Best Pizza Restaurants in Asheville, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"With its spot surrounded by South Slope breweries, Pie Zaa figured out its crowd by designing a by-the-slice pizza place, serving brewers stopping in for a quick lunch and the late-night crowds. With just a couple of tables on the sidewalk and few seats inside, this is a quaint little spot to soak up all those IPAs. The pizzas here are massive circles of cracker-like New York-style crust covered in a whole lot of mozzarella and just a few potential toppings, including pepperoni, sausage, or the “garden” with onion, artichoke, red pepper, and mushrooms." - Eric Barton

The 8 Best Pizza Shops for a NY-Style Slice Outside New York | Bon Appétit

"Founded by a former trauma surgery consultant who missed late-night slices, this spot specializes in oversized 12-inch slices available late into the night, serving classic flavors like cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and a vegetable-forward “garden” pie. A key draw is value and convenience—a $6 slice is filling and served quickly—paired with a selection of dipping sauces including marinara, ranch, and a house “zip” (a creamy cherry-pepper and Parmesan dip). The operation is expanding with a second location in the works." - ByEmily Wilson

Google
I visited Asheville recently and stopped by PIE.ZAA Pizza what a great find! I ordered a pie and had no idea it was going to be that massive. Seriously, it’s huge, which makes it even more awesome. The pizza was really good perfectly cheesy with those crispy little pepperoni cups that pack so much flavor. The service was also fantastic super friendly. And I have to mention the humor first, the restroom sign that said, “Whatever just please wash your hands,” had me laughing. Then there was another sign listing “Things to Flush… Negative Opinions, Judgments, Attitude” and “Things NOT to Flush… Your Hopes & Dreams, Pizza, Unpaid Bills.” Little touches like these really made the experience memorable and fun. If you’re in Asheville and craving a giant, delicious pizza with great service, Pie.ZAA Pizza is a must visit!

I've eaten a lot of pizza in my life and this is quite possibly the best tasting pizza I've ever had. I wanted to eat more than one slice because of how good it was but the slices are so large I couldn't physically eat more than one. The zip sauce and the ranch dip we're both delicious, especially the zip sauce! The service was great and it was within walking distance to a lot of other great businesses/breweries and such in the downtown area. We watched a guy buy an entire pie and he had to put it in the trunk of his car. I'm sure wherever he showed up with that thing he was received with a round of applause and followed by a trail of drool.

Google
Amazing pizza. The Roni was perfect for a hangover. The Garden was very flavorful. The crust ends don’t need dipping sauce, even though sauces were offered.

Google
Awesome pizza! We stopped from visiting downtown and decided to get some pizza from Pie. Zaa. The biggest slices of pizza ever, 1 slice is equivalent to 2-3 regular slices of pizza. Thin crust with a great flavored sauce. Great prices, atmosphere, music and pizza! Centrally located to a lot of great things, great area.

Google
Grabbed the Miss Peaches slice and it was huge and worth the price. Tasty pizza and a great stop while checking out the nearby breweries.

Google
Pleasure experience in totality. The staff here is insanely sweet. The pizzas are perfect, PERFECT! The zip and marinara sauces made it a little better to have something with the crust, you don’t need it though. The bread was really soft on the inside and crispy in the outside. The mozzarella cheese used is high quality from Italy, I saw their package arrived. Parking may sometime be a problem. But it’s definately worth it. If you’re in Asheville please don’t forget to visit. Highly recommended.

Google
Pie.Zaa gets it!! Pizza is sometimes underrated because its pizza, but if done correctly...its just DELICIOUS. And to be quiet frank Pie. ZAA is DELICIOUS!! AND this place is a VIBE. The atmosphere is laid back really...no pressure. The pizza is crunchy, chewy, succulent sauce and cheese. We had the Roni and ZAApreme with a Pabst and Coors Light. Johnny and Wyatt was great at answering questions and Nick was friendly at pick up. Also went back to take a slice to go! A great night cap for my birthday!! Shout out to the crew your doing GREAT!! We'll be back!!!!

