Pick A Bagel

Fast paced, busy bagel shop. Used to always come here when I worked at the hospital but since then prices have become ridiculous and the cashiers have become more rude. $28 for lox & chive cream cheese on a flat bagel with OJ?! Bagel was over salted and not even as enjoyable to rationalize that outrageous cost. Would not come back, theres plenty of good bagel spots in NYC. Disappointed.

We stopped by Pick A Bagel in New York on our way to the Met, and I have to say, it was easily one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. We ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese, and it was absolutely perfect. The bagel had a crunchy outer layer and a soft, chewy inside, and the cream cheese was incredibly fluffy and delicious. Everything about it was just spot on. I’m giving it a straight-up 5 stars. If you’re looking for an amazing bagel experience in NYC, this is the place to go!

Went in to get a quick bite for lunch with my two hungry, hot and tired kids. Service was great and fast. We had soup and sandwiches and everything was delicious. I’d drive back from Toronto to get the chicken noodle soup again.. was some of the best soup I’ve ever had! We will pop in again on our next visit.

Ordered online for pick up still had to wait for my order, came to work and found out they gave me wrong danish and bagel just horrible. On top of that not sure how tip got charged 🤦🏻‍♂️ ordered 1 chocolate danish n 1 cheese danish, chocolate one was replaced by cream bun which I never ordered. Ordered 1 everything bagel n 1 egg everything bagel but both bagels were everything

I had the “Greek omelette” platter that just consisted of tomatoes & feta, over a bed of potatoes (which were good). Had I known I would’ve asked them to add some spinach and olives maybe. Doesn’t include any toast but was approx $15. I might give them one more try to try the actual bagels

It tasted good, but I read that the staff was kind, but the female employee was a little annoyed because I couldn't speak English.

They make up random prices but I decided to take it as a fun joke, like we’re friends and you’re kidding with me even though she wasn’t. She just wanted to be somewhere else doing anything else, anywhere but here. Daydreaming. I respect that fully and If you saw me crying after you said $12 - non negotiable for a simple pumpernickel bagel with jelly, it wasn’t cause I’m broke- it was because I also want to be somewhere else doing anything but this

As a basic bagel spot this place is decent. Not a huge variety of cream cheeses but the bagels are fresh and tasty. It looks like they have some nice desserts as well which I might try on a future visit.

There are better bagel spots in manhattan. This location is located by a hospital and subway stations which is good. It gets hectic inside sometimes and the bagels are ver sub par. Nothing special. The workers are not the nicest sometimes here too. They do have many different kinds of bagels though. I try to avoid this spot but If I am in the area and hungry I will stop by.

If you're looking for the classic NY bagel this is great! Recommended to us by our concierge and we enjoyed it. The service here was extremely friendly and quick. There were plenty of places to sit on a Friday morning. Portions were reasonable for the price. Enjoy!

I've been frequenting several pick a bagels. Here I didn't realize, but depending on who you get, they really skimp on the CC containers and barely fill them as ordered. Really disappointing. I see why everyone goes on about how rude/careless the cashier is. I will only go here last resort, and wait for not those people. Got a chocolate chip muffin. Really sweet, and though there are many chips, oddly it is so sweet you cannot even tell it's chocolate. I actually thought only the top was chocolate. So actually wondering if they are actually chocolate chips.

Ordered a bakers dozen of mixed bagels yesterday and 8 were the same with minimal mix of the rest. The brunette cashier at the front didn't utter a thank you or please the whole time. Basic manners would be nice.

Pricey but if you are craving some bagels, I recommend. I was starving and while I waited by Lenox hospital I passed by and decided to get one. Everything bagel with everything cream cheese and the butter toasted bagel Definitely recommend but it is on the pricey side hit what isn't these days.

Bagel was good, fresh, and chewy. Everything you'd want in a decent B.E.C sandwich. Could've used more cheese and salt but it's hard to get a simple sandwich like this to be made good. Good, hot, fast service.

