Portland Food Cart the Village Kitchen Serves Kachin Food in Sellwood - Eater Portland

"Village Kitchen is a Kachin food cart run by Awng Htoi in Sellwood’s Piknik Park pod. The menu features dishes like 'Village Curry' and 'Village Cooking,' incorporating traditional Kachin ingredients such as turmeric, paprika, Sichuan peppercorn, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms. Htoi developed these recipes using memories from his family's kitchen and FaceTime chats with his mother. The menu also includes a tea leaf salad and shifts seasonally to introduce new items." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

First time visiting, had the fish n chips, didn't disappoint. Love the beer garden, perfect little spot for a quick bite.

I had a fantastic time at Piknik Park Food Carts + Beer Garden! The selection of food carts offers a great variety, and the quality is top-notch. I ordered tacos with perfectly seasoned meat, topped with fresh cilantro and onions—simply delicious. The atmosphere at the park is relaxed and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to enjoy great food with friends or family. I also tried the “Blue Blue” drink from Casa Taita, a refreshing blue raspberry flavor with lychee jellies. It was an excellent choice for a warm day—light, flavorful, and refreshing. The park has a great vibe with friendly service and ample seating. If you’re in Portland, this is a must-visit spot for food truck lovers! Highly recommend!

Google
Great food selection in a very clean and friendly pod. They have a covered area with a heater and a firepit area in the back. Its a bit out of our way but we would definitely make the effort to get there again.

We’re addicted to Jin Bak but the other options must be tried soon. Cute little spot with tables and a ‘beer garden’.

Google
Jin Dak has amazing chicken. Moist, flavorful, crunchy, and just solidly tasty. The radish kim chi is killer and the sauces are also very good. Overall delicious and convenient from their food cart. We went twice in the five days we were there, that should say enough.

Google
I won't go there again. Too many "sit down and wait on me restaurants" where the cost is comparable and so is the food.

Google
Piknik Park was a cool experience as my first time checking out a food course of food trucks. I will say it wasn't like a super obvious place to find but I had the most delicious burrito from a place..but the other thing is that their business wasn't marketed well so I'm not even sure where I got food from. But the beer was dope too and I had some local brews! Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
Wake the kids and call the neighbors! The Piggy Bank is the newest place at the Piknik Park.Grab a beverage and enjoy an appetizer...the bacon wrapped jalapeños won't disappoint. Write your folks back home that you just had the best burger while enjoying the "Boss Hog" burger.Text your Ex bc mistakes were made but nothing compares to you Kickin chicken sandwich...I adore you...

Yelp
Lovely selection of food trucks. When I visited on a Saturday evening, 7 of 9 carts were open. Parking here SUUUUUUCKS. You either have to get lucky with a street spot on very busy Tacoma or the very packed neighborhood, or you have to be willing to risk a tow from New Seasons nearby. I'll let you guess what I did... I ordered for 4 adults and 2 kids takeout from 3 places to take home. Total was $91 including tips. Taste of Casablanca Lamb plate Lamb Gyro Lamb Gyro Salad Overall yummy and decent portions. We weren't fans of the beet salad though. Sauc'd Bechamel and cheese Pretty expensive for the portion. Nice creamy sauce. Rasa Beef Birria tacos Chorizo dumplings Yummy tacos, but there should be 3 of them. The dumplings were so lovely and the cream sauce divine.

Yelp
So many good options to choose from, you really can't go wrong here. I suggest Uncle Tsangs and the Korean fried chicken It's devine!!

Yelp
There are so so many food truck pods in PDX! My husband and I happened upon this one after coming out of the New Seasons market next door and while we were probably not supposed to, we loaded our groceries into the car and walked right over to Piknik Park. We ended up arriving late and not all of the trucks were open. We pretty quickly found RUSA a truck offering Russian fusion dishes, and ordered chorizo pierogi and a hibiscus Agua Fresca. The chorizo pierogi was hearty and well prepared and definitely pushed past the usual potato or cheese The hibiscus Agua Fresca was so flavorful! It was also so strong that I ended up watering it down and kept drinking it for the rest of the night.

Yelp
This food cart pod is adorable. It is right next to the New Seasons on Tacoma. It has an adorable beer garden in the back which is a fun lil place to eat the food from one of the nearby carts

Yelp
A cute, cloister of food carts in sellwood. There are picnic tables and covered areas to sit. You can grab a beer and your food of choice. It's worth a stop.

Yelp
I had the Falafel Pita Wrap at Casablanca Moroccan Food and it was just mind dazzling! There was so much delicious sauce that I just gave up wiping my mouth between bites. And felt no shame. Because it was that good. A lot of falafel wraps are dry. Ha ha ha, say they! If you ever want a lunch by yourself that will make solitude extra sweet, go there! Or, of course, take your favorite vegetarian, but prepare to get a bit piggy. :) plus, the guy working the cart was super nice!

Yelp
Exceptional. YATRA Glad we found this place on our way around the area. We tried the Nepalese Street food truck and could not have been more pleased. "Steamed Mo:Mo" It does seem like every culture has a dumpling but I think the Nepal ones may just be the best. This dish comes highly recommended by the two foodies in our group that consumed the meal with little dialogue other than the fight for the last one. The tomato based sauce (those words don't do it justice) has a bite that is really a perfect pairing and the dumplings inside and out were perfect. Can't wait to come back once my digestive system has made room!

