"This venerated spot near the University of Dayton campus is a local institution, serving some of the most satisfying steaks in the area since 1947. The kitchen cuts and ages steaks in-house, but what really sets this Brown Street establishment apart is the ambiance. Walking through the doors feels like stepping into a previous era. Warn-but-polished wood surfaces surround and fill the warmly lit space. As crowded as it can get during peak hours, each booth feels like its own private dining room." - David Nilsen

So much has already been said about the greatness of the Pine Club. From the hand-trimmed dry aged steaks to the actual pine paneling on the inside, it’s all been highly praised and deservedly so. All I can humbly do is reaffirm to you that the Pine Club remains a culinary institution in Dayton. 70+years of putting out classic steaks in a classic supper club. Not to mention the delicious sides like the creamed spinach or the succulent lobster. There’s also the extensive wine list. Really impressive. So is the bar! And the service was truly great. They are so true to their roots that they still only accept cash or checks. Or you have the option to open a house account. No credit cards accepted. No reservations taken either. As they say at the Pine Club, “good food is worth the wait”. They put a bow on the meal with an Esther Price after dinner chocolate. Go and experience the history and tradition of the Pine Club with their tender and delicious steaks. Thank me later.

First, bring cash. They don't accept card although you can join the club and they'll mail you a receipt to pay. Second, have three stars because the steak is the entire star of the show and the rest of the food was mid at best. They definitely cleave to the idea that the 70s was the best time. Go for the atmosphere and the steak. Steak was like butter and one of the absolute best ones I've ever had. Again, don't worry about the other stuff they'll serve you. Just go for the steak.

Google
Amazing steakhouse! We had a large work party of around 15 people & they were great! The food was amazing, steak (filet) was cooked to perfection. The choices were all yummy and the staff were so friendly. Definitely would recommend this little spot for dinner if you are in the Dayton OH area. A steakhouse that’s been around 75 years is doing something right & the charm of the atmosphere was on point. It was so quaint, dark and old school! Thank you for the experience!

Google
Amazing steak!! I travel for work and I love finding old-school local spots. Amazing filet, garlic mash, and creamy spinach. Great service. No reservations allowed and they take cash or you can become a member for free and they will bill you and you can pay online.

Google
Amazing bone in ribeye cooked to perfection. Tender, not heavily seasoned, great taste of the meat flavor. I wanted the porterhouse but knew there was no way to finish it. Just for reference, my “best steakhouse in America” is Pappas Bros in Dallas/Houston. This must be a close second. Old Pine is definitely old school ambience, dont expect modern day fancy white tablecloth etc. I think it is still great. Oh and a nice wine by the glass list including Caymus Cab! This is a must eat place! Keep in mind, cash only unless you want to setup a house account. Note: it is a hand written receipt, some companies dont allow that for expensing. Only bar receipt is printed and you have to the a picture, they want the receipt back. Maybe a house account needed for more proper receipt.

Google
Really cool, dark, old school steakhouse with delicious steaks. The bone in ribeye and pork chops were awesome, so were the onion strings, hash browns, and shrimp cocktail. Some of the sides are too retro, like canned green beans almondine. The side salads were meh, I should have upgraded to a Caesar. Very friendly service at both bar and table. And they take out of state personal checks, might be the last time in my life I ever see that again!😂

Google
Hell of an experience. Cash only. Low light. Chill vibe. But busy as hell. The steak was amazing. Bar service was promt and delicious drinks. Its definitely a unique spot to come in Dayton.

Google
"One of the world's ten greatest traditional dining institutions" - The New York Times There are no desserts on the menu. No credit cards are accepted. They don't take reservations. When Secret Service agents asked for a table for George and Barbara Bush, they were told the wait was 45 minutes. The restaurant is virtually unchanged since it opened in 1947. The menu and wood paneling are still the same, and I hope it stays that way for another 77 years. Great food & ambiance. Would definitely return.

Yelp
After dined here for countable times over the past several years (during our regular OH visits), I can summarize this restaurant as the following: old school, dark ambiance-can be brighter, down to earth vibe, authentic, friendly, quality food, delicious, and good price...CASH only, to be aware of. This is one of the few restaurants we found that serve quality and delicious beef livers, and cook the livers to perfection. As you probably have figured, this is one of our fav dishes here. But, let's not to forget the other yummy items from the menu, like the ribeye and bone in ribeye; other cut of steaks, lamb chops and soups...etc. so far we have not had any complaints over the dishes nor the services. Staff have always been friendly. Additionally, she reasonable length of wine list has some great choices, especially the house brand wine which was bottled in Monterey, CA one of my favorite wine regions. There are parkings in the back of the restaurant, just look out for the signs. Highly recommend by @WineDinenVacay

Yelp
Overrated! with high expectations based on numerous positive reviews and widespread acclaim. Unfortunately, my experience did not align with the hype.