I'd give an ok. A little above average. Arrived at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Small line that moved quickly. Got my everything with cream cheese and coffee. Coffee lukewarm. Bagel fresh and good. Not delicious. Well seasoned with a nice chewability. Place is clean with stools along a window counter to sit at. Staff a little noisy, talking over the music to each other, but still giving decent service. If I worked at Lenox Hill Hospital across the street or lived within a 3 block radius this would be my bagel place. Otherwise I'd be going somewhere else. See my video review on IG @bagelmavennyc

So far only tried their regular coffee & blueberry muffin . And after first time I stopped going to Starbucks & dunking donuts for coffee . And the blueberry muffin I had been getting, one of the best I had. Infect I m so much in love with it that scared to try a different flavor the muffin is huge too, I can't finish the whole thing at once so at lunch time when I get hungry I finished the rest. They are always packed, but service is very fast . So far didn't have any incidents to make my day worse ! Thank you soo much for your service & Ofcource yummy food !

The bagels are good but the service is terrible. I was there yesterday and the people behind the counter were rude. The is no greeting just a "what do you want", like if they are doing you a favor. There was another customer there who stood up to them and told them they had a bad attitude (which was received with more bad attitude). Really need to improve that customer service.

I don't know why I keep going back. The bagel itself is fine but they have NEVER gotten my order correct in the last 5 years. "Veggie cream cheese, veggie cream cheese" I repeat. "Yes, veggie cream cheese" they confirm. I open it up. Plain cream cheese every single time. Infuriating. And what's worse, they charge me a considerable amount extra for it. I don't understand why they cannot get it right. You're a bagel place!Super annoying.

I ordered the chicken caprice sandwich. It is supposed to have grilled chicken, arugula, plum tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese. Picture shows a delicious looking sandwich (attached). What I received was soggy panini bread with shredded cold cut chicken, soggy spinach, mozzarella and some American cheese on it. I called and they barely cared, did not apologize, nothing. Said he would refund me and hung up. Still haven't received refund.

Pick A Bagel is a decent spot to snag a bagel on the way to the 6 train. The corner location makes for an easy stop over on your morning commute. Though the line can be a bit harrowing on a weekday morning, it moves at a pretty solid clip, depending on your order. If you keep it simple (like I do) with a bagel and shmear, you can get in and out in 5 minutes at 9:45 AM or so. The bagels are good, soft with the right amount of chew. I appreciate that Pick A Bagel doesn't overdo the cream cheese. They trust the bagel. And their selection of bagel and cream cheese varieties is respectable. I'm a big fan of the flats, which, unfortunately, are not always available at your standard bagel joint. All in all, for convenience, selection, quality, speed, and price, Pick A Bagel is an above average weekday bagel spot. It's definitely worthy of an added stop on your commute.

Terrible service, mediocre bagels. We ordered online and arrived to pick up 10 AFTER the stated pick up. No line. Not ready. I asked the cashier if I should get in line (there was none) and re-order and was told no, wait outside. Waited outside 10 minutes and came back, still not ready. Finally went to the counter and asked and the guy threw the order together and tossed the bag at us. Um, ok? We ordered one plain and three everything bagel sandwiches. There were very few seeds on the everything bagel and not as heavy handed on the shmear, fine by us but then maybe don't charge $8 for a mediocre bagel and a teensy bit of cream cheese? Meh. Save your $ and go to Ess-a-bagel.

Got a yummy ham, egg and cheese bagel sandwich and a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese and an iced coffee. This was a solid early breakfast and late afternoon snack while enduring some long meetings in the city. The bagels were really good! The coffee was strong. This seems like a popular spot. I can imagine the line is pretty long at other times since it's also right at the 6 train exit at 78th/Lexington. Definitely tasty!

I placed an order for delivery using Seamless, and it was never delivered. When I called back to inquire about my order, the manager on the phone berated me, told me I had an attitude, told me I gave the wrong address ( I did not ) and then suggested I didn't know who I was talking to, as though she was incredibly important. Furthermore, Seamless was unable to contact the restaurant and ended up refunding me anyway. For what I would think is an absolutely mediocre bagel. It's definitely not worth your time or your money.

