Phatties Bake Shop

I have been meaning to try Phatties for awhile and I am glad I was finally able to make the trip. The flavors were amazing! I ordered the pumpkin donut, the chocolate cupcake and the carrot cake. The latter 2 are not pictured, as they were eaten quickly by my friends. I have friends who are gluten sensitive, so finding this shop is very convenient and vital for the sweet tooth. The pumpkin donut is shaped more like a soft baked cookie, but it is definitely packed with flavor. The shop is clean, bright, and inviting. The customer service was also great! If you can not eat gluten or knows someone who appreciates vegen treats, this spot is for you. I highly recommend. Eat up!!!

So amazing!!! Hero was so helpful and offered to take care of me when I told him how I never tried the edible cookie dough I purchased last time because I left it in our Airbnb. Love the coffee and all of the delicious treats. Always a place I stop by for vegan gluten free delicious treats, adorable decor and fun experience when we come in town!

Very welcoming customer service and atmosphere. There was very little wait time for my drinks. Drinks were wonderful and the peanut butter cookie was amazing. Sophia attended me with love and care and and i will definitely be coming back soon!

Ordered our wedding cake here for our small elopement gathering and it was beautiful, delicious and perfect!! No one could believe it was gluten free and there was not one sliver that went to waste. The online order process was a seamless one and very simple. The day before the order was ready, the baker texted to confirm a couple of things and the pickup was easy and pleasant.

This place was incredible. We went and had every expectation exceeded. The staff working were incredible, offering us a sample as we entered (that was SO yummy) and then the food we ordered was incredible. The cinnamon role was delicious and the avocado toast was so good. As a gluten free girly, the food was so good that I almost questioned if it was gluten free. Would highly recommend this place.

Delicious, thoughtful vegan food! The breakfast sandwich was delicious although the bun felt a little heavy/overpowering. I did go late and I believe they were out of the usual bun option so partly my fault. The service was lovely! They were kind, welcoming and helpful in choosing what to order. The menu looked amazing and we will be back to try many more things! There isn’t much seating- it’s more of a take and go sort of place.

Vacationed in San Diego for my birthday, and coming from a place with a limited gluten-free /vegan baking scene, I was excited to order a cake from Phatties after my spouse did some searching online. I ordered in advance entirely online, which was super convenient. Lemon cake with a raspberry preserve layer and fresh raspberry frosting - SO GOOD. It was one of my only birthday cakes ever in my life and I was so thrilled - it made my day! It was beautiful and a great size for a small group of people! The shop itself is absolutely adorable also with pink decor everywhere. There were lots of other gluten free/vegan baked goods available to purchase, and we also got oat milk lattes. I’ll be back the next time I’m in SD! This has street parking and the area is kinda busy, so you may have to park a little ways down the street and walk. It’s located in a walkable area!

Absolutely amazing! Very friendly, knowledgeable staff and even better food - all gluten and vegan options! I got the cinnamon roll, cookie dough and a lavender matcha all so good!

Wow. This place was in our list for a while. It is the bomb!!! Paradise for Vegan and Gluten Free lovers. No one can imagine how delicious the pastries and breakfast options are here. They have from cakes, to cupcakes, pastries, doughnuts Cruminal Cookies, coffees and matcha. We ordered a Coconut Matcha, a Campfire Latte, 4 flavors of doughnuts, bagel with Vegan Cream Cheese, Banana Loaf and a Chocolate Muffin. Everything was excellent. Ambiance is cool relax. Small place thought with only a couple of tables out on the sidewalk. Service was outstanding... both employees made the environment super cheerful. This is a huge A plus for us. Place is small and it only has tight street parking. We went on a Saturday at 10am so it was pretty busy.

I had a very disappointing experience due to their poor customer service and lack of professionalism. I placed an online order for a cake and received an email confirmation, although it did not include an order number. Thankfully, I took a screenshot at checkout. When my niece arrived to pick it up, she was told they had no record or receipt for the order. She called me, and while I was checking my credit card (which showed no charge, meaning the order was never actually processed), I asked her to wait while I got back to her. While waiting, she mentioned she might order a coffee since the menu looked good. Instead of being helpful or even neutral, the employee who was "assisting" us rudely told her that she had no reason to be there anymore since the order "didn't exist." Completely unnecessary, rude, and unprofessional. Mistakes happen, but the attitude and lack of customer care made this experience much worse. If you plan to order online, be very careful and make sure to call the shop directly to double-check that your order was actually placed. Unfortunately, I won't be returning after this experience.