Yelp
The Pine Club WAS a great steakhouse that helped celebrate many occasions. The ambiance was always warm and inviting and the steaks melted in your mouth. The juice ran from them to add great flavor to the wonderful hash browns. Rolls and salad were spot on. As I said WAS. I am very sad that this iconic restaurant is nothing like it use to be. The ambiance is nothing but noise and an irritating waitress - fake accent and smile with zero attention to detail. Wine and beer were good. Salad was roughly chopped iceberg lettuce with shaved carrots (really???). Rolls were not brought to table - we had to ask for them AND no butter - oops she forgot. I ordered filet medium rare and hash browns. Steak looked medium rare but had no flavor nor juice and the hash browns were a thin layer of overcooked bland potatoes. Asparagus was cold as was the hollandaise sauce. Partner ordered the bone-in ribeye that was also bland. Baked potato was cold and served with no butter - oops she forgot again. Save your money and visit a different Dayton iconic restaurant that still has great food and service as The Pine Club is not your place! I am sad to give this poor review but this isn't the first time I've been dissatisfied but the first it's been this bad.

Yelp
I have lived in Dayton my entire life and had never tried this place out. My friend was visiting from out of town and we decided to go here for dinner. It's a good thing we called ahead because they do have a dress code. You cannot wear a hat, athletic shorts, or have holes in your jeans; at least that's what we were told over the phone. With my friend being from out of town, all he had was athletic shorts, so he had to borrow some of my clothes, which was pretty annoying. The place was very busy when we got there and we had about a half hour wait. The problem is, they really don't have a waiting room, they make you sit at the bar until the hostess comes and gets you. For someone like me who doesn't drink, this was a little uncomfortable to have to sit at the bar. Also, the place is cash or check only, unless you open up a Pine club account, which can be paid later online. I would be ok with the cash only policy, if they had an ATM. To go to one, you have to go across the street to the gas station. Besides the chatter of people in the building, there is no background music or anything in the building, which I thought was kind of odd. Once we were seated, we had some of the most exceptional service we've ever had, our waitress was absolutely amazing. We both ordered steaks with two sides and a salad. As you wait for your food, you are given bread and butter, what I didn't like is the bread and butter are both refrigerated and was hard as a rock when it was brought out to you; do not expect to spread your butter. The salad was very underwhelming, it was nothing but chopped lettuce, and shredded carrot. For a high-end steakhouse, I would expect a better salad, at least add tomato and egg or something. I will say, though, I had a New York strip steak and it was one of the best steaks I have ever had, absolutely cooked to perfection, same with my sides. I had cream, spinach and garlic, mashed potatoes, absolutely delicious! My friend had surf and turf, and the same sides as me plus a baked potato. He said it was some of the best food he's ever had. The reason for the three stars is the cash only policy without an ATM, the dress code policy, which is not clearly outlined on their website, having to wait at the bar and not having a better waiting area, the cold bread and butter, the lack of music in the background with just chatter of people, and the underwhelming salad. If you want a really good steak, this is a good place for that, but other than that, not super impressed

Yelp
Place is as good as it gets, and he definition of a 5 star steakhouse, from the service to the bar and bartender to the salad to the steak and sides and finally to the desserts. If your restaurant has been around for 100 years, chances are you're not just doing some things right, you're doing everything right and Pine Club didn't disappoint for even a second.

Julia B.

Yelp
I'm very let down by this place, which is so unfortunate because I was looking forward to trying this steakhouse for so long. The ambiance here is fantastic. It is old, rustic and has a lot of charm. Very fantastic, love the atmosphere and I would come back for a drink alone just to sit at the bar and take in the setting. But the food was very underwhelming. I had ordered a medium filet mignon and it came extremely undercooked. My medium steak was more medium rare to rare. My boyfriend also ordered the ribeye medium rare and it was rare. In hindsight I should have sent these steaks back to the kitchen to cook for longer but as a customer at a fancy restaurant I shouldn't have to do that. I expect better from a place where we are paying 150 for dinner. Steaks came with some bread and a salad for starters and your choice of potatoes and some stewed tomatoes. The salt sticks in the bread basket were inedible because of how salty they were and the salad was mediocre at best (something I could make with a bag of lettuce at home). The stewed tomatoes were so so sweet, way too much sugar added to them. This place claims to be one of the top steakhouses in the country which I find very hard to believe. You can definitely find better steakhouses in the area.