Not the BEST bagel in NY but they do a solid job for a quick fix. What makes a bagel good to me - soft chewy interior with an exterior that doesn't put up a fight when you pull a bite off of it. I would say this bagel fought me for 30% of my bites which is kind of high. Interior was chewy enough, the harder exterior just made it such that it took longer to chew each bite. The everything bagel was well seasoned but I've had more thoroughly seasoned ones BUT I will say I like that they use large chunks of salt here which I really enjoyed. The cream cheese was good, could have used more scallions. Discount for workers at Lenox Hill Hospital! I'll probably go back just for proximity

I was waiting for my food to be prepared and witnessed an interaction between a customer and the 2 ladies working the cash register, that quite frankly was uncalled for. A customer had paid for his food and accidentally left his food on the counter and left the store. The cashier saw it, opened the bag, and brought it to the guys who prepare food and asked who's it was. No one could figure it who the order belonged to. Then, the customer returned asking the cashier about his forgotten bag. The 2 ladies played dumb and said they didn't see any bags left behind. The customer said it was left on the counter just for a few minutes, how could they not notice it? The cashier kept saying they aren't responsible for any bags left behind. They bantered back and forth, I was about to chime in. But then the guy who was preparing food grabs the bag that was given to him by the cashier and hands it to him. The customer then left. This is how the cashiers treat their customers. What a class act. They knew they had the customers food and they played dumb. I will never return to this place again.

Bad service. The dark hair waitress at the cashier was very rude. Talked to me in a very impolite and unprofessional way.

Good for a quick grab. Just the right amount of sweet in their strawberry spread. My teeth were fighting for their life though when chewing off the bagel. Coffee was surprisingly better than expected. For under $10, it was a nice snack/meal

Is a bagel just a bagel? Depends on how it's treated and what you put on it. The taste of the everything bagel was very nice, not too much salt or garlic, yet I asked for it to be toasted and there was no evidence of toasting other than to make the bagel warm. You can see that there's a nice amount of cheese, and t the lox cream cheese had ample pieces of fish, but it really wasn't the bagel I wanted as I asked for it to be more than lightly toasted. The man preparing the bagel was friendly, but the woman at the cashier couldn't even crack a smile.

It's there and they have a selection. The bagels and the toppings are very mid for New York. I felt it was overpriced for what it is but I usually get my bagels from really good places. If you're desperate it's totally fine

No stars. I walked in 8am to get breakfast - no one was on line so I asked where to order and cashier, tall brunette, said to stand right where I was and they would help me when free. Next thing 8 people walk in and I'm now on the end of the line and they take the first person. When I asked what's going on, the same cashier said "are you saying it's my fault?" I reply - "No .... What??? The cashier says " what's with the face"? Apparently she doesn't like white senior citizens. Shame on her. Yeah, keep your stinking bagel and I'll keep my face and money. So uncalled for. I'd fire her in a nanosecond. Can't we just be nice to people.

Extremely disappointed in my experience today. I've been here many times before and always had a good experience. First, they forgot to toast my bagel which on its own, fine. Second I went to eat my bagel and a massive long black hair mixed in. Had to throw it away before even eating it. Disgusting. Do better.

Except that this location is closing, great bagel shop! Order through toasting to pickup took barely any time and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the bar looking out the window to the street on a fine, NYC Monday morning. After my travel buddies woke up, they joined me and had some great refueling (100-mile Gran Fondo bicycle race the day before) breakfast sandwiches.

Pick somewhere else! I'd take some time and walk a few extra blocks to TAL. Surprised by pricing we were hoping these would outdo our regular spot, however the texture seemed like they came out of a grocery store bag, cream cheese was sparse and flavor lacking. My husband commented as a "waste of calories". Better places: TAL Bagel shop

Ripoff and Poor Quality. Muffins cost $4.95 and a cup of tea $2.95. I ordered a corn muffin, it was tasteless, yellow dry dough. It had no flavor of corn, or anything. The cup of tea with a splash of soy milk was plain, inexpensive regular black tea. The total came to $8.40 -- an unsatisfying waste of money.

The food is good and there are multiple options for bagels. The service is good, and the ambiance is good. The main reason why I took off a star is because of how expensive things are, specifically for the BEC. The other day, the BEC had no bacon and the other few times I've gotten it to give it a chance haven't had much bacon either. Overall, pretty good.

It is the perfect place for a quick, quality bagel sandwich in the morning! The service is very fast! An employee takes your order at the counter and turns around and makes your bagel sandwich. Very fresh! I would totally recommend !!!

Lousy service, underwhelming food. I keep trying because they're everywhere and seem popular, but not for me.

I have passed this place so many times and was always curious to try it, but wasn't sure how it would be based upon the reviews. But I was so pleasantly surprised! The bagel was so fresh tasting and had the perfect consistency of crunch on the outside while soft on the inside. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star review is because the strawberry cream cheese was super sweet tasting. I was hoping it would have more of a genuine strawberry taste. But I would definitely come back and try a different cream cheese next time!