An amazing bakery that I have brought everyone I'm close to to try! My first time here I was absolutely blown away with the fact that I could eat EVERYTHING!! Every single item I've had here has been absolutely amazing. Their coffee is amazing I love the Ube cold foam because vegan cold foam is SO fun and I never get to have it, their jalapeno cheddar bagel and their breakfast sandwiches are my favorite things I've ever had here for sure, I love the savory items. My sister can be picky when I make her vegan egg items but even she loved the quiche and egg bites especially so they just do so many things right. But oh my god their sweets are amazing. For my birthday and anyone I know I love to get an array of items because everything is amazing. If they have the tres leches that's definitely a favorite of mine always. I love their edible cookie dough, and absolutely everything always hits. I love that they tend to have samples so I always end up buying what they have being sampled because it's so good. Probably my favorite bakery I've ever been to because of the diversity of items they have plus the amazing drinks. No matter the mood you're in they always have something that will taste amazing! It's also the cutest place I've ever seen. I love the theme and I love when it's Christmas time and it's time for the Pink Christmas decor. Thank you for being a staple here in San Diego for me! And of course have to shout out the amazing people who work here!! Always soo welcoming and so nice and it's amazing to stop in here because everyone makes it such an amazing place to be.

Heard about this GF place and had to stop by. Picked up a carrot cake, churro donut, morning muffin and a spiced apple shortbread donut. Flavors were good, and the variety was exciting, but everything was really dense (often happens with GF).

I am not a person with any dietary restrictions... and part of the reason I love to Yelp is because I love to go out to eat and am open to trying pretty much everything. However, I realize that not everyone is able to eat everything. I typically buy cupcakes and balloons for each of my interns on their birthdays, but last year it was brought to my attention that one of my interns cannot eat gluten or dairy. I wanted to get her something different this year so I looked to find Phattie's. I decided to buy a few things in hopes that she would like something. I bought her the birthday cupcake (which was decorated for Halloween), pumpkin scone, and sugar free banana bread. I wanted to have something for lunch for work, so I ordered the "sausage" breakfast sandwich. I made my order online the night before and requested curbside pickup, as I wasn't sure about parking and needed to get to work early that morning. Anyway, the curbside pickup didn't work very well, as I think the one staff member was busy doing something else. However, there were plenty of places to pull up and hop out at that time of day. The place was super cute, and all pink. If I hadn't been in a hurry, I would have looked around. My order was ready and waiting. Anyway, I gave my intern the pastries and later on asked for an honest review. She said that she enjoyed them all, and is very picky with vegan desserts, as they are often dry. However, she said they were all moist and delicious and that she would definitely go back. I had the breakfast sandwich, though I had reheated it for lunch. The first bit was a bit of an adjustment, as I don't usually eat vegan food, but after that I really enjoyed it and almost forgot that it wasn't a regular breakfast sandwich. I would definitely say Phattie's is on the pricey side, but I also think that a place that specializes so much merits the price. I would definitely return whenever I'm making a special purchase for someone with dietary restrictions.

PHATTIE'S IS FREAKING FIRE!!! INSANE MATCHA LATTE. I got strawberry puree with lavender agave... life changing. most delicious matcha latte i've ever had the pleasure of crossing my lips. Oh. My. God. Not to mention that the gluten free ube lemon donut was so delicious and moist and flavorful I could have cried. 10/10!!!! The staff are the sweetest and most loveliest people and the shop is just the cutest. VISIT!!! YOU WANT MATCHA, THEY GOT MATCHA. Go to Phattie's for the best latte you can imagine.

I have been taking my grandson here for years. I can't give enough kudos to the staff. Always have a minute and kind enough to talk to the little guy. We always make it a big deal to get his holiday treats from here.

