creamy with just the right amount of saltiness. The steaks...evenly cooked as ordered- medium rare. Beautiful buttery crust with a nice red center. The namesake sauce is warmed and of course is the genuine article. Delicious and filling. We were too full for dessert but they kindly put some gelt -chocolate coins out and interestingly offer whipped cream with the coffee. Never would have thought of it, but it was great. It goes without out saying that a classy establishment like this was clean and orderly. 100% a place to take a date or family for a special occasion without trekking into BK for the grandaddy location.

Yelp
Hands down our favorite steakhouse in NY area! First time came to Peter Luger bc we wanted to see what the famous NY steakhouse was all about. Made a reservation a couple of weeks ahead and no difficulty there. They don't take credit cards though so keep some cash with you or use debit card here. The ambiance was very classic and traditional, you have your very formal servers dressed in suits so it makes you feel very fancy. They also handle the steak pieces with a lot of skill. The steak is truly the highlight of the place. So tender, juicy, just overall perfect. We have been here a few more times since then and have left satisfied each time. Would greatly recommend Peter Luger's for anyone looking for a memorable steak experience!

Yelp
Peter Luger's Steak House is nothing short of special so when we had something worth celebrating this was the "chosen" place. It did not disappoint. Due to our large party of ten, a reservation was most definitely required. Our table was located in the perfect spot and comfortably accommodated all of us. Steak, steak, steak and more steak! They have clearly mastered this. From their service to presentation, the steak is the star! To start with, we were presented with a variety of dinner rolls. With our large party of ten, we ordered Steak for two X 5, creamed spinach, broccoli, onion rings, French fries and their German potatoes. While all the sides were nice, it was the steak that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We ordered medium rare and medium; all agreed that medium rare is the way to go for all. To top off the evening, some had coffee and a few of us shared the Holy Moly Hot Fudge Sunday with homemade schlag (whipped cream).

Yelp
Came here on a weekday night for dinner. Always make sure to make a reservation so you don't need to wait long. We made reservation, got there and was seated immediately. Food is solid. They were very friendly with my kids too. The kids love the bread! We always order the porterhouse for 3 for our family of 4. And we order fries and creamed spinach. Always delicious! Steak was cooked to perfection! The fries are flavorful and delicious. We needed our meal with icecream and the kids got extra chocolate coins from the waiter!

Yelp
I visited Peter Luger a few times in the past decade. It's such a classic place but It's sad to say my recent experience was disappointing. While the vibes were great and I still liked the hot fudge ice cream and bacon was excellent, the sides were too salty and the main courses - steak and lamb were soo gamey and almost not so fresh. (To note : I love steak /meat dishes and usually have medium rare and comfortable with rare) . There is nothing "wow" about it now compared to other steak houses in the city, and the price now is just not worth it. Look forward to it bar raising to its old standard. Plus - I had note in rest that it's my husband bday and they did nothing about it. Not the customer service that it should be.

Yelp
Solid place to eat with the family. The service was great and the food was good. It's a cash only establishment which makes it a bit inconvenient since you have to grab enough cash beforehand or use their ATM with a fee.

Yelp
Delicious steaks and great service. Old school ambiance, very German feeling. We were stuffed. We had the steak for 2, a side of bacon, wedge salad, two cocktails (margarita and cosmo), a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, spinach, mushroom, and potatoes, and a key lime pie with coffee and Schlag. Teo and the Italian waiter at the end did a great job. Around $400 with the tip. We went for a late lunch around 2:30 so it didn't feel too crowded. Great time to go.

Yelp
I have eaten at Peter Luger's for decades. It is still the best steakhouse in America. I tried their location in Long Island for the first time. It was just as consistent as the Brooklyn location. Highly recommend if you're looking for the best porterhouse steak in the country. This is the place to go.

Yelp
Peter Luger is an important place to our family. We come 2x a year and it's something we all look forward to and I have so many happy memories. Yesterday we went and had the worst experience. We drove an hour each way to get there and were rushed out in an hour and 15 mins. I don't know if it's because we didn't have drinks or what but it wasn't cool. The food was great, the host was rude like always. It's too much money to be rushed as if we were at a diner. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Service was miserable. Bloody Mary was one of the worst I have seen in years. I was served a better one on the flight out. The food was just ok and not good enough to make up for the poor service

Yelp
My family friend took me for dinner here on Saturday as she has visited the one in Brooklyn & said the steaks was awesome. We have steak for 4 & it was amazing. Our waiter Mark did an awesome job in taking care of us & making great suggestions for our meal. For dessert we had caramel cone ice cream & enjoyed all the sides of cream spinach & German potatoes. The walls were decorated with nice pictures & it was very busy but moving. Definitely will be back & I hope to visit the original Al one in Brooklyn also.
