The cheesesteak sandwich is an icon and a personal top 5 for my personal sandwich list. I love visiting any cheesesteak shop I can find. I was delighted to discover California has a small cheesesteak franchise called Philly's Best Cheesesteaks. One of their newest locations is in the Melrose shopping area near Hollywood. The menu is full of options. But I had to start my journey with Philly's Best with their 'best'. It is a classic cheesesteak with sauteed mushrooms and sweet peppers added in. It was a very tasty sandwich. The bread, which comes from the east coast, was soft, fresh and the perfect vehicle for the flat top grilled goodness. I loved that they put the cheese on the bottom so none of it drips out. The meat, veggies, and cheese were all fresh, perfectly cooked, seasoned well and overflowing out of the top of the bun. The sandwich was quite big and was all I needed to feel full and very satisfied. I haven't visited Philadelphia in person but the decor was focused on helping to create the ambience. I really enjoyed the wall mural inside the store. The cashier was friendly and helpful. He explained what a pork roll was and now I want to return to try it. The kitchen was fast with my order and the sandwich came to me hot off the grill. I parked on the street. I don't think they had a parking lot. It is on Melrose Blvd and it can be tricky to park so be aware of that. After this sandwich, I have already ventured out to another of their locations. The quality and service was excellent at both. If you run across a Philly's Best and are craving a cheesesteak, you will not be disappointed! They are excellent!

I'm from Jersey. Half of my fam is from Philly. I've had Philly cheesesteaks in LA but this is by far the best I've had. If it ain't on an Amoroso roll, it ain't real! I got 1 of ALL the snacks, the buffalo cheesesteak, cheese fries, and a drink plus tip for under $50. FIRE!!! They also have Tastykake & Herr's snacks! C'mon man. They have pork roll too. I almost wish I still ate pork lol. They coincidentally happen to be located across the street from a water ice spot (Happy Ice), which is owned by a Philly native. I chopped it up with the owner, Bob, for a bit about different cities in the tri-state area where we grew up. Great food & fantastic customer service. Thank you guys!

Came down to give it a try for the first time. I was very happy with my order. The big guy working was super helpful. He made me an awesome cheesesteak! It was one of the best ice had. I'll definitely be back to try another or the same one. Thanks buddy.

I went to this place today and I should have known that they didn't know what a hoogie is.I'm from philadelphia. When you go into a real hoagie place, you can smell it. Maybe their cheesesteaks are good, but not hoagies. They just don't get it. I wish the owner was there, so I can tell him about hoagies. They don't understand the real thing.

Ordered via Uber Eats to my WeHo apartment and this was absolutely delicious. If you are graving for a cheesesteak then this place won’t disappoint you.

The worst Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had! I didn't even eat it! Took 2 bites and threw out! Tasted like the grill was dirty! Worst taste left in my mouth! I could literally puke! I should have went to Fat Sals! Wasted $16.00

Great spot on Melrose that doesn't disappoint. A friend from Philly agrees that it's good and they even have chips and desserts from that area as well. Once you order, it's pretty quick to receive your food and you can watch them grilling everything up. Their complimentary pickles and hot peppers (really nice heat) are a must.

The staff was very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I ordered Philly steak wit wiz and onions. Exactly the same way I order my Philly's in Philadelphia. The sandwich is delicious. A few pieces of advice; add the wiz more . Season the meat abit more. Otherwise very good. Definitely will be back.

The BEST chicken cheesesteak around!!! This amazing sandwich is huge! Perfect place to come in, eat, listen to music and have my laptop to work on! Hits the spot every time!

I just saw this place pop up on melrose and of course had to try it. Boo's has always been my favorite Philly in this city and tbh the bread still can't be beat. Philly's best was super hot, tasty even without getting the cheese whiz and made to order but still came out within 7-8 minutes. I got spicy peppers on one, one originally with red peppers and some cheese whiz fries and a couple hanks creams sodas (one orange). I can't ever knock a Philly till I try it. Glad it closer to me than Boo's is but I think I'd rather still go out of my way. I'd give this spot a solid 7.4

I always think I'm going to try something different when I get a cheesesteak, but I don't. So a Philly's Best over the Classic it is. I just love the sauteed mushrooms and peppers. I do add provolone, which has been known to cause family break-ups in Philadelphia. Add a Birch Beer and you have a gastronomic delight. Yes, it is heavy. Yes, you could share (but why). Yes, regret eating the whole thing. Yes, I will be back (shame face). Parking is hard to find, and metered. You will also most likely get a contact high from all the pedestrians, if you sit outside.