Google
If you’re looking for pizza there’s absolutely no better place than pie zaa. Visiting from NYC, I had my suspicions, but after multiple local recommendations I had to see what the hype was about.. did not disappoint. Joey, Marcus, and Devin are dawgs, and were great hosts. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is really great food y'all. It's take out or a quick scarf down in the petite dining area. By the slice is the way to go although a full (huge) pie is available. We had a slice of sausage (it has a name I can't recall but adjective + sausage) and a slice of Not your Mama's that rocked. Both rocked. Try this food. Kind and courteous service always wins the day, right?

Yelp
Great atmosphere and super friendly staff!!! Location is a bit odd and as a result parking became a bit of a challenge but the building itself is well maintained and aesthetically pleasing for all your photo needs! The pizza was amazing! Definitely try the zip sauce with the Garden slice it was so good! We also got the Not Your Mom's pizza slice it was very good!

Yelp
This is an interesting pizza spot. Music is bumping. It's open late. Staff are nice. Parking is in the street as limited. Pizza is a bit salty and if you don't eat pork skip it as they might have cross contamination. Slices are big fit on two plates. One slice will fill you up. Hope you enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Huge delicious slices of pizza! We heard great things about PIE.ZAA & decided to try for ourselves. Thankfully we were NOT disappointed. Thorough, informative & polite service! The dining area was clean with a variety of seating. I devoured a slice of Zippy-ki-yay which has THE BEST base sauce! I wish y'all bottled the zip sauce because I want it on everything! The balsamic drizzle on top of the steak peppers & onions was tantalizing! Jonathan enjoyed the variety of vegetables on his Garden slice. Wish we could take PIE.ZAA back to Florida with us. We definitely recommend!

Yelp
I could eat the Miss peaches slice over and over, with a dash of pepper flakes. These pizza slices are huge and come out fast. I was so glad they stayed open until midnight. The stay was welcoming, parking was easy enough and we took our pizza to go. Inside isn't that big and I had a movie to watch in my hotel room. I would definitely come back to try new slice toppings. I also tried one of their cookies. Although the cookie in the photo looked different from what I received it was delish.

Yelp
My favorite pizza in Charlotte! Love how it's a quick slice to go in the late night. Fast and efficient service with great food.
google avatar

Yelp
Got ahead of myself and ate the entire pepperoni slice before taking a picture. That and the sausage were both great, fairly basic slices, but that's how I like it.

Yelp
Definitely big slices! It was very good and tasty! Being from New York I know good pizza and I would definitely recommend this place!!

Yelp
This is now our pizza place in Asheville! The pizza is solid and the service is super fast and solid. These are huge slices and done up right.

Yelp
An unforgettable meal! The pizza was one of the best I've ever had, with crispy crust and fresh toppings. The steak and shrimp were bursting with flavor. The drinks paired perfectly with everything. The service was smooth and the vibe was fun. I'd love to come back again!

Yelp
Great spot for a locally owned & operated pizza joint. Skip the chains and support local. Support pie.zaa

Yelp
For a remote location really good. Slices are huge but that's ok for lunchtime. Drive to go there well worth it

Yelp
Good pizza, but I wish the pie maker would use plastic gloves putting on the toppings. JMHO

Yelp
Tried for the first time on recent visit to Asheville. Gargantuan slices. Solid pies.

Yelp
Five star pizza spot to go to when downtown. Large slices that act as two in my opinion. I have never been disappointed here and love the vibes. They provide Great service at any time.

Yelp
We came to visit and were craving pizza so ordered from here. I should have read since it says 28" pizza but I clearly missed that part. There were three of us and we ordered the Roni. We had no idea it was going to be so big (again I clearly can't read hahah). Plus the price should have been an indicator. I figured NY style but this was times that by 100. When the delivery person had to get it out of the trunk I knew too. LoL. The pizza was HUGE but truly worth it. It was delicious and we were able to share with the hotel staff! Plus their ranch was good too! One slice def is enough to fill ya up!!

Hawk D.