Yelp
The Pine Club is still the same epic Dayton restaurant... It's been over 3 years since we've been back... In usual fashion, the restaurant hasn't changed a bit and continues with its originality. It's not hard to see why they've been in business for over 75 years. When you walk in, it's a throwback with original decor, dim lighting, and old school vibes. The menu is still the same with plenty of options, and excellent selections for US Prime steaks. The menu is not all-inclusive, so your meal comes with a steakhouse salad (get the house dressing), fresh baked bread, steak, potato (recommend the hash browns), and stewed tomatoes or vegetable of the day... The regulars know to put the stewed tomatoes on top of the hash browns. For one of Dayton's finer restaurants, pricing is very reasonable ($49 for the large filet mignon meal)... This would cost you $150+ at Ruth's Chris or Flemings, and The Pine Club is arguably as good, if not better. Be advised: No desserts. As for the service... It's typically average at best, with not super friendly servers. There's seemingly a bit of arrogance with the service staff, which is annoying (and frankly not right), but when you've been in business for as long as The Pine Club, I suppose you can get away with average service. PS - There are no reservations and it's cash or check only (no credit cards), so prepare ahead of time.

Yelp
An iconic steakhouse in Dayton. The food is amazing every time we visit. Worth the wait!!

Peter F.

Yelp
This restaurant was not as great as I remembered it. First they wouldn't take reservations, they just took us as we came in and seated us at the bar to make sure we'd order drinks. Then they didn't have butter knives, so I had to make a mess using unwieldy heavy steak knives. Them I realized they wouldn't take credit cards, so we had to spend down our cash reserves dangerously.

Keri L.

Yelp
I was very impressed. I remember when I was a little girl, my dad used to come to the Pine Club, often with business associates and my mom. I was never allowed to go. Back then, a suit jacket and tie was required. That is not the case anymore. They still ask you dress with formal attire but I wore a dress and my husband wore a nice button up shirt, fitted black jeans and dress shoes. It was an anniversary they don't do reservations and that made me a bit nervous but it was a Thursday evening. We went at about 530pm. It's dark inside and cozy but we were seated right away--the hostess was very prepared. She didn't need to take time to stare at dry erase chart. Almost as soon as our booties hit the seats someone came by and placed ice cold water in front of us and told us our server would be right with us. On the tables already were two menus, silver ware and napkins, and a dish of butter slices. I asked if I could order the bone in ribeye al a cart and our server stated yes, it would just be discounted about $5. We ordered the 4 shrimp & 4 oysters combo for appetizers, bone in ribeye (rare) and broiled lobster tail for me and hubby got the extra heavy filet mignon (medium rare) and salad wedge. We LOVED the appetizers. My husband has never had oyster before but surprisingly ate his two oysters! Next time I'll order more oysters for us! His salad was beautiful and honestly enough for two. Our steaks came out...though both were delicious and we were very happy with everything--his was definitely cooked more rare and mine was medium rare ‍ again, still very well seasoned fresh delicious cuts that were cooked with care. We didn't complain so we don't know if the temperature was due to server error or cook error. Our server did a fantastic job of checking on us and keeping our water glasses full. We did not have room for dessert tonight but the server brought us two adorable Pine Club chocolates that were made by Esther Price my husband gobbled both pieces up lol I cannot wait for our next special occasion to visit! WARNING: Line Club is C A S H ONLY! And with what we ordered (and two alcoholic beverages) our bill was $204, $245 after tip. Bring cash!

Yelp
My brother and I decided to try this place while we were house hunting and it did not disappoint. Hands down absolute best $52 steak meal I've ever feasted on. Cooked to perfection and the creamed spinach was out of this world. Highly recommend the garlic mash potatoes as well. Great service, great food, at a great price.

Mike P.

Yelp
We are obsessed with supper clubs and this place definitely gives off that vibe. After a short 30 minute wait at the bar (and one Manhattan and dirty martini) we were seated. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The asparagus and caesar salad were good. Only complaint is the lyonnaise potatoes weren't seasoned very well. Our server was also amazing!

Jeff W.