Every time I come to NY Pick a Bagel never fails! Perfect texture...and they have many cream cheese options. I always get the turkey bacon, egg and cheese bagel. The eggs are cooked perfectly. The people are nice inside. If you want bagels ( whether you're from NY or not) this should be your spot.

While I don't eat a ton of bagels if I do this is my go to for a great bagel, and no not all bagel places know how to make a good NYC style bagel. They offer a great selection and they have a selection of cream cheeses to choose from. They had vegetable cream cheese which was made correctly, and their regular cream cheese was also good and fresh. I appreciate the package specials they offer with your choice of cream cheese online. I do wish they had gluten free bagels (I know that's asking a lot) and the cream cheese was a little bigger.

The bagel is really good but prices are insanely expensive! Came here one morning for a bagel, there was a long line of people waiting but the line moved pretty fast. Got the everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. It was warm and had a thick layer of cream cheese but the amount of lox is thin. The bagel was amazing, for $15 I'd expect a bit more lox. Staff all had facial seizures and do not know how to smile. A bit too pricey for what you get.

Been here four times, yet they completely messed up the order three times. The employees are consistently rude and the bagels are mid.

While the bagels seemed fresh on the occasions I went and the coffee was ok, they run a scheme in this shop. One day you pay a certain price and on the next day you order the same exact thing but the price is not the same. The people in the front don't even give receipts. If you want to pay a different price every time you buy something here, I'd give the quality of food 3 stars. Lack of honesty and greed makes their business awful.

$$ is more like it for the cost. I've been thinking of going in, you got it, for years. And today I was presented with the opportunity. I was going to peek in to see if it was super crowded like it typically is when a nice young man opened the door for me. The next thing I knew I was mesmerized by the huge Muffins. I'm still looking for the Oat Bran Muffins I miss since Hot and Crusty Closed. The place has plenty of counter help. I was given a menu by the nice girl that greeted me when I walked in. I perused the layout by taking it to the back where I stood to check out not only the menu but the whole seating and ordering situation. I have to say everything looks delicious. I spotted a bunch of huge Pumpernickel Bagels. Not today. I had Oat Bran on my brain. After I realized I could grab a seat at the counter I went back to the front where the muffins were. I told the original assistant I would like to try the Oat Bran and a small black coffee. She looked like she was indecisive about which muffin was Oat Bran. There was a little sign with the name by the one she grabbed. I guess I'll find out in the morning when I test my blood sugar! It was pretty sweet and not dense the way I like my Bran Muffin. They cost $3.95. That's more than I usually pay. It's a huge Muffin and worth the price. I'm definitely full. The small coffee was very tasty and can't be beat for $2.25. With tax I spent $7.02 for another unhealthy sweet meal! I saw an employee clean off the counter seat before I sat down. He was picking up garbage but not wiping it down. At least I had the paper bag under my Muffin. The space is very cramped. People are in line behind you some coming in the door and some waiting to pay. I heard coughing and sneezing. Too close for my eating pleasure. One star off for comfort while I eat. I checked in and now I have 15% off my next visit. I'm definitely going back for a bagel. I've heard the bagels are very good. They must be since the place is always packed. I plan to return on a weekday for what I call lunch at 10-10:30am when most people are at work. I did see several older people this Sunday morning. Reading the paper at the window seat appears to be the trend. The hospital is close and I believe a lot of customers are from this neighborhood. I doubt I would visit regularly. Uptown is not as pricey in my opinion. The subway is right outside the door. If you're in this neighborhood I recommend.

I recently moved back to Manhattan and was so excited to go back to this bagel spot .. unfortunately they are beyond rude . The bagel with butter was not toasted , butter tasted rancid . Health department should take a look into this place .. then my parter's sandwich was a joke .. the eggs was faker than a McDonalds egg . There was barely 2 pieces of bacon and bagel was old and stale... The older gentleman who was not wear gloves and cooking and handling my order . Cut me off before I could place my 2 other orders and then complained and also almost refused to take my order when I spoke up to complete my order for my three orders it was 23$ . What a rip off . Do not go here !!!

