We've been to Piccola Osteria multiple times, as well as Piccola Trattoria and the family's original local eatery, Caruso's (a hole in the wall Italian joint that we miss so much) many times, and we love the food that comes from their kitchens. Not gonna lie, this is our go to for celebration dinners...we love it. We sit on the patios (take note previous reviewer...no TVs on the patio) and enjoy the evening air while eating our meal.
But this week was different... We didn't just go for a delicious meal, we went because the restaurant is on the list for SCV restaurant week, a new inclusive dining program in Santa Clarita, put on by local charity, feedSCV, that honors our locally, owned and locally run non-chain restaurants. And all of the restaurants were invited to create their own special menu just for the week and diners are encouraged to use those menus to try new things.
My dining party did just that none of us had a main that we'd ever had before and were rewarded for trying something new.
My wife had her favorite appetizer, Buratta E prosciutto, while I had the Insalata Osteria. The salad was super savory and filled with delicious meats and cheeses, as well as perfectly prepared Romain and a delicious vinaigrette. I was jealous of her appetizer, though, because that prosciutto looked so good. For mains, she had the gnocchi and marinara with a bed of mozzarella, baked to golden deliciousness, while I had one of their signature dishes and strangely enough, something I've never had before, the rigatoni salsiccia, which is rigatoni, mushrooms and ground sausage in a Parmesan sauce with truffle shavings. It was magnificent and not surprising. It is one of their most popular dishes.
For dessert my wife had the tiramisu and I had the cannoli. Both super filling and delicious. It was a perfect way to end that meal. The dinner was part of a fixed price meal, appetizer, main and dessert for $55. It was worth every penny, and more.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that we had several other diners at the table with us... Our friend Michael enjoyed the hanger steak, which was smothered in and herbaceous, Italian salsa and the panna cotta for dessert. He also had the prosciutto appetizer. And Ruby, my mother-in-law, ordered off special menu and had a delicious blended vegetable soup, and Spinach, ravioli.
I will always go back... And now I am very much looking forward to trying other restaurants that are taking part in SCV restaurant week.