Yelp
Had an early dinner here on a Tuesday. Arrived at 4 and no real line just a few folks waiting. You cannot order food till 430 so we enjoyed cocktails. Sangria was so so and we don't recommend it. Martini was spot on. Food was very good. Steaks were excellent as well as potatoes and bread. We had the strip and the bone in rib-eye. The stewed tomatoes are super sweet. Don't recommend. Get the vegetables instead. The salad is very simple and basic but the house dressing excellent. They could dress up the salad a bit more. Many of the comments here talk about the servers being rude, rushed etc. Our server Linda was great. Very nice and attentive but not hovering. We had a few needs and she met them. The manager also came by which was nice since we came a long way to eat here. The ambiance is classic old school dark steakhouse with nice booths. So while the restaurant may have quite a legacy and be tired in some ways it's also timeless and they know what they are doing. Overall we highly recommend and we want to come back again.

Yelp
Lives up to the reputation as a classy , straightforward steakhouse with a super club feel. Great bar which helps when the wait is more than a few minutes. Steak offerings are solid, always deliver and the sides just complement everything. Consistency is the theme The mystique of no reservations & no credit cards is true but in context of what the Club does, it's fine. Never change !!!

Kevin G.

Yelp
The Pine Club name serves them well in continuing the mystique of a top notch dining experience. The food and the service are good, not great. Party of 5 with a mix of items from the menu and although the steaks were the best part of the meals the accompaniments lacked some refinement. The lobster tails were prepared almost to the point of overdone, the stewed tomatoes were a puree and overly sweetened and the oysters were probable shucked a few states away. Service was friendly, however lacked attentiveness and precision for a restaurant that has "best of" credentials. Would I dine here again, perhaps if all I wanted was a cocktail, steak and glass of wine. To entertain family and friends, eh. I know some better places not to far away.

Johanna G.

Yelp
We frequently eat at Pine Club and it is always fabulous! You can almost imagine old world gangsters sitting around the bar drinking martinis. My husband travels extensively and this is his favorite restaurant in the world! Our favorite waitresses are Theresa and Candy! Their steak, lobster tail and Caesar salads are superb!! They have a nice selection of wine, without the big markup you get at any steak house. They don't take reservations so everyone has to wait, usually at the bar, even George W Bush had to wait his turn ! They also don't accept credit cards, so bring cash or do yourself a favor and open a house account because you'll want to come back!!!

Tiffany L.

Yelp
I came back here with my parents for a meal and was super disappointed. Our server was Holly, who was standoffish and ignored us very often. She also never had a smile on her face. Her service was so slow and she was quite rude. Regarding the food, two things were still amazing: the fried oysters and the prime rib. They would be the only reasons I return. The other food? Not that great. The fries were okay, as were the crispy onions. Don't order the baked potato, because you'll get a small-medium sized potato with a knife slit in it. It isn't opened and there are no toppings. It's just a potato and a side cup of some sour cream. The green beans were their "vegetable of the day," but it was absolutely awful. Canned beans are better than their green beans. These were so bland and tasteless. Overall, had pretty bad experience here this time, which made me sad.

Grant G.

Yelp
Delicious bone-in ribeye and stellar service. Cash only which I enjoy...like a throwback to better times.

Yelp
Dayton Steak House... Truly fortunate to have several excellent steakhouses in the Greater Dayton Metropolitan area. In our view, Dayton Steakhouses compare with best in Kansas City, Chicago, Las Vegas, Houston, Omaha, Minneapolis, Fort Worth, Atlanta, Indianapolis, .... Our view: Paragon Supper Club, Carvers, Pine Club, Oakwood Club, Flemings,...? Individual experience, loyalty, quirks, ... all play a role in which is "best." In terms of steaks, we recommend all; in terms of service we recommend all, in terms of ambience, some deserve a three of five. In all instances, we order Ribeye. Pine Club Steak Five Star Service Five Star Ambience Three Star Credit Card One Star We are aware that Pine Club often receives both state and national attention; however, in our view there are too many quirks to this restaurant. There are Four other very nice steakhouse choices in the Greater Dayton Metropolitan Area. We have been Pine Club fans for nearly a half century. In our view other steakhouses are very competitive. We are discouraged by the Pine Club's credit card policy. For us there is No merit to hold a Pine Club charge account. We like that the wait staff's training is consistent, and is monitored by management. The training program is excellent. Ribeye is large and we highly recommend. Pine Club often is very busy; restaurant is small and "outdated." Pine Club is good for "date night." Many years ago, we dined at Pine Club monthly; now we vary steakhouse dining experiences. The ambience is dark and somewhat dated; Parking is challenging. The tariff is appropriate for the fare.

Angie H.

Yelp
Everything is always great! Service, food ambiance, as well as tradition. It is nice to have reliability in a restaurant.

Gloria Z.