Yelp
My wife and I got pizza last night from here and we got the snowy day, the Roni pizza, and the garden pizza, we only got the slices and a amounted to $26. The Roni slice was absolutely delicious but the other two slices, kind of tasted super bland and boring. One of the slices had a huge crust bubble in the middle of it and it felt like we got cheated out of our pizza. One of the slices felt like it didn't even have the white sauce all the way to the crust and it tasted bland and boring so we only ate half that slice and threw the other half away great portion size, great service and ambience, but flavor was lacking a lot. Kinda disappointed for it being my first time ever trying this place

Yelp
Absolutely ginormous. Feeds 12 people! Pizza was great. Crust was thin and crispy. Best pizza I've ever had!

Yelp
The Real Deal - PieZaa Pizza Never Disappoints! I've eaten at PieZaa Pizza many times now, and I can confidently say it's anything but "just reheated pizza." Anyone who claims otherwise clearly doesn't know great pizza when they taste it! The flavors are fresh, bold, and crafted with care every single time. One of the standout features for me is the crust. That extra touch of butter and garlic takes it to a whole new level--it's absolutely superb. Whether I'm indulging in my go-to pepperoni or their incredible sausage pizza (seriously, don't miss this one!), every bite is a reminder of why I keep coming back. PieZaa Pizza has mastered the art of pizza-making, and it shows in every detail--from the quality of the toppings to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. This is the kind of pizza that keeps you dreaming about your next visit. If you haven't been here yet, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Trust me, this is the pizza you've been looking for.

Yelp
Such a great vibe in this place. The people that work here seem to be having so much fun, music playing, laughing and joking. Such positive energy. They have an excellent craft beer fridge with different choices and the pizza was fantastic. One slice is the size of my face. I had the sausage pizza which was delicious and one slice filled me up. Definitely recommend.

Cathleen C.

Yelp
Disappointed to say the least. A third of my pizza is a burnt bubble and I am a fan of pie za but this is a big bummer for me and probably should of been served
google avatar

Kimberly F.

Yelp
Definitely reminiscent of NYC pizza! Also, the serving size?!? HOLY COW!! If you are a sweets person I recommend getting their cookies as well! (Not pictured) but absolutely amazing and on the larger scale as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Went to Asheville for a girls weekend--after a few drinks we obviously needed some fuel! This spot hit the spot! The service is spot-on and speedy! The staff was friendly and super helpful. I asked a few questions because I wasn't sure what kind of pizza I wanted to try. I'm so glad I grabbed the garden slice! It had roasted red peppers, artichokes, onions, and mushrooms. I loved the artichokes on it. The decor was super nice too!
google avatar

Yelp
The perfect late-night eat. I had a craving for NY-style pizza, and this did it. I visited around 10:00 PM on a weekend night and it was busy. This was a good thing as it kept the pizza rotation fresh. I enjoyed my single huuuuuge slice of pepperoni. With just the right amount of cheese and sauce, it was a delight to eat. I picked up some extra sauce on the side for the crust. There's plenty of standing room to eat, and the service is solid. This one is worth the visit.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
Pizza and cookies were delicious!! Staff was really friendly and nice. Place was clean.

Yelp
A couple friends and I stopped in when we drove through town and I'm glad we did. To start we struggled to find parking so one of us had to drive around while the other went to pick up the food. The slices here are huge and tasty. The price is fair. I like how creative some of their pies are. It was worth a stop.
google avatar

Henry R.

Yelp
I have been coming to this place for years. They have the best pizza in Asheville. I definitely recommend this spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Pie-ZAA is located perfectly near the brewery district and is the best possible late night snake after drinking or just plain wanting a munchie snack. Love the vibes of this place, Bob Ross paintings on tv and one of the chefs was constantly cranking out pizzas, you can see it all being made. We got a slice of cheese and pepperoni and man are they massive. Ranch dipping tasty as well. Their NYC style pizza had a unique taste to it, definitely love the pepperoni cups on the pizza. Service is friendly and always on the move, they get you served quickly. Will absolutely be back, great place.

Stephen L.

