"This pleasing cafe from Chef Mercedes Bernal is found in Roma Norte and boasts a corner location at the Edificio Río de Janeiro. The look evokes Art Deco style with bold patterned tiled flooring, marble tables, leather banquettes, pale walls, and warm lighting. The amiable service team enhances the good vibes here. The menu offers broad appeal in its offerings of charcuterie, steamed mussels with French fries, and pork schnitzel. There is also creativity at work in items such as the vegetable-focused plate of roasted carrots with macha sauce on creamy tofu; and the loosely cooked short grain rice seasoned with turmeric, topped with spiced shrimp, and drizzled with tzatziki sauce." - Michelin Inspector

The 19 Best Restaurants In Roma, Mexico City - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"The step-above-casual date night spot in Roma is Pigeon. It’s an energetic cafe on a charming corner in Plaza Río de Janeiro, and is a cozy, classed-up setting with mid-century modern decor, leather booths, and dim lighting. For a place this nice, it’s surprisingly always easy to walk in and get a table. The menu uses Mexican ingredients like zucchini blossom, avocados, and local seafood and mixes them up with a European flair. Share the pesto fettuccini with fried artichoke and pecorino—it’s al dente perfection, and the creamy pesto isn't over-the-top strong (so no scaring off your date with too much garlic). And end with the not-overly-sweet homemade bread pudding with macerated prunes and vanilla ice cream." - guillaume guevara

The 38 Essential Mexico City Restaurants

"Located in a restored Art Deco building overlooking colonia Roma’s most iconic park, Pigeon delights diners with a thoughtful approach to ingredient sourcing and seasonality. Chefs Mercedes Bernal and Rodney Cusic are behind the culinary project, inspired by casual European taverns. Though the menu isn’t vegetarian, options with vegetables are plenty and delicious, like roasted carrots with creamy tofu, rice with eggplant and turmeric, and rice croquettes with mushrooms and mozzarella. If you want something hardier, the roasted chicken with harissa and lemongrass is an excellent option, while the steak tartare with capers is a favorite among locals. It’s worth checking out the cocktail menu, designed by the team behind Pigeon’s sister cocktail bar, Brujas, next door." - Natalia de la Rosa, Daniela Galarza

Perfectly prepared chicken sits on a bed of sauce that almost taste like an elevated buffalo and smokiness. Super crunchy bright fennel salad, not heavy but with finely shaved cheese on top.

I had the spicy rice with shrimp. It was so good it inspired me to leave my very first Google Review. I wanna marry that rice, divorce it to add some drama and then re-marry. Five stars

We had a fantastic dinner at Pigeon. The mussels in white wine were truly Michelin star-worthy—perfectly cooked, aromatic, and beautifully plated with golden fries and grilled lemon. The fried calamari came in a very generous portion. And the ricotta gnocchi? Silky, rich, and packed with flavor—easily shareable between three people. The live singing added a joyful, intimate energy to the evening. The dining space is stunning—lots of greenery, modern furniture, and a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. Best of all, I had noted it was my friend’s birthday—and the staff went out of their way to surprise him with a lovely gesture. So thoughtful and kind! I truly hope this place continues to thrive. It deserves more attention and love!

We had lunch there today. The food was great and our waitress was amazing but the hostess has a serious attitude problem. They should definitely reconsider having someone else in that position as they’re the first impression people get of the restaurant.

This restaurant was excellent and centrally located in Roma. It wasn’t on my list, but the inviting aroma, happy faces, and warm greeting drew me in to take a seat and check out the menu. We started with some orange wine and an Espresso Martini, and from that moment, we knew lunch was going to be fire because If the martini is delicious then I can proceed. I ordered a salad and the mussels, which were delicious—the base sauce of the Mussels was Michelin star-worthy.

This was one of my favorite meals we shared while in Mexico City. Be aware that "Mediterranean Restaurant" in Pigeon refers to food made in any country that touches the Mediterranean, not your more common Greek/Lebanese cuisine (though they are featured). The cheese board was a delicious combo of meats, fruits, nuts, and super soft bread to keep you busy. For entrees we had a pasta dish a piece, and loved trying all three different offerings there. For drinks, the highlight was a Gorgonzola Negroni, which exceeded shaky expectations by a long shot. When I come back to CDMX, I'm adding this to the top of my list of places to go.

Peaceful brunch experience by the park and fountain, mole eggs were incredibly flavorful. Very attentive staff and easy to drop in for a table

Bad service and super average food. Ordered two entries, they didn’t have like half things on the menu. We finished both our drinks and the glasses sat empty at the table like 20 minutes. We ordered the ceviche and it was super average and the portions were super tiny. For the main courses we ordered the spicy rice and the schnitzel. The spicy rice honestly tasted like spicy rice from Costco, the shellfish was overcooked at the point where it had a rubbery consistency. The schnitzel didn’t had any flavour and the fries that come with it tasted and the consistency was like frozen supermarket fries. Super overpriced for the thing you can get, we both returned our plates.