Yelp
My eagerly awaited visit to the Pine Club fell short of 'good as it gets' - in summary: Ambiance 5 star Food 4 star Service at Bar - 5 star Service at Table - 2 star Ambiance was just lovely, classy, old school but not kitschy, and uber romantic. All that wood, tiled floor, low lights, simple artwork and soft indirect lighting at the booths, combined to create a rare mood. One thing that was odd is the bar seats being round backless stools, which made me think of a roadside diner. I was expecting something a bit more plush. The bartenders in uniform were real pros, eager to please and the cocktail was well mixed and strong. They do not have any signature cocktails. Our waitress was either inexperienced/badly trained, or pissed off, or having a lousy day, or something. She never greeted or welcomed us. She approached the table and the only thing she said was 'oh, you already have drinks' which we'd brought from the bar. I was intrigued to see hash browns as a potato choice and I asked her thoughts, telling her it was our first time. Her response was 'it's just, you know a hash brown patty; the baked potato is just a baked potato and the fries are FROZEN.' Yow! Talk about transparency. Her description of the famous stewed tomatoes was also very unappetizing so we both opted for day's vegetable which was Harvard beets, and those were the BEST beets I ever tasted. My husband agreed. No one ever refilled my ice water (I limited to one cocktail since driving) even when I moved the nearing empty glass to the outside of the table. The final straw was being asked 'do we need boxes?' No, at a $$$ classic steakhouse WE need YOU to have our leftovers neatly wrapped and return them to us. She failed on this and presented a bad attitude. Also as some others mentioned the courses were rushed without first removing used plates. The apps as expected are very small - light bites for one person, a true appetizer. The fried shrimp was a winner, nicely butterflied in an eggy batter. The herring was four tiny pieces out of a jar, smothered in plain sour cream also out of a jar. Very boring and unsatisfying. The salad was nothing, although the Red & Bleu dressing was excellent and worth the upcharge. The bread basket was beautiful but would have been so much better if it had been warm. Really liked the salty breadsticks. But we came for the meat and that was superb. Thick flavorful medium rare sirloin and a glorious veal chop nicely charred to the perfect requested medium. Thanks to the steak and chop I'm rounding up 3.5 stars to a 4. So, study the menu, bring cash, and hope you get a better waitress. I expect to get back here again at some point, after trying out the Oakwood Club!

Nick N.

Yelp
I loved coming here a year ago when I was in town. I haven't been back for a year. I think the quality of the meat went down ! The rib was not great and very disappointing. It wasn't even cook medium rare, and they even cut through the entire steak when they gave it to me. Come on !!!

MichaelnLaci P.

Yelp
By far the BEST experience I've had in the Dayton area! From the second you walk in the door, to the bartender pouring your amazing drink (Jess you're AMAZING!), Holly helping with picking what you should choose on the menu. Thank you all for an experience ever! We will be back!

Sharry N.

Yelp
Went for my Birthday yesterday and the food was excellent the service was very good . It wasn't real busy of course it was a Wednesday. I will probably go back next year for my birthday. Small place but very quaint

Dan O.

Yelp
This was such a great evening. After acclimating to the dark interior, it truly set the tone of the evening...warm and inviting. Our waitress was perfect and ensured our glasses were never close to being empty and the steak was cooked to perfection. I ordered the 8oz filet (med) with overstuffed baked potato and stewed tomatoes. It came with onion straws which paired well with the steak. I capped this off with one of the best Manhattan cocktails I've had...yes, they had the right cherries (lux)! A big THANK YOU to the people at Pine Club for making this a wonderful experience. Be sure to give Chris Ryan (GM) a big thank you when you're there as he runs a tight ship and he always has time to chat and create memories...he's the best!

Rhonda W.

Yelp
First thing you need to know is they don't take reservations and they don't take credit cards. So come prepared. We often try to be there were they open so stand in line and when it's cold ... well dress for it. This Dayton staple for steak and their steaks are amazing ... if thats what you like. luckily my husband talked me into not getting the steak and getting the lobster ... they were amazing cold water lobster which is the only lobster I will eat. The taste and texture were ideal. the service was attentive. In the winter being seated by the door .. well it gets cold. Even the desserts were good but the food is so good. It's expensive so only come for special moments like birthdays and to celebrate.

Dogpoop H.

Yelp
Made me take my hat off waited 1 hour and a half and they only except cash was here for my granpas 50th year at a company everything was paid for by the company haven't got my food yet but I already don't like this place.

Scot L.