Came in during a busy morning and the staff got my order wrong. I paid for an onion toasted bagel with scallion cream cheese but got plain cream cheese instead. I am unsure if it was a hit or miss, but I ate it right away inside the store and it was barely warm/chewy/hard. They do give a good amount of cream cheese. I think it was because they were extremely busy in the morning, but it was not a great experience. I've had better bagels elsewhere. If I were to give this place another try, it'll be outside of their busy window.

It's not good. I went here cause I knew it was here and I needed to get something before getting on the subway. Its just a lazy bagel for people in a rush. The everything bagel, once again, is whatever they have in excess, today being the sesame bagel. Last time it was poppy. Its over priced and you should go somewhere else.

(This review applies to a Too Good to Go order.) I received a massive bag of bagels, croissants, and pastries for $8.33. Stated value of $25 was likely accurate. Store was closing early, so everything was still fresh. Quality was high. Friendly, efficient service too.

One of my favorite bagel places in the city. Bagel and cream cheese is great! The cookies are huge and tasty. Rainbow cookies are great too get with anything.

This bagel spot is conveniently located by the 6 train on 77th and Lexington and is always packed with locals and tourists - which is great because then everything must be fresh right? I came here with my bf and we both ordered the bagel with lox and scallion cream cheese and two coffees - one hot and one iced. There is a assembly line (as one would expected from a bagel shop) You walk in and have to go all the way down to the right to have them make your sandwich and then move down to get to the register to pay with the cashier. We get to the cashier and told them what we ordered and also asked for 2 coffees. The cashier looked at me like I was from Mars and tells me that I have to tell the guy that was making my sandwich that I wanted the coffees because apparently he was the only one that could pour some coffee in a cup for me. As you can imagine, the place was super busy and the guy who had help us had other sandwiches to make. We had to wait for him to make all other sandwiches to ask him to pour coffee in a cup for us so that the cashier could finally ring us up. I understand there was an assembly line, but how would one know to order coffee in the beginning with the person assembling your sandwich? Usually it's at the register - I wouldn't make such a big fuss about it but the cashier was super rude about it and was not helpful at all. I also understand that it's not the cashiers fault because there are rules to follow, but it seems so odd that coffee was right behind her and she isn't able to pour coffee in a cup which would literally take less than 5 seconds. It was the most confusing experience I had in a bagel shop. Besides that - the bagel was pretty good. I did enjoyed the scallion cream cheese and lox but for about $15.50+ a bagel...the price seems a bit steep. I didn't find anything to be extraordinary for this bagel to be more than $15 other than its location in the upper east side. For $15, I made sure I was mentally and physically savoring each bite. Would I come here again? Probably not, I can think of a couple bagel shops I'd rather give my money.

Pros: They have a good selection of bagels and cream cheeses to choose from; I especially like the egg everything bagels and the jalapeno cream cheese. The muffins are also good and again, quite a few to choose from. Coffee sometimes is burnt or left in the machine too long but when fresh it's enjoyable and strong tasting. Cons: Prices are really high for what you get. Always packed, especially on weekends, and the organization of the line/ordering process often leaves something to be desired. Lunch items/sandwiches are average at best - I only come in when I'm in the mood for a bagel and/or a muffin these days. Overall, good neighborhood spot for a quick bagel or egg sandwich on the weekend but wouldn't recommend it for lunch.

Got an everything bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. It was $15.50. Thought the taste was pretty good (4/5 for the taste). 3/5 overall given the price is a bit higher than other comparable bagels.

Ordered delivery. Absolutely horrendous. Greasy, soggy bagels. They did not follow the instructions. Worst of all, the cream cheese bagel had barely any cream cheese on it (see attached picture). Lack of cream cheese? I mean this is a NYC no no. This is also one of several times I have ordered from this Pick A Bagel, never satisfied.

This bagel with lox was really good, I thought the lox was perfect but a bit too much cream cheese for my taste. I will say, they misheard my order or missed what I said so I originally only got a bagel with cream cheese (even though I paid $15). I was meeting a friend in the park to eat but I went back on the way home, told them what happened and they remade me a bagel with lox. The ordering system is flawed in that you tell the cashier what you got, and the people preparing the sandwiches do not mark the outside of the sandwich (like at chipotle where they write V for vegetarian etc on the container). My suggestion is to check your order before you walk too far away. Delicious lox though, in a convenient location and quite fast.