Yelp
One of my favorite pods! I love the selection of diverse food carts here ranging from Asian, vegan, hearty meat dishes, smoothies, and even some booze. The Vegan Grub is my favorite! The buffalo and bbq wings really hit the spot. I've never had wings sooo finger lickin' good! They can do 1/2 and 1/2 if you ask. I wasn't a fan of the cashew mac and cheese. It was really bland and tasted off. The Dive Bar is great and I got a Mimosa. You can beer, wine, and cider here too. The Straits of Malaysia has a lot of unique dishes. The Vegan Stirfry has nice flavor with seasoned tofu and a heap of veggies - bean sprouts, peppers, cabbage, scallions - tossed in spicy coconut sauce on a large bed of rice. Very hearty! There are a few other carts that offer tacos, smoothies, and savory meat dishes. Great variety with many crowd-pleasing options, good for groups and picky-eaters.

Yelp
I came here about two years ago. Although I don't remember too much about the food, I recall that it was okay. What makes this place great is that it's a hub of many food trucks where you get a pretty decent selection. All the eating is outdoor so it's nice during a pandemic. The outside decor is cute w lights and picnic benches. It was a great experience coming here.

Yelp
In the mood for Mexican food but tired of the same old choices? The newest cart, RUSA hits the spot with their Russian & Latin American fusion! Who knew that a pierogi could be brought to life with chorizo? The tamale is perfectly balanced in flavors and spice with a fluffy masa and an intriguing sauce. And the hibiscus Agua Fresca will transport you to Jamaica, reminding you of sorrel with its ginger edge.

Yelp
Cute little food cart pod tucked away next to New Seasons. Great variety of food choices. I went with the butter brush and received one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. This cart just opened and is run by a local Husband and Wife team. The burger was juicy and the fries were perfect. I received great service and am proud to support this family run business. I will definitely be back to try more menu items. The corn beef rueben looked amazing.

Yelp
I love the whole concept of these food carts in Portland. I wish my hometown (Sacramento) start something like this. I love arrays of different eateries and the communal dining tables or stools. It's really a lovely way to get the communities to be closer to one another.

Yelp
Ok..... yummy food. Awesome beers from the NY Brewer on site. Only 2 food food carts open currently so the selection is limited right now. They're adding 2 more though. If you're in the area check it out.

Yelp
Congrats Sellwood! A new Korean food truck "JIN DAK" has opened in the park! The friendly owner told me that it's been open for three months!!! Wow, I'm so glad to see my kind of comfort food right in the nearby neighborhood! Tried the fried chicken wings and legs in Korean style, and as soon as I saw it coming out, I knew I was going to become a regular, I knew this before I tasted it. A visual tells a lot! Once I took a bite, I was home back in Seoul instantly like at a friend's house with home made food! Everyone at our table loved it! A mega hit! I'm gonna have to come back and try their bibimbap next time! See you soon, JIN DAK!

Yelp
This is one of my three favorite food cart pods. My criteria for a good food, pod is where I have at least three choices I struggle to choose from. It needs good seating and undercover as well as restrooms or at least Porta potty's. As usual with food cart pods around lunchtime some struggle to be open by noon.

Yelp
Food was fabulous, vibe wonderful and people awesome. Special shout out to person who found and turned in my son's cell phone! THANK YOU!!

Yelp
So amazing! This place carrys the best of the best when it comes to food carts. My girlfriend and I have been going to Straights Kitchen for about a year now and it is by far the best food truck I've been too. Right after that comes The Portland Press where I have finally found the cubano I need, and it's not even 5 minutes from home! The pod is always updating and bringing you new food whether it's from a cart already there or a new one coming in. Never disappointed with the beer either! Keep it up Piknik Park PDX!

Yelp
The new assistant manager ran so hard for both of us. Gratis!

Yelp
These are the best tacos EVER! This is where my partner & I go to eat for anniversaries and lazy Sunday lunches with good friends. We love the food and adore Papa Lee. The atmosphere at Piknik is very inviting and tranquil, perfect place to bring your dog, children, or special date. If I haven't convinced you yet of the wonderful quality and care he puts into his food, we've set our sights on Papa Lee to cater our future wedding. ^.^ -Cam & Jon

Yelp
Nice setting for a food truck court. There is a bathroom, nice variety of foods, adequate and clean seating. Definitely would like to return.

Yelp
The Dive Bar was great. Mac and cheese was one of the best my daughter has had. My Stormbreaker Red Ale hit the spot this morning. We also had Spicy Chicken bite bowl and sweet potato fries with tamarind mayo from Straits was very good as well.

Yelp
Great food carts. with takeout or seating. Love the salmon croissants and the Chicago-style hot dog carts.

Bob K.

Yelp
This is the kind of place you create a yelp account for just to give a review. Devin's Plant-Based Grub is absolutely fantastic. As a meat eater with a vegan girlfriend, it astounded me how delicious a vegan wrap can be. Great prices and good portions. 10/10 and 12/10 with rice

Yelp
Papa Lee's kitchen is my favorite food cart in Portland! Papa Lee and Augustine are just the greatest people. They are so friendly and the food is amazingly delicious. I love the pork carnitas. It all tastes so fresh!

Joel K.

Yelp
This place is bomb!! They make everything from scratch and the guys who were there when I went were super cool!! Definitely check this place out if you're in Sellwood!!