Yelp
Good but NOT what it used to be. Took my wife and 2 Granddaughters here after the July 2023 Dayton air show. We were first to be seated. Had the pickled herring appetizer which must have had about TWO ounces of herring on it. Guess I can't complain for $5.95. The Filet Mignon was as good as always! The sides and my wife's Rainbow Trout were the problem! Her Trout was COLD...not even Luke warm. The onion straws were also COLD. The cheese on the baked potato looked like it had been on there for an hour! The Lyonnaise potatoes and mushrooms to be fair were fine. The salad was fine as was the service. Just these little things that add up and are annoying.

Karen P.

Yelp
Absolutely a lovely dining experience! Great atmosphere and service. Quality food Must have cash or check. No credit cards

James P.

Yelp
Took my sweetheart out for a Valentine's dinner, The Pine Club was her first pick. What a great time! Had a drink at the bar and only waited 35 minutes for a booth. Our bar keeper was delightful and her welcome was sincere. Our waitress was wonderful; pleasant, friendly and certainly did not rush us at all. We both enjoyed our steak dinners and had enough portions to take home to enjoy the next day. Once again, another great time at 'the club'!

Sidney S.

Yelp
On a Thursday with them having only tables sat. Would seat three of a party of five. This was five in afternoon. I slipped at the bar and said a bad word and the manger asked all to leave and was pushing friend out physically. What a poor attitude. I miss grub steak and now go to Pargon for steak.

Gregory D.

Yelp
Started coming here a couple years ago, in our 30s, had no prior experience or nostalgia. This is consistently the best meal of our year, we drive 70 miles to enjoy. One of the rare places that lives up to its hype. We find the old school ambiance refreshing and best of all, not too pretentious. The service is matter of fact and to the point which we appreciate.

Brayden V.

Yelp
Food is very good and you can tell the servers know what they are doing. I love the free salted bread and my favorite was the onion rings even though I hate onion rings. Steaks are always tasty and our wait for a table was expected as normal. Make sure to have only cash ready because that's all they accept. Overall vibe of the place was very nice and cozy.

Bailey D.

Yelp
Dining at the Pine Club is like taking a step back in time. I had such a fabulous meal and experience here - and I'd love to return for another special occasion soon. Before you read any further, make sure to note if you're planning a visit that they do not accept credit card. You can pay with cash, check, or a Pine Club house account card ... which is basically like a gift card that's linked to your credit or debit card. Don't get caught unprepared here - because they don't make exceptions. Also important to note - there are no reservations, so if you're planning to visit on a weekend, plan to beat the dinner rush by dining early or dining after 9. We chose the latter of those options - opting to pop in around 9:30 p.m. on a Friday night. We still ended up waiting at the bar for 20 minutes or so, but that didn't bother us, since we were able to really enjoy the nostalgic feel of the restaurant. Another note - they don't serve food at the bar. When we got to our table just before 10, we started with an order of Blue Point Oysters on the Half Shell. These oysters were HUGE, and certainly high quality. I'm a big fan of sides being included in my meal, and at the Pine Club, all dinners include stewed tomatoes or the fresh vegetable of the day, your choice of potatoes, salad dressings, and dinner rolls. It's PLENTY of food for the price - and every bite is delicious. I ordered the 8 oz. fillet cooked medium, and I have to say this was one of the best steaks I've ever had. I opted for the "famous" stewed tomatoes, and while I liked the texture, they were just a touch too sweet for my taste. Nevertheless, I dipped some of my dinner rolls in the tomatoes, and that seemed to solve the sweetness enough for me to finish the bowl. I also had a loaded baked potato, which was perfectly cooked, and absolutely delightful when paired with my steak. The old-fashioned atmosphere makes you feel a little extra fancy, and I have to say this is an experience I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Yelp
The GOOD: got there and there was only a 30 minute wait! found two seats at the bar! The drinks were very good ( huge pour) which is great. the house Chardonnay and Cabernet are both quite good. The shrimp cocktail we had before dinner was excellent. Love the salt sticks. Tomatoes with dinner were exactly what you expect at Pine Cub. Some people love them some people don't because they're too sweet. ( I like 'em). Service was good The BAD: The 30 minute wait turned into 1 1/2 hours The UGLY: We ordered two large filets and the heavy cut NY Strip. My NY strip was cooked perfectly but it was the toughest steak I have ever had in a restaurant. Half way through I couldn't chew anymore. I left half the steak on the plate. My baked potato ( with everything) was ugly indeed. it was barely warm, dry, the cheese on top had melted into a sheet of dried leather. it looked like it was made a week ago. The filets were cooked properly but nothing special. The place is loud and of course nostalgic ......which I get, but the quality is lacking these days. if you're a steak house and you deliver an inedible steak, there's a problem! Go to The Pine Club for the nostalgia, not a good steak.