Got Gluten Free? yeah you know me! How did we just discover Phatties? When Pure left town, we've been at a loss for a spot with gluten-free cakes and cupcakes. Special ordered some treats for a birthday and these guys did not disappoint. They also have a fantastic mix of tasty coffee options with all the milk alternatives (including unicorn*). Wayne and Mary are also amazing people. I'd post a pic of what we had made, but it wouldn't do the amazing taste justice. If you're in need of some GF goodness, you can't go wrong here. * I don' think they actually have unicorn milk. I'm joking. But I also stopped looking at the list once I saw coconut milk.

I went over to Phattie's on Sunday morning to pick up some cupcakes for a gathering later in the day. Fortunately, there were a number of six-packs of cupcakes in the refrigerator ready to be purchased. I bought 4 of the six-packs (chocolate, red velvet, pumpkin and carrot, and strawberry lemon). The flavors were not written on the packages and I asked one of the employees to write the flavors on them, and they happily obliged which was very helpful. I also got an Americano and a coffee cake muffin for M. (He said that the muffin was tasty and he love the crumbly crunch on the top.) Later that evening, I shared the cupcakes with my friends and they heartily enjoyed them. We loved that the cupcakes are vegan and gluten-free, and since two of my friends are gluten-free, it really made their day that they could enjoy these treats without worrying. The flavors on the cupcakes were wonderful, they were aesthetically appealing and they all were gobbled up in a matter of minutes. :) Phattie's is pretty in pink, cute, and small. There is no indoor seating but there are a couple of tables outside on the sidewalk. Parking can be challenging on Voltaire, but it can be found with a little determination. This is a great little bakery, run by kind and talented folks. Stop by and you will be glad you did!

Wow. What a way to respond to a customer. Now I will definitely not be returning and I will be letting everyone know not to come here. Word of mouth is a great way to spread the news. Shame on you mr owner.

As someone who is gluten free and vegan, there aren't a lot of options for bakeries out there for me. I'm so glad I tried this place. Everything looked so good! I had a hard time deciding what to get. I ended up with a snickerdoodle donut, smores donut, and lava cake muffin. And hash browns that didn't make it into the picture because I ate them in the car. Everything was fabulous, highly recommend!

I ordered some gluten free cupcakes from Phattie's for my husbands birthday and they turned out wonderful. The ordering process was seamless and was done entirely online. The service was friendly and straightforward for pick up. The shop has a cute vibe and they have cafe seating out front if you would like to grab a coffee and enjoy your pastry at the shop.

Open on Thanksgiving. Scone was really good. Muffin, not so much. Coffee wasn't very good. Friendly staff.

Today was again a 10/10 experience. I was able to use my birthday rewards and got the cookie butter latte and the sugar free banana bread. I can't wait to come back and try their cinnamon donut!!

This place is SO CUTE! Why didn't I come here sooner?! I ordered a Salty Canadian Almond Milk Latte and the Gluten Free Breakfast Bagel without Cheese that had the owner's very own homemade gluten free bun! WOW Both were exquisite and I can't wait to return to try other menu items!

Friendly and fast service! Went right when they opened. Vegan and gluten free which was a bonus! Coffee was excellent and not overly sweet. Had the maple bourbon latte. Has a cute vibe with a handful of seating options available. Would go again next time I'm in San Diego! Also had the sugar free banana bread which was moist and flavorful.

I'm such a Phattie Fan! If you need a boost in life, you need to stop here. My day got so much better after walking in and ordering some treats. The staff were so pleasant and kind. I was offered samples and suggestions of things to try. I had four samples and they were moist, flavorful, and not too sweet. Everything is made on-site by the talented team. What blows my mind is it's vegan and gluten free. The coffee was great with non-dairy and caffeine free options as well. I had to get their carrot cake as it's a best seller. They had a nut free option too. They have fresh doughnuts, pop tarts, scones, banana bread, and more! There's something for everyone. The decor inside is stunning! I love the black and white tattooed glam shots actors. The pink payphone is a fun selfie must. If you spend a certain amount of money, you can spin the prize wheel! I won a t-shirt! Get over here and explore this fun bake shop. You won't be disappointed.