Yelp
The pizza tasted really good, seeing the employees work while your pizza is being prepared is a definite plus for this establishment. The gentleman who was making the pizza looked focused and well mannered. The lady who was helping us showed a genuine care for the customers and respectful. Thank you for your Service!
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
Have you ever had a 28 inch pizza? If not, you're missing out. Pie.Zaa has some of the largest pizza slices I've seen outside of NYC. Stop by for some classic flavors like pepperoni or try their seasonal specials. Don't forget to get a side of the homemade Zip sauce for dipping. Their service is top notch and always fun! You can catch them live streaming their pizza making on a daily basis through their IG.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
The pizza is HUGE! The Slices are HUGE! The ranch was good. I enjoyed the pizza, but the pizza itself ended up being a little unsettled in my belly. The staff were friendly. I'd consider stopping back because it was good - hoping next time my belly likes it too!
google avatar

Phillip C.

Yelp
Good pizza and a place to socialize. Most of the people are coming after a few drinks.
google avatar

Ed D.

Yelp
Pie.zaa pizza is reliably good and a a great novelty pizza when ordering a whole pie. Kids love it! However, beware that it's almost 32" square so ensure that you have room in your trunk or back seat! There is cozy indoor seating for about 15 people and outdoor seats so we've never been without a seat though probably gets really busy when the nearby breweries begin to close. This is'nt the best pizza in town and I wish they had a few more options such as onions and peppers but there is still something for everyone.

Alyssa M.

Yelp
I've experienced piezaa in charlotte and loved the pizza. Unfortunately I ordered (online) from this location and my order was continually bumped for two hours until it was eventually cancelled. I get that these things happen but when I reached out to the store (which you can only do via email, there is no phone number) they basically blamed the issue on grub hub and said they can't help. This is reaaaally not a good look. I suggest not ordering online from this business.

Amelie S.

Yelp
Seriously? A pizza place that doesn't let you order a pizza with your own toppings? I'm vegan, so USUALLY pizza places are an easy go-to place for me to eat out.... But here I am, and I ask for a pizza with no cheese.... And I'm told..... that's not possible???? Tf????? I have literally never been to any other pizza place where the pizzas are PRE SET? Isn't that the whole point of the pizza place? To put your own toppings on it?? I guess my business will be seen by dominoes and papa John's instead.
google avatar

Lindsey U.

Yelp
No complaints, a great pizza slice. Nicely toasted for a crispy bottom, fast service, friendly workers and great taste. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
The pizza here is giant, and I mean GIANT! It's a very fun spot to try out. The slices are delicious to boot, though a bit greasy. I couldn't even finish mine! It was ready quickly as well. The ranch was just okay, I probably could have passed on that. Overall very worth it though!
google avatar

Melinda S.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch during our trip to Asheville. You have the option to order an entire pie or you can order by the slice. Their pies and slices are HUGE. My boyfriend ordered a plain cheese slice and I tried their December special, Snowdazed, which had mozzarella, ricotta, basil, sun dried tomatoes, and balsamic glaze. We also ordered a cup of their Zip sauce for dipping our crusts. Both slices were very tasty, the crust had a good texture and I loved the balsamic glaze on my slice and how it blended well with the other flavors. The Zip sauce had a nice little kick. I couldn't quite finish my slice due to how large it was, but my boyfriend happily finished it for me. People working here were friendly. Overall, this was a solid pizza spot and I'd happily go back if I'm in the area again!
google avatar

Yelp
LITERALLY THE BEST PIZZA MY SISTER AND I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! Like impeccable, fresh, hot, perfect sauce, perfectly cheesed!! This is truly DELICIOUS! Also the slices are HUGE! I think it's the tastiest crust I've ever had -- pillowy and perfectly cooked. 1000 POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR FOR THIS ONE! I will come here EVERY SINGLE TIME I come to Asheville! The service is wonderful too -- really sweet down to earth people. Really cute space as well, very clean, open and adorable. 11/10.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this while on vacation. The pepperoni slice was good, and the Sweet Caroline got great reviews from our group. My slice was a bit charred on the bottom, but was otherwise enjoyable. What we got was a great value for the money, especially considering the size of the slices. Not a ton of seating, and is located in an odd spot, but the staff is really cool. Ultimately, this is a good spot to grab a slice if you're walking around Asheville.
google avatar

Schyler D.