Yelp
Decided to try out the Pine Club since it was suggested to us and has been around for a long time. To be honest I wasn't that impressed with the food. In my opinion most of the food was very bland, nothing special about it. I've had better steaks elsewhere that were more flavorful but I think the nostalgia of the place is what brings people back. Or maybe they truly enjoy the food and my expectations are different because the place was very busy. It does not have a large dining room and they don't take reservations so you need to arrive early. We arrived right at opening and there was already a line . My daughter's car broke down so my husband had to leave and get her. We told them we had a party of 6 because he was planning to come to the restaurant but since we only had 5 present they were not going to sit us. So be aware your entire party has to be there to be seated.

Yelp
Old and very dark. They still only take cash. Bizarre. Overhyped. For an old place, Oakwood Club is so much better.

Yelp
Best steak ever! Beats Capital Grille and Morton's! Pine Club has prices that can't be beat!

Yelp
The Pine Club remains an "institution," if not a legend. Outstanding steaks. If you want something else, go somewhere else. While slightly modernized over the decades, it's, essentially, the same outstanding restaurant it's been for a very long time. Note that no credit cards are accepted, so prepare for that. In looking through the reviews, I see a lot of whiners, if not bedwetters, many of whom seem to be looking for some formulaic, corporate-type experience. They should go somewhere else. The servers are efficient, knowledgeable, and (understandably confused, given that most patrons are longstanding customers) when novices show up, wondering why there are no desserts, a vegetable offerings are sparse (they're never the "main attraction," anyway), and amateur diners feel imposed upon, if they're seeking a chain restaurant type of experience and don't get one. There's a reason that the Pine Club has been around for many decades, and that reason is consistency, professional service, and outstanding steaks. Sure, there are some other main items on the menu, but why bother? You're in a steakhouse, and the Pine Club and their steaks receive global notice and have won numerous national awards from organizations that know what they're doing, and that focuses on properly preparing steaks. GO. Be prepared to wait a bit (or a lot on weekends) at the bar (it's part of "the experience"), bring a wad of cash (or visit the ATM across the street), and prepare yourself for some of the best steaks on the planet -- none better! But leave your whining at home. It's a grown up restaurant for grownup tastes, sophistication, and appreciation. No crybabies should appear (they spoil it for the rest of us).

Yelp
The ambiance is what you would expect from a supper club. The hosts are cordial and get you on the list. I sat at the bar waiting as having a drink. No food is served at the bar. I waited about 40 minutes and got seated as one of the last tables for the night. My server had been with the place for many years. Of course the entrée is proceeded by Brad service and a large house salad. I was full by the time my main arrived. The filet mignon steak was cooked perfectly. Accompanied by lyonnaise hash brown potatoes, fried onion straws and stewed tomatoes. A little bit of heaven in every bite. Do not sleep on you're tomatoes. They're like a dessert which is good because they don't serve dessert. Reasonable prices for all you get. Bring your cash because they don't accept credit cards. I didn't see an ATM.

Yelp
We were just looking for a place with mashed potatoes after my nephew had some dental work done and couldn't eat anything farm. Happened to be in Dayton to hear that famous country dance band called Trillium from Athens, Ohio. Anyway, we consulted Yelp! And found this place. We were pleasantly surprised! It's an absolutely cozy, red leather and dark wood lounge-restaurant, in the most classic sense. Packed-- clearly popular--we were grateful to be seated without even being asked if we had a reservation. (A lesser hostess would have asked while conveying under arch eyebrows that we should have one. But no such snooty treatment at the down to earth, local gem Pine club.) As it turned out, it's one of the top steak houses in the country! New York Times said so, not just me. Call me a rebel, I ordered the trout. It was delicious. Just be warned, they don't serve dessert only liqueurs after the meal and they only except cash. Both of these idiosyncrasies seemed minor compared to the unexpectedly delightful experience and Dayton.

Yelp
The Pine Club is definitely a portal to the past. Old-fashion, nostalgic. They don't take reservations and they're always busy. So anticipate going early and waiting! We waited over an hour before getting seated. The table is served a basket of bread (which was cold). Our server was very friendly tho. Our party ordered our food and service was relatively quick. I got a 8oz fillet mignon which comes with a salad and sides. The salad was iceberg lettuce and carrots drowned in dressing of your choice. My steak was partnered with hashbrown and fried onions. Decent sides, slightly toward the greasy end of the spectrum. The highlight of the meal was definitely the steak. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Unfortunate that overall the meal did not reflect the prices or meet my expectations. Everything else surrounding that piece of steak was kinda sad.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Put in our name for hour wait, checked in after 30 minutes and they gave table away. They require that you must wait in the bar area. We have six people and there was no room to stand inside.