I have been here a few times to get my sweet fix. I can't have dairy or gluten, so a vegan/GF bakery is right up my alley. I live in La Mesa and was a little nervous the first time I went, because I didn't want to be disappointed that I made the trip to Point Loma if it wasn't great and low and behold, it's amazing every time! I have had the lemon blueberry mini loaf (so so good), the coffee cake and the cinnamon roll. All have been delicious. Nothing has been too dry or lacking flavor. As someone that has dabbled in baking GF/DF I had to stop because nothing was turning out great and then I was wasting $30-$35 on baking ingredients for nothing. I know it may SEEM like this shop is expensive, but comparing GF/DF ingredient cost to regular ingredients is like comparing apples... and champagne. Plus, it's pretty in line with a lot of local bakeries. Service has always been great and it's really cute inside as well. If you are like me and want to see what's available ahead of time, they have an order online option and it will show you what's available. Thank you Phatties for supplying my sweet treats! You started out my Mother's Day perfectly!

I was in town visiting some girlfriends and had the absolute most wonderful experience at Phatties!! First of all, as a gluten free girl, it was HEAVEN to be able to order anything in the store!! Second, the service was so so incredible-- Hero was so welcoming and kind to myself, my friends, and everyone who entered. Little did I know in the moment, but just minutes before my friends and I came in, an emotionally unbalanced person had spit in the face of the head baker-- and the cops had to get involved. It takes an extreme level of professionalism to keep things moving so seamlessly after an event like that. Third-- there is flower wallpaper on the CEILING, people !! If there is that level of attention to detail for decor, you just KNOW the baked goods are going to be perfection as well. And they WERE! I highly recommend the Cookie Monster cookie, the pop tart, and the salty Canadian latte My girlfriends and I came back the next day-- and, had my flight not creeped up on us, we would have also come for a third day in a row! Can't wait to visit again when I'm back in town

I usually come in here for coffee and a vegan breakfast sandwich, but have never been able to leave without getting a sweet treat too. This morning, I came in and was greeted by Hero. He is so sweet, friendly, and his bubbly energy totally made my morning! He also gave me a sample of their coffee cake which I had never had before and was blown away!!! I had to get one. Small little bakery which was a wonderful find! Everything here was gluten-free, which was great as someone with celiac. They occasionally have some free samples to try for some of their baked goods, and the service is really friendly at the counter. I really enjoyed their red velvet donut! It was soft, moist, well-balance in flavor, with a delicious frosting. My only regret is not buying more before leaving San Diego!

I, a former San Diego resident who had been visiting San Diego, wanted a gluten free (non lemon non lime) donut for breakfast. My intolerance to gluten and the predominantly gluten donut bakeries and in stores, donuts are a rare treat. My blessing was chocolately donut from heaven, a divine moment. Everything is gluten free and vegan. I would have bought 2 or 3 more donuts, the strawberry longjohn and the tres leches cake if my mom was not with me. The food was perfect and the service was flawless. Everything is made fresh daily and the shop is clean and quiet. The vibe is welcoming.

Pop tart was sooooooo tough you could hardly chew it. Gluten free items are typically more dense than traditional baked goods, but this is beyond that. Skip this item... I just tossed $7 in the garbage. Cinnamon roll is MEGA HUGE. Very doughy in the center. There's an abundant amount of glaze on the bottom of the roll, so it's oozing with sugary, gooey sweetness on the bottom. At first I didn't think there was enough frosting, but there's plenty after I realized how sticky the bottom of the roll is. Unfortunately it is a whopping $14! I will say it's good, but not worth that kind of a price tag. Top notch customer service, but that doesn't make up for the hefty prices and poor quality in some of the items. Vinnie, Appreciate the quick reply to my second review. I didn't intend for 3 stars to be negative, but true to the items I ordered today. For what it's worth, my previous visit review was 5 stars. I just tried to call the store, but told you aren't in. I welcome the opportunity to speak when you're available. You are correct, I did order extra frosting (and offered to pay for it), but it was not in my bag when I got to my destination. I do hope you reach out. Until then, don't stop baking the goods ... You have a great following and dedicated customers who'd be crushed to see you push them to standard bakeries.

We stopped by after eating dinner next door and wasn't sure what we were expecting. We got the sugar cookie and a spiced tiramisu and both tasted like straight protein powder. Not our favorite. The service was really great though and maybe we tried the wrong things but I don't think pastries should be tasting like a protein bar.