As a girly who LOVES Philly cheesesteak, I'm so glad that Philly's Best opened closer to me! The owners and employees are literally the sweetest, and I love how they're so accommodating and have the option of customizing/combining cheesesteak flavors if you ask. We ordered the classic cheesesteak (which is my favorite, and definitely a solid and safe option), as well as the pizza cheesesteak, which contains pepperoni and a generous helping of pizza sauce (although it's a little sweet/not that flavorful in my opinion). The fries and onion rings were also perfectly prepared, and a must-get on the side. If you're in the Melrose area, definitely stop by and check them out for a hearty meal!

What a great spot! Not only is the food incredible but so is the service and the owners are incredibly welcoming and lovely. Authentic cheesesteaks with the bread and fixings flown in from Philly. The onions rings are also absolutely insanely delicious. I love the classic cheesesteak and the buffalo chicken. The cold cut hoagies are great too. Everything is super fresh. You can even get a salad bowl with steak or chicken for a healthier option. As someone from back east who has been trying to find a solid steak in the area- this is the best around!

This was so amazing!! I love it, was so fresh and juicy. This honestly surprised me, Alex and Miguel hooked it up thank you guys it was 5 star service. If you thinking about coming it is a must try!!!

Amazing. Super friendly staff (from Philly, so they know their craft!) and amazing sandwiches and sides. I ordered the Philly's Best cheesesteak and my mind was blown. They have a huge range of different cheesesteak styles like buffalo, bbq chicken, and even a pizza one! Love the Philly themed vibes of the store and would 10/10 go again! P.S. order the onion rings, and thank me later

Y'all, these Philly cheesesteaks are so good. Perfect ratio of steak and cheese. Make sure you add peppers, I forgot to because I thought they came with it so that's the only reason why it's missing a star. I also added raw onions. I will be back, I'm curious to try the pepperoni cheesesteak.

The Service is amazing. You probably meet Alex and Miguel. They are phenomenal people and amazing workers. They definitely need to be given a raise because they put so much care into their craft. I ordered a Philly original cheesesteak and the flavors were amazing. The place is a bit intimate but it allows for guest to makes friends easily!

Still putting out one of the most consistent cheesesteaks in LA. Keep it up! I'm a purest. Always get the classic with onions and white American. The interior is feeling a little run down and sticky though.

This food is top-tier. Miguel and Alex really chef-ed it up for us and I believe they deserve a raise for the food they're putting out. if anyone is craving Philly food this is the place.

Absolutely amazing sandwich and service! This is the real deal when it comes to cheesesteaks. On top of a great sandwich that is reasonably priced, they even serve Yuengling beer and other items that's hard to find out of PA!

I am baffled by the great reviews. My sandwich was all one color. It looked & tasted like everything had been boiled together & thrown on a roll. To their credit, the bread & onion rings were great.

Wow this place is gross. The cook isn't using gloves. The food quality is subpar. Immediately felt sick after eating it. Definitely avoid.

Bad experience here. Not the food, which was pretty good, but the service. Ordered at the counter, then ate in. Saw a homeless guy come in and ask the counter girl something, who dismissed him and he quietly walked away. I saw him harmlessly wandering outside, talking to himself. He seemed hungry, so before I left, I put in an extra order to go to give to him. But the counter girl had left the store just before, and the monolingual cook had to take the order, awkwardly. He cooked it, but then had no idea how to ring it up, and he had to call someone to help him and he still couldn't do it. He left the store briefly and then said "she's coming" while still fiddling with the cash register. Waited 10 minutes, finally she comes back, and immediately pays attention to an Uber pickup who had just walked in, when I had been standing there waiting. She then rang me up with no explanation, so I asked her for one, and she mentioned a "machine" malfunctioning, which didn't make sense. Then no apology whatsoever. If Little Miss would pay more attention to her customer service skills rather than cultivating her very studied non-binary appearance, maybe she would get further. And if the owners are too cheap to hire enough staff for the volume of business, maybe this will get their attention and they'll learn to either hire better staff or cross-train the ones they have better. I left and gave the homeless guy around the corner the sandwich and drink, but he said he'd rather have a cigarette. I gave him that, too. Service with a smile, Melrose, service with a smile.

Love Philly's Best. Been waiting for a location near me. Unfortunately this location is never open on time (I often wait 20-30 minutes past the opening time to be able to order. Homeless sit outside and don't make it a pleasant experience.

This place is epic super good food super fresh my partner and I enjoyed it a lot... and the customer service was on point! Great and easy location as well.

The owner is so kind! Being from Rittenhouse square myself, these jawns are as good as they are back home! Would definitely recommend if you're from Philly looking for the closest thing to pats or genos.