Yelp
What a waste of time and money. This used to be one of the best establishments in the area, and for the past 30 years they have relied on that reputation to stay busy and make money. Nothing has any flavor. Not the incorrectly prepared steak, not the "homemade" green beans, not the salad dressing, and definitely not the staff. Plus you still have to pay with cash. What year is this? If you want overpriced steak with no flavor, a crowded environment for no reason, and a staff that doesn't care about you... go to Texas Roadhouse.

Yelp
I think everyone should go and experience it once. The wait was incredibly long. Some waiting said, "don't worry it's worth the wait!" But I am not sure I agree. The bread they give you to start is delicious! I had a salad with ranch. The dressing was more on the sweeter side, but it was still good. I got a surf and turf (filet mignon and lobster tail) with the stewed tomatoes and garlic mashed potatoes. I thought the stewed tomatoes were good, though I would've preferred the larger pieces be more small. The garlic mashed potatoes was nothing to write home about. The steak was a bit tougher than I would've liked, but it was cooked to my liking. The lobster was delicious, but can't go wrong with that. I would go here again if needed, but wouldn't go out of my way to wait 2 hours for this meal!

Yelp
Absolutely exquisite. We visit multiple times each year but bring all 6 of our children and those that have spouses once a year at Christmas. It was dreadful weather and while the restaurant planned to close early, the staff were well prepared to provide an amazing experience. The typical crowd and long wait were not present due to the weather and we benefited from that by having our party of 9 seated immediately. We ordered several rounds of their well made cocktails to wash down 2 orders of incredibly fresh oysters on the half shell. I ordered my usual bone-in ribeye with lyonnaise potatoes, stewed tomatoes and the classic res and blue dressing in my salad. My oldest two boys ordered the same while my wife ordered twin lobster tails and my daughter in law ordered the filet mignon. My oldest daughter had an order of HUGE shrimp and my other three children ordered cheeseburgers as big as their heads. Everything was perfectly prepared and all the plates were cleaned aside from those of the wee ones. A true treasure to have in our city.

Yelp
It's worth the two hour wait. Old school steaks and service. Great steaks, sides, atmosphere, salads.

Yelp
Not sure about all these five star reviews. My wife and I went for our anniversary on a Saturday night. Arrived later around 8:30PM and were sat immediately. The dinner experience starts with cold, super-salty bread with ice-cold butter that's impossible to spread. The next flop after the bread is the side salad. Total salad-bag soggy iceberg complete with the little crappy carrot shavings. My house Italian dressing was a big disappointment. My wife's ranch dressing however was nice and fresh. To me, one yard stick of how good a non-chain steakhouse is its side dinner salad. Then we get to the steak and sides. Yes, the steak, the main event, was awesome. Not sure about the fried onions, but I can see why customers would return. My lobster tail was also great. The sides though. Literally corn straight from a can. Nothing memorable at all. On par with the bread and salad. I will say the service was good and attentive. But also a bit abrasive. They're definitely trying to turn tables over quickly. All cocktails I will say were fabulous. Nice job from the bar. When you exit the place you'll see about 3/4 of the staff all smoking out back in the parking lot. Wave and say hello. I do love the nostalgia and can't wait to go back to the bar just for a cocktail. It's definitely an OG steakhouse haunt. But at their prices, all this "best steakhouse in the city, region, country..." not even close. Seriously. The Oakwood Club just up the street is far, far superior in every way. So is any Ruth Chris. And the fact that it's cash only just seems pretentious and dumb once you actually have dinner there and see it's underwhelming.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for our Anniversary. We loved the dark ambience of the restaurant. Nice place for a intimate dinner. The food was amazing I ordered the 20oz ribeye with sautéed mushrooms. My husband got the surf & turf and the lobster was decent size. I asked for medium rare and it came out perfectly. Food was hot and tasty. And for the price of 2 steak dinners it was reasonably priced. Our waitress Holly was very sweet so was everyone else. This is going to be our new special stake restaurant. Side note they only take cash. Just a heads up but they are very accommodating if you only have card.

Yelp
Delightful experience if you like old school dining. Great food, reasonable pricing, and wonderful service. Highly recommend for a special occasion but be prepared to wait as they do not take reservations.