I ordered delivery from Uber Eats since I was traveling and didn't have a car. I brought three donuts back to Oregon for my celiac husband. We have lower standards for items that are both GF & vegan since we understand it poses some challenges, but these donuts nailed it! It's so nice to have GF donuts that aren't baked! I would come back to San Diego for these, and that's saying a lot for someone who lives in arguably the best city for gluten free & vegan options!

Amazing selection of GF goodies. As someone who is gluten and predominantly dairy free it is hard to find a place that meets all of my dietary restrictions. However, this place made me feel like I had none at all! I highly recommend anything on the menu, although all I tasted was the breakfast bagel, funfetti doughnut, funfetti cupcake, and the cinnamon roll bread pudding. The service was great and very quick. It was not very busy. There are a few chairs and a table to sit at to enjoy your goodies. They also offer samples, which was such a delight to be able to try other things! I highly recommend checking this place out. They do not skimp out on anything and the treats are all very moist and delicious!!

Took a nice morning walk to grab a coffee and a donut. The coffee was delicious and the donut was excellent. The donut was almost a little more like a Bundy cake but so moist and the icing was excellent. I was eye balling the savory breakfasts too but I'll be back soon!

Hero helped us this morning and he was so kind. The cute shop esthetics and nice customer service made the trip wonderful. The icing on the cake was the amazing desserts. Definitely going back.

It's okay, spent over $60 here including my friend's order. Good selections, but the expresso is not good quality and the baked goods have such a bad aftertaste, not sure what they are using for sugar alternative, but whatever they are using is just not it. I had the Biscoff latte 7/10, Ube Lemon doughnut 5/10, only because of the aftertaste, Turtle doughnut 8/10 same bad aftertaste, texture of baked goods is there, but that aftertaste just makes you not want to revisit. These are just a few things we ordered, we also ordered edible cookie dough and carrot cake, haven't eaten just yet!

Please stop by and get the best gluten free vegan dessert in San Diego. Everything is amazing. The people who work there care about the products they put out and are extremely friendly. Come support a great business. Tell them Eddie sent you lol they don't know me but I think it would be funny. God bless!!

Quick stop for a coffee. Cute little store with a nice employee. All their items are vegan and gluten free and smelled amazing inside. I got the OG which was an horchata latte with oat milk and a good serving of cinnamon on it.

I freakin love this place I literally need to come out every time I'm in town, the food is delicious and the service is always amazing. Rob always makes me feel like a regular and knows how to get me to spend more money and food he wants to fatten me up I swear. Don't know what's sweeter him or the goodies he wants me to try. Anyways can't recommend this place enough

I was pretty disappointed. We had this delivered to us while on vacation. The textures of the strawberry cake and the bagel were not great. We were missing an item that was ordered. The quiche was OK, but definitely not worth the price. The lattes tasted powdery/gritty, like they added powder instead of syrup.

Friendly and attentive staff. Delicious baked goods (coffee cake and banana nut bread both were moist and full of flavor). Space was a bit cramped but seating outside is a plus.

Just stumbled upon this joint after being diagnosed with celiac, it's been so hard to find any baked goods (my one true love in life) that are gluten free- and don't taste like sandpaper. Robb was so sweet & helpful, taking the time to answer any of my silly questions. Felt so safe & comfy in this place, definitely my new hyperfixation bakery

I highly recommend Phattie's! I have been gluten free for 25 years and have spent a small fortune trying any and all things gluten free. We had the s'mores donuts and tiramisu. So so delicious And the staff was wonderful and generous with samples which worked because we bought both things we tried. We will be back!

I absolutely loved my experience at Phatties Bake Shop! The matcha was so smooth and flavorful, and their bagels were fresh and delicious. I also really appreciated the gluten-free options. they had plenty to choose from without sacrificing taste or quality. Rob was so helpful and kind, which made the visit even better. It's always nice when the staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I'll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to friends. A perfect neighborhood gem!

My boyfriend bought me a box of gf pastries for Valentine's Day. So beautiful and a great variety! I also went to the store after. Cute store but the display case is uninviting. The biggest problem is that there is too much salt in everything! I would have loved everything - the style, the variety, the texture, even the flavors, without the salty flavor. Please let me know if this changes and I will be back.