Yelp
Excellent NY-style slices. Cheese and sauce go well together and the sausage has a nice unique flavor. Crust is perfect, with soft yet crisp outside that lends to easy and durable folding for easy eats. And you'll definitely need to fold it, as these slices are enormous! They are quite expensive, but when you consider one slice is almost the size of two slices, it is a bit more reasonable.
google avatar

Javier N.

Yelp
Probably the best pizza I've had in a long time. Highly recommend whether you're buying a slice or a whole 28" pizza ! Delicious
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
Ordering a pizza here was so quick and easy. It was a small shop thay was very casual. And I dont think I have ordered such a huge pie before omg, we had to put it in our trunk !!! It was delicious. Definitely feeds a lot of people
google avatar

Yelp
Huge slices of pizza! I tried the cheese pizza, it wasn't oily and the sauce was good. The staff was friendly and the pizza was not overly priced.

Yelp
I have eaten at BOTH PIE.ZAA locations before. The food is delicious and I am a big fan, so it really hurts my heart to write such a poor review, but the way I was treated last night at this PIE.ZAA was beyond terrible. I placed an order online at 9:11 pm for THREE Get Baked slices. Overall, my order total was 32$. I was at work and getting out late so I placed it for pick up at 11:15 pm. Admittedly, I get there a little later around 11:45, but I still expected my food to be ready. However when I get there they say they "sold out" of the get baked pie and only had a cheese and pepperoni left for me to pick from. I explained I placed my order 2 hours ago, but they still said they "sold out" and that was what was left. A man in the background said they stopped making pizzas 10 minutes before I got there, which would have been 11:35. Again, my order pickup time was for 11:15, so three slices of pizza should have been set aside between the time I ordered and the time I went to pick it up. I do not like pepperoni, so they sent me home with ONE single cheese slice, since I was so hungry, I didn't want to leave empty handed. However, I should not have to spend $32 on the flavors I didn't ask for. This was beyond frustrating because I just came out of a double shift from MY food service job, where I was packing orders and making sure they were accurate for the customers. So when I was treated with less than what I JUST spent 12 hours doing made me BEOYND upset. These three slices were gonna be my dinner tonight AND my Thanksgiving meal. This was ALSO a 40 minute round trip for me, so this experience was a waste of time, gas, and money. The service tonight was absurd, and I did contact PIE.ZAA to get my FULL refund back. EDIT: I have contacted PIE.ZAA for my refund. I will be getting my refund as well as a 25$ gift card. Customer service via email was a much better experience. They explained to me that since Hurricane Helene, they have been making only pepperoni and cheese pizzas late at night. Special pies like the Get Baked pie are not made to minimize overconsumption. I wish that was explained to me by the employees, but I understand that it was late, as well as the night before a holiday. I had just gotten out of my own food service job which I mentally checked out of hours ago. So, I completely understand the feeling. Maybe, if there was a way to turn off ordering the specialty pies passed a certain time online, it would make things less confusing. I know there are ways to do it on other ordering systems, but I am not sure about smaller locations such as PIE.ZAA. Either way, I am glad the situation was sorted, and I'll be making great use of the $25 gift card. I'll just try to go in a little earlier next time so I can snag a Get Baked slice!
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Great little spot downtown. Quick and friendly service, the staff seemed to enjoy their jobs. Stop in and grab a beer and a slice of pizza. Or order one to go (if you can fit a whole one in your car) Get the zip sauce!
google avatar

Yelp
Guys you need this pizza. The dudes working here are great too. They literally had Bob Ross playing on a TV in the kitchen that the whole restaurant could see. If that doesn't give you the vibes of this place, I'm not sure what will. The sizes are HUGE - a single slice is more than enough for one person, but then you can get a kitchen table-sized pizza. Like, I wish I had enough friends to share that with. I would advocate that every town needs a pizza joint like this, and PIE.ZAA really has this down. Honestly, round of applause for these guys.
