Instead of taco Tuesday we decided to go for something different... Italian!
We didn't need any reservations for our 5:30pm dinner. We were seated right away. Our server was friendly and gave us time to decide what we wanted. I did remark at one point during our meal, that service was leisurely, probably because they wanted to give us time to relax and enjoy our evening out, and not disturb us, and give us time to contemplate why our service was so leisurely?
We had mussels with marinara sauce, complimentary dinner rolls, chicken Marsala and butternut squash ravioli.
Our favorite for the evening.... dinner rolls! Warm, toasty, balls of crusty, chewy bread. The mussels were in a chunky tomato and onion sauce, not too fancy. Though we did eat all the mussels, it won't be my go to appetizer.
I love ravioli and I wanted something for the season, so butternut squash would be perfect! I wasn't 100% sure of the cinnamon, but the description called for "a touch" of cinnamon, so I gave it a try. The ravioli was mixed with small pieces of chicken and pancetta in a frangelico cream sauce. In retrospect, I would have preferred a savory vs sweet dish. Both the chicken and pancetta was overwhelmed by the cream sauce with more than a hint of cinnamon and didn't have much flavor. The raviolis were either too thick or too el dente for my liking and the filling bland. All the flavoring went into the too thick cream sauce better suited for dessert.
The Marsala had more of a delicate flavor to it, not very robust. The chicken and mushrooms cooked nicely, but again not a lot of flavor.
I did consider dessert, but at the rate our dinner was going, I didn't want to disappoint myself.
Would we want to go back? Probably not, considering I'm donating my leftovers.
